The staff from beginning to end were amazing and so helpful. The lab technician was patient and kept calm with me. The Nursing staff were all excellent. There was a young man that initially assisted me to the room and was so helpful getting me on to the gurney. Gem was my assigned nurse and she was quick and efficient. She came in routinely to check in on me and provided supportive methods to help alleviate the pain. Dr. Philip Lin was attentive and thorough in explaining what I was experiencing. I was in the ER for 19 hours because they didn't have any beds upstairs. That is unacceptable. But the doctors and nurses did their best to care for me until I could be admitted. Wen was part of the overnight staff and was incredible. The ER was not sanitary. The bathrooms in the waiting room and within the ER especially were not being maintained and I might have contracted the flu from using them. Once I was admitted to the second floor, the levels of care were exponentially better. I had around the clock care and a call button for if I needed anything. They made sure I knew what was happening with my body and gave me full control over my treatment options. The food was surprisingly acceptable; sometimes even good. One thing that I found strange was that I never was told about how billing worked or what my insurance would cover. I am lucky that they are contracted with my insurance and I only owe $50 from the ER. But it is concerning that I never was told about billing while I was there. TLDR: Hire more sanitation workers!

She asked what music from Spotify or YouTube video I want to watch. I opted for the Spotify and told her what music I wanted to listen to. There was no one else waiting. I was brought to a changing room. Make sure there are no metals in or on your body. Since I had a full body mri scan, it took 45 min. Since I chose Spotify music, the tech also put on YouTube video, but it made me nauseous. So I asked if I can turn it off. She turned it off for me. Laying there was super comfortable. They had paddings on the machine. After, the scan I can choose snacks that they provided. They had various mixture of different snacks.

Today, I went to the laboratory for a blood draw. I specifically requested a butterfly needle because I have very small veins and have difficulty with blood draws. Several laboratory staff members in the past have told me that I can request a butterfly needle for this reason. Unfortunately, the staff member who drew my blood today was extremely forceful when inserting the needle. She poked me so hard that I had to hold myself back from screaming because of the pain. I understand that drawing blood from small veins can sometimes be challenging. However, there is no reason for a patient to be treated so roughly. I expected the procedure to be performed carefully, gently, and professionally. This experience was very upsetting and disappointing. As a Kaiser member of more than 15 years, I have never made a complaint like this before. I believe this staff member needs to improve her technique and, especially, the way she handles patients during blood draws. Patients should not have to endure unnecessary pain because a procedure is performed without enough care or gentleness. I am submitting this complaint because I hope Kaiser will take this matter seriously and provide appropriate feedback or training to prevent another patient from having the same experience
