    R1. House Special Fried Rice
    Franklin C.

First time back to this location since Covid. Tried takeout back then but wasn't impressed. I had seen driving Ambaum that they were open for dining. I had read some recent reviews and it seemed things had improved. My wife and I were looking for American Chinese food that wasn't too hot pot oriented. I'm not putting down other varieties but when I want good American Chinese I know what I like. We started with the Hot and Sour Soup which was nicely balanced with lots of tofu, bamboo shoots egg. Didn't have any mushrooms which I like but it wasn't bad and had a little bit of heat. We ordered the bbq pork which was very flavorful, the Chinese mustard had sufficient zing for my liking (got my eyes watering). My wife had Mongolian Beef with white rice. Rice was included and maybe entrees were in the upper teens to lower $20 so I don't mind paying more if rice is included. Wife had just a little spice and hers came out perfect. I ordered the House Egg Foo Young. Definitely a meal for two and I upgraded to bbq pork fried rice. I really liked the rice. Lots of soy and maybe a little oily but that's my wife's opinion. I liked it. Egg Foo Young was enormous. Gray with peas and bamboo sprouts on top. Overall with appetizer soup and entrees with tip less than $70. We could have gone with meal for two $44. Maybe next time or for lunch. We will be back.

Yummy! After a long day of traveling, we were looking for a quicker more casual dinner. And this place was just that! There weren't many people inside the restaurant but man the take-out business must be where it's at. Our waiter handled the tables inside, the phone orders, and the pick-up counter all with ease. The food was delicious too.

Egg flower soup - great start for lunch

I have been living in Burien for 6 years, and I know I've seen this restaurant on Ambaum BLVD for a long time. I decided to walk in because I was too hungry. The lunch menu is honestly okay with the order of an entree with a choice of soup, type of rice, and meat in your meal. The taste is okay. Nothing that would make me be wowed over. I would say this Chinese restaurant is good for quick lunch with your friend(s), family, or by yourself.

Egg flower soup and black tea

This place also delivers. I've eaten here three times and my grandparents swear by it, mother in law loves it and hubby always insists on it. I like their egg flower soup, it is creamy and thick and has corn in with the cooked egg. Everything is always served hot which I love too - their black tea is awesome and they keep your water glass full. Friendly and fast and attentive service. I like the crispy beef but it isn't spicy like it says on the menu. My husband got what was supposed to be a spicy chicken special and it wasn't spicy either; both entrees were sweet. So if it says spicy... Don't be afraid. It's really not. I felt the lunch portions were way too much food for me but I tend to eat smaller meals more frequently throughout the day rather than eat huge portions once or twice. $13 for lunch for two is pretty great though and you get the tea, an egg roll and your entree with soup!

I ordered the the egg drop soup for my appetizer and the chef's special egg fu yong for my entree with a to-go order for beef n broccoli. I'm pleased with the egg drop soup because it came hot and fairly bland so I could add salt to my satisfaction. The egg foo yong...next time I'll pick a protein instead of all three (beef, chicken, pork.) The texture was great, it was hot and definitely presentable. I just couldn't nail down a specific palette that it hit...even with salt it wasn't enough to capture an exact flavor, it was ok, like I said, next time I'll pick a protein, lol! Beef n broccoli was, hands down the best dish!! No disappointment, no off taste, no need for salt at all!! I'll must definitely be back!!

I ordered 2, the bbq pork fried rice and sweet and sour chicken, since I couldn't decide and with tax both were under $25. The portions are large and come with a soup or soda to go. My food was hot and fresh and was ready immediately once I arrived. Lunch special pricing is M-F until 3 pm I believe. I will definitely be back! I appreciate this small business and the friendliness of the man working. I will be recommending to my friends who live closer to Burien too!

The broth had a rich, deep flavor slightly on the salty side, but I love it. The wontons were definitely the highlight for me, packed with a savory, umami-filled meat filling. The egg noodles had that perfect bouncy texture and weren't overcooked at all. Service was fast and the staff were genuinely friendly, which made the experience even better. The shop itself is older but bright, colorful. Plus, super convenient with easy and free parking. Definitely a spot I come back every now and then when i'm craving a good bowl of wonton soup.

I was in the area, and a Seattle media outlet raved about them. They have their own parking lot and parking in the neighborhood is plentiful. They are on transit. They do takeaway. Almost all of the seating is long, about 16 persons. I have had fine roasted duck soup at a very reasonable price in other reviews. Ducks are small, so a lot of bones. Duck is not cheap. This spot duck was mostly bone and gristle. There is Chinese cultural value in eating meat with bones, but I don't like bones. The skin is an essential in roast duck, but it had been soaked in broth and lost its flavor. I have had noodles at many places. This was wafer wheat noodles. You can look up their menu, it is not expensive, but it is not notably cheap. The Yelp menu photos were nothing like the current, a vinyl shield over paper book of several pages, so are outdated. Inside it was clean, dark, and the staff were fine. But it is a decaying chaos of piles and abandoned decoration inside and tagged outside. I strongly refrain from negative reviews of small businesses. When a major media outlet hypes a dive business, and when their readers are anti-customer reviews, I need to review when I visit. I have sympathy for the family, but I fear the business is not sustainable. Go there and support them! Tung Kee Mì Gia is a dive Vietnamese restaurant with Chinese influence, ample parking, and take out - in person, or order ahead, in White Center. I visited Thai Tom, another Stranger dive endorsement. Tung Kee Mì Gia should get a liquor license and become a hipster hangout to save their business. Maybe The Stranger can help them.

Service is chaotic -- you literally have to flag servers down for anything and just hope they remember. The bathroom situation was also disappointing. Only 1 out of the 3 stalls was available, the lock didn't work properly, and the "hand soap" turned out to be shower gel. Definitely not the experience we were hoping for. I'm starting to realize maybe the old school Dim sum cart isn't the way for us anymore.

Middle layer (the savory core): Braised, well-seasoned items like marinated pork belly, fish balls, mushrooms, and dried squid. Top layer (the "crown"): Higher-end ingredients placed on top to prevent overcooking, such as abalone, sea cucumber, prawns, roasted duck, and scallops. Unfortunately, the Poon Choi I received was disappointing. The shrimp on the top layer were undercooked and not properly cleaned. The middle layer consisted mainly of fried tofu, fish balls, roasted pork, and steamed chicken, but there was little to no sauce, so the overall flavor was lacking. The vegetables at the bottom were very bland and did not absorb any seasoning as expected.
