They are a smaller cafe so you can expect to wait for a table on the weekend. I opted for the half size biscuits and gravy with an added patty on top and my husband opted for their monster burrito. Both entrees had great flavor and the staff was very hospitable and friendly. There is plenty of street parking and they also have a small parking lot available. Overall, Compass Rose Cafe is worth a stop if you're in the area and want to relax with some good food!

This is easily the worst and most inconsistent McDonald's I have ever been to. McDonald's…read morefranchises are highly coveted, and with many locations representing a million-dollar-plus investment, it is hard to understand why this restaurant is operated so poorly. Almost every time I go through the drive-thru, they take the order and then make me pull forward and park instead of delivering the food at the window. The other day, I ordered only fries and a Coke. They handed me the Coke, then still told me to pull over and wait for the French fries. That should not happen for such a simple order. This is also the most inefficient drive-thru process I have ever encountered. The whole point of a drive-thru is to place your order, pay, pull to the second window, and receive your food. Instead, this location routinely turns the drive-thru into some other form of fast-food delivery by making customers park and wait while employees have to walk the food out. Why is it even a drive-thru anymore if that is the normal process? The food quality is also very inconsistent. Sometimes the French fries are good, and other times they are cold. Sometimes the Cokes are good, and other times they are flat. Sometimes the food tastes fresh, and other times it does not. You never know what kind of experience you are going to get. The ordering process takes far too long, the drive-thru is consistently unorganized, and the whole experience feels inefficient. To be clear, I do not blame the employees working the counter or the drive-thru. I blame the leadership, ownership, and management of this location. McDonald's is not inexpensive anymore. With what customers are paying today, the owner should want this location operating much better than it does. This restaurant could be maximizing its investment and serving the Brookings community far more effectively, but whoever is in charge needs to make serious changes.
