Absolutely delicious meal. Appreciated the fact that I was accommodated for not wanting anything spicy. Will definitely return soon!

Balti Palak, onion kulcha, lamb biryani

Ordered for late lunch today. The garlic naan was old, dry and stale. The veggie Biryani was without much flavor at all. Real shame, since we always wanted to like this place but it's really gone down the drain.

I was craving Garlic Naan and this place was recommended so I had to check it out. It definitely did not disappoint. It's located in the downtown area of Corning and we were able to park on the street near the restaurant. We were welcomed and everyone was so nice. The service was great! I'm always a little indecisive and can't just pick one dish so my boyfriend and I shared an appetizer and specialty plate. The portions are a little small but was more than enough food for the 2 of us to share. I'll have to try their Chicken Tikka Masala next time because I've heard great things about it. The food came out hot and fresh, well worth the wait (Which wasn't very long even though they were pretty busy).

Almost every time I went to Corning Museum of Glass I will ended up eating here. One of my favorite Indian restaurants. I only been here on weekends for lunch. Apparently they have lunch buffet Monday-Friday. Interestingly there was also barely people there when I came in. Maybe they do more take out or they come for dinner. Today is no exception. Quiet ambiance only us and 2 other patrons. Today we ordered Crab Mumbai, garlic naan, black peppercorn meat (lamb) and mango lassi. Crab Mumbai and lamb dish awesome. The right spices. The only thing the crab Mumbai appears to contain other than crab. I was suspicious that it was looks like shrimp bit and taste is very similar however i didn't get the reaction (sadly i developed shrimp allergy), so maybe it was crawfish. In the menu though didn't indicate to have either. So whatever if it was shrimp and I'm having reaction I'd be very angry. I got this crab Mumbai few times before and I didn't remember it like this so... The lamb dish is very tasty and very flavorful with some spiciness. We did asked for spicy. Garlic naan sadly a disappointment. It was kind of tasteless. Which is surprising. Mango lassi decent but I had better. Overall, I still recommend this place and would come back again.

Forgot to take photos of all our food because we were eager to dig in! Their portions were perfect to share with others at the table but for their prices we definitely wished for larger portions to have leftovers. The restaurant was quiet during lunchtime and we received great service being the only table at the time. Even when things got busier, they would check in to make sure we had everything we needed. Recommend the fish curry and pakora w chutney. And of course chai to finish :)

Chicken Korma, Saag, Chicken Tika Masala and their veggie samosa were all excellent! Let's go!

Food was exceptionally good. Everything we ordered was made to perfection. I don't understand the other reviews but we definitely enjoyed added to our goto list!

Actual Menu Price vs what I was charged.

Dishonest business. I will not be returning. As a flight crew member, I stay in Corning for work from time to time. I try to find go to places for return visits on all my layovers. I thought this was one of those places. Sadly, I was wrong. My first time ordering from Thali of India, I ordered Chana Palak with roti. It was bright green, well seasoned and delicious. I was looking forward to getting it again on my next layover. A month or so later, when I returned to Corning, I ordered the same thing. It was brown, bland and just sad. I thought maybe they had run out of their normal spinach and didn't season it well. Was willing to give the dish another try. My third time coming to Corning, just today, I ordered my usual takeout. The price seemed a bit high, so I asked the girl for an itemized receipt. She didn't give it to me right away, so I asked again. She handed me the "itemized" receipt, hand scribbled on a piece of paper. I looked at her skeptically. She explained that tax was added. As I left the building, I took a photo of the menu currently on display in the front window for all to see. She had charged me an extra dollar for the roti, and an extra dollar for the chana palak. I really try my best to support small family businesses, and would have gladly paid the extra money if the prices had simply gone up and that was reflected on the menu, but that's not the case. She charged me extra in a dishonest fashion, and dishonesty is something I abhor and will not tolerate a second time from a place I'm handing my hard earned money to. Also, just as a FYI. The Chana Palak on this third visit was once again brown, bland and sad. Highly disappointing. Thali of India may have gotten an extra $2 out of me on this visit, however, they have lost all future business from me. Dishonest business practices pay off in the short term, not the long term. Namaste.

Garlic Naan

Uh, the food was so good the only pic of the leftovers I have is of the garlic naan LOL Simply put the food here is SOLID and the service is quick. They'll also adjust spice levels (I wanted spiciest) to your preference. I would come here again for the chai alone.

Garlic naan, samosa chat in the middle (which is awesome)

I have no idea why this place has three stars, there aren't a whole bunch of other Indian places around and their food blows away Indian restaurants in Miami. The ambiance is a bit dim and the service is at a relaxed pace but the food is always fantastic. I love the samosa chat from here plus lots of other dishes. Their vegetarian dishes don't have anything exotic since fresh vegetables seem a bit harder to come by up here but the prices are reasonable and everything is always hot/fresh. I'd trade a few places in my neighborhood to have Indian this good down in Miami.

Food was fine, but not very exciting. The staff dealt with our very large group of 12 well, getting us our food quickly. The restaurant has "interesting" decor -- don't expect too much. I probably wouldn't go back, but good for a large group!

Thali of India on Market Street in Corning, NY, is cute and quaint with a friendly staff.
Christine A.

Thali of India is one the area's BEST restaurants when it comes to authentic, tasty and fresh cooked food in a casual atmosphere. And it's the only one of its kind I can think of locally. Plus? It's located on Market Street! I ate lunch there on my 1st visit to Corning years ago and return frequently now that I live 2 miles away. I tried a sampler platter recently: It was perfectly portioned for one and superbly cooked. Note: I don't think they offer a Lunch or Dinner Buffet anymore. Last time I asked, the answer was "no." (Call ahead and ask?) I wish the website was updated to reflected that. Still, it's adorably quaint and cozy -- with excellent food and friendly service at a phenomenal price.

The food was brought out very timely and the servers were great at clearing all of the plates we were done with. The food was absolutely delicious and so were the drinks. The braised pork belly, paneer in Thai yellow curry, and Thai sun-dried beef with sticky rice were the favorites, but everything was so good. Definitely recommend coming here if you have time!

Ambiance is nice, service was just okay. Recs/what we tried: - sweet potato fries ($8): 4/5; pretty good, but tasted pretty standard - good for sharing, very filling. - braised pork belly ($13): 2/5; this dish was too oily for my liking, between the pork drenched in a sauce and the toasted bun - portion size was also way too small, and barely came with any meat. - panang curry ($20): 5/5. my friend's favorite that he orders every time; great option for vegetarians. - most of the desserts we've tried here weren't impressive; would skip them. Overall, I'm not sure I'd recommend - I personally didn't find too many things I liked the menu.

After taking some neighborhood streets, we arrived at the location and parked in their small lot. There was room for perhaps for 6-7 cars. Each space was labeled for whether it was for the restaurant or not. Entering, we were greeted and seated. We had about 1 hour and 14 minutes before boarding, so the staff were very accommodating and pointed out what could be made quickly (basically everything except their tandoori). They also answered questions about gluten. We ended up getting aloo tikki chaat and a lamb shank masala. They provided chickpea flour crisps with mint-cilantro and tamarind chutney. They also brought us their complimentary chai tea, which was very nice and satisfying. Their chaat was well-balanced, gluten-free (the crispies are made with chickpea flour), and it had pomengranate, chickpeas, and potatoes. The pile was dressed with yogurt, tamarind chutney, and mint chutney. Their lamb shank masala came bone-in with the curry sauce surrounding it. The lamb was well cooked, and mostly moist and tender, though there were parts that were dry. Both dishes were well-adorned, which was a nice touch. Best of all, however, was how exemplary all the staff were at the restaurant. They exuded a wonderful calmness and hospitality. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Syracuse.

I've never eaten here in person but have ordered delivery and take out multiple times and feel that the portion sizes are well worth the cost. My recommendations absolutely include the Saffron Special Biriyani which was incredibly flavorful and had SO MUCH different proteins in it and the Lamb Shank Masala. I'm used to many places only giving the lamp shank and nothing else but Raj Saffron House gives lamb shank with multiple pieces of lamb as well. It was incredibly delicious and tender. The chicken saag and the lamb karahi are also tasty! Best Indian food in cuse!

We ordered takeout from them a few years ago during COVID, but this was our first time dining in. The restaurant was tidy and I liked their music (I think mostly older Bollywood music), but there was an alarm in the kitchen that was beeping continuously the entire time we were there, and since we were sitting near the kitchen entrance it felt like it was right in my ear, which was a little irritating. The waiter was very polite though, which made it a pleasant experience being there. I ordered the soya vindaloo, had a bit of vegetable biryani, and we got a bread basket for the table which included plain and garlic naans, onion kulcha, and roti. The soya vindaloo was okay. I don't want to say it was bland, but it was less intense than I was expecting. I ordered it with medium spice and I wonder if it would've been better at "hot" or even "very hot". I would've described the spice level that I got as medium-mild. The veggie biryani was tasty, but oily for my taste. This dish was ordered mild, but there was enough depth and warmth in the other spices of the dish that I didn't miss the heat. There were lots of vegetables in the dish that were cooked perfectly to provide a little texture and enhance the flavour of the rice. The breads were great. They were all also a little more buttery than I usually prefer but were cooked so well, and the naans were just thick enough to be fluffy. The onion kulcha had a great flavour with lots of slightly caramelized onion. I got kheer from dessert which I loved. Lots of cardamom, but not overpowering, and perfect texture - not watery. I remember that when we got takeout here, I ordered curry kofta, peshawari naan, gajar ka halwa, and plain lassi. I don't remember the naan at all, but I remember I really enjoyed the kofta, lassi, and naan. I actually remember the gajar ka halva so well because it was so good that I was tempted to order it again when we visited this time even though I ultimately decided to try something different. When we picked up, they apparently never got our order because of some weirdness with the online platform (I assume this is now resolved because their current online ordering uses a different site) so they had to start it when we arrived, but they were very hospitable to us while we waited, letting us sit in a booth and bringing water. I wouldn't put it among the best Indian restaurants I've been to, and I even think there's better in the Binghamton area, but some things do stand out as particularly good, so I'd be happy to come here again, and would just order spicier next time.
