Stopped by on a Sunday night around 7 PM which was quiet with an empty plaza, so parking was incredibly easy. The restaurant itself was calm, with only soft background music playing, making it a nice place to enjoy a relaxed meal. Service was friendly and our food came out quickly. We ordered a few dishes to share. The Pad See Ew was delicious: the noodles had a great chewy texture, and the beef was tender and cooked well. The Papaya Salad had a nice balance of flavors, with the fish sauce coming through without overpowering the dish. The satay was decent as well. The peanut sauce had a rich, nutty flavor that paired really well with the grilled meat. We also tried two curries. I enjoyed both, but I preferred the yellow curry over the pumpkin curry. The yellow curry had a richer coconut flavor that made it especially comforting, while the pumpkin curry was still good but didn't stand out quite as much. The Pineapple Fried Rice rounded out the meal nicely. The pineapple was sweet, and added enough to balance the savory fried rice. This is my first visit to Bhan Baitong Thai. It was suggested by a friend for our group meeting. They have no trouble seating a large party as the place was not busy at all. I had high expectation of the Thai boat noodle I ordered. It looked good when it arrived. Alas beef slices were overcooked and very tough. The soup base was salty for my taste. I asked it to be very spicy and it was so. Serving size was as expected. I might come back if invited but it wouldn't be my first choice. read more

Bhan Baitong is your typical neighborhood Thai restaurant. Food is pretty basic - if you order spicy, it won't be up to Thai spicy levels. It is set in a strip mall. I visited on a weekend and the mall was so quiet that I was worried the restaurant was closed (it wasn't). My pad see ew was fine. My husband ordered his pineapple curry spicy and was disappointed to find that it wasn't spicy at all. I am a spice wimp and I could eat it. The interior is pleasant and the service is good. I wish I could have given this place 3.5 stars. It's not a place I would go out of my way for, but if I was in the area and looking for a lunch special, Bhan Baitong would fit the bill. Small Thai cafe I found while scrolling through different places on Google maps. Same way as you will find it as well most likely. It's a clean, small, friendly spot with genuinely nice and super accommodating staff. I came in right before closing, and no one rushed me or made me feel like I was holding them up. That part was great. But the food... that's where that's where I had a problem. I am no Thai person, but the flavors were just off. I've eaten Thai food all over Los Angeles, and this didn't taste like any Thai I know. The Pad Thai, fried rice and Tom Ka, all felt completely out of balance maybe that's how they do it in some regional style, but it didn't hit right. I think the biggest problem is how they prepare their chicken. It tasted the same in every dish: rubbery, chewy, and flavorless. It honestly felt like they made a giant batch of chicken in the morning and just reused it across everything. You can even see it on the pictures, exact same chicken reused everywhere. I'm so happy to find a legit authentic Thai restaurant in South OC. This place is located in a strip mall so there is plenty of parking. We went around their opening time so it was still empty with just us and another set of customers. Angels wings were very well seasoned, crispy and juicy! Most Thai restaurants around me don't offer angel wings anymore so I was very happy to find a restaurant that offers it. Thai boat noodles - we asked for spicy and they really packed the heat for us. The portion was really big, maybe a bit too big for boat noodles since it's usually a small street food dish but we enjoyed the flavors. Again most restaurants don't offer boat noodles as an option so we were happy to eat it. Pad Seewe - the flavor was good but the portion felt a bit smaller than other places. We asked for spicy and for this dish it wasn't spicy enough. Thai Milk Tea - the large was huge and I liked that it was sweet but not sickeningly sweet. It had good flavor. Mango sticky rice - the mango was ripe with a slight sourness which was a good contrast to the sweet sticky rice. The restaurant is spacious and the staff was very friendly. But the flavor just isn't there. My pad Thai was really bland, and my papaya salad was also lacking the flavor punch that one comes to expect from Thai food. It was so tasteless that I had to check my temp to see if maybe I caught COVID or something. Was it me? Am I glitching? Maybe they have better dishes in their line up? I rated it a 3.5 and that's just because of how particular I am with my pad thai, I could taste the oil in their noodles and it just was too much for me. The service was really great tho, very attentive and kind, I would come back for just the spring rolls because of the fried crispy wontons inside and the beef green curry was full of flavor and just enough spice. We ordered from both lunch special and regular entrees and were honestly happy with everything! The food had great flavor and the prices were great! Now our local favorite. We have been on the hunt for the best Thai for a couple months now trying every one we can find in the area and while it was a tie for a hot minute - we have decided that this is our favorite place. Our final deciding factor - definitely have the Tom Kha Soup! Our go to meals for trying that we like best are Pad Thai, Pad See Yew, and Papaya salad. I make a good chicken yellow thai curry so I never order it anywhere else but I did today and it was oh so yummy! The menu has a lot of items, like appetizers, rice dishes, and more. I went ahead and ordered the Pad Thai Combo, my girlfriend got the Pad See Ew, and we got the Mango Sticky Rice to finish it off. In case you're wondering how the food was: - Pad Thai Combo: Delicious, and a hefty portion. The combo has pork, shrimp, and beef. The menu doesn't say that you can choose a spice level for this dish, so I specifically requested it to be very spicy. It was perfect. - Pad See Ew: My girlfriend liked it, and I also tried it (and helped her finish it). She got it with pork. The pork was cooked well done and the noodles al dente. I'm not a fan of this dish in general anywhere, but I can say it was pretty good. - Mango Sticky Rice: Ripe mango and sticky rice, incredible. I feel like the rice to mango ratio was just right for me :D. Service was good. The server was friendly and we were greeted when we entered as well as when we left. There's plenty of parking. This is a whole in a wall type of place. It's located in a mall that's a bit run down, but don't let its appearance scare you away. This is one of the most authentic Thai places in OC. I shared this Thai place with my sister in-law and she would drive 30 minutes here to get the food. My go to here is crispy pork (if you're getting delivery or to go, get the crispy pork on the side so it doesn't get soggy), pad see yu, panan curry.
