A classic coffee spot in OTR! This location is located in the old Ohio Mechanics Institute, so it has a cool industrial vibe. We came to coffee emporium at around noon on a Saturday and they stayed consistently busy. We were lucky enough to get parking in front but I would recommend giving yourself time to park if you are meeting someone at a specific time. The inside is pretty big they have an entire wall of fresh coffee beans you can buy with easily 15 types of beans to choose from. They have a large variety of pastries available for purchase as well. The line moves quick and drinks follow after quickly as well. They have a decent sized menu and lots of syrups but I couldn't tell if they were homemade or not. I didn't get a coffee but their chai is okay not my favorite but not bad. We bought a bag of beans to try at home so we'll see how their coffee turns out. The seating area is mainly tables and high tops with industrial style chairs. This spot would definitely be somewhere to get work done. read more

What a gem - exactly what I'm looking for when I'm traveling for work and need a spot to hunker down in to get stuff done. I discovered this coffee shop on Yelp a few days before I got to town. It was right around the corner from my hotel so it worked out perfectly. I arrived to find a space that's much larger than what I expected. It's got an industrial vibe but with a ton of natural sunlight, and some cozy touches... like plants and strung twinkle lights. There's a large seating area to the right, and a home goods shopping + snacks + bakery items, section to the left. You place your order right in the middle. My coworker and I stayed for quite a while. Because of that, I ordered a handful of different things. I started things out with an iced latte and a gluten free muffin. The coffee was exactly what I was craving but the muffin could have been better. A little later on I got a lavender matcha and that was perfect. One thing to note: There's a 45 minute time limit on their free wifi - but once that time is up you can easily log back in for another 45 minutes. This was kind of annoying considering the "time limit" wasn't truly a limit, but I get the gist. Pro tip - Anytime I stay at a coffee shop for a long period of time, I continue to make purchases, hence me getting another drink a few hours later. I suggest you do too so you're not just taking up space but continuing to support the business while you're at it. read more

Services were great. The cashier asked me if I wanted a coffee grinder, warm their scones, whipping or whole milk were ok. All did not take long time. Sitting in the heart of downtown, this coffee shop is absolutely massive with plenty of seating and an attractive industrial look. The vibe is less so for socializing and relaxing, and moreso for getting work done. The baristas are friendly and knowledgeable. Who knew this was a coffee place so close to where we stayed in the OTR! It looks deceiving on the outside but it's spacious on the inside and has an industrial feel. I ordered an Assam hot tea, perfect way to start my day. My sisters and I ordered a variety of pastries so we could have a tasting we ordered the raspberry jam, scone, blueberry muffin, cinnamon coffee cake, and cinnamon muffin. The Coffee Emporium was exactly that. It was a large place with lots of choices, unfortunately not many vegan choices. It was incredibly busy around 10a on Saturday. We ordered to stay and had to request regular coffee cups. The default as always is to go cups. Almost every table around us was drinking out of to go cups. I did appreciate they had reusable water cups. The coffee they sold by the bag had very attractive packaging and the drinks themselves were good. The staff seemed to be very busy and many of the tables in the dining room needed to be wiped off. We ended up sitting at a much larger table than we needed. Despite minor issues I would go back. I don't even know where to start at this point. I'm just really disappointed. I've been coming here now for at least the last 12 years maybe even longer. I understand that every barista is not the same but there needs to be some level of consistency. The Cafe Mocha is normally creamy and it's super smooth and it's hot. Now on other days when you get it sometimes super bland. It's not even flavorful and as well sometimes you can taste the espresso is burnt. At this point, I don't even know if I really wanna continue to come here because the last three drinks I'd have received have not been great. I'm paying with top $7.50 for coffee. My favorite Cincinnati in-store coffee shop. Emphasis on "in-store coffee shop" - not my favorite coffee- but it's pretty good locally roasted and the rest of the menu is full of variety. My favorite is a cold brew with extra cream or the frozen Orange Julius smoothie drink and a lemon loaf. And my emphasis on in store coffee shop is because there are many other great and quite lovely local carryout coffee shops and places with great coffee- but the Coffee Emporium downtown is a quintessential coffee shop. It's cozy yet spacious. It has great food (not just baked goods)- and beverage selections. They have great aesthetically pleasing bags of whole bean coffee and merch. The employees are friendly and operate organized and efficiently and the clientele is diverse. It feels like a shop that I would see my favorite fictional characters frequent. It feels like somewhere a rom com would take place. Not only can you come here and work your way through the day without knowing, they have some of the BEST coffee i've had (coming from someone who doesn't even drink coffee like that) i had a cold brew with vanilla flavoring (iced) and it was delicious and not too strong or sweet and just right.
