I'm surprised I have not reviewed Thanh Binh. I've eaten at this restaurant so so long ago, since the older days when the parents of the current owner used to own the restaurant in Fullerton. They were known for their vermicelli with grilled shrimp, pork, and egg roll. And the family recipe continues on to these days. Recently stopped by again for dinner. Had the vermicelli with grilled chicken, beef, and shrimp. It was good and plentiful but I didn't really care for the marinade of the chicken. The grilled beef was excellent though. 4/5 Also had an order of the combo porridge. That also came with shrimp, chicken, and sliced beef. They definitely did not skim on the protein. 4/5 Service was excellent. They always checked and made sure we had everything we needed. 6/5

Called in an order for pick up and it was ready in 10 minutes. The grilled beef ribs is one of our favs from here, and we also ordered side beef broth. Delicious and packaged well. Til next time!

We were tired and hungry and these folks were So Kind. We sat outside in the breeze and they brought us course after course of brilliant, delicious food. And, of course, much-needed ice coffee. We are coming back and, on days we can't, we're ordering from home. Thank you!

Thanh Binh has been an old-school staple Vietnamese restaurant in OC for as long as I can remember. They serve pho and other classic Vietnamese dishes without the hassle of driving all the way down to Bolsa. It's located in the newly renovated Lake Forest Gateway shopping center ~ right off the 5 freeway/between Lake Forest Drive and Rockfield Blvd. The restaurant is found on the far right of the strip-mall, as you enter the plaza. It's a small and quaint location, with indoor & outdoor seating. The walls are decorated with relic culture pieces of art from Vietnam. The staff is friendly, as they greet you instantly upon arrival. We are usually seated right away and service is quick. On this particular occasion, I was having a lunch date with the hubs and was craving the traditional Vietnamese broken rice dish. I ordered the steam rice with pork, egg rolls & tofu. The hubs ordered the sames (minus the tofu), but in the vermicelli rice noodle bowl version. The pork was marinated and grilled perfectly. It's moist and flavorful. Their egg roll reminds me of how my mom makes them, which is always comforting. I additionally love the crispy tofu, because it's also a healthy & filling option. It's ALOT of food, to which I had to take home some. A total good value for the $17 price tag. Needless to say, my hubs enjoyed his dish, because he was able to finish the whole bowl. Lol I've also ordered their oxtail pho (pho duoi bo) in the past and it's pretty solid ~ uber flavorful and you can taste the slow-cooking of the oxtail because the meat literally falls off the bone. Their mi wonton (wonton with egg noodle soup), bun rieu (vermicelli noodle soup with shrimp, crab paste, & tomatoes) and bun bo hue (spicy noodle soup with beef) are our family favorites too. Sooo, if you want decent priced, authentic Vietnamese food with good portions, without the hassle of wasting gas to drive all the way down to Bolsa, then Thanh Binh is for you..you MUST TRY! A total RxFoodie recommend!!!

Ate here for the first time the other day and they serve big portions, tasty food, with good service. The large bowl of pho comes with plenty of noodles and meat, guaranteed to fill your stomach. The egg rolls were pretty good as well.

I came here and this place was open on Bunny Day of the holidays. I was so happy because the place looked clean and the staff was kind and pretty. I got my served menu quickly and the recommendation so I could be at ease with what I was looking to try. I was happy I received my service fast and that it was the right amount of spice for me. I would come again as a result of that day because I often find myself driving to gg for my Viet cuisine now there this spot that closer.

Came across this spot recently and we've been coming back regularly since! Very generous portions for everything, we had to take most of it togo. Can get a little loud inside. We ordered: - calamari: a bit pricey but huge portions and made fresh! Can say this was one of the best calamari I've had in a long time!! - pho with ox tail: the meat on the ox tail was literally falling off the bone. Generous portions of meat and even larger portion for the pho. Could easily share the large size among two people! - vermicelli bowl with pork: this was just alright. Very fresh but nothing too special. Very attentive service, highly recommend this spot

I have never had a bad experience here, ever. There's definitely a demand for the great food and service because there's almost always a small wait to get a table. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food is always hot and tasty. You'll know this place is authentic not only from the trusting staff, but the music being played has the traditional Vietnamese acoustical instruments for that reminder after each bite you take. I often get the Bun Bo Hue, spicy beef noodle soup. I like to add a little fish sauce (concentrate from the glass bottle) and ask for chili oil. It's very good and I highly recommend you try it!

Located in a shopping center near church, Hubby and I stopped by for lunch on Sunday. An older gentleman greeted us immediately and placed us at a nearby table. Our drinks arrived quickly, and we placed our orders. The Spring rolls with shrimp were tasty with a good peanut-topped sauce. It was nice to see 3 sizes of pho to order. Hubby chose the medium Oxtail Pho, and it was enough to share and take some home. I liked the flavorful broth. I ordered the Bun with grilled pork and egg roll. It was good, but I would have liked the fresh herbs to be whole leaves and not minced. Nice grill marks on the pork, but it was a little dry. I love iced Jasmine tea at Vietnamese restaurants! Such a nice, floral taste. Our server checked on us to make sure we didn't need anything. Later, he noticed quickly that I was looking for service, and he refilled my tea promptly. When I asked for to-go containers, he packed up everything for us and gave me a fresh container of nuoc cham to take home. Ample parking in the shopping center lot. Good food and excellent service.

We had them cater our wedding as a late night eats option so our guests can sober up, and hands down they were the highlight of the evening. We had pho & boba catered and to this day we and our guests can't stop raving about it! Our wedding was last week, and now we're trying to figure out what kind of party we can have just so we can have them cater again! The broth was so bomb and all the meat was super tender. I'm pretty sure I had like 5 milk teas with boba back to back it was so good! The workers were so nice and helpful! Absolutely recommend to anyone and everyone!

I have been coming here for a few years now. Today I tried the combo vegetables and tofu pho. It was loaded with broccoli, bok choy, carrots, onions and strips of fried tofu. The broth was tasty and the small pho is very generous. I wasn't crazy about the tofu but it was ok. I probably will stick with another protein next time. The service is fantastic. The food comes out in minutes and they check to make sure you have everything that you need. The ambiance is not great inside or outside as it is small and looks like cafeteria seating inside and outside a few tables and chairs are located on the walkway in front of the restaurant facing a parking lot.

Does your bun rieu come with pork blood and shrimp paste on the side?

Is the tofu and veggie pho actually vegetarian or do they use beef broth?

    Indoor/outdoor dining yet?

As you can see in the recent post. they have been having outdoor seating shaded, for past months. just give a call when you have questions

Is there gluten in the pho soup?

Yes, you can make your own gluten free pho, but that would be counter intuitive when you are in need or looking for soup with restorative powers. if that makes sense. but here I don't think so because its based off the broth.

Is MSG used in all the flavor broths? Some Pho restaurants don't use it in the veggie broth.

    I don't believe so

Do they use MSG in the Pho broth?

Josh is correct, monosodium glutamate is quite harmless, very rarely some people are allergic to it. If anything the added sodium is not helpful, however the amount put into dishes is generally very small, a typical Asian or American dish recipe…

There aren't a lot of restaurant that offer bun bo hue, so I thought I'd also give that a try. I ordered the pho special, but swapped the pho broth for BBH because I saw another review on here mention they did that - and I am so happy I did! It was really tasty and flavorful with the perfect hint of spicy! I would say I'm pretty picky with food and I would bring my Vietnamese parents here. 5/5 on their taro smoothie. I like that it tastes like fresh taro. I don't really like when it tastes too artificial or too sweet, like the taro milk teas from boba shops. It's also extremely light. Super refreshing on hot days. For being a pho shop in lake Forest and not having to drive all the way to Westminster or bolsa. 5/5 on their pho 5/5 on their bun bo hue 5/5 on their vermicelli noodle dishes. I liked their fish sauce with the sambal 3/5 on the shaken beef (bo luc lac) they don't give you a lot and texture was a bit inconsistent. Flavor was good but wouldn't order it again for the price 2/5 on the chicken curry (ca ri ga) I'm used to Vietnamese curry being a bit sweeter and more coconut/creamier? It tasted a little unbalanced, not enough cream and too much spices (tumeric + cumin + coriander). Slightly salty and watery. I didn't like the chicken either . Service is good when you walk in to be seated and when ordering, but they don't always check in if you need water. You just flag them down. Not a big deal. I'm more interested in how the food tastes. I like that the inside reminds me of typical pho restaurants. Nice and simple. Here for the food! I'll be back!

About Banh mi, the same thing as you see in the picture the meat portion is too little in compare to bread. Most of each part was bread so tasting mostly like bread If not the meat itself was delicious when i tried separately. They didnt offer jalapeños or lemon.
