Talk of the town has been hilarious trying to figure the name of the new place in town everyone is recommending, which is literally called, "That New Place". Glad we decided to check it out! Super cute and bright spot! Welcoming atmosphere with a diverse crowd. Two bakery cases, a deep freezer of dinners to go, and a refreshing menu offering delicious combinations. You can have a seat at one of their tables or you hop up to the counter. Either place, you can get a freshly made hot or iced beverage. Looking forward to more Sunday mornings at "That New Place"!

I've been meaning to get over here to check out "That New Place" for a while now. I'm a big fan of the family who owns and runs this place, and have been admiring the photos of the food on FB for the past few years. We took time on our spring break to make it over to downtown Williamston to check it out. Right off the bat, when you walk in, the ambiance is cool, arty, and welcoming. The "gallery wall" decor is full of original art made by real local artists, and not store-bought reproductions. I LOVE that. The whimsical salt and pepper shakers add character and warmth to the tables. The menu is well-rounded with meat, vegetarian, and vegan options. The flavor profiles are elevated beyond the typical breakfast place, but not in a way that is intimidating. For instance, I enjoyed the hammy sandwich with a rosemary cream-cheese spread. It was so good. The bread was whole-grain and toasted, being fluffy with the right amount of crunch. The coffee was full of flavor (not too watery and roasted to perfection). My tip: save room for the pastries. The carrot cheesecake was maybe the best I've ever had. I took half my sandwich with me just so I could enjoy the bakery. The baked goods are not to be missed!

    Wonderful scones & delicious coffee!

Great local gem featuring inspired breakfast & lunch menus. Chef owned with a flair to innovation without losing that homey touch. Top notch pastries too! Everything is fresh & local. Carrie & Ray are great community supporters who give back to the area in a variety of ways. Do yourself a favor and check out That New Place in Williamston!

Food tastes fresh and Staff is welcoming & efficient. Food is pricey but worth it if you are looking for a quality meal in an antique small town

What a GEM. It's a small place, and you are going to wait on a Sunday, but trust me they have the BEST EGGS BENEDICT I've ever had. Savory, amazingly poached & really good flavor. Their biscuits aren't just flour and buttermilk, they could stand on their own, but topped with gravy they are even better! CHEERS to the Chef!

Incredible little breakfast treasure in downtown Williamston. Each dish homemade with care and unique fresh ingredients. The candied bacon was to die for! Also delicious pastry's. The candied orange & cocoa nib scone was bursting with the genuine flavors described.

Succotash breakfast with candied bacon. Homemade chai latte with oat milk. So good!

I was very impressed by this little diner in Williamston. The menu was very fresh, the food was awesome, and the waitress answered all our questions (which foods contain dairy, etc). I would definitely go back!

That New Place is a worthy successor to the In Kind Bakery. We have tried both the weekend and the week day menus. My favorite is the succotash, which is not the lima bean and corn mix that I grew up with, but is a mix of sweet potato, roasted corn and black beans. This "hash" is topped by an egg poached in tomatillo sauce. It is breakfast perfection! My husband's favorite is the weekday Cuban sandwich. Their baked goods are also not to be missed, especially the key lime tart or the chocolate chip pecan with sea salt cookies.

I personally think it had been about 35 years since I'd seen anybody there. To be honest, not being from the area (I live in Troy, MI) when told where we were going to a Bar & Grill called Spag's I didn't know what to think. Well, it was perfect! We had our own room and were not rushed to leave after finishing lunch. The service was great, as was the food. The tables were consistently cleared, waitstaff very attentive; if you wanted to order a drink from the bar they didn't take long to get. We had plenty of room. There were rectangle tables along the wall so that all the memorabilia could be nicely displayed. I also liked that there were 8 seats at round tables. I don't like when places cram 10 seats. Not related to the restaurant, I'd like to add a bit more of why we were all gathered together. There were 4 generations of family from 3 different states. Jim had one surviving niece and was an Uncle of various generations to the rest of us. After 82 years, James W. Swartz remains were finally identified and returned home to be laid to rest with his parents. His parents never gave up hope that one day he would be identified and come home. He was only 18 when he signed up to serve. At that time WW2 had not begun. Jim was a prisoner of war at the Cabanatun Japanese POW Camp In 1942. He survived the unimaginable , inhumane & cruel 66 mile "Bataan Death March" in April of '42 to the Japanese POW camp. Unfortunately, his hand was cut during the march and because he received no medical care it became gangrene which was probably the major cause of his death. He passed away September '42 and was buried in mass grave # 434 with no type of identification attached. When the grave was exhumed in 1949, Jim's remains were classified nonrecoverable. Over the years the remains were moved to other sites, but still unidentifiable. Finally in November 2024 his family was told they identified his remains and he would be brought back home in April or May 2025. In closing, I'd like to thank Spag's for being so considerate to all of us at the luncheon. Your kindness was greatly appreciated. If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely stop in. If I know of someone that will be near there, I will recommend they stop in. Thank you, Trish Willey
