Can't give a fully accurate review, but I've been here a few times now and really enjoy the place. Good tea and plenty of seating, a cute barista too. Only downside, tried to go upstairs and everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at me. Hated to be perceived as if I had interrupted some organized and exclusive meeting of hungover art majors. Needless to say I went to the outside seating. 4.5 out of 5. read more

I think I just found my new favorite coffee spot near the UC campus! The 86 was a cozy coffee shop that served up a DELICIOUS caramel latte. I cozied up doing work in a large comfortable window booth but was sad I didn't notice the adorable upstairs seating until later in the morning. On Wednesday's the local joint serves up free pancakes from 8-10 so I guess I know where I'll be this coming Wednesday before work ;) read more

So lucky to have found this on our visit to Cincy! Chris made a super half caf Americana that it seems is such a challenge for barristas at other coffee houses. Upstairs seating is really nice and quiet and Chris brought up waters for as our hands were full with coffees and fabulous banana bread so another shout out to him! Outside seating looked lovely but it was raining pretty good. Lots of distinctive character and will be our Cincy coffee house! read more

Great location, amazing coffee, decent internet and friendly staff. I had the blended caramel latte and it was delicious and surprisingly not too sweet; actually one of the very few caramel flavored drinks (that I have had) which has a lovely caramel flavor without being cloyingly sweet. Job well done. Their chocolate cheesecake muffin was decent with a big dollop of cheesecakey goodness in the center; I mean how could you go wrong with that ? They have plenty of seating spread over 2 levels and they have very cool art pieces for their decor. They do not have off street parking and parking in this area is hard to come by but that is expected from a University neighborhood. If you circle the block a couple of rounds you should be able to find metered spots (at a reasonable price). My only complaint would be the music they played while I was there was a little too loud to my liking. Overall loved their vibe and coffee; will be coming back soon ! read more

What an AMAZING Cincinnati gem that I just discovered! I was meeting a friend there and was blown away by this cool, hip & open place. I got to talk to one of the owners who was so friendly & told me the story about why they created this coffee shop. They wanted a place in Clifton for people to come and hangout that wasn't a bar since there is an abundance of those in the area! They have a pool table and you can play for free. They have couches and tables and chairs. Their outdoor patio is huge! I got the red velvet hot chocolate and it was SO good! I look forward to going back soon! It's definitely one of my new favorite places in Cincinnati! Yay for small businesses! read more

I Absolutely love this place. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is so cozy!!!!!!!

A real hidden gem with an old and deathly charm (this place used to be a morgue?!). I came here with a group of friends interested in checking out the food options available on Short Vine. Several of us had seen the place but never gone in. I have been seriously missing out! When you walk in you can go up to the right through a series of short steps. Enter and find a large but dark open room with a bright skylight and a coffee bar to the right. To the back left is a stage and back right is a pool table. Inside you'll find an array of seating, anything from bar stools to a corner couch and a table for oversized checkers. Keep walking and you'll end up in the enormous courtyard. If you missed it walking in, there is a lower floor to the left. This is where they roast their own coffee! They also have a stage and some amazing exposed stone walls. Talking with one of the owners, he told us that they have been here over 4 years but originally the building used to be a morgue! (Reading another Yelper's review about the death black walls made me laugh knowing this.) He talked with us for a while about his roasting and the history of the place. A place with a unique history and amazing architecture? Say hi to my new haunt! As for the food and drinks, they have a small range of nibbles and concert venue snacks. Their coffee house drinks range from coffee to "cremes" and shakes. I asked the barista for his favorite non-caffeinated drink. He suggested the Red Velvet Creme. I was apprehensive because I don't care for red velvet cake, but I took his word. It was GREAT! So smooth and creamy (hence the name right)? They also have fruit smoothies made from puree. And the prices? Very reasonable! Overall a really cool spot. Next time you'll find me haunting a corner while writing or jamming to their range of musical performances. read more

Unlimited coffee or tea is just $4 and you get to choose from a unique selection of assorted mugs. They also have siphon and pourover coffee for $3.50-$4. I want to try their specialty smoothies next time I visit (like the Reese's)! Service is friendly and chill. First time visitor but already sold as my go-to coffee shop on and around campus. There was a crazy amount of space inside and a huge rooftop patio. I popped to study a few hours before my morning class and went with the cappuccino--probably the best I've had. It was so smooth and rich, a lot of times I find my cappuccinos a bit bitter and too foamy, but at The 86 its both sweet and more reasonably priced than a Starbucks tall. Aside from the coffee and the spacious floor plan (there were a solid three table between myself and the closest patron; no complaints though, I need total silence to study) I am in love with the local art. Right when you walk in there is a small blurb of the featured artist. I think when I stopped in it was a fourth year DAAP student. All the pieces were tempting buys and well priced (~150$). Plus with a new artist every few weeks the whole shop undergoes a sort of "remodel", and the perfect amount of change for me! This place definitely makes studying a bit more doable and I am already looking for another excuse to study a few hours next week. read more

The 86 club is an alcohol alternative music venue for high school ages and up. Since no alcohol is served you can wet your whistle with a coffee or a smoothie. The smoothies are delightful. If you're feeling sassy I recommend trying the peanut butter chocolate smoothie but ask the staff if they'll blend in some Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Woah buddy, so yummy in my tummy! As a coffee lover and as a normal human being, I love finding a good coffee shop. The 86 is a hidden gym that deserves all the love it can be given. The atmosphere is what sold me on this shop as soon as I walked in. The vibe is relaxed and beyond chill. It's so cool, hipsters haven't even found it yet. Besides coffee, I also love a good game. The 86 has these in large supply. From the free pool table to the gaint chess set to the table full of card and board games, the 86 has it all. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is the coffee itself. Don't get me wrong. It's good. The espresso is everything it needs to be and the cold brew nitro, while not for everyone, is worth a try. Their speciality drinks are good but they lack some of the luster that other shops have. That's my only minor, minor complaint. But still this place is awesome. read more

I came here recently before I went to a park with one of my friends and I was very happy with the coffee! I don't usually come to this part of Cincy but if you live around here it is definitely worth the trip. The one major con that I have about this place is that the parking situation is far from ideal - since it is at the bottom of a hill and the parking is parallel. I had a really hard time getting out of the spot because my car would roll whenever I tried to leave. In terms of the actual coffee it was pretty good. I usually always get a black coffee and I was happy with their selection outside of this. They seemed to have quite a good menu with a wide variety of coffee options that can appeal to everyone. They also have very cute mugs here that you can order coffee in. They had a lot of seating and this place seems like it would be a great place to study or get work done when the pandemic is over. I may come back here if I am in the area but it isn't a place I would necessarily go out of the way for. read more

One of my favorite coffee spots in the city. The workers are friendly and quick with my caffeine delivery. I had the nitro brewed once and I had the jitters. Potent stuff not for the faint of heart. I like the layout and the sort of college basement meets performance space vibe. Years (decade ago?) I saw a band here and never came back until recently. I'm glad I did and try to stop here whenever I'm in the area. Musicians and artists still have a home here and performances and exhibitions happen regularly. Check their website/facebook. Parking isn't the easiest in this area. You'll need to park on a side street (just a reminder, have NOTHING visible in your car as petty car break ins happen frequently in Clifton. Got the red velvet hot chocolate--very sweet. Hip atmosphere, great place to meet with a group of friends to catch up, play pool, etc. The music isn't too loud to work on the free wifi. Was a little chilly on a winter afternoon. The guy at the bar explained that when a restaurant customer changes their order, the waiter has to "86" (cancel, throw out) the original one. But at The 86, everyone is welcome; no matter who they are, they will not be "86ed." Nice. read more

This is a great cafe right by campus. I go here plenty of times to have coffee chats with students, friends, and UC colleagues, and it never disappoints. I normally get the 86 Cider and it is fabulous. My counterparts have always enjoyed whatever coffee selection, cream or not, they've chosen. Plenty of space upstairs for sitting and studying if you feel so inclined. Otherwise, baristas are friendly and will gladly answer any questions you have. read more

I walked here to grab a late afternoon pick me up and ended up talking with the owner and grabbing a bag of beans. The space is really cute and seems great for working, meeting friends, or just relaxing (especially now that UC is out for the summer). When I walked in I was greeted by the owner, I told him I was grabbing coffee but wanted to look at their coffee beans too. He walked me through their varieties, which ones are sourced from farms they work directly with, and the roasts/flavors etc. I went with a light roast Guatemalan bean since that was a direct seller and grabbed a latte. The beans are ~$13 a bag, but I have at most 1 cup a day, and buying fair trade is important to me so it's worth it. Also, the coffee tastes great! read more

I can't believe I didn't spend time here sooner. I had a huge fight with my boyfriend and came here to grab a cup of coffee and just chill out. The guys working were super sweet and were patient while I figured out what I wanted. Bottomless cup of coffee is $3.50 and its a great bold, dark roast. Best part is, there's a wall full of mugs and you can pick which one you want. Love it! They have some things to snack on too that they warm up for you, like pretzel or nachos. Some baked goods too. Decided to give this place a try after seeing it across campus. It is a great place to study. Trustable wifi, great relaxing environment inside. It is usually very busy and a bit louder but if you don't mind studying a place with more noise it isn't bad. Workers are extremely nice and I got the matcha latte and it was great. You know what I love most about about this place? Coffee...community...creativity...and even the occasional concert. This place is all about the things I love! There's a great mix of college students, neighbors, and professional from around Short Vine who frequent the place and make it great.
