Very underwhelming. I tried the "Cashew Delight" and it did not delight me at all. The sauce was watery and flavorless (except for the extreme heat). The veg was partially underdone and partially overdone and it was all served up in a plastic container that was too hot to touch. Hot food is a good thing but if you're going to hand it to your customer to carry away you need to give them some way to carry it without burning themselves. This has been our go to during Covid. Wish the white center location was open, closer to west Seattle, (we usually go takeout). BUT its Super good so we make the drive. Grabbed dinner here last week. My husband goes to the food truck a lot during the week down town and is always raving about how good it is. So we checked out their restaurant so I could try it. We got the wontons, crispy garlic chicken, pad Thai and Thai iced tea to go. It didn't take too long to wait for the food and they had a pretty good stream of people coming in for take out. Here is my first impression of Thai-U-Up food truck with MEALPAL - I came by to pick up my reserved lunch on a Wednesday, 12 noon at 9th and Stewart. When I got there, I was completely surprised by the long line of "Mealpal people" doing the exact same thing. I ended up waiting in that line for over 30 minutes just to pick up this food. I don't know what happened, but the guy taking the orders kept apologizing and advising everyone to change their orders since the crispy chicken took long to make. Besides everyone's disgruntled looks and snippy attitudes, this poor guy was a champ at remaining cool while trying to keep control of the situation. I've settled for 3 stars just because it's between a "5" and a "1". Let me explain: The 5 stars goes for the food - The food was delicious! I can't complain there. My crispy garlic chicken came out piping hot. Portion size was large. Very flavorful, nice crunchy texture but not dry, served with steamed rice, and my Thai iced tea was just right. I don't like my tea to be very sweet and sugary but they seem to have gotten that part down nicely. I'm giving 1 star for messing up the Mealpal pick-up time/schedule. I'm sure this review speaks for the many "pissed" off people and working professionals who were waiting in line with me and needed to get back to their office. As I said earlier, I don't know what happened as to why there was such a long wait but I really hope this doesn't happen again. Tom yum: I can't quite place my finger on what it is that I don't like, but it's not anything like any other I've had in the past. It just doesn't taste right. Panang curry: This was COLD! I'm not talking lukewarm either. They were closing in 50 minutes when I ordered, but that's not an excuse to serve cold food. I ordered mine with tofu and its was all tofu, and maybe Thai basil leaf or two. I was hoping for some peppers. I stumbled upon this gem by accident and it has become my favorite Thai truck! The first time I went here, I got chicken Phad Thai and a small order of potstickers, thinking I would save half for lunch the next day. I ended up scarfing down everything! So good! The menu has a good variety with good quality ingredients. I think it's always the attention to detail that truly reveals the amount of love and pride that's put into the food. One of the little touches that I appreciate are the dipping sauces for the pot stickers and egg rolls. You won't find any mass-produced and bottled sweet chili sauce here. Thai-U-Up has the tastiest food I have had since I've been here (over 8 months in)! Finally some flavor!!! The delivery option on the surface looks like a great idea, but delivery can take up to 90 minutes to arrive, and when it finally arrives it's cold - as if it's either been sitting out for a long time, or in a cold car before delivery, and arrives incomplete. I was hopeful after having a great first experience with them, but each subsequent order has been markedly worse. I work so much that sometimes it's hard to get out, so I order from DoorDash or Uber Eats, etc. Since I never ate here before, I decided to go the "safe route" and ordered Pad Thai. It's not bad. It even came with white rice (which, I probably won't eat but I'm glad they sent it), and also a slice of lime. I usually go with Thaitan but they weren't delivering. This is a bit more spicy than I ordered and definitely has more of a fishy taste than most Pad Thai. Pretty fishy, actually. Friendly, great price, and great food, how can you go wrong? My girlfriend and I picked up an order of crispy garlic chicken and pad thai. The portions were just right to feed two hungry seattlites. The crispy garlic chicken had its own unique taste due to the shrimp paste. If you have ever had shrimp paste on its own, don't be scared! They made a great tasting sauce for their chicken. Had seen this eye catching truck in the neighborhood the past week and knew I had to check it out. Conveniently, I had been craving Thai all day. So, after seeing the truck was once again in the neighborhood, I knew today was the day... I was going to be "Thai-ed up". Whenever I try a new Thai restaurant, I always try the chicken pad Thai. It's a great reference point for the rest of their food. When I was first handed my food I was initially concerned with the portion size. I soon realized upon opening that I was wrong - It was the perfect amount. The noodles were cooked just right and chicken was deceptively plentiful. The sauce was slightly sweet with very little tang, which was different. It came with a side of rice as well as veggies and peanuts to mix it. Overall, it was delicious and well worth it for the reasonable price of $9.50 with tax. My only drawback was my 2* tasted more like a 1*. So I will keep that in mind for next time.
