I'm kinda shocked about the good reviews based on the two dinners my husband and I ordered. We had the chicken rama otherwise known as Pra Ram and pad woon sen. The chicken in the chicken Rama dish was very dry and the sauce was no where near as good as it's supposed to be. Pra Ram is supposed to taste like peanut butter and be creamy in texture. The sauce in my dish was watery, and it didn't taste anything like peanut butter. I suggest the chef go to Thai Diner in Clark and see how that dish is actually supposed to be made. The pad woon sen was just ok , but not nearly as good as it's supposed to be. The sauce to that dish had no flavor and not nearly as good as it's supposed to be. There are far better Thai restaurants out there so I don't recommend this one. read more

Ordered to go, but inside was well decorated and has a nice ambiance. Looked like a great spot for a date night so I would recommend dining in if you can. The food was good, overall tasty. I liked the curry more than the noodles actually, in which we tried pad Thai and pad see ew. Their Thai iced tea is very good too as I got to try that. Parking is available with a small lot on the side but the main street can get busy. read more

We are here on a Tuesday night as part of Restaurant Week. We both ordered off the prix fixe menu. The restaurant has a minimalist feel and quite spacious. There's a backroom that could be used for parties or overflow. Ample parking nearby. The food was just not up to par. Nearly any other Thai restaurant has better food and I'm not judging it against the best ones. While both appetizers were good- Crab Ragoon and Thai Shumai - we both ordered the Pad Thai, my friend with shrimp and I ordered chicken. The main taste was of ketchup and the teh dish had a sort of dark and musky flavor. Now ketchup is used in Asian cooking, but not as the dominant flavor in Pad Thai. And it didn't have that bright flavor you associate with Thai food. In a effort to get a more balanced and less dark flavor, I asked for more limes and peanuts. Nope, didn't really help. While my chicken was appropriately cooked, the shrimp was overcooked and rubbery. We both had the Sticky Mango Rice which had little sauce to marry the rice and the mango. If the food was the only issue, it would have been 3 stars. But the service was simply unprofessional. So let me start out with I understand there were only one other couple eating dinner, insofar as we could see. And we arrived at 7:00. The restaurant closes at 9. It was a Tuesday night. As we ate our main course, the waiter repeatedly tried to clear our entree plates. We were still eating. Rather annoying but they continued to try and take our plates though, again, we were still eating. Then they brought desserts and tried to shove them on the table for two when there was no room since our entree were still there! Assuming we'd never see them again, I suggested we put them on the adjacent table. We left a 8.30, while they were closing up. So heres the deal. You want to close up while we're there and still eating, fine. I really don't have an issue. But trying to grab plates while we're eating and doing it repeatedly and insisting on serving dessert when we are still eating our entrees is simply not professional and appropriate. I may be a sucker for Thai food but this is up there with some of the best Thai food I have ever had. The inside was super clean and modern with plenty of seating. The service was prompt and all food came out piping hot. The mummy shrimp was out of this world. The outer layer almost tasted like a frosted mini wheat deep fried around a shrimp, insanely good! The shrimp pad Thai had a classic taste and was nothing too special but great nonetheless. The pineapple fried rice with chicken was so fresh and had cashew nuts that added that extra crunch and dimension to a super flavorful dish. I had lychee lemonade for the first time ever and it was amazing! It almost has a white peach type of flavor but it's not too sweet and super refreshing. Definitely recommend stopping by 8 Thai for a date night or even a work party! read more

Lovely restuarant with a very cute interior. I ordered food for pickup and the person who took my order was very helpful. The dishes I ordered were a solid 3. The shrimp mummy were a good size but I can tell they fry everything in the same pot and they don't swap the oil out often. All in all, I wouldn't order again. Here's the problem--HOW DO YOU NOT PUT PEANUTS IN A PAD THAI?!?!? That's BASIC. But yup, I have a pad thai with NO SPICE and NO PEANUTS. If it had those TWO basic and necessary ingredients, they may have had a new regular but this is just meh. And no bean sprouts either. Disappointing to say the least. When Mama's is open, go there. For the price, y'all could have given me peanuts and bean sprouts. read more

Place has potential but it's not there yet. Pad Thai had too much tomato paste or something similar. Massaman Curry was a soup consistancy. Nice list of fancy desserts but they get served in a small paper food boats; (a little stingy with fresh plates). There's lots of sweet and sticky sauces to go with some of the items. Unfortuantely they did not have any wet naps and paper napkins were kept at a minimum while we kept asking for more. However, after leaving we went for a walk and saw a dog that immediately went over to my wife's fingers and licked them clean. Like the price. read more

My usual Thai place had been lacking so I decide to try this one. Ordered a chicken pad see ew, a chicken pad Thai and sticky rice with mango. The entrees were tasty and portions were a good size. I was left disappointed in the dessert. For the cost It was tiny and did not look appetizing. The taste left a lot to be desired. The rice was a purple rice which was fine but the grains were hard, sticky rice should be chewy. I would come here again just skip the dessert. read more

With their extensive menu, there's something for everyone. BYOB helps keep the cost down, which is a plus these days! The noise level can be a make or break for me, and here it was just right! Always on the hunt for a great Thai spot - I came in here for a date night after seeing it had recently opened. The restaurant itself is quite large and beautiful designed. They have plant murals on the wall and a fun neon sign. Booth seating, stand alone tables and counter-style seating with green velvet chairs. Reservations were pretty easy to make. Street parking is available nearby. The food itself was pretty average. Ordered -Roti Massaman: probably the most flavorful of all the items ordered, no fried onion topping as listed -Pad Thai: good portion size, a bit too dry -Spicy Basil: good portion size, could've used more flavor Dessert- Thai tea crème brûlée: the fruit on top complimented the Thai tea flavor very well The restaurant is a BYOB, which I noticed several customers took advantage of - wine bottles, steel bottles, etc. They didn't charge a cork fee which was nice. Ordered 8Thai for pickup on a Friday. Took about 45 minutes. The food was spectacular!! The appetizers stayed crispy even though we did takeout. The spring rolls were incredible. We wanted to try someplace new and stumbled upon 8Thai as a recently opened spot. We found easy street parking right across and the interior was warm and welcoming. No reservation but we were quickly seated within 5 minutes. For appetizers, we ordered the roti massaman and crispy calamari which was piping hot! Curry tasted great with the rotis and the calamari was super fresh and crispy. I ordered a Thai tea as well (pro tip: it's BYOB- can this place get any better?!) For the entrees, we ordered the pad thai, pad see ew, Tom Kha soup (unpictured but delicious as well!), and pineapple fried rice. Everything was a hit with the table and it was more than enough for our party of four. The staff was very attentive and the owner came to check on our table multiple times. A mid to strong 3. The chive dumplings were nice and crispy. Flavor on point. But they use too much corn starch in the filling, giving it a gelatinous internal consistency. Really unpleasant. 3/5 The Crab Rangoon. I've had better. 3/5 The chicken satay was moist. The peanut sauce wasn't creamy enough. The sugar vinegar sauce was too sweet with too little acid. 4/5 The fried beef balls did not hit. Super strange, like fried beef hot dog bites. 1/5 Shrimp Shumai. Quite good, fried well. Staff is very friendly, informative, and accomodating. The decore and atmosphere are minimalist, modern, and clean. The food though it was descent was not the best Thai food we have had, but that assessment is mostly due to the fact we have been spoiled by some really outstanding Thai joints. The summer rolls were awsome thought. I suspect if I had the latb or papaya salad, I would have enjoyed them better. If you are vegan or vegetarian, be aware it isn't one of the vegetarian friendly restaurants. Most of the dishes have either fish sauce, shrimp, or chicken stock in them, leving a very minimal options for vegans/vegetarians. I hope this changes in the future. read more

Such a good addition to Cranford's downtown restaurant scene! 8Thai has a newly refurbished adorable interior, with the high-quality cuisine to match. You can tell the new owners really care about customer experience -- the manager/owner came up to our table three times throughout our dining experience to see about how we were finding the place. Safe to say it was all smiles for us! Added bonus -- she's a BYOB, boys! The only places left for improvement I'd say is that the dining area did fill partially with smoke from the kitchen, and our food came out at different times. We had an early dinner on a Sunday evening. The place was nicely decorated and clean. This was our first visit. The restaurant was empty when we arrived, but it quickly picked up within 30 minutes. We brought a bottle of wine along for the meal. We ordered the crab Rangoon, Pad Thai w/chicken, and the Red Curry w/chicken. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, and the service was quick and attentive. We will return for that curry dish as it was full of flavor! read more

My wife and I joined another couple for dinner on a very busy Saturday night. We made reservations for 7:00 p.m. and the place was literally empty when we walked in. Within a half hour, all the tables were taken. Make a reservation! We previously had take out from here on a couple of occasions and really enjoyed it. We began our meal with the Summer spring rolls and the Homemade Thai Shumai. Each appetizer was cooked fresh and tasty. The dipping sauce was excellent as well. Our table had 2 orders of the chicken pad thai, one order each of the shrimp pad thai, and the vegetable pad thai. The portions were generous and the only person to finish their meal was me. Your welcome. Everything came out hot and fresh. The prices were very reasonable and the service was very good. There was a public parking lot close by and ample street parking. Tried take out from here on Friday night pick up time 45 minutes. On arrival only a couple tables were occupied but they appeared busy with take out orders. Food was delicious and fresh. Crab rangoons were nice and crispy as well as the spring rolls. I got garlic beef pepper with extra beef (2 extra dollars) the sauce was tasty and didn't skimp on the garlic. Fresh crispy vegetables. This place just opened in the last month so we thought we would try it out for lunch. Food was so tasty and delicious. My husband ordered the sweet and sour chicken lunch special and said that the dish was one of the best sweet and sour he had ever eaten. I ordered pad thai with shrimp and it was a good portion (4 large shrimp) that I could not finish the noodles in the dish. The small salad that came with the lunch special was also good; the dressing was simple and delicious. We definitely will come back for dinner and try their duck dishes. Real cool place. First time here. Contemporary surroundings. Modern relaxing jazz in the background. For appetizer, we split the fried calamari. Nice and crisp, but I wish there was more of it. There was a lot less than the pictures I saw. My friend had a chicken dish stir fry, forgot what, but she enjoyed it. I had the ginger duck. It was very good, with mixed vegetables. Portions were good. Service was OK. It would have been better, but our server, the young girl with black hair in a pony tail, was a bit of a dizball.
