The 401 is a causal restaurant with adequate parking and a spacious dining room. It's a popular restaurant for the area so reservations or early an arrival should be considered. My server was friendly and no long waits from the time of introductions to the arrival of food were experienced. My meal started with Tortilla Soup 4/5 followed by Parmesan-Crusted Rainbow Trout 5/5 served with Brussels Sprouts (3/5 too sweet for me) and pasta. The size of the dish would easily satisfy big appetites. I've dined here twice and both times very happy with the atmosphere and great food, looking forward to the next visit.

My coworkers are always hyping this place up, so I needed to visit to see what the hype was about. Y'all..I understand it now. Those brussel sprouts and poke nachos I ordered, were absolutely scrumptious. The decor was of course on point and very fitting for the ambiance and the waitress did a great job at making sure all needs were met. Will for sure be visiting again!

I had a SUPER leisurely lunch here today with friends! My out of town friends suggested this local restaurant. Immediately seated. The server gave us ample time to order as we sat chatting for a bit, and we sat after lunch for a bit. This is a very pretty local restaurant - it is well populated by the locals, and people are also coming around from nearby towns. Our meals came out in about 10 minutes and the only think that was better than the food presentation was the taste! - nice portions too. No photos of the ice tea but it was also very good. We didn't try the appetizer this time. Normally we'll get the artichoke dip. There's an overflow parking lot a block away as the parking in front can fill up during peak time.

Upon opening the door, I was loving the interior of the restaurant. There was a bench surrounded by fake flowers for customers to take pretty pictures. The bar area was on the right. I had the fire-roasted Brussels sprouts, and Sun-Dried Tomato Lemon Pasta. The Brussels sprouts were crispy, but the sweet chili sauce didn't had any spiciness to it. The lemon pasta was flavorful. It was lemony, but not tart. There is a kids area with TV, tablets, and books for kids. Kids eat free on Mondays with purchase of an adult entree. There is ample parking in front of the restaurant. Reservation isn't necessary, but the influx of patrons during peak hours is high. I would go back to try other dishes.

Okay this place is cute and has a lot to offer both on the menu and in unique experiences. The interior is really cuteee. Also interesting note they have a child's play room. The menu is very diverse and has something for every pallete whether you're vegan, pescatarian or a carnivore. They also have an array of beverages to choose from both alcoholic and non alcoholic. Our waiter was great and very helpful with choosing apps and entry selections. We ordered the jalapeno hummus with pita bread and I found it to be pretty bland. For my main course I ordered the vegan Mediterranean bowl and I added salmon like other reviewers recommended! Umpt ya know I wasn't that impressed but it did taste fresh! Now would I try this place again yes! Because the service is good and I want to try their brunch!

So we came in for lunch on a Monday with a another family for a party of 4 adults and 6 kids. So The '401 has a Monday special where kids eat free with the purchase of an adult entree. You can definitely tell this place, while a great brunch and date spot, also caters to families. There is even a dedicated play room for the kids so that the adults can actually have some conversation. Fortunately, we were there early so our large party of kids didn't have to fight with other kids inside. I really liked the Sun-Dried Tomato Lemon Pasta and The Chicken '401. While we had a brand new server who made a few mistakes, we could tell he was really trying and he was very polite and courteous. The decor inside is trendy and clean and just adds to a very pleasant experience. I am sure we will be back, especially with the Monday special.

I really enjoy eating at The '401 Their menu includes everything from a variety of appetizers, salads, soups, burgers, chicken sandwiches, gyro, platters, pasta entrees, Parmesan chicken etc....sides and even pizzas. I have ordered many meals dining inside and on their covered patio as well as placing many to go pick up orders. What really stands out is the service! Especially by one of their fabulous staff, Heidy! Kudos to her for the professional warm friendly and prompt service I received this past weekend as well as tonight at dinner. I knew our experience tonight would also be top notch as it was last time. I appreciate her so much and will look for her the next time I dine in! Thank you Heidy!!

I tried this place because I was looking for something on the healthy side to eat and it didn't disappoint. The server was nice and helped me to choose my meal. I ordered to go and it took me about 15 mins to get my food. There was a little waiting area that was open to the restaurant which was nice. My meal was tasty and the portion size was large. I would definitely visit again.

I had never heard of this restaurant before, my friends mom held her annual ladies Christmas gathering here this past weekend. This was a last minute reservation as the restaurant we had previously picked had a mix up with our reservation. I was so impressed that the restaurant was able to accommodate our party of 12. Our waiter was so nice and friendly and all of our food came out in a timely manner and everything came out correct. The food was delicious and the restaurant was very spacious. I'm obsessed with their Brussel sprouts! Everything was so good. Their carrot cake was delicious and such a good size for several of us to share. Will definitely will be going back. Parking is limited as there are several businesses around.

One of my fav spots to introduce ppl to. Stopped by for lunch my most recent visit. Service was paced well, waitress and manager were friendly. Hostess was rude because I had water that she didn't recognize. Manager explained to her all water is allowed inside. I've never had an issue with it there prior to this. Go to order: crab cakes & brussel sprouts Other favs: pizzas, pastas, goat cheese salad (my friend loves) , frozen mule, strawberry puree lemonade They have a ton of fun motivational and funny framed quotes in the restroom.. chill vibe

Ask the Community - The '401

I got to this page from the '401 website to make a reservation, but I can't find a way to do it. 🤷‍♀️. Am I missing something?

I don't really remember it being a reservation based business as in its NEEDED. Unless you're doing a big party, or just want to be on the safe side, I would suggest you call if you're having any issues.

Any gluten free options that are also egg, nut, and avocado free? Can anything be made without alliums?

I believe they have gluten-free options however, I highly suggest calling the restaurant to get a very direct answer

    Do they take Apple Pay?

Yes, we can take Apple Pay!

Do y'all have outdoor seating thats heated?

Definitely since it is 90s in the summer

    Is patio Dog friendly?

Yes! We have a section of the patio where we allow dogs 😀

    Do they play music?

Hi! We don't currently have live music but we do play a variety of enjoyable music through the speakers throughout our restaurant. We'd love to have you join us sometime to check it out!

    Sports on the TVs?

Yes and I'm sure you can ask them to turn on what you want to watch.

Do they have a kids menu?

Yes we do! We currently have chicken tenders with fries, grilled chicken with broccoli, kids quesadillas, hamburger, grilled cheese, penne pasta with meatballs, and chicken Alfredo. All kids meals include a small drink and a cookie.

She then text our friends group and said we all had to come together and we did just that. She made reservations in advance as this place is popular thanks to recent Michelin Bib Gourmand awards as well as many other accolades. Walk ins are welcome as well. Our reservation was later in the evening so after a night of bar hopping, we ride shared in which I think is one of the best options as parking is limited here or you have to find street parking in the neighborhood. This place is literally a house turned into a restaurant. Inside is just multiple rooms with a couple of tables. It makes for a unique, intimate dining experience, perfect for a date night. In our case, we were a group of nine so we got patio seating. The patio is spacious and well kept, and if the weather cooperates, a great place to hang. One thing that really stood out to me is the amazing ambience of this place. I was told that the bartenders pick the music for the night from the owners extensive vinyl collection. Once the album is in, they play it in it's entirety. The sound system was systeming and on top of the great company and food, we were totally vibing with the music. Customer service was amazing. Every staff member we came across was so friendly, especially our server. The menu here changes. There are some mainstays, but they like to change things up. Their website shows current menus daily. We were told that family style is the best way to experience this restaurant. I am one of those people that will always listen to the staff and go with their suggestions. Our group went through quite a bit of their menu from apps, entrees and desserts. I loved that our server and staff brought our food out one by one in what they thought was the best progression so we could take a culinary journey. We started off light with their popular Dilly Bread. Best bread I've had in awhile. Next was the Texas Tartare. It was my first ever tartare and it was delicious. We then moved on to Fingerlingin Good which was a crispy potato dish with chili crisp and mascarpone. It was potatoes elevated to the highest level and so so good. Next up was Beer Battered Sweet Tots. I didn't think sweet potatoes could be that good. Our first entree was a vegan dish called the Carroty Kid. I could seriously become a vegan if all dishes tasted like this. It was curried. A bowl of jasmine rice would've made it a complete meal. Next we tried another famous Nobie's dish called Nonno's Pasta. Handmade, perfectly cooked tagliatelle with a delicious bolognese. I wouldn't share this next time. Ok, I will, but it was that good. On to the heavier dishes. First up was the Jamon With Your Bad Self. This came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It was favorite heavy entree. It was high quality, iberico pork steak with shaved brussels and all kinds of other tasty ingredients that when combined made such a tasty bite. We then went to the sea with the Drops of Grouperter. It was good, but not something I would order again. It was a little too smoky for my liking. Our biggest dish that came market priced was the Kick His Ass Seabass. This was a whole fish that was presented beautifully on a platter with all the accouterments to make your own elevated fish tacos. We left no morsel of fish behind. It was absolutely delicious. One of the things this place is really known for is their pies. This was the part I was most excited about. Just like their menu, their pies change up. We got all their offerings that night which they presented on one big platter of goodness. Their main stay and I believe always on the menu is the famous Olive Oil Cake. It's not a pie, but I can see why this is such a popular dessert. I can't even describe it, you just have to try it to understand. The pies we had were the Black Bottom Strawberry Pie, Banana Rum, and the Peanut Butter Pie. I would order all of them again. We all had a difference of opinion on which was the best, but my fave was the Banana Rum. Overall, I was highly impressed with this place and kind of mad at myself for waiting so long to make it here. It had made it's way to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in Houston. I will be back.

He ended up being one of the best aspects of our experience that evening. Our waitress wasn't nearly as good. We started by asking for ice in the water from the waitress since they just give you room temp water. After 10 mins of seeing her serve other tables and ignoring our request, we then figured the water boy would make it happen...and sure enough he did. We then ordered the grilled oysters, which are very lightly cooked, almost seemingly steamed more than anything, but they were very good regardless of the cooking method with the sauces and garnishes and pickle juice added. Next up was ordering the entrees. The menu here is a little strange with numerous vegan choices with strange titles and only a few items with protein. To top it off, there are not many choices period. The waitress explained that the left side is basically the apps, and the right side is basically the entrees. I knew I wanted to try the wagyu flat iron steak which is priced pretty high here, compared to other wagyu flat irons I've had at other restaurants across the US. We couldn't really decide on a 2nd main dish then the waitress mentioned the off the menu special which was a scallop pasta so we picked that thinking it sounded delicious. The entrees come out about 15 mins later, and we take our first bites and we both thought, oh no, if we share the other person across from me isn't going to like this dish because it's too salty. I tried the steak first and noticed the sauce being extra salty, then I tried the pasta and the pasta was way worse, but the scallops didn't seem to be affected. We immediately told the waitress the next time she stopped by....and she just said okay, and walked away. I figured she would go get the manager....but nope...she just kept on serving other tables. At this point we thought to ourselves only the oyster app was decent.....and no reason to look at the dessert menu since we had already spent over $100 on food we could hardly eat. Sure enough, the waitress stops by a 2nd time and asks if we'd like to see the dessert menu. I couldn't leave fast enough and told her we'll skip. Needless to say we both left hungry as the portions were not only not edible, but also fairly small. The water boy also stopped by and offered to turn on the heater if we get cold. Boy, I wish he was our waiter instead. For a supposedly Michelin-starred restaurant, I feel they really got this one wrong.

The intimate indoor space was lovely and well ventilated, and it felt like there wasn't ever a moment where the bar wasn't slammed. The outdoor space was much of the same, with lots of tables and chairs, and even the trendy swing chairs facing the city. The only thing that was a little bit of a liability were those open flame heaters; it would only take on person to accidentally walk into one or trip onto it. For libations, the drinks were well priced, well made, and always potent. I appreciated the aesthetics, as well as the bartenders who made them. The only part that wasn't exciting was the limited food menu, which did its part as munchies for the drink heavy crowd, but was mediocre otherwise. As a Wisconsinite, I had to put the cheese curds to the best. For non-Wisconsin curds, they were solid. The ranch was amazing too. I also tried the three cheese cavatappi pasta bake. It was so cheesy and gooey. I'd highly recommend it if you're looking for non-traditional bar food. My friend had the chicken tenders and said they were good. We came to watch the Utah Mammoth @ Nashville Predators game. While the staff tried their best to get it onto the TV for us, it unfortunately didn't work. However, the staff were so accommodating with letting us stick around to watch it on our ESPN app.

Apparently this wasn't the first time. The server we had was amazing but the manager... not so much... I was the second victim of this. They have plenty of TVs to watch sports if you want to come check out the games. Bring your friends, enjoy yourself.. just be careful with the food. Spicy Margarita: 7/10... the spice was right but did not taste like it had any alcohol in it. Tom's Famous Prime Rib Sandwich: 0/10.. they left the paper on the cheese in the sandwich.....again...do not get it unless you want to gamble Korean BBQ Wings: 5/10.. the wings were cool but wasn't cooked well enough for me.

East coast oysters: 9/10 absolutely love them! The Prince Edward Island ones always have my heart! A little on the smaller side though Gulf coast oysters: 8/10 I'm usually not a gulf coast oyster person but I enjoy how hearty and fresh these ones were. And I also don't usually love the cocktail sauce but this one was rly good a little savory, spicy, and sweet and a healthy amount of lemon juice of course. Deviled eggs: 10/10 these were nice and creamy and had good crunchy texture with the bacon bits and pickles Steak nigiri: 8/10 I would have scored these lower if it weren't for the steak. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly but it the rice underneath just felt out of place and unnecessary and not too mention too plentiful. I would love a plate of just the steak and the compote or sauce that was on top. I will definitely be coming back and trying more items on the menu!

Great deal. My margarita was very unique with charcoal and black lava salt. Overall, pretty good drink. I forgot to snap a picture.
