I came in here impressed by the reviews, I was looking for the same catered and peaceful jean buying experience like my old favorite neighborhood jean shop, slash clothing in berkeley. I am happy to say I am simply amazed with her personal touch and one on one attention. The shop is divided into two square rooms, womens in front, mens in the rear. Each room is lined in racks of jeans, separated by size. Neta listens to what you want, checks the fit, and shuffles through to get you started and help you find the jeans for you. It's really a matter of fit. If you want an exceptional jean buying experience that is sure to send you home with at least one pair that fits you like a glove, take time to stop at That Jean Shop. I came here because my mom was in town and I wanted her to buy me jeans instead of paying for them myself. I'm going to shamelessly put that out there. This is the better option compared to when she bought me XL t-shirts and baggy loose jeans that have the weirdest fades....from the clearance aisle...at Ross. You approach this boutique and you need to realize: it's kind of small. I expected piles and piles of jeans, but the store was split into two with women's on one side and men's on the other. And there were like 30 or so jeans for each size. She had all different types of brands, too, which was cool - but I did not recognize most of all the brands. Obviously I felt like I lacked the hip up-to-date gene...jean...gene. Heh. The AMAZING part of this shop is NETA. She will tell you what looks hot or not. I seriously would go back just to get her opinion. HAHAHA. She's not just trying to sell her jeans but will tell you (and with a lot of enthusiasm, mind you). She even successfully woo'd my petite Asian mother into buying some pretty awesome jeans that...she made. What a monster. A good one. Pros: - Prices are pretty ridiculously low. Ranged from $59-79 for a lot of the jeans (this is like a sample sale price!). Nothing more than that. She even gave me a pair for 45 (her buying price) because she was afraid they were going to rip someday. I. WILL. TAKE. THAT. - 10% STUDENT DISCOUNT. SHOW YOUR ID. - No tax if you pay cash. - Neta. She's the biggest pro. You wont find such candid but helpful advice. - Wide selection of top jeans. Con: - The store is little dark, which makes you question the color, but you could easily step into the sunlight or outside to check out colors/fades. - Parking can be tricky. Don't park at Ralphs - they seemed to actually have someone making sure people don't park and go elsewhere. There's metered and street parking! In the end my mom bought 3 pairs and I bought 2 pairs. I thought this place closed months ago! But the jeans were still hanging by the window outdoors. A sign was posted on the door instructing customers to knock. I was stoked! It's been about a year since my first (and last) visit to That Jean Shop but when that door opened, the owner Neta welcomed me as a friend who she was happy to see after a long while. That's what I remembered most about her customer service from last time I was here with Jin Y. At first I'd thought that it would be pricey and pretentious and pressuring (the three evil P's) because they carry the best brands and encourage you to make a reservation to come. But I found out that it was just the opposite - they do so because the store is small and packed to the gills, their selection is wonderful, and their prices are, like the Crazy Eddie commercials of the 80s that you should really watch on YouTube, INSANE. They'll stay away from you if that's your bag, or tell you what looks good and what doesn't, and, best of all, they'll cut you a package deal if you get a few pairs. I've always had a hard time finding jeans that fit right. I'm a guy, and I don't know what the hell I'm doing. Neta is a jeans expert! She is so patient and fun, it actually makes trying on clothes enjoyable. The experience was so great that when it came time to ask for the price, I was expecting a big bill. I mean, this is L.A. and I'm getting first class service in a boutique. I was shocked at how low the price was! I even googled the jeans I bought and the cheapest place online was still three times as much as I paid! I will never, ever, again buy jeans from anybody but Neta. I'm unqualified to rate this shop, but that's the exact reason I am rating it... I don't believe I've ever bought anything in a store where you have to ring a bell to enter... Or had one and one service. I was under-informed what I was looking for... What specifics... And Neta was a pro and patient with me... Typically I'm a guy that goes in a store, figures out which Levi's fit, then buys three pair at a time at the best price I can find. But I had a LIVE performance coming up and wanted something a little "nicer" or "stylish." Contrasting that, a gentlemen came in, as I was wrapping up, and he knew EXACTLY what he was looking for, EXACTLY... As he was literally somewhat an expert on jeans. And she seemed to handle him with equal ease, and a plethora of choices. The price was as high as I've ever paid for jeans. So out of curiosity I looked the jeans up online, after I bought them, and it turns out I paid significantly less than they were listed on line. So, I don't know how it could be better... I haven't bought myself a new pair of jeans in a very long time because I hate shopping. Why? Because it's a painful process where I don't know which stores to go to. Because I don't know what size I am and don't even know how to measure myself. Because there are so many different styles of jeans to try out. Because I'm lazy and don't want to deal with it. Combine that altogether and jean shopping feels DAUNTING. But lo and behold, this was the best denim buying experience ever. This was my first time visiting That Jean Shop so I didn't know what to expect. Once you get situated inside the store (it's literally just you and Neta the owner), the magic begins. There are two rooms; I think one room has all the women's jeans and the other has all the men's jeans. There are these long, huge curtains that cover up a little nook - it's the changing room. Neta knew immediately what size I was by just looking at my figure. We both picked out different washes and styles of jeans I could try on. There were many different styles that I would never have picked out that I got to try on and LOVED. I was so surprised! Who would've thought I would actually like bell bottom cropped jeans? :) My petite ladies, if you have trouble finding good jeans in your size, come here as well. I'm 5' 2" and have always had trouble finding good jeans that aren't a bajillion inches longer than my ankles. All the jeans I tried on fit me like a glove. I won't need to get them personally tailored/hemmed. The whole process took about an hour; not once did Neta rush or pressure me to purchase something. She was so sweet, funny, and personable. And boy, she's knowledgeable about her denim. Her prices are also reasonable and she doesn't charge tax if you pay cash. Thank you again, Neta! Hope to visit again soon. *I do recommend that you call and make an appointment before you visit the store. It's not your traditional store where it stays open from 10am to 7pm. Neta is very flexible; I called the day of to make an appointment, and she booked me in to meet her an hour later. There is no private parking lot to park your car, but there is the Ralph's across the street and residential street parking around the corner. read more

I just came in over the weekend, and it was toward the end of the day. Neta, the owner, was very sweet and really helpful - not only because she was able to help me find jeans that I really liked - but also because she even offered to stay late just so that I could try on as many pairs as I wanted. How cool was that? My first impression when I walked in was something that can be likened to a kid in a candy store. Seriously, my eyes bulged as I saw the enormous selection and thought to myself "How will I ever sort through them all?" But the sizes are easy to find, and it's not overwhelming, even if you have only a vague idea of what you'd like. I tried on about a dozen pairs of jeans and I came out with 3. The 3 I found are gorgeous! It was hard to narrow it down to just those pairs, but realistically, even for a good price, I'm on a budget. But really, 3 pairs of GOOD jeans for less than what I've found in any other department store, sale or not, and I am sold! People, tell your friends, but only the good ones! Why share the joy with people who aren't deserving? Kidding... Okay, recap: Pros: PRICE Selection Service. Neta will tell you what looks good and what doesn't. She'll say whether she likes them or not, but she isn't pushy. She always reminds you that since YOU'RE the customer and she'd like for you to return, it's most important for YOU to be happy with your purchase. I like her attitude. Cons: Dressing rooms are a wee bit small Parking is tricky. I parked at Ralphs, but I was a tiny bit worried...there were definitely parking enforcers lurking. Just came here for the second time - still awesome, and always will be! I was able to buy a pair of medium wash jeans and gray shorts for such a good price. As a college student on a budget, this store was totally okay for me! Neta gives you great deals and jeans are constantly on sale. Again, I was in here with something vague on my mind, and Neta was able to help me find what I wanted. Not only does she want her customers to look good, but she wants the jeans to feel good as well. She's so good at understanding customers' needs! Not to mention, she is fun to talk to! Another important note is that she isn't pushy like the sales reps at Bloomingdale's or Nordstrom (ew, and totally overpriced, btw), who clearly wants to earn commission off of you. Let me preface this review by saying: I never write reviews. I signed up for yelp for the check-in offers. I don't enjoy shopping. I find it stressful and frustrating. I have never in my life found jeans that flatter my body or fit the way I want it to. That being said, my shopping experience with Neta was MAGICAL. I made an appointment, described what I was looking for and grabbed a handful of jeans off of the racks to give her an idea of what I wanted. Then she worked her magic, bringing me and my friend piles of things she thought fit our criteria. I don't know how it worked out like this, but almost everything she brought us fit like a glove and we both walked out with 5-6 pairs of brand new designer jeans for an unbelievable price. I first went to That Jean Shop in 2010, when it just opened. I instantly had a great connection with the incredibly sweet owner, Neta. She showed me her huge collection of beautiful jeans and helped me find just the right jeans for me. So not only was her selection incredible, but the shopping experience was a joy because the owner was so lovely. I hadn't been to That Jean Shop since they moved their location. I went back today for my first pair of skinny jeans and jeggings. Once again, Neta was fantastic company and helped me find two pairs of amazingly flattering jeans! I am so grateful! I will never go to a big corporate store again to find jeans. I came across some RRL jeans that I am certain are not authentic -- not selvedge, cheap imitation RRL patch, subpar wash, etc. The fact alone that the jeans were not selvedge was a dead giveaway. RRL makes some of the most meticulously crafted jeans I have seen, but these were more alike a $40 pair of jeans. I didn't even bother looking around further, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was other imitations in the pile. If you do not know much about denim (and apparently almost a hundred people who reviewed this place don't), I would be wary of shopping here. read more

I agree- truly a diamond in the rough. I was driving down Pico one day to get my car fixed down the street. I never come around this side of town, but fate brought me to... That Jean Shop. 70% off designer jeans, how could I refuse? I walked in and Neta (the girl who owns this place) was so friendly and inviting. I tried on like 50 pairs of jeans but ended up leaving with only 2 items. I felt bad, but it's really not my fault I have the most awkward body proportions (it's my parents'..) 10% discount for students on the already amazing deals.
