I really wanted to like this place after we had such a great experience at the attached Tiny's Milk and Cookies, but ultimately, despite handling the Father's Day rush well, I was really disappointed with the food quality and service. We came in on the Saturday before Father's Day and as expected there was pretty good turnout, but I do feel the front staff handled it well, no complaints there. The atmosphere is very cute and rustic, although with a full house, it gets really loud with everyone conversing (not to mention it's all hard surfaces on the interior so the sound just bounces around). Our server was pleasant enough, but did not seem to care for our table and was more interested in talking with other staff off to the side. Due to the weekend turnout, the food took quite a while to come out (45 minutes or so) and with very little update from anyone. We got the burrata brunch appetizer, chilaquiles, and salmon avocado toast. The Avocado toast took another 10 minutes to come out after everything else did with the reason being "we're still plating it". I'm no chef, but I wasn't exactly impressed with the plating of salmon tossed haphazardly onto the toast and plate. Taste for everything was just "okay" despite touting farm fresh ingredients and everything being made "in-house". The others at my table had a slightly better experience with their dishes, but overall it was a bit of a letdown (despite how good things looked in the photos). I wouldn't be so critical if it weren't for the fact there are so many other great restaurants in the area and in Houston as well. Maybe it was just a busy day and I would be open to giving it another shot, but ultimately, I would try somewhere else if I wanted a cozy brunch spot. Again, I did enjoy the milk and cookies and pastries courtesy of the adjoining bakery, but the actual brunch service could use some work. read more

I love the ambiance of this restaurant! Such a warm and inviting place with nice restrooms. When a restaurant has a good bathroom, it says a lot about the establishment. My Migas were phenomenal. The pork almost melted into the eggs. The French fries with my husband's Cuban sandwich were delicious and the chipotle aioli was great. We also got the crab cakes, which we enjoyed and the bread, which I would have preferred to not be toasted. They do not accept reservations for breakfast, so we arrived right when they opened and I am glad we did because the place quickly filled up on a Sunday morning. My mo would have enjoyed this spot. After going to the 'wrong' location of Milk & Cookies next door, I wanted to return here for my last lunch before leaving town due to the pleasant staff and similar menu to Tiny Boxwoods since they're in the same family. Taking a seat at the bar, a bartender/server was attentive right away. I didn't see the risotto I had the previous day at the other restaurant, but they had the summer salad I was looking to try, in addition to some of their house fries. For some reason, I thought the salad had grapes (it did not) so I guess I was trying to make this into a Waldorf-style in my head, but I still enjoyed what I had. There weren't as many julienned apples in my dish as I have seen in photos, so I made sure I consumed all the ones I came across. Candied nuts-pecans in this case-make everything taste better. Fries with ketchup and a chipotle aioli were also enjoyable, and I could not finish the portion. Bar filled up while I was there, and the smaller dining room off the side was packed. It took some time to grab the attention of the staff, but once I did, I added five cookies to go for the flight crew. Parking lot is a little oddly shaped but I'm just grateful they have a (free) lot, and spots were available on both my visits. All the places under the Tiny Boxwood umbrella I tried were enjoyable, and I look forward to trying more dishes on a future visit! read more

Really enjoyed my time at Tinys. We sat outside, and it was hot, but still somewhat enjoyable, I believe our server was Jalyn, she was so sweet and patient. Per her recommendation, I had the Paloma cocktail, which was light and refreshing. For my meal, I ordered the Watercolor, and it was incredibly flavorful! My friend is allergic to shrimp so we had to get the shrimp on the side, but surprisingly it still was very flavorful. I appreciated the kitchen ability to keep the consideration for the allergy in mind. We also shared the prosciutto and fig pizza. I was too full to try it, but my friend really enjoyed it. For dessert, we split the chocolate chip cookie, which was served warm, gooey, and perfectly soft. It was the perfect way to end the meal! read more

Stopped by Tiny's No. 5 yesterday for a later Saturday brunch. The place was packed, so our wait was about 50 minutes--but that's to be expected on a busy weekend. I ordered the Mother's Breakfast with scrambled eggs and sausage, a cinnamon roll, and the Lucky Burger. My absolute favorite part of the meal? The biscuits with honey butter and strawberry jam that came with the Mother's Breakfast. The biscuits were perfectly fluffy, and the honey butter + strawberry jam combo was honestly to die for--I'd go back just for those. The cinnamon roll, unfortunately, was a bit of a letdown. It came out room temperature and the icing wasn't melted at all, which made it feel pretty "mid," especially knowing their pastry shop is attached. The Lucky Burger was solid, and the highlight was definitely the Lucky Sauce--that really made the burger. Overall, the restaurant has a cozy, inviting vibe. We love the location of Tiny's No 5 in the heart of the West U neighborhood! We've been visiting the location for years for their bakery and had never actually eaten at the restaurant until yesterday for lunch. It's a very nicely decorated and laid out restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating options, and the staff was attentive throughout our visit. We thought everything we ordered was good, but if we were to return we agreed the only item we'd likely reorder is the burrata. Although the presentation made it a bit tricky to eat, we figured it out and really liked the flavor combination with the burrata, marinated tomato, olive tamponade, pesto and balsamic. My husband got the Bee Keeper cocktail and said it was refreshing, but much more suitable for spring/summer than winter. For his entree, he got the Lucky Burger and said he liked it but wasn't wild about the sauce that came on it, wishing that had come on the side instead. I ordered the Cubano with a side salad and thought it was tasty, especially with the homemade spicy mustard. The sourdough was tender and slightly crispy due to being buttered and pan fried. We ended by getting cookies to go since we were full from our meals! We always enjoy their cookies as a straight forward, basic chocolate chip. Given the service, ambiance and quite decent food we wouldn't count out a return visit, but we did feel like the prices were a bit steep, especially at lunch time, paying over $100 with tip for what is listed above. read more

We had some sourdough bread to start and each had a cocktail from the menu you see in the picture. they loose the 5th star since said cocktails arrived after the mains arrived despite being ordered right when we sat down. I guess understaffed, but still.... Other mains ordered were teh lucky burger, some sort of pasta boulanaise, a chicken romesco. All good stuff but lots of flavor, spices etc. not for those used to eating more plain food. I love this for a good outdoor experience. Great little neighborhood restaurant that is quiet. They do get busy at times.. but always has a relaxing feel. The food is so so good. My favorite has to be the sweet potato fries but also really really love the turkey club. Great dog friendly patio, I try to bring my dog Oliver when I can. First time brunching on a Sunday... This place is always jamming on Sunday, as it closes early at 2:00pm. Normal wait time around 11:30am is 30-40 minutes. If you live in the area, the key is to get on wait list before actually arriving. Getting on the wait list requires an in-person visit, and then you can show up at the appointed time. The restaurant is good about estimating the wait time, and they will text you with a 10 minute grace period. We tried margaritas, the Mom's Breakfast, and an avocado club sandwich. The food is really tasty, and the cocktails are pretty awesome. I would suggest ordering as soon as you sit down so the food wait is not as long. read more

Anytime I come to Houston I make it a habit to hit up one of these locations for brunch. As usual I always have a pleasant experience. I wouldn't order brunch food unless you want to leave hungry and unsatisfied, but the lunch and dinner food is generously apportioned and tasty. This time we ordered the cubano sandwich (the sandwich and the sweet potato fries were terrific) and the turkey burger (was more of a miss, because the patty was sour from all the cheese in it, but the soup was good). A few minutes after 6:30 PM, the hostess came over and told us the table was reserved for 6:30 PM and that we needed to start wrapping up and head out now, which caught us off guard since no one mentioned a time limit when we were seated. Our waitress was very kind and apologetic afterward, which we appreciated, but there was no acknowledgment or apology from management before we left. I completely understand reservations and table timing, but a heads-up at the beginning would have gone a long way and avoided the awkward rush at the end. I was really disappointed in my recent experience at Tiny's. I love coming here for brunch. This was my first time coming with my baby. I just want to preface this by saying RANIA WAS AMAZING. She was our waitress and she's the reason the experience got so much better. But the host that took us to our table is the one that ruined our experience. She was so rude and cold. She took us to our table which was a small round table between 2 other tables filled with people. She saw us struggling trying to figure out where we would put our baby carrier (clearly no where there was no room). She just stood there, rolled her eyes and waited for us to figure it out. I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life. We finally asked her to go to the host stand and let us know if there were any other open tables. It was so hot outside but we didn't even mind sitting outside. She rudely replied "well you can come up with me to the host stand" idk how we could have? I was stuck in the booth and my husband had the baby carrier. She finally came back and told us there was a table available outside. She took us, threw the menus on the table and left. It was the most horrible encounter I have ever dealt with at Tiny's. I wanted to leave by my husband told me it wasn't worth it. Our waitress Rania came and was so kind, got us our orders in and realized it was too hot for the baby and got us a table inside. She was an angel. The host was the white brunette who works in the front. Idk her name I was too pissed to ask for it. Another thing- if you see 2 people with baby carrier and take them to a small small table wouldn't you want to use your common sense and have any type of courtesy to be like hey let me help you guys out? We came here for an early dinner on a Saturday (around 5:15pm) as it was lovely patio weather. Many others thought so as well, but we were able to snag a table regardless. They have an interesting menu in that many of the dinner options were heavier/bigger than we were looking for (but they sound delicious) so we opted to share a pizza and the shishito peppers. The pizza crust was just about perfect; nice char while still having a pleasant softness and droop for foldability. The peppers were also nice, albeit gigantic when it comes to generally small and poppable shishitos - a pleasant surprise! Service was very friendly. Pretty good neighborhood spot. Nice grassy area for kids. Ordered the migas, avocado toast , and sweet potato fries. Everything gave basic millennial Americana in a good way. The sweet potato fries were crunchy, the migas had a bit of a kick to them but barely ( I don't eat spicy things so keep that in mind). Avocado toast was well seasoned. The bread was a bit thicc but it probably helped it not become too soggy. Service around 12:00 became a bit slow as the the lunch crowd came but our waiter was pretty nice. This isn't a place where you come to impress someone and not every place has to. It is solid brunch fair. read more

This place has that small town charm, but is located in the middle of the city. Came here for a quick dinner on a work night. Ended up having a glass of sauvignon blanc and a pizza. The pancakes were golden, fluffy, light, and gently sweet. However, the little container of syrup was 1/3 full, which felt a little cheap. There was a ton of butter and 2 spoonfuls of jam. The ratio of toppings served felt, but maybe that's just me. The server was friendly and brought more syrup when I asked for it. Bacon was well done and was on the crispier side. Tried some of my friends' dishes and they were both over salted. Prices are slightly expensive for the quality of the food, in my opinion. Demi our server was really friendly, but we got far better service from other wait staff bringing the drinks and food than we did from her. She forgot to bring our water to our table, and we got our food far before we were ever given water. The matcha latte I ordered was great, and so was the honey lavender flat white my dad ordered. The hot chocolate looked like it was made from a packet. My friend ordered the dirty matcha chai but she stated the waitress didn't ask her to sweeten it and would've tasted better if it had been sweetened. I was celebrating my one year remission from cancer treatment so it definitely was a little disappointing that the service could have been better. Overall, we did wait a tad bit for our food to arrive, and it was quite noisy indoors but it was raining and humid outdoors. If it weren't for the great flavor of the food, I wouldn't return. I've been here a few times but it hasn't been super memorable, as I find it to be hit or miss. I've had avocado toast for brunch and more recently, fried okra and a Caesar salad. The salad was drowning in dressing--soggy and unpleasant. The croutons were tiny, scarce, and more chewy than crunchy. The fried okra was very crispy and delicious, but half of the order seemed to be crispy batter bits vs. more substantial pieces of okra. I liked my white wine mojito--it was decently strong, but would have had a nicer flavor with the mint being muddled instead of a large sprig as garnish. We finished with the doughnuts for dessert, which I've definitely had better. I'd consider them to be cake doughnut holes, of which I'm not a big fan. However, the basque cheesecake with cherry sauce and candied pistachios was fantastic. Service was good, and they gave us some excellent chocolate chip cookies to take home.
