I have one very important question... where has this place been hiding?! Because how am I just now discovering a pot roast this good? The kind that tastes like someone's grandma has been back there cooking all day with love and zero shortcuts. The pot roast was tender, flavorful, and absolutely melt-in-your-mouth. The green beans were perfectly seasoned, the mashed potatoes were rich and comforting, and yes... I treated myself to two onion rings and I regret absolutely nothing because they were worth every bite. This meal felt like comfort food done right -- hearty, homemade, and exactly what your soul needs after a long day. The portions were generous, the flavors were spot on, and now I'm honestly wondering how many times I've driven past this hidden gem without stopping. Safe to say I'll definitely be back... and next time I might need more than two onion rings.

The 401 is a causal restaurant with adequate parking and a spacious dining room. It's a popular restaurant for the area so reservations or early an arrival should be considered. My server was friendly and no long waits from the time of introductions to the arrival of food were experienced. My meal started with Tortilla Soup 4/5 followed by Parmesan-Crusted Rainbow Trout 5/5 served with Brussels Sprouts (3/5 too sweet for me) and pasta. The size of the dish would easily satisfy big appetites. I've dined here twice and both times very happy with the atmosphere and great food, looking forward to the next visit.

My coworkers are always hyping this place up, so I needed to visit to see what the hype was about. Y'all..I understand it now. Those brussel sprouts and poke nachos I ordered, were absolutely scrumptious. The decor was of course on point and very fitting for the ambiance and the waitress did a great job at making sure all needs were met. Will for sure be visiting again!

Roasted Brussels Sprouts - highly recommend!

I had the Bistro Chipotle Cheeseburger, and it was pretty good, but I was expecting a little more chipotle flavor. It could definitely use a bit more chipotle sauce to make it stand out. The real surprise was the Fire-Roasted Brussels Sprouts. They were amazing and easily one of the best appetizers I've had in a while. I highly recommend ordering them. The highlight of the meal, though, was the Poblano Chicken (aka the chicken fried chicken). It was outstanding and easily the best dish I tried. I'd recommend it over the burger without hesitation. In my opinion, it's even better than the chicken fried chicken at Mia's Table or Grace's. The only downside was the service. It was a bit slow, and our server wasn't very attentive, so there's definitely room for improvement there. Even with that, the food made the visit worthwhile, and I'd definitely come back, the restaurant was clean and has a nice layout.

I had a SUPER leisurely lunch here today with friends! My out of town friends suggested this local restaurant. Immediately seated. The server gave us ample time to order as we sat chatting for a bit, and we sat after lunch for a bit. This is a very pretty local restaurant - it is well populated by the locals, and people are also coming around from nearby towns. Our meals came out in about 10 minutes and the only think that was better than the food presentation was the taste! - nice portions too. No photos of the ice tea but it was also very good. We didn't try the appetizer this time. Normally we'll get the artichoke dip. There's an overflow parking lot a block away as the parking in front can fill up during peak time.

Upon opening the door, I was loving the interior of the restaurant. There was a bench surrounded by fake flowers for customers to take pretty pictures. The bar area was on the right. I had the fire-roasted Brussels sprouts, and Sun-Dried Tomato Lemon Pasta. The Brussels sprouts were crispy, but the sweet chili sauce didn't had any spiciness to it. The lemon pasta was flavorful. It was lemony, but not tart. There is a kids area with TV, tablets, and books for kids. Kids eat free on Mondays with purchase of an adult entree. There is ample parking in front of the restaurant. Reservation isn't necessary, but the influx of patrons during peak hours is high. I would go back to try other dishes.

Okay this place is cute and has a lot to offer both on the menu and in unique experiences. The interior is really cuteee. Also interesting note they have a child's play room. The menu is very diverse and has something for every pallete whether you're vegan, pescatarian or a carnivore. They also have an array of beverages to choose from both alcoholic and non alcoholic. Our waiter was great and very helpful with choosing apps and entry selections. We ordered the jalapeno hummus with pita bread and I found it to be pretty bland. For my main course I ordered the vegan Mediterranean bowl and I added salmon like other reviewers recommended! Umpt ya know I wasn't that impressed but it did taste fresh! Now would I try this place again yes! Because the service is good and I want to try their brunch!

So we came in for lunch on a Monday with a another family for a party of 4 adults and 6 kids. So The '401 has a Monday special where kids eat free with the purchase of an adult entree. You can definitely tell this place, while a great brunch and date spot, also caters to families. There is even a dedicated play room for the kids so that the adults can actually have some conversation. Fortunately, we were there early so our large party of kids didn't have to fight with other kids inside. I really liked the Sun-Dried Tomato Lemon Pasta and The Chicken '401. While we had a brand new server who made a few mistakes, we could tell he was really trying and he was very polite and courteous. The decor inside is trendy and clean and just adds to a very pleasant experience. I am sure we will be back, especially with the Monday special.

I really enjoy eating at The '401 Their menu includes everything from a variety of appetizers, salads, soups, burgers, chicken sandwiches, gyro, platters, pasta entrees, Parmesan chicken etc....sides and even pizzas. I have ordered many meals dining inside and on their covered patio as well as placing many to go pick up orders. What really stands out is the service! Especially by one of their fabulous staff, Heidy! Kudos to her for the professional warm friendly and prompt service I received this past weekend as well as tonight at dinner. I knew our experience tonight would also be top notch as it was last time. I appreciate her so much and will look for her the next time I dine in! Thank you Heidy!!

I tried this place because I was looking for something on the healthy side to eat and it didn't disappoint. The server was nice and helped me to choose my meal. I ordered to go and it took me about 15 mins to get my food. There was a little waiting area that was open to the restaurant which was nice. My meal was tasty and the portion size was large. I would definitely visit again.

Ask the Community - The '401

I got to this page from the '401 website to make a reservation, but I can't find a way to do it. 🤷‍♀️. Am I missing something?

I don't really remember it being a reservation based business as in its NEEDED. Unless you're doing a big party, or just want to be on the safe side, I would suggest you call if you're having any issues.

Any gluten free options that are also egg, nut, and avocado free? Can anything be made without alliums?

I believe they have gluten-free options however, I highly suggest calling the restaurant to get a very direct answer

    Do they take Apple Pay?

Yes, we can take Apple Pay!

Do y'all have outdoor seating thats heated?

Definitely since it is 90s in the summer

    Is patio Dog friendly?

Yes! We have a section of the patio where we allow dogs 😀

    Do they play music?

Hi! We don't currently have live music but we do play a variety of enjoyable music through the speakers throughout our restaurant. We'd love to have you join us sometime to check it out!

    Sports on the TVs?

Yes and I'm sure you can ask them to turn on what you want to watch.

Do they have a kids menu?

Yes we do! We currently have chicken tenders with fries, grilled chicken with broccoli, kids quesadillas, hamburger, grilled cheese, penne pasta with meatballs, and chicken Alfredo. All kids meals include a small drink and a cookie.

Seems like the most effective way to earn rewards is to order ahead through the app as they do not offer an option to upload a receipt. Hopefully this gets updated in the future.. As a side note, It would also be nice if they offered 1 day old bagels at a substantial discount in an effort to reduce waste. Overall I would encourage people to checkout the Einstein Brow. The Texas Brisket Egg Sandwich on Jalapeño bun came out piping hot, and all the flavors and textures were on point. It is a bit pricey ($9) but worth it if you're willing to cough up some cash for fast food / fast casual breakfast. I did a mobile order so there was limited interaction with staff so I can't comment too much on the service. Definitely nothing negative to describe. The restaurant itself is fairly spacious, clean, a good amount of seating, with clean restrooms. The only downside for this location is the tight parking. You will often show up with no spots open, so you may need to sit around for a few minutes until one opens up. Just circle the lot a few times and look for people walking to their cars. Just don't exit the actual parking lot onto Chimney Rock or San Felipe because you need to do all these crazy u-turns to get back into the lot. Enjoy!

Similarly to their more popular location in Memorial (#2), this outside of this Bellaire spot doesn't immediately tell the full story. The interior has an industrial vibe, with the high ceilings and overhead fixtures, but as converted into a solid dining space. The large tilted mirrors in the main area are reminiscent of the now defunct Helen's (#3) and makes for a fun (or perhaps distracting) visual. The spacious layout allows breathing room for all kinds of groups. Service has been good overall, and prompt throughout every visit. The American bistro inspired menu has a decent amount of variety that spans from brunch to a tasty weeknight dinner and a drink. Their starters have a variety of tasty bites that include the white truffle eggs, wicked wings, prosciutto-melon burrata, Mama Pauley's meatballs, and a very addicting chipotle pimento cheese dip. While I appreciate the vegan-friendly hippie chickpea croquettes, it needed just a bit more seasoning. Their bacon double cheeseburger has been deemed "insta-famous" and it certainly didn't disappoint. It's juicy, a little messy, but a lot delicious. It paired well with their large cut fries (consider upgrading to the truffle fries), but the house made chips are also a good light bite. Their salads are equally fabulous from their classic caesar to a hearty cobb salad. I wasn't as impressed with the crunchy Asian salad, but thought their faro salad was a thumbs up. Understandably, the priciest meals are some of their grilled and house specialty meals, such as a prime tenderloin filet ($42), Mediterranean roasted redfish ($36), twelve hour ribs ($29), and rosemary-lemon chicken ($29), all of which are solid. I feel the buttermilk chicken tender platter ($19) is really meant for children, but is great for any tender lover in the bunch. Their weekly "features" are a series of daily specials that range from prime rib nights on Wednesdays and ribeyes on Thursdays, and "kids eat free" specials + their happy hour give folks plenty of reason to check it out. ___________ ( #1) Especially during their seasonal deals which can sometimes include steep discounts.
