Great little breakfast and coffee spot. We chose this spot because they allowed dogs in the patio. Our pup was provided with water and scrambled eggs. We got the classic (breakfast burrito) and the French toast platter. Everything was so good! We also got coffee to go. I got the honeybee and it was just what I needed. Service was amazing and quick. Servers were really nice and friendly. Definitely check this place out.

"Large" waffle that takes up less than 1/4 of the plate. Over cooked bacon and stone cold waffle.

Probably won't be going back. Tried again for the third time. Got the waffle, bacon, scrambled eggs. Waffle was warmer than previous visit. Bacon was still severely over cooked, almost as if it's pre-cooked in a mold and reheated. Also overheard one of the staff tell a customer that they ran out of waffles. Do you mean to tell me that they don't even make their own waffles? My guess is that because of the limited kitchen, a lot of food is prepared elsewhere. I really did give this place a chance after my first visit which was quite good. However, when I want a hearty homemade breakfast, this won't be the place to go.

Great little place for breakfast! Very cozy inside. It fills up quickly since it's a small space. Food is great! Would definitely recommend!

The Plain Jane breakfast sandwich lists "scrambled eggs" as one of the components, but this egg was cooked in a mold most likely in the microwave, or maybe in an oven. A scrambled egg is a specific thing; it's prepared over low heat and pushed around resulting in fluffy curds. The egg in this sandwich was like an airy sponge and was very bland. I don't think there was any butter or salt or anything. It wasn't *bad* it was just not good.

Exceptional Experience @ Compass Rose Cafe in Brookings, OR. !! First time patrons as a party of 4 on a Saturday morning in May. We were promptly greeted and instructed to order at the counter after we decided on our meals. The space itself is wonderfully decorated with unique and fun artwork. It definitely kept us busy with delight. I loved the scenic views playing on their tv as well. Our order was served pretty quickly. Specialty drinks were delicious. Each of us thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast meals. Very clean restaurant throughout. Great use of space, including single person bathroom. We look forward to returning the next time we're in town! Thank you!!

Great place for breakfast or brunch. I had the ham and Swiss breakfast sandwich. My wife had the avocado toast both were fantastic. Great service. You walk up to the counter to order and they bring your food out. Limited seating inside. Some outside seating but traffic noise.

What a quaint little place. The atmosphere was so calming and pleasant. We had breakfast on a Sunday morning with a great cup of coffee. The staff seemed to work so well together and friendly. Absolutely feel like we found a little gem of a cafe.

My family and I visited Brookings today and happened to be walking by this little shop when we saw the sign Metolious Chai outside, we are big fans of Metolius so we stopped in and my wife got a chai and I asked for the spiciest Mexican mocha they've ever made. Spicier than the core of Mount Vesuvius, spicier than the eye of a Cayenne tornado... and they delivered! As the barista handed me the coffee she said "it's very spicy" and after I took the first sip I ensure them that it was perfect. Also the ambience of the place was just wonderful! It was a cross between a relaxing spa and a small town mom and Pops breakfast joint. Just perfect.

My friend and I took a trip down to Brookings to see the Redwood National Park. We stopped here both mornings since the bagels and coffee were just that amazing. Hard working staff and the cutest little shop!

I stopped by Mattie's Pancake House today 2/15/2026 while passing through, and honestly, it turned…read moreout to be one of those memorable roadside gems you're so glad you didn't miss. The place was super busy when I arrived there were people waiting outside, which is always a good sign but since I was dining solo, I got seated right away with no wait at all. The atmosphere inside is warm, cozy, and welcoming, with really cool décor featuring cars and car photos that give the restaurant personality and a fun, nostalgic vibe. It feels comfortable rather than fancy, the kind of place where you can relax, sip your coffee, and enjoy your food without feeling rushed. I ordered the shrimp and Swiss cheese omelette with jalapeño, and it was absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and perfectly cooked. The portion was generous, and it came out piping hot and surprisingly fast considering how busy they were. The coffee was amazing too rich, fresh, and exactly what you want with a hearty breakfast. What really stood out was the service. The servers were attentive, friendly, and on top of everything despite the crowd. They made sure coffee stayed filled, checked in at the right moments, and kept things moving smoothly without making it feel rushed or chaotic. Another big plus: the prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality and portion sizes. It's rare to find a place that balances great food, fast service, cozy ambiance, and affordability this well. Overall, I'd easily rate it around 4.5 stars. If you're driving along Highway 101 or anywhere near Brookings, this spot is absolutely worth the stop. It's busy for a reason great food, great vibe, and great service all in one place.
