The curry didn't come with white rice, had to order it extra which I hate when places do that with curry but it's whatever. Dining in was great. The second time I got it, I got it to go, and it was a let down. I didn't see the cook, but the noodles were slightly over cooked, and the SMALL to go container has a mound of white rice inside??? Since when did pad Thai come with white rice? I felt like it was a tactic to make you think you're getting a lot, when white rice costs basically nothing. The menu prices posted at the store differed from the higher prices charged. I was not given a receipt as I requested and when I went up to pay, the amount owed was much higher than I had calculated. I really like this truck because their sauces are DELICIOUS. Delivery is usually quick and they never forget any parts of my orders. My favorite dishes are their Pad See Iew and Pad Prik Khing (spicy green beans). I usually order tofu or beef as my protein, and they're always perfectly juicy and delicious. I've been to the Thai-U-Up food truck probably a few dozen times for lunch. I can't really speak to all of the menu, but I've ordered the Pad See Ew and Pad Thai. I'm a die hard Pad See Ew fan and love theirs. In fact, the only time I didn't order their Pad See Ew it was because they were out of the noodles, so I ordered Pad Thai. I'll admit, I wasn't a huge fan of the Pad Thai, and wouldn't order it again. But, their Pad See Ew has always been delicious and I haven't been able to find another food truck or restaurant by my work that makes it better (IMO). I will admit, the title of this place drew me in and I came with high expectations of some fabulous Thai food that would keep me tied to this place. Unfortunately though, this food truck fell flat on its execution of one of my most favorite dishes: pad kee mao. Situated literally next to the 76 gas station on 75th & Roosevelt, you really can't miss this bright blue food truck. There is no dining area around this truck, so it's strictly take out. Credit cards are accepted here and if you're super hungry, my tip is to park in the smallllllll parking lot of the gas station that's on the opposite side of the food truck. For food, I ordered the pad kee mao with tofu, with a level of 3 out of 5 for spice. When it comes to spicy food, I'm usually pretty sensitive and would end up with a runny nose when I hit my happy zone with the spiciness. However, 3 stars at Thai-U-Up = no spice at all........The dish itself was too sweet for me and it didn't taste much of a savory pad kee mao that I'm used to. Veggies were abundant but the tofu was dry and lacked no particular taste. As for the noodles itself, it seems like they weren't cut up or separated well since I was biting into chunks of noodles that were thick and had no flavor. Other than the poor quality kee mao dish, the wait time here was actually quite long. For my friend and I, we were literally the only two people in line for food. After 20min or so of waiting, we got our food that was warm but not pipin' fresh & hot. I got takeout from the truck years ago and it was just ok, so I had not been back. I saw that there is now a brick and mortar restaurant so I decided to give them a try again. So glad I did! The food was excellent, as was the service. It's the time of Covid so I got take out, but I saw they are preparing to open for dine in. There is hand sanitizer available and they have put up plastic partitions between the tables. I also really appreciate that everything on the menu that is gluten free is labeled as such - and many items that aren't gluten-free at other restaurants are made gluten-free here! I certainly wasn't going to rate them poorly for that. Their food is delicious. HOWEVER. I am beyond disappointed. It tasted like General Taos chicken you would get at a Chinese restaurant except super salty and soy saucy. If you ever had Kungthrep's chicken, you'll be super dissatisfied with the chicken here. The pad see ew here is exceptionally fragrant but a tad too sweet for my liking. *Pad Thai: I'm not a big fan of pad thai in general. Often times, people would make it either too sweet or too bland. The pad thai from this place was made to perfection. It has the balance of tanginess and sweetness. I've got to say this is the only pad thai that I truly enjoy! A must try! The portion is quite generous for the price that hovers around $9-$11. I couldn't finish a whole dish in one sitting! During my Spring Break trip in Seattle, I heard about this joint as a popular food truck; however, the Seattle rain mixed with a bit of malaise made ya boy order delivery via Uber Eats. My Seattle friend and host for my trip ordered a lot of food to feed three people. We had the Cashew Delight with Beef, the Pad See Ew with Tofu, the Pad Thai with Shrimp, and the Panang Curry with Chicken. My favorites were the Panang Curry and the Pad Thai, all for $55. All of our dishes were mild in terms of spice level. No disrespect, but I was not feeling the Tofu in the Pad See Ew. Tofu is not my jam. Sadly and oddly, I just think of SpongeBob when I see Tofu. I love this place and it's probably my family's #1 takeout choice for the last seven years including the truck. But tonight my son's Phad Thai contained a protein that was supposed to be beef. The flavor, cut, texture and chewiness was completely foreign to both of us. I'm over 50 and have lived on three different continents. Came here randomly cus I was craving some pad thai. I'm hard of hearing so going in to restaurants is challenging for me and a lot of the time servers will become short with me because I ask them to repeat themselves so many times. The person up front talked really quietly so I did have to ask him to repeat himself but he was patient with me which was really validating! Kudos to the customer service. As for the food, it was pretty good. The pad thai had the right amount of tofu in it and it was decent, but the spice was very, very mild (almost sweet) despite the fact that I ordered four stars. I've never had raw cabbage in my pad thai before and it was kind off odd but surprisingly decent. Got some golden tofu as well which was good but the sauce was really, really terrible. It tasted like a mouthful of salt and sugar and lemon juice. Not great. Also the lime on the side of the pad thai was brown so that was a little strange. I probably won't come back just cus I've had a lot better but for a quick craving it was satisfying. Just do not try the sauce that comes with the golden tofu.
