My partner went in this location to get a coffee for me, i didn't want to go inside because i was just in an accident and was hurt. He walked in and stood at the coffee bar and was not greeted, but the people that walked in after were greeted. Then he walked around to try to get someone for help and was ignored until he walked into the wine section thinking it had an exit and suddenly was followed around the store without even receiving a hello from an employee. He walks out upset mentioning that he was not even acknowledged and ignored by the employees and was ready to go to another coffee spot. In an attempt to see if this was true, i walked inside in my injured state. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a man telling me he would be right there with me & then a lady stopped her conversation with her friends to offer me help. Coincidentally, he is a dark skinned Hispanic & I am light skinned which has made a difference in the past in the way we are treated. Is this another one of those instances? It was our first time here and I felt so uncomfortable for my partner who was just trying to get me a coffee and had that experience. read more

A gem! Curated wine, beer, and other alcohol selection along with supplies for a charcuterie board (choose from of at least 15 regional and European cheeses) were just what we needed and we found it all at this market. I wish I needed some flowers because they were gorgeous. I spied some wonderfully composed centerpieces being assembled. Great long-distance ordering experience: After researching many other florists in the area, I called Thames River and spoke with Doreen. I explained that I wanted to send a 50th birthday surprise to my sister, who lives in the New London area. Doreen walked me through a number of options, and we ended up settling on a triple orchid . My daughters wedding was this past Saturday at Harkness Park. While the flowers were very nice the delivery person was late and completely unorganized. In fact, she asked me, the father of the bride to bring the rose petals down to the ceremony while I was getting my picture taken for the wedding album. Needless to say the rose petals were never delivered and management is refusing to take accountability for their employee's failure. Its not a large sum of money and I've personally returned the difference to my daughter. What is more important and concerning for future customers is delivery expectations and accountability. Thames River makes some of the most beautiful floral designs I have ever seen! I have gotten a few beautiful arrangements from here and have seen some of the designs going out and would only order from them. A lot of people don't know that, that's not all they are good at! They also have a gift shop, a wine shop and a small deli. I like stopping in for lunch and getting a sandwich from time to time. The menu options are limited but everything they offer is tasty and that's not their main business. My only reason for giving them a 4 and not 5 is because they don't really have an area if you want to eat your lunch there, but it's just a short walk over to the Parade Plaza or the Waterfront to enjoy your takeout with a view. They offer sandwiches, paninis, salads and sometimes soups. They also have baked goods and a few other snacks. Service is prompt and the staff friendly. Really a great place if you are looking for breakfast or lunch downtown. read more

I ordered the least expensive bouquet beforehand in order to give my mother for Mother's Day, having no idea what to expect. For $45, though, it was truly worth every penny. The flowers were absolutely gorgeous. In letting the florist choose the flowers and arrange the bouquet herself, I took somewhat of a risk, but it paid off. They were arranged beautifully, and only the most beautiful, freshest flowers were picked. Not all of them were open at first, but as the flowers bloomed over the next few days, the bouquet only became more and more beautiful. There were absolutely perfect roses, big beautiful lilies, and snapdragons, among other things. The colors went well together. When I gave the bouquet to my mom, she nearly started crying. And over the next few days as the flowers continued to bloom, she said that this was truly the most beautiful bouquet she had ever received, and she urged me to write a review! The flowers stayed fresh for several days, and only started to wilt after nearly a week. I am very pleased with my experience here. It was a beautiful Saturday morning. We needed a bouquet for a graduation. Looked up on line to find a local florist and this shop was at the top of the list. Wonderful reviews. Walked there and found that there were no flowers and was told the "stylist" was not in. And we have no flowers today. Saturday, graduation season, prom season, wedding season, ????. Is this a florist? A coffee shop? Very disappointed. Not as advertised. Oh, when I called prior to my walk there it was a message that was long and convoluted. I pressed the "flower" button but was taken no where. I should have taken that as a hint that they are not a florist. read more
