We made a reservation for a group of 6 on a Saturday night. We were seated right away and the place was empty but quickly filled up as the night went on. For appetizers we ordered the bacon wrapped scallops special, seafood salad and calamari with sweet marinara. Apps were delicious however the mains were disappointing. I ordered the mahi mahi special but the fish smelled really fishy and was slimy. I've had mahi mahi over a dozen times in my life and I really think this was cod. I ate some of the pesto & called it a day. The zuppa de pesce with pasta was ordered for the kids. The mussels and clams were not good - they smelled at least a day or two old. Kids spit them right out and I smelled them - didnt smell right. Osso buco, salmon francaise and sunday gravy pasta with meatballs were good. They only had 2 guys working the floor and the host station. It took a while to flag a server down to get them. Tried a new place but probably wont be coming back. read more

My wife and I had dinner at Verde on a Saturday night. It was the first time we'd been here in over 10 years. This is a small restaurant on Rt 53 in Morris Plains. It has the feel of a real local place. The food here was fine. We split a salad and had entrees of Veal Sorrentino and Shrimp Fra Diavolo. For dessert, we split a Tiramisu and had cappuccinos. While this may not be our favorite Italian restaurant, we had no complaints. The food was good, especially the dessert. If you're coming here on a Saturday night, I'd suggest making a reservation as it was crowded when we left. Also, bring a bottle of wine since it's a BYOB. read more

This was my second time ordering take out from Verde. I was unhappy with my first experience so wanted to try again. The first time i ordered Chicken Marsala and when i open the container at home it was filled 3/4 full of marsala sauce. It totally destroyed the veggies and mashed potatoes. The 2nd time i tried chicken parm. This was better but still not great. I have had better chicken Parm from Tabor Pizza. Verde was delicious! I ordered some takeout for my husband's birthday and was super pleased with everything. It's a bit pricey, so I don't think I'd order takeout from here ordinarly, but for a special occasion it definitely fit the bill. We started out with cesar salad which came with a generous portion, and lots of shaved fresh parm which is always what I want and need on my cesar. Our order also came with a loaf of fresh Italian bread. For mains we shared chicken parm and the pesto pasta with crabmeat and shrimp. The chicken parm came with two very large pieces. The red sauce was tasty but I do wish there was more cheese on the parm. The pesto pasta was incredibly rich and saucy. There was a generous amount of both crabmeat and shrimp, and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. Because it's a bit pricey I'd probably opt to dine in for future visits. These dishes (especially the pesto pasta) didn't travel as well as I would've hoped. Something so creamy and decadent should be enjoyed fresh and hot! But I was floored nonetheless how breathlessly discrete it was and with a good number of civilized diners. The lilt of Sinatra in the background was a lovely grace note. Furniture and sound, Savvy? How was the chow?! Penne with vodka sauce - and I asked if I could get the sausage crumbled or cut and the server leapt at the opportunity to provide exactly what my heart's stomach desired. It was a feast for the senses. A mundane choice was made with flare. The cook went out of his way to crumble the sausage and I appreciated that gesture alone greatly. No yelling from the kitchen of "who crumbles sausage?! Is this guy special?!?" That's because I get the verde real sense every customer Is special to them. Genuinely. And cannoli the size of a sugar canoe swaddled in the dove soft clouds of frosting and foam!! A Capachino that you nearly wanted to eat it looked so delectable. Restaurant was highly recommended by friends of ours who we gathered with for dinner. Reservations a must if coming here. The place is not very big in space but they make up for it with the quality of their dishes. The menu is simple and offers a variety of meals that are pleasing to the palate. Place is BYOB and the staff will provide an ice bucket on a pedestal for any wines or beers you may want to keep cold. We were six for dinner and appetizers were ordered to share. Panko crusted meatballs and fried calamari. The apps were delicious as well as our meals. Dinners consisted of a chicken ala verde, two Branzino francaise and Chilean sea bass with a mango chutney drizzle. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we even made room for dessert. read more

The meatballs I would not recommend as they were not good and too salty. I had the short ribs which were decent. Overall I thought the place was ok. I had been looking for some good gnocchi and Yelp lead me here! We arrived right when they opened and were greeted by an amazing waiter. To start off I ordered the seafood salad and my friend the Cesar salad. I usually LOVE Italian seafood salad because the mix of citrus and oil blends perfectly with the onions and tomatoes, but this one was super bland and no matter how much salt and pepper I poured it lacked flavor. Things did make a turn for the best during my entrée. I have been visiting Italian restaurants in search of some amazing gnocchi I had while on vacation and I found it here. The Gnocchi was served in a red meat sauce with a little cream. It was the perfect!. My friends chicken francese was not on the other hand. It was very eggy and smelled weird. For dessert it took another turn for greatness with an amazing Tiramisu (I usually hate this dessert), but theirs was amazing and not super strong like the ones I had before and the Cannoli was also good. To go I ordered the chicken parm for my boyfriend and the red sauce was also really good. They offer free parking, and the staff was amazing. One thing that did throw we off was their woman's restroom. They should really look into upgrading because it was kind of nasty. I would definitely go back for the entrée and dessert. read more

Please stay away! I was given a Groupon for Christmas and felt obligated to use it. I should have let the Groupon expire as even with the $25 off of a $175 bill I wasted $150 on absolutely the worst Italian food ever. My party of 3 all had subpar meals. My husband returned the Italian egg drop soup as the smell and taste was that of seafood! Burrata salad was store bought and lacked any flavor. Clams oreganata overwhelming fish odor and chewy. Shrimp scampi entree had the same sauce as the clams appy just awful. I think the high ratings r due to the Groupon's and honestly people not knowing a good Italian meal. read more

Our group visited this restaurant on Sat., Apr. 13, 2024. The restaurant was busy, but not overly packed. We had a reservation, but when we arrived, the table was not ready. After a wait, we were seated. It took some time for the waiter to acknowledge us. When he did come over, he opened our bottles of wine and rattled off the appetizers and specials for the evening. He gave us about one to two seconds and then asked us if we were ready to order. To which we said, please give us a little bit of time. Unfortunately, that was the last we would see of our waiter for the next 30 to 40 minutes. We continued to talk amongst ourselves and honestly lost track of time. We did have to ask multiple times for our drinks as the busboy was constantly running from table to table. We had to ask the waiter and the busboy three times for ice until we finally got it 30 minutes later. A person in our party finally said, "has anybody seen the waiter?" We all realized it had been quite a bit of time. Trying to flag him down then became an impossible feat, as he was hiding in the kitchen. Looking around the dining room it was evident that there was only one waiter and one busboy for the entire room. Patrons at other tables were visibly annoyed with the fact that no food was being served and their checks were nowhere to be found after multiple requests. We noticed another party had arrived quite sometime after we got to the restaurant. They received their salad before we were served any food. When we finally did get the busboy attention, he acknowledged us with barely a glance and gave us some more water. After multiple complaints, we were finally able to put our orders in and wound up waiting an hour and a half and still no food was served. To placate us, the waiter finally got out a semi-cold plate of calamari. The dish was chewy and barely warm. Visibly angry, one of our friends had had enough. He stood up and went over to the kitchen and told the waiter that we would be leaving and the dish of badly cooked squid was on them. Dined here last night with six other family members. From start to finish a great experience. I made a reservation on the open table app for 6PM. It wasn't overly busy when we arrived . It's a smaller, cozy restaurant with a casual atmosphere. The bread on the table was the best bread I've ever had at a restaurant. That's usually a good gauge on how the food will be. No one was disappointed with their meal. The service was great. See the pictures below of our meals. The portions are big. The food was served steaming hot. My girlfriend and I ordered take out from here on Sunday, 4/26. With no other Italian cuisine options open around our area at the time, we stumbled upon Verde Ristorante and it's favorable reviews. We knew we should give this place a shot and we were beyond satisfied after finishing both of our meals! Pros: Given the times, we ordered delivery through either DoorDash or Grub Hub (sorry I can't remember!) and the food got from the restaurant to our home in Rockaway in just around 45 minutes. Not bad at all! I ordered the Penne Alla Vodka - fresh peas, Parmesan, tomato, vodka cream. Honestly, one of the best Penne vodka dishes I have ever had and that is not an exaggeration. It's made just the way I prefer; not too creamy, but a lighter sauce. I also love it when places include the peas and small pieces of ham into the dish, which this restaurant does. Plenty of food as well, left me with enough for a second meal the following day! My girlfriend ordered the Chicken Rollatini. She loved it and so did I! Prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, mushrooms, in a Marsala wine sauce. The combination of all the ingredients in the chicken was delicious. The chicken itself was also cooked to perfection! When our food showed up, it was still hot. No need to reheat, which was something I was originally worried about having to do. Excellent job! Cons: I hate to make this a con, but I was not a big fan of the Clam Oreganata. Stuffed with fresh herbs, bread crumbs, in a white wine and garlic sauce. It's not that I'd call it bad, but for me it was missing a bit of flavor. From the ingredients it would sound like plenty of flavors, but it really didn't taste all that flavorful to me. I want to reiterate, I don't want to call it BAD, it was just missing something for me. I ended up only having one, while my girlfriend ate the rest. NO BREAD!!!! I'm not sure if bread is something we specifically need to ask for, but that was a let down! It would have been a bonus if we were able to dip some bread in that amazing vodka sauce or the Marsala wine sauce. If we order take out again, I'll be sure to mention we'd like some bread on the side! In closing, if you take notice at my previous statement it says "if we order take out again". The reason it says IF is because my girlfriend and I hope our next experience with Verde Ristorante will be us eating at the restaurant itself because theirs no doubt they just gained two customers! Cozy Place It's been a while since we ate at Verde Ristorante but had some good memories so we decided to give it a try again. The parking lot is small, so they have valet parking, and the restaurant itself is small yet seats about 75 people comfortably. The restaurant is somewhat noisy when crowded but the sound absorbing panels along the walls help dampen it. The restaurant is BYOB. A long time ago I told my wife these are the places we want to go to because, in addition to not overpaying for a bottle of wine, they must serve good food to survive. Verde happily opens your bottle and provides glasses. I have to also say the service was impeccable. We were served promptly and professionally and never had difficulty getting help from anyone with anything during our meal. We began by splitting the eggplant rollatini appetizer which was crisp and covered with a really tasty marinara and cheese sauce. For entrees, my wife had the Chicken Verde, a large breast stuffed with roast red peppers, sun dried tomatoes, prosciutto, spinach and mozzarella cheese in a brandy cream red sauce containing shrimp. She could not finish it but also could not stop talking about how good it was. I had a porkchop special, which was large and tender, stuffed with swiss cheese, spinach and a few other things and topped with an abundance of mushrooms and a mild but tasty brown sauce. It was excellent. I encourage you to try Verde if you have not. Sure there are fancier places but Verde is a friendly, cozy spot that I'm sure you will head back to many more times as will we. read more

He was personable, receptive to my needs and responsive to any questions during the planning process. On the day of the event everything went seamless from delivery, set-up and my guests all complimented how great Italian dishes were and asked who catered! Even our DJ and his entertainment team who travels to venue's across NJ commented this was some of the best penne vodka, gravy, meatballs, Rigatoni they have had and knew it could not come from the hotel. We also go to the restaurant with a bottle of wine on the weekends occasionally and have always had great service, fantastic seafood specials and the verde salad is always a must! Dined here on 4/20. We were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. We figured the food was going to be good as soon as we got the bread. It was warm and crusty. The chicken croquettes app special was excellent in a very flavorful sauce. My seafood pasta special was awesome with a tender lobster tail on top. Chicken verde, although the meat itself was lacking in seasoning, came with a tasty sauce. Service was attentive and on point. My wife and her friends absolutely LOVE this place so I wasn't surprised that the food was good, but it exceeded my expectations. My wife got a salmon dish (shocking...I could have predicted that the day before) and I got a seafood pasta dish. Portions weren't overwhelming in size (this is the kind of place where you kind of want to just eat your meal and not worry about a doggie bag), but were large enough to fill you up. The place is pretty small and once it gets crowded they require you to valet your car, but the food was worth being in tight quarters. I see why my wife and her friends hit this place up regualrly for 'girls night out.' I will definitley go back...it's too good to stay away. read more

Attentive but not intrusive, good recommendation and fast service. - complimentary bread was warm and came with two pieces of bruschetta. - tortellini with carbonara sauce and penne with vodka sauce were great!
