This is restaurant is a gem- just amazing breakfast, amazing service, felt like I was visiting someone's home, very friendly. I got the eggs Benedict, I should have taken a picture! The eggs were perfect, the hollandaise sauce was very good, the ham was thick grilled slices- delicious. Served on a large English muffin that I believe was homemade. The home fries were so good!! Large potato slices fried but not super greasy. A large portion and only $11.95 with a drink. Service was fast, genuinely friendly, and there were regulars in having breakfast, talking with staff like they are long time friends. I will definitely be back- with my family. This place reminds me of Old Hamlin in Ludington, a LONG time family favorite. read more

Well if you're looking for a place to eat breakfast this is the place. The food was really good. Plates were clean. Waitress did was attentive and quick. French toast was thick and delicious. I visited Spuds for breakfast.The worst food I have ever tried. The place is old and smells like greasy. The coffee was cold and tasteless. When I asked the waitress for hot coffee, her answer was that they were about to close, so they didn't have hot coffee. The food was impossible to eat since it was cold and greasy. Customers are still paying for their food, so regardless of they are opening or about to close, customers should receive the same service. I n addition, when I asked for a box, expecting to warm up the food at home, I was told to take it myself. I do not recommend this place at all! read more

I say the best reason to come here is for breakfast. They just do a good simple breakfast. There is always a crowd of older folks drinking coffee and chatting. But not in a "this is our local place so get out" manner. It feels comfortable in here. The staff are attentive without being over the top, and the owner always seems to be around smiling and checking on folks. I slammed a Spud's Special today. Scrambled eggs with ham, and American fries with green peppers and onions topped with sausage gravy. It was hot and quick and sooo tasty!! Love their breakfast items, omelettes and home fries are the best around. I also enjoy their meatloaf which reminds me of my Dad's recipe. The gyro is also fabulous with all the fixings( chunks of feta, kalamata olives, etc) one of the best locally. We love going to local restaurants, Spuds is one of our favorites, for breakfast or lunch. We like the homemade diner style food and atmosphere. The staff is always so friendly and nice, and knows all the regulars. The only issue we encounter is the hostess. She seems to get flustered and upset, when things aren't working her way. We have seen her be short with customers. Seems to be in the way of her fellow coworkers, who are trying so hard to get the orders out. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for breakfast and felt this was a great family diner! There were a lot of customers which is always a good sign. We ordered a few things to try and everything was pretty good. I loved the home fries and the corned beef hash. Both had great flavor and were not too salty. My boyfriend liked his French toast and they even accommodated his egg white obsession! We got a slice of chocolate cake and some baklava to go and those were delicious as well. Spud's is my go-to place for breakfast whether I am alone or have house guests. Their hash-browns are not shredded or frozen, it's more like home fries. But they'll deep-fry them for you if you ask -- yummy! Eggs and bacon cooked perfectly. I enjoy the Greek omelet, loaded with gyro meat, tomatoes, onion and feta. Great coffee! Great service, many of the servers have been there for years. They recognize their regulars, call them by name, and even sit with them for a brief chat, if it's not too busy. The prices are reasonable, the atmosphere's homey, and if you want something you don't see on the menu, just ask. They will do their best to accommodate you. The place is huge, so if the parking lot looks full, don't pass it by - go in anyway. It's "seat yourself" so don't stand there waiting, pick a table or booth and someone will be with you shortly. I've had lunch there a few times and haven't been overly impressed, but definitely get the breakfast - it's BANGIN'. read more

I've only experienced the breakfast - but on several occasions (consistent stop early coffee and food with the family). Great tasting and well worth the stop. Staff are extremely friendly and on top of things as well. They waitresses have a longstanding tenure here - so you establish a report with them and they take the time to know you as a customer. read more

At Spud's this morning I had their western omelet. The omelet was delicious...except for the green pepper. The pepper was raw and the pieces were too large. It was no problem picking the pieces out, but why bother ordering something with one of the components not properly cooked? The toast was under toasted so when i took a bite it tore off way too big a piece of bread. On the other hand, the potatoes were overcooked. A lot of it was dark brown and those pieces were too difficult to chew. The pieces that weren't over cooked were too dry. This was a big disappointment because the last time I was there the potatoes were excellent. I'm sorry now that I raved about them, because I don't want people going there after reading my review and not get what I told them they can expect. I might return some day but I will be visiting many other restaurants before I return. The service was average, but certainly nothing to complain about. I'm not motivated to go back here, considering there are a lot of breakfast spots in Lansing who have great food and where the staff have manners. This place has really went down in quality of service. One time they got our order wrong twice, yes twice, who does that? And then they didn't even have the courtesy to discount the meal. Spuds is amazing. Their food is homemade and the best breakfast food. It is hard for my husband, both kids (10 & 8) and I to go somewhere and we all say 'that was the best' when we leave. My husband says they have the best sausage gravy & biscuits, I love their home fries and my daughter said 'they have the best breakfast ever, even better than yours, sorry mom'. lol. Their burgers are delicious. The food is always hot when you get it and the entire staff is always friendly. They treat everyone like a regular. read more

Breakfast is always a great meal. Lots of regulars there when you go. I think that is a sign that things are good. Love their omelets especially the Farmer omelet. Have been there for lunch on occasion. My favorite then a veal parmesan. One thing that is fun is about the third Saturday of every month other than the summer months that have Greek night. Lots of great Greek dishes, appropriate music to go with the night, Lemon Rice soup or Greek salad, Greek greenbeens, Greek potatoes, a few wonderful spreads for the toast. I love Greek Night!
