Just like a lot of the reviewers here, this used to be our favorite Thai restaurant, and we were so disappointed when it closed. As soon as we found out it had reopened, my wife said "we have to go". We planned a day-after Valentines Day dinner there. My wife thought she made reservations with someone there, but when we got there, they said "we don't take reservations". Alright, no big deal, they had plenty of tables. So first off we got our traditional apps; curry puff and spring rolls. They came out piping hot and were delicious! Usually we also get the chicken satay, but skipped it this time. The entrees were more hit or miss. They no longer serve my wife's favorite, Pad MM. She got chicken pad Thai instead. She was very disappointed and said it was bland, bland, bland. Hardly ate any of it. I had Thai basil chicken with rice. I was very happy with it although I did want medium spice, and it came hardly spicy at all. I ate all mine. We got the fried banana spring rolls with ice cream and it was very good. I think the new owners need to find their footing. Work on the dining service, work on the seasoning and spice levels. We're going to give it a little time and try again. read more

I came here for dinner with my friends. I've heard good things about this place but I was a bit skeptical because they are not foodies (Plain American palates). We came on a Friday and came early enough to have a booth. Every other table brought a bottle or two of wine. We ordered the shrimp fried thing, veggie spring rolls and I ordered the warm ground chicken salad as our appetizers. I got the pork BBQ as my main. It was sliced seasoned grill pork tenderloin. The special sauce I think came from a bottle which was ok to me. My friend's pad see ewe was over sauced but he enjoyed it and my other friend had the veggie with green curry. The curry was too thin in my opinion but she really liked it. Service was alright. They came around plenty of times to refill our water. This place is just average to me I feel that this place tweaked the sauces to accommodate the non-adventurous palate. Pretty cool and lazy that 85% of the exterior and interior is a diner. Such a different setup for a Thai restaurant. The outside is a diner and the inside is still somewhat set up like a diner. We came here for lunch and there was no line! I remember coming here for dinner and the wait would be out the door! Our server was amazing and super friendly. He recommend stuff on the menu and they were all so good! I had the pad Thai (of course) I should've asked for a bit of spice. It was good but I think there was just too much sauce to it. We also had the duck curry and that was amazing! Some coconut soup on the side which was very flavorful! We also had their "empanada" I forget the name, but it was filled with chicken and curry. We have ordered from this place before and the food has always been decent. For some reason when I visited tonight with my family, not only did the food taste way saltier than it should, the level of service was also subpar (new management?). The lady who brought us the food did not say a word to us. Furthermore, we asked for 4 plates so we could all share the food we ordered, the plates we got were filthy and did not appear to have been washed. My son also found a strand of hair in his rice. The whole place was smelly, we didn't notice until we took off the mask. We did not get water once we sat down and the place was not that busy at the time (only 3 tables with people). The brown rice was spoiled, smelled like it has been left out at room temperature for 3 days in the summer. Luckily We checked it before giving it to my little boy or else I would be so furious. I know we're coming out of a pandemic, I know there are supply chain issues but I'm not sure what any of that has to do with knife cuts and seasoning. The restaurant is no-frills (it's in a converted diner, and the servers are kept too busy to engage in conversation) but they serve good Thai food. We had the Chicken Satay and the Pinky Shrimp to start, and Pad See Ew and Green Curry for entrees. I ordered the Pad See Ew mild and thought it still had a slight kick, so keep in mind that their food runs spicy! The fried banana dessert (comes with vanilla ice cream) was really good. Like several other customers we walked out after 95 minutes and still no entree had arrived. Tea ordered but they forgot. I haven't had Thai food in a while, and so decided to give this a try. I got the vegetable pad kee mao and vegetable spring rolls. This was an overall meh meal. The spring rolls were beautifully crispy without being oily or over done, but the insides were over cooked and textureless. The noodles just melted. For the pad kee mao, I specifically asked for tofu, and was assured the vegetable included tofu. I did not get tofu. It's also not spicy or flavorful at all. It's not bad, but just really over priced for what I got. I'd pay 12-14 for this meal and be happy, but for 20? Nah, the spring rolls aren't worth $8. The noodles for 11? OK, not great. read more

Since this place reopened, the people who work there have not been able to do anything right. Their food and spice levels are inconsistent and they are beyond unprofessional. There have been times I haven't been able to even get a hold of anyone on the phone to place an order. One time, when I was able to get them on the phone, the lady who was taking my order HUNG UP the phone before I was even finished ordering. I hadn't gotten a chance to tell her what spice levels I wanted or even tell her my name. When I called back she was rude and unapologetic and claimed that she thought I was finished. How can I be finished when I haven't even given you a name for my order? On another occasion, my dad went to pick up our food, and after paying, the lady walked away, and never came back to give him our food. There was a bag of food on the counter....he had to ask another lady if it was ours. And the most recent encounter, I called and was told to hold on. The lady on the phone put the phone down--I could hear the background noise, and NEVER came back to take my order. I was on hold for 20 minutes before I decided to hang up. Who knows how many people were trying to order aside from me during this time frame? For all I know the phone is probably still off the hook and other people aside from me are getting a busy signal. This place has GOT to get it together if they want to stay in business. The unprofessionalism is absurd. The food isn't horrible, but needs to be more consistent. Boyfriend and I ordered here for delivery. Our experience was great. The food was good, our delivery came pretty quickly and it was still warm. It really hit the spot. My boyfriend got the go-to curry and I got the pad see ew. We usually get the same thing at every Thai restaurant. We also got wings and eggrolls. The wings needed a bit more seasoning for me, but the sweet and tangy sauce it came with helped a lot. I'd order again if I'm craving Thai. read more

Any reviews you see on this site prior to 9/18/18 are for the old place which had really good food and a friendly environment. The food I tried at this new Thailand was disappointing. The Pad Thai was not spicy, had soggy peanuts and no crunch and was really sweet, too sweet to finish. Also the shrimp were not right. Maybe bad quality or cooked in a wok that wasn't hot enough? We also love that it is housed in an old diner, making our first meal there totally unexpected. We chanced upon it 2 months ago after one of our bi-weekly treks to Trader Joe's in Westfield. On our way home (en route to the GSP), I somehow convinced the hubby that this nondescript restaurant would either be a huge letdown or a very pleasant surprise. We went in, and were greeted by our now favorite waitress. We responded, "sawasdee ka" and "sawasdee krup" and received the biggest smiles. When asked for her recommendation, our server replied by asking us 3 or 4 questions. What emerged from the kitchen were 3 of the best Thai food we've had since our return from Thailand. That meal brought us back to the gritty streets of Bangkok and the peaceful longboat ride on the Mekong river. I would give Thailand Restaurant 10 stars, but yelp only allows me to give a max of 5. I have recommended this place to all my friends and relatives, but I'm a bit conflicted about giving it rave reviews on the web, for fear of giving away what feels like a 'secret.' Unlike my other reviews that I write for the paper, I'll keep it short and sweet. While it may not look like much, Thailand Restaurant is hands down the best Thai food in the immediate area. The seating area may be small, and the dishes and place settings look unexceptional; however, the food that they serve is first rate. What sets it apart is just the sheer flavor that is packed in every dish. Thai food can be known to be spicy, but I usually just scoff at a typical restaurant's offering. Thankfully, that is not the case here because their spice really knocked my tastebuds off their rocker. When other restaurants might pull their punches when classifying something as spicy, Thailand Restaurant really gives you your money's worth. When I asked for my dish to be at their spiciest level, they asked whether I had tried it before, and once I tried it, I immediately knew why. Now that I've experienced it once, I know what to expect when I head into battle, and will be getting it the same way every time. We got some spring rolls as an appetizer and I was not disappointed. For my meal I got the pad see ew with chicken (apparently one of their most famous dishes). I asked for a little spice to it and loved it. They give you a good amount so I have plenty of left overs. It hasn't been renovated on the inside either, but if you can get over the odd-ball ambience, (I rather like it) you will realize that the real show stoper at Thailand Resturant is their food. The crowds agree! This place can get CRAZY busy on the weekends, but rightfully so - seeing as the food is amazing. Everything is priced reasonably, and the portions are generous. We were headed on a road trip to the Woodbury Outlets. We were looking for Starbucks and found this little Thai place. The reviews were good so we went in for a late lunch. Started with Thai Tea & Tom Kha Gai soup. The soup was delicious, creamy and just the right amount of lemongrass. We also shared Thai Basil and the Family Fried Rice. Both were good. We should have ordered medium spice. It was mild enough for little children. Our waitress was quick to serve and gave us some traveling tips. Downside was the wall by our booth was not clean and the whole floor vibrated whenever someone walked by. A good choice especially for a Sunday night when your favorite Thai restaurant in Woodbridge is now inexplicably closed on Sundays. The prices here are about 20% less than the other Thai restaurants that I've been to so if you are on a budget, this could be the place. Strange look to the place; from the outside it looks like a diner. And from the inside.....it looks like a diner too. We had 2 appetizers and both were very good. One was a fried tofu with a tasty dipping sauce and the other was even better. It was shrimp in a spring roll wrapper, also with a dipping sauce. We both had Pad Thai and it was OK. What disappointed me was that my wife had the regular Pad Thai which includes meat and shrimp and I asked for my Pad Thai with shrimp only. We both wound up with the same # of shrimp in our dishes. My family and I used to go here pretty often (when it was under old management) and I went back today for the first time since remodeling/reopening and it was just ok. I think the restaurant has lost a bit of its charm now that all the booths are gone :~( The napkin at my seat had a noodle stuck to it, and the table overall felt dirty? We were seated and given menus, and immediately given the starter salad. Nothing awful, but definitely a strange order of service. The food was ok - we had spring rolls, pad kee mao, and rad na. The spring rolls felt kind of greasy (I don't recall them being like that in the past). The pad kee mao had huge shrimp which was nice, and the dish overall was good. The rad na definitely leaned a bit too salty, and it overall felt like a bit of a disappointment of a dish. I'll probably still be back because it's the closest place for me to get Thai food, but I might just stick to the pad kee mao. read more
