Had higher expectations, but it was a solid 3/5. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, which a very thin piece of chicken, the spicy bbq was overpowering. Wish they did a standard crispy chicken sandwich with a thicker cut of the thigh, rather than pounding out the breast to be mostly breading. The side garden salad was very fresh and crisp. The service and drinks were decent, could be improved but not bad. It was kind of pricey for a cocktail - $18 for a Tito's vodka lemon drop. (They up charged for top shelf). We finally got around to the 18Hundred restaurant in downtown Bakersfield. It was a Saturday afternoon and we got in just before the lunch rush. As soon as we arrived, the hostess seated us and the server promptly brought our drinks. We split the BLTA Sandwich with fries. The sandwich was tasty and filling. The ingredients were fresh and in ample supply. They have a full bar, which I did not take advantage of, but it's good to know it's there. The place was filling up, but the noise level was not bad. There is outside seating. That might be fun at cooler times of the year or in the evenings. The building is very old, a bank, I think, so it has a really cool vibe. We went at lunch time on a Friday and were seated quickly. Our server was so great, very pleasant and helpful with the menu. The food was very satisfactory, in a very calm, fun and inviting environment. We all had full meals and shared one of their amazing shakes and our bill was only $54! If you haven't been there lately, go!! They just lowered their prices and it was beyond a great deal. We went to a different establishment the week prior and it was a somewhat chaotic environment and we paid 2 times what we did today and not as impressed with the food. We were greeted and seated as soon as we entered by Sharlene who was our server as well she was very attentive and friendly. It seemed It took us longer to select our choices than it did for the kitchen to prepare and Sharlene to serve us. The menu has many selections they all sounded delicious. The interior of the 1800 is classic used brick walls,comfortably decorated. bar has 3 large screens for sports viewing. Went in for brunch last weekend, the pricing seems fine, but it seems this restaurant just has many issues that need to be fixed. First, upon being seated, our drink orders were not taken. Then we ordered drinks, but coffee is mot served from a carafe, instead from a stainless steel pitcher. This yields cold coffee so quickly. Then the coffee tastes worse than a gas/service station. You better ask for creamer and sugar because you will need it to fix up this bad tasting brew. Then our party orders. The food is subpar and the turkey sausage seems microwaved. So dry! The sunny side eggs are overcooked on the bottom and undercooked on the top. Hard to cut, needed a knife. Then there's no salt and pepper on the tables! Come on, don't serve anyone eggs without that?! Then the restrooms, both down and upstairs are really dirty, and the doors are dirty, and the doorways around the eye level where people touch, are dirty. The sides of the tables are dirty. I literally watched people push crumbs to the floor! Makes you wonder what's going on in the back of the house, where you can't see. Yuck! read more

Summary, Food: excellent SERVICE, terrible Went in with a party of four and while multiple employees would look at us as we stood there waiting it took quite some time for someone to even acknowledge us let alone to begin the process of getting a seated, even though there were multiple tables that were open and multiple employees that were working the floor. When the time came to order drinks, four of us all ordered drinks, but my drink never showed up, I had to flag down out a waiter to get my drink to come We ordered our food and our food came out, and it was very delicious and plated beautifully. It took quite some time for it to come to the table, but that's to be expected when you have quality food. After we were all done eating and sitting at the table, the plates remained on the table for a very, very, very long time in fact- one of the employees approached my wife who had an extra glass of wine that was sitting on the table and she asked if she was done with that cup, but when she took the cup, she didn't attempt to take the five stacked plates on one side and the two stacked plates on the other side. Then it came time for dessert. OK my wife ordered one of their fudge brownies all and I ordered a milkshake. Keep in mind there's four of us at the table. When the waiter places our order for the desserts, she doesn't clear the table of the plates they're still there, and when the dessert arrives, we have to ask the person to clear the plates because they just set the dessert down on the table with *3 plates* leaving one of us to not share the dessert, OK and then guess what my milkshake never showed up. Eventually, the waitress comes back with our check no milkshake, but the milkshake was on the bill. I was polite and when she said oh, you didn't get your milkshake. I'll go get that. I said don't even worry about it. I was ready to leave and not come back. It could've been an off day, but I suspect that this is the baseline of their service now it's not a Michelin star restaurant or anything sure but basic super basic service principles were not employed by this establishment and I will not be going back. read more

I first dined at 18hundred when it opened in town and loved it! I was new, hip, great decor and a great location downtown. After a few years I came back this past weekend. The decor is still wonderful and the staff super friendly and kind. Recap on the food: The burger was good, a little heavy but tasty. Not gonna lie I didn't feel well after but not sure if it was the burger. ‍ The fried zucchini were underwhelming, I wish they had a little more flavor and fried a little longer to have more a of a crisp. He sat us with only one menu which was fine if that was the only issue because we just got up and grabbed an extra one off a table for my husband. It took a long time for the server to take our order when there were only 5 other tables. The server never brought out our drinks so I had to ask another girl to get our drinks after we got our food. Then when we did get our food my ultimate grilled cheese had jalapeños instead of avocado as the menu says. I normally wouldn't complain because I work at a restaurant and get mistakes happen but they were SPICY. Tried The 18hundred for the first time and it was great. The place is cozy and very cute in the inside. The chairs are on the smaller side so not too comfy if you've got a caboose- (and I have one!!) The menu is not extensive and it offers what I would call "staples" with a foodie twist. They offer standard breakfast items, hamburgers, sandwiches, pasta dishes, and a few steak and fish entrees. From my perspective, the bar gives the place a vibe and ambiance! They offer a full bar with curated season cocktails that looked delicious. The service was friendly and professional. We showed up to eat around 8:15 pm and the restaurant closes at 9 pm and they had no issue seating and feeding us!! It was refreshing to not have attitude served with our meal! We ordered the fried cauliflower with lemon butter and slivered almonds, chicken fingers and fries, the Bako burger and we added bleu cheese crumbles, and the pear spritzer. Everything was delicious! The cauliflower was my favorite thing. It was perfectly seasoned, tender and firm, and dressed in the lemon butter. The burger was a hit! It had two hamburger patties, crispy thick cut bacon, avocado, and the bleu cheese crumbles on a buttery toasted brioche bun and served with a nice salad lightly dressed in a house made vinaigrette. The chicken strips were southern style fried in a crispy corn meal crust and served with fries. Then fries were crispy, perfectly seasoned, and not oily. We also ordered a pear spritzer and it was so delicious!! It was beautifully served in a stemless champagne flute with a flower in the drink. And, it was very refreshing. The restaurant has specialty milkshakes that would make Farrell's and Dairy Queen rethink their menus. We didn't get to try one but we definitely will next time. The 18Hundred has been on my list for a while, I've been wanting to try it out and I finally got an opportunity. My wife and I had dinner here a few nights ago and it was a great experience. Our server was very polite and attentive, took care of our drinks and order right away. The chicken parm was really good. It was very well cooked and the cheese was baked on top like they layered it and put it in the over, perfection. My wife had a veggie burger and said it was very good, fries were also fresh and crispy. We did and order of the lemon cauliflower bites and that's the only thing I wouldn't recommended. They were slightly overcooked and the lemon was just overwhelming. It was really tart and just overloaded the palate, we didn't really enjoy them. The birthday cake shake at the end of the night was great though, overall it was a really good experience and we'll definitely be back, we'll just steer clear of the cauliflower. read more

The section we sat in was a bit confined and they may want to consider removing the two person little table next to the register. Plus, that table was very wobbly. The food was very good. My crispy chicken sandwich was very good and not heavy. The spicy BBQ sauce was a different take, but I enjoyed it. My friend got the black bean burger. My husband and I used to love coming here. Our usual were the grass fed burgers. They were a generous portion and so delicious, and it came with a salad, and I went specifically for their burgers, but unfortunately we went this time and I did notice their menu changed and it was $10 for a burger which was fine but they removed the salad which was also fine. We got our burgers and they clearly downsized. The burgers were smaller than what they used to be and I would always get the spicy Jack but the spicy sauce they put on was hardly any and the cheese was minimal. We ordered the strawberry salad so we could have a veggie and the salad was really good, and we ordered the fries which were delicious also, but they downsized the fries as well, but really I am very disappointed in they're downsizing of the burger and change to their recipe. It was not the same. I hope they return to what their burgers used to be. I'd pay the former price to get the old grass fed burger. The most annoying part is how hungry we were a couple hours later. We used to eat there around 11 or 12 and be full till dinner time close to 6pm. I want to add I'm not a large person. I'm 135 pounds 5' 5" female, and lean. So I don't require a lot of food. When we leave a restaurant hungry shortly after eating, we don't want to go back. It seems like quality is not what the priority is. It seems like cutting costs is. We are so sad to write this because we've gone here now for a couple of years and have always had a great experience. We went on St. Patrick's Day and both got a couple of St. Patrick's drinks as well as a couple of items from the social hour menu, including a chicken sandwich on sourdough mushroom, Swiss burger, and zucchini fries and a New York cheesecake for dessert by the end of the meal my stomach started having issues I went down to the restroom and had to use it several times and vomited out green. Keep in mind I only had half a drink, and my husband finished the rest of my drink and two other drinks the next day my husband was vomiting out green and had extreme stomach pain with diarrhea. This was our first time trying this place so we were a bit nervous. It does get busy so make sure to go with some extra time! Our server spoke Spanish which was great and refreshing! He asked us if we had been there before, and recommended us some items! My burger was meant to be spicy and it did have a kick to it, I loved it. As for the brunch burger my friend said it tastes just like a breakfast burger should, the egg was cooked to perfection. Since we were celebrating my birthday we got the birthday milkshake and it was sooooo good. The cake was so moist and Dense, three of us shared it and it was still a lot, enough for all of us to get pretty stuffed.
