Sometimes you pass a restaurant for years and never stop in. Then, when you finally do, you wonder what took you so long. That was the case for us at That's Amore last night. My wife, stepson, and I, had a great Italian dinner here! This is a BYOB so we brought a nice bottle of red and started off the dinner with the Eggplant Rollatini appetizer. The eggplant was cooked just right with a nice red sauce. Our entrees ranged from my Spaghetti with shrimp and Broccoli Rabe, to Rigatoni Bolognese, to Veal Milanese. Everything was excellent and we even ordered dessert...the homemade Tiramisu was outstanding! This is a family owned restaurant with the owner being a chef from Sicily. His wife greeted customers and gave us background on the restaurant. People have referred to this restaurant on Yelp as being cozy, and they're spot on. Lovely local family-run Italian restaurant in Denville. I ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese, which was decent albeit very standard - nothing really of note. $25 seemed slightly on the high side for this. I also got a side of meatballs for $10, which came with 3 large meatballs in tomato sauce. Again, I would describe the quality as decent. The best part of this restaurant is the nice cozy atmosphere. It sort of feels like you're having home-cooked Italian food in Italy (and not an NJ suburb). The staff are very friendly and attentive and the service speed is fast. There is also a convenient parking lot next to the restaurant. Overall, while the food itself is fairly standard, I enjoyed the casual family vibes of this place, so it gets 4 stars from me. read more

They have a great selection of seafood and seafood pasta dishes. My daughter ordered flounder franchise, i ordered stuffed flounder and my friend ordered chicken piccata. My dish was excellent. Came here tonight to celebrate my wife's birthday with my MIL and it was really unexpectedly great. Food: from front to back it was amazing. The bread is made by the chef and tastes just right, the antipasto was filled with unexpected things (in a good way), i had the shrimp fra diavolo which was the perfect blend of shrimp, pasta, and spicy. I have always passed by That's Amore Trattoria in between errands but have never walked in until this past weekend. I regret not going in sooner and enjoying the food. It feels like you are transported to Italy and are enjoying a delicious, home cooked meal. It was a cute atmosphere with Italian decor. The service was impeccable and the owner and chef came out to check in on us and talk. We ordered the rice balls with the bolognese sauce and calamari as starters. They were both full of flavor and delicious! My party and I ordered different entrees such as penne vodka, a classic cheese pizza, lemon flounder, and a salmon shrimp special with a flat rigatoni. All of them were filled with flavor and didn't feel heavy or salty. The portions were appropriate and we finished the food. The dessert was also top notched. The chef just made the chocolate mousse cake a few moments before we arrived and we knew we had to get it. It did not disappoint. Disregard the douchey boo-hoo reviews I see on here. This place is hands down one of the best Italian restaurants in this entire area of NJ. The food is top tier, and I would put their chef up against Mario Batali any day of the week. (And I've eaten at several of his restaurants.) It was one of the lazy evenings where I did not feel like cooking and did some take out from That's Amore. While I will say take out was tasty, the meal would have been better if I sat down in the restaurant and enjoyed the nice ambiance and friendly service. Picked up near the dinner time rush and restaurant was busy. Those who were coming in, all had reservations. Would definitely try making reservations for larger groups to ensure you get a table. One thing I do appreciate in restaurants is the B.Y.O.B. option. Always a nice option to bring your own favorite bottle and not get stuck with a glass of wine that you may not enjoy. With that, this was just from my initial observations Started with Calamari. While normally not a takeout item, I am super close so took a gamble. Calamari was still tasty when i ot home. Also ordered Chicken parm dinner which was served with salad or pasta. I opted for pasta. Dinner itself was also tasty and made for an overall great meal. While the food was great, I was somewhat disappointed in the overall portion size to what I paid for the meal. I should note no prices are displayed on the menu whixh is always a clue the meal may be procey Chicken Parm is always a great dinner and usually I am stuffed with a snack afterwards. Wifey and I have wanted to try That's Amore for years...since they opened...but for some reason we never did-until last night. It was just the two of us on a hot date and luckily we were hungry and arrived early. Greeted at the door by the very friendly owner we were seated immediately. As we looked over the menu our waitress opened our bottle of wine (it's BYOB) and poured for us. We had read up on what was great here so we had to start with the bruschetta and it was the greatest bruschetta I've EVER eaten. Wow, I'd come back just for this. They also give you bread with some seasoned olive oil so this was a high carb, high gluten night. For our meal we ordered a side of meatballs (heard great things) and they were VERY good - made with a three meat combo of beef, veal, and pork). Really tasty and they also make a very good sauce. Wifey ordered the shrimp parmesan with a side of pasta. When I saw they had veal saltimbocca I asked if they'd make it with chicken and they obliged (also with a side of pasta). Very nice portion size that allowed us to take home lunch for the next day. Both our meals were tasty, well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Since we took home leftovers we had room for dessert so we split Lemoncello cake...and it was WOW. Light with lots of big flavor. We really loved this place. Nice simple traditional Italian menu options, very cute decor, service was excellent and the prices are reasonable. Get here early because the place fills up quick. Dress is relaxed casual-jeans and a collared shirt...there were even people in jeans and sweatshirts, but other dressed kind of nice. 3 1/2 stars - Had a 5:45 pm reservation for a table of 4 and got there with only 3 tables seated. We were told they could not seat us until the rest of our party showed up because there was only 1 waiter - wait, what??? So they think it's better to have us stand in a vestibule waiting for the others in our party instead of seating us and letting us enjoy our wine and peruse the menu? I told them we were in no rush & I had an opener & could open my own wine. Sorry, that's their policy. So, of course I muttered quite loudly under my breath while standing in the vestibule trying to figure out another place to go & then they decided to seat us. Service was fine with 1 waiter but they did kind of rush bringing salads while apps were being enjoyed which at that point I told the waiter to "slow down". Food was good, interior very dated. So many Italian restaurants, so little time. Ah, but this one's well worth your time. Cozy, family owned, BYOB, private parking lot, and more importantly, serving delicious food! Almost sounds too good to be true... but it ain't. So what's good here? Literally everything. If you want to be impressed though, you have to order the bruschetta. Possibly the best bruschetta I've ever had. So incredibly fresh and well seasoned with the perfect hints of garlic and basil. Could've easily polished off a whole plate by myself - yes, it's that good! Nothing fell short of our expectations. The spicy rigatoni vodka was indeed spicy, creamy, savory and al dente. The stuffed bass was flavorful and cooked perfectly in its white wine, garlic sauce. The limencello cake was a slice of light, lemony heaven, perfectly sweet and tart. And the cannoli... well it was a cannoli. But a damn good, fresh cannoli. The attention to detail in their food and service is easily noticeable. Our "Friday Lunch Crew" ( 6 of us today) kicked off the season with a visit to That's Amore Trattoria located at 366 E. Main St. in Denville, NJ. On arrival there was plenty of off street parking in their lot, which appeared to accommodate about a dozen cars. We were graciously welcomed by the very friendly owner, Peter, where we were placed in a nice, large round table which comfortably accommodated our group. The restaurant was clean, cozy and comfortable and our table was neatly set up prior to our arrival. We arrived at 1 PM and the restaurant was relatively empty, which was nice, and the owner told us that he primarily caters to a dinner crowd and lunchtimes were usual available without a concern. I have to say Peter, the owner, made us feel very much at home and could not have been more cordial. After a few appetizers (two house pizza pies, pulpo and Arancine Sicilia style Riceballs) most of us had the Linguine Pescatore (Clams, mussels, bay scallops, calamari and shrimp in garlic oil and plum tomato fresh basic sauce), the others had a variation with pulpo. The pasta was cooked just right (al dente) and the assorted fish was fresh and flavorful. Nice sized portion. We finished with some Cappuccino's, Espresso's and Limoncello Cake. That's Amore is also a BYOB, which is something we look for and we were able to enjoy some nice vino and Limoncello with our great meal. Everyone agreed that their meals were delicious, the service was outstanding and the ambiance was perfect for our luncheon get together. Solid restaurant been there 3 times now each time has been really good. My favorite was when I had sweet potato and beet ravioli, I would love to have that again. I was least excited about the one time I had pork but I am not a huge pork eater and was simply trying to beach out. The staff is super sweet big family feel. My wife and I were in the Denville area and saw this Italian restaurant with decent reviews. It had a definite family atmosphere. We were greeted by the owner's mother and didn't have to wait long to be served. We were given bread and it felt like it just came out of the oven. There was nothing spectacular about it. We ordered a Caesar salad, which was loaded with dressing. The chef came out and offered a new one and did not charge us for it. My wife ordered the Rigatoni Alla Vodka and I ordered the cavatelli and broccoli with shrimp. My portion wasn't large but it was tasty. My wife liked her dish as well. We arrived around 4:30 on a late Saturday afternoon after an opera. We were greeted by the owner, our waiter and the owner's mom(?). Everybody was quite nice and we were the only people in there. The place filled up within an hour so like another review here suggests get there prior to 6 as there seem to be quite a few regulars . Plenty of front and behind the restaurant free parking. We began with the waiter recommended veal meatballs in mushroom sauce and for our entrees, we both decided on pasta dishes; my wife has the lobster ravioli and I the rigatoni bolognese. Both sauces and pastas were cooked nicely and served hot. The meatball appetizer was a slightly dry. The bread was a little skimpy in portions and wasn't as tasty as I would have expected, but hey it's only bread. The oil and pepper mixture to dress your bread was not olive oil but seemed like a light olive oil or vegetable oil. My only complaint. Nice interior and is meticulously maintained and clean. Overall a lovely evening after an Italian opera. We will be returning. read more

Amazing! It was like eating at your friend's Italian grandmother's house. For an appetizer we ordered the rice balls. From the moment we tasted the rice ball we knew the restaurant was going to be authentic Italian food. The peas were cooked to perfection, the meat was seasoned to perfection and the rice was the perfect consistency. The grilled chicken with fresh mozzarella and red peppers in the balsamic glaze was delicious. I ordered it with the house salad and a side of broccoli rabe. The broccoli rabe was cooked and seasoned nicely with the garlic. The shrimp Alfredo was delicious. They even went the extra mile and took the tails off the shrimp.
