I have never been to a coffee shop where they put heart swirls in your latte. It was quite a cool experience. My friend and I went for breakfast one morning. The staff was pleasant, my mocha had a heart in it, and the banana vegan bread was good (crumbly and vegan, but good). I liked the atmosphere and there were a lot of people on their computers so I'm sure they have wifi. We sat outside because it was a beautiful morning and the atmosphere was great there as well. Thatchers is a great place to get coffee if you are looking for a place that doesn't have staff screaming your name so loud- I love that. I can enjoy coffee and conversation without feeling like I am in a WWF arena. The coffee is great. They make their own syrups so the coffee doesn't have a weird chemical taste. Since moving from Portland to Vancouver, Thatcher's has become my home-away-from-home. I really believe they have the best coffee in the 'couv and the atmosphere inside is lovely. This review has nothing to do with the quality of service, or the coffee. They have great service, and great coffee. In fact they are one of my favorite coffee establishments in Vancouver. The reason that I am giving them a 3 star review is because Thatchers refuses to accept cash as payment. We live in the United States of America, and cash is legal tender for goods & services. There is absolutely no good reason a business can give me for not accepting cash as payment. I love the aesthetics I love the employees I also love the diversity of coffees and pastries that they offer. Unfortunately I just do not like the rotating brewed coffee which is the only type of coffee I drink. I find it really hard to give them anything below a four-star because everything else is outstanding and I just have a very particular pallet for my coffee's. Thatchers has a very cozy environment which is what makes it a good place to do work at. The mocha is rich and chocolatey. The workers, are nice, making friendly conversation while you're ordering/getting your drink. Would recommend coming here if you have a lot to get done and want to be productive. read more

Since the last couple times I've visited the place I've noticed the beautiful heart warming American flag was displayed high and proud on the left hand wall when you walk in. I decided to ask the cashier where it was and when are they gonna put it back up. She essentially replied, "it's never going to be up there because it's too political." Political? Seriously? A symbol of freedom, prosperity, justice, sacrifice, and generosity is political? I don't know who owns the place, but if you are gonna cradle to the thoughts of one or two people being offended by the flag. Then so what! You might as well get rid of the "Americano" then, because it has the word American in it and change to the "commie-cano." Old folk tale is that during World War Two is where the word americano came from because they Americans fighting for this country and sacrificing their lives, couldn't handle the strength of the European coffee. Let that sink in. The fact you can own your own coffee shop, charge the prices you do, invite all people in that you do, is because of Americans who have died for that flag and who continue to die for the flag. They are the ones who give you that freedom. read more

This is my favorite coffee shop in all of the PNW. It is locally owned by a super rad lady who really cares about her staff and the local community. Thatchers' layout and interior design is modern, warm, and well thought out. I LOVE the percolator pendant lighting, community table, & giant chalkboard art that changes regularly. The baked goods are INSANELY delicious. My fav is the shortbread cookie. They offer different roaster's coffees including Onyx, Roseline, & Proud Mary. The tea blends are also impressive. They have great merch, too, oh and THE BEST greeting cards. I always pick something up when I'm there for upcoming birthdays or special occasions. read more

Throughout my first year of teaching, I have learned numerous things: 1) My classroom has a sneaky black-hole that nonchalantly sucks up and holds homework hostage. 2) Blue Vis-à-vis pens are evil and I will never be capable of using one without looking like I went all Lady Macbeth on a Smurf. 3) When a Jolly Rancher is on the line, even the shyest of shy student becomes competitive and is willing to answer questions about decimals, prepositional phrases, erosion, etc. 4) Outside of school, when asked the question "Do you have children?" it's not good to reply "Yes, 25 of them!" 5) By Friday afternoon it's okay to say goodbye to the quiet, straight line and let the class dance out to the dismissal line singing the radio version of "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz. (Don't judge...sometimes you just "gotta leeet go!") Perhaps the most important thing I have learned however, is that now more than ever caffeine truly does make me a better person. With lesson planning, grading, teaching and attempting to balance a social life in between, my dependency for caffeine has increased immensely, so I have had to find notable locations to get my fix! Thatcher's Coffee has no doubt become one of my safe havens in the Couve. This place means serious business when it comes to coffee, which is noted by the funky coffee theme you discover upon entering this shop. From old coffee cans being used as holders and decorations to chairs that are upholstered in burlap coffee sacks, there is truly a lot of coffee accents going on which helps tide you over until caffeine truly kicks in. As far as drinks go, Thatcher's serve up Ristretto coffee, Tea and a variety of Smoothies. I have tried a handful of their teas and some of the coffee options and to date my personal favorite is the Honey-Vanilla Latte. Yum! In addition to beverages, they also have a combination of Nuvrei and home-baked goods to satisfy your sweet tooth. Overall the people working seem nice, they are not overly chatty but are friendly nonetheless. The space is open yet cozy and there is seating galore. I usually bring papers to grade when I stop by and every time the place seems lively, which helps create a similar "atmosphere" to what I am use to. While it is a cozy spot on those dark and dreary rainy days, I appreciate that one of the walls is like a garage door and opens up to let in the fresh air on the rare occasion that we have decent weather. Something that is pretty nifty about Thatchers is the fact that they are a very community driven business. In addition to using local products, you can tell they also value and promote local activities. They actually have a ginormous chalkboard wall that is a calendar full of local events in Vancouver and surrounding areas like Ridgefield and Camas. I can't help but wish I had a calendar that big and obvious to keep everything in my life nice and organized! Hmm, I suppose that leads me to one more discovery about teaching, steeling ideas is the best way to survive! ...Guess who will be making a huge calendar in the near future?!? read more

Stopped by here for some iced drinks after a great late lunch at Lapellah (next door). I love the open and airy setup. They have a great patio section so you can enjoy the sun. They have an awesome baked goods offering. The coffee I had was very well made--an iced mocha that was not too sweet with a perfect blend of coffee and chocolate. The barista was never nice. My friend had an iced latte and Ms. K. had an iced honey vanilla latte. They both like their drinks as well. Definitely worthwhile to stop here--particularly if you're interested in a lazy afternoon in the sunshine (maybe bring a book?). read more

One of the better coffee shops in the Portland/Vancouver area. Everything is an a plus. The Decour is amazing the coffee is rich in flavor and there's plenty of seating. They unfortunately were out of to-stay cups, which was a bummer, and it took them a REALLY long time to make my coffee when it wasn't a full house, but regardless, I enjoyed everything. I love this coffee shop that's conveniently located in a small shopping/restaurant area. The inside decor/theme is modern and comfortable at the same time. On nice days one wall has a garage door that they open up to the outside seating area, making it dog friendly (outside) as well. One wall has a chalk board mural that they change out with local artists, this time it had beautiful succulents and a motivational quote. I ordered an almond milk latte with SF vanilla syrup. The flavor was all there, and the milk was steamed to perfection, not to mention the perfect temperature as well! You know, sometimes we all just need that mid-day pick-me-up. In my case, I was at the halfway point on the day's I.T. job, and I really just needed something to kick my butt back into gear for the next three hours. Thatcher's was on the corner, so that's where I found myself. I've never been much for sickly-sweet coffees, so I tend to avoid the Mocha-Frappu-Caramel-double-pumped-whip-with-sprinkles-on-top type stuff. My drug of choice ranges from black drip through Americano's and stops right around "Latte" which is what I was in the mood for today. Let me make this clear and simple: the coffee here is FANTASTIC. It was incredibly smooth, and, yeah, they do the coffee art thing with the cutesy little flower-pour. Okay, I thought it was a nice touch. But the proof is in the pudd--er---latte and this one was right up there with one of the smoothest I've had. Zero bitter notes in the coffee, and the frothed milk was just perfectly creamy. Excellent latte, and one I'll return again for on the occasion I'm back up in the neighborhood. read more
