Only complaint was that the trays were too small for the sandwiches! The onion rings were sweet..a little greasy, but I'd order them again...great on the Little Butchie sandwich! Dylan served us so efficiently and with a positive attitude this afternoon. Our second trip here & well worth the trip. The bbq brisket was phenomenal- very moist& tender with a slight smoky flavor. There are several side selections and my favorite is their dill pickle potato salad. For both visits we had Paul as our server. He is friendly, welcoming and attentive. The restaurant is right on Market Street near a variety of interesting shops. While not a large space the tables are far enough apart so that you can have a conversation with your partner. They also offer a great selection of local beers and have a full bar as well. We will definitely visit again when we are in Corning the next time read more

We stopped at Nickel's Pit BBQ while visiting the area, and wow--this place totally hit the spot for our family of five. Our server was incredibly attentive and genuinely friendly. He recommended the family combo (A+ choice) and reminded us it was $3 taco Wednesday, so of course we added tacos. Zero regrets. We tried The Alabama Flex, Chicken Finger's Sub, and the Honey Shredder tacos. All were delicious, but hands-down family favorite was The Alabama Flex. The smoked meat was tender and flavorful, and their BBQ sauces took everything up a notch. My personal favorite was the House BBQ--slightly sweet with that molasses richness. The kids loved the Red Eye BBQ because it "wasn't too spicy and tasted fresh." High praise from little food critics. Now for the real winners of the night: The chicken wings. THE. WINGS. Went here for the Sunday brunch and it was great! Got the smoked wings. They were cooked really well. The sauces with good. I would hey them again. The tater tots were nice and crispy! The sour cream and ranch that they came with really did the trick to take them up a notch. My mom got the brisket sandwich and it was really really good. I love fattier brisket, so it definitely sufficed. The Mac salad was pretty good. It wasn't sweet like people usually make it which I did enjoy. I ended up getting a side to go. The barbecue was amazing and some of the best I've had in the United States. The chopped brisket sandwich along with the House sauce was delicious. The place is a bit small, but fortunately for us we arrived and they were only two other parties in the room. Wanted bbq and found this spot nearby the hotel we're staying at. Service was super friendly and attentive. Seated right away and when asked for recommendations was told the flying pigs and the brisket were most often ordered. So we decided to order those as well. Food did not disappoint. The flying pigs were amazing. Get the nickel dry rub and use any of the sauces on the table. For the brisket combo we got cornbread and tots as sides. Wifey loved the brisket and the cornbread. Not an easy accomplishment to get a nice crispy pickles when getting a good deep fry. The original brisket sandwich was spot on. I had it "wecked" like a traditional beef on Weck. Good combination and a different take than I have ever had before. Space is limited so large groups might be difficult to get seated. This was the better barbecue in Corning. All the meat was good and pretty, tasting pleasantly of smoke. Look at the nice red ring on that brisket! Nickels Pit provides three or four sauces you can put on. The tater tots were crisp and hot. The corn muffin was large and tasty, with a coarse crumb. The greens had some sort of cheese sprinkled on. I liked everything I ate. I ate as much as I could, and had the cold leftovers two days later for breakfast. It was still good. The service was great. I was the only person in the restaurant (Monday night in winter) and the server was very willing to help. In all fun place to go to, but the food is just decent. Wings- you have plenty of choices to choose from. I ordered the dry rub Bbq (10) and the chipotle honey mustard (10). Both choices were delicious, and I loved the fact they were crispy. Brisket- Nice thick sliced pieces of meat, that had the right amount of smoke flavor. I would say though, the brisket needed just a little more time smoked. That way they would've came out more tender. Ribs-(not shown) The ribs tasted like they were steamed or even boiled. Yes they fell off the bone, but I don't like my ribs prepared like that. I like seeing a smoke ring, and having a slight tug of resistance when I bite into a rib. Being from North Carolina makes me a little bias when it comes to bbq but this place really impressed me. The location is a cute spot in the downtown area. They do have parking available out front and across the straight all as parallel parking. There are other back parking lots close by. I was told it's a local brunch favorite and to get there early because it fills up quick. This was definitely true for my visit, the restaurant has limited seating but you can also sit at their bar if the tables are occupied. Our waiter Paul greeted, sat, and served us and he was great. I loved that they had their own sauces (the Carolina BBQ was my personal favorite) and you can also purchase them to take home. After spending a day at the local museums in Corning my family and I decided to dine at Nickel's. This was our first time visiting but definitely will not be the last. My husband and I opted for their platter that comes with a generous serving of all their meats and 2 sides. We couldn't decide on just one item so having this platter as a menu option was perfect. Our platter contained sliced brisket, chopped brisket (with sauce), smoked turkey, pulled pork, pig wings, chicken wings and 1/4 rack of ribs. Wow! Was all we could say when it was brought to our table. While everything was very tasty I can say my favorite item on the platter was their smoked turkey. I am a "white meat" type of girl and this was by far the best smoked turkey I've ever eaten. The food here far exceeded our expectations! Our waitress was friendly and handled the rush as best she could -- it really got busy after we sat down. The wings were honestly some of the best I've ever had, and the hot barbecue sauce took them to the next level. My pork taco was so loaded I had to deconstruct it, and every bite was phenomenal. I also snagged a few bites of the brisket sandwich -- rich and tender (my partner thought it was a touch fatty but still loved it). And those tater tots? Crispy, golden perfection. We appreciated their beers on draft, ordering an Ommegang Rare Vos and a Brewery Ardennes Belgian Blonde. The brisket was perfect cherry smoke fork tender and juicy plays well by itself but the homemade bbq sauces are amazing. The pulled pork was tender juicy and flavorful! I used the pickled onions and pickles for my Mac salad which had onion and a hint of sweet gave it more flavor and added a dab of red hot bbq sauce for some zing. Portions were good size. Place is small with a bar that seats about 6 warm and welcoming ambiance very clean place. Large windows let a lot of light in. We stopped in for dinner on a weeknight and it wasn't too crowded. The meat: I tried both the brisket and pork, both of which were incredible. Melt in your mouth level. I would stop back in and try one of their larger plates with different types of meats if I were in the area again. The sauces: The Carolina is sweeter and very mild without much depth. The house BBQ had the richest flavor, but I still felt like it was missing something. The other BBQ sauce (I am forgetting the name and can not find it online) had a vinegary-base and was quite pleasant. We ordered the onion rings and three tacos. The taco special is $3 per taco which winds up being quite a deal for dinner in comparison to their other menu items. The pickle barrel was my personal favorite. The onion rings were spectacular. I came upon this bbq restaurant after leaving another bbq joint in the area, that was not so good. This is a small restaurant so it gets crowded pretty quickly. I was greeted and seated immediately with a great attitude and smile from the hostess. The very hospitable waiter helped me to choose my meal. The hot and ready to eat food probably took about only 10 minutes or so to come out. First thing I wanted to taste, was the french fries to make sure they were fried crisp and not soaked in oil, they were light crisp and fresh. The ribs were very tender, although I could not taste the seasoning too well, but who needs the added salt anyway, right?! The wings were prepared just right, they displayed no pinkness inside. After waiting 20 minutes for a table , we ordered 3 different types of wings, fries, tater tots and a drink. My wings were hard and chewy , even the taste was not great. I couldn't finish, my grand daughter also said hers were hard and chewy. My daughter said hers were okay, nothing great. After looking at the bill, for my 10 year old grand daughter , her food cost 22.00 for fries, 5 wings and a non-alcoholic drink (8.00!). Total was 50.74 plus tip came out to 61.00. What a gem! Saw so many high ratings and had to try them. Greeted immediately and seated. Their menu had so many different combinations. Because we didn't have lunch, we got the smoked wings, medium spicy. So good! Was brought out quickly and piping hot. Hubby had a beer and I had a coke . Beer selections were a lot. My coke was flat, which my server quickly exchanged for an ice tea which was refreshing. Hubby had the BBB and I had the Butchie. We both selected the tater tots as our side. Both our meals were awesome. Mine was a chopped brisket with melted provolone topped with two beer battered onion rings . You could taste these were beer battered so had to share with the hubby. The tater tots were also delicious. Perfectly seasoned and fried. I was so full by this time I only ate a couple tots and two bites of my sandwich, a sin I know. My hubby's Bbb had blue cheese and bacon. He said it was delicious and was able to just barely finish it, but not the tots. Atmosphere was nice and enjoyed the music. Waitress was attentive and friendly. Brought back my brisket and the tots to the hotel and a couple hours later was able to finish the tots which btw, was still delicious and had that crisp when you bit down.
