The quality of the food here is always top notch. We stop here whenever we visit the kids at Providence College. Potato skins, burgers, chili....all excellent. There is sometimes a wait (very popular spot) and sometimes the service is a tad slow (small kitchen). The food and atmosphere are worth the wait in all cases. Must stop when at P.C.! read more

I usually go to The Abbey on Tuesdays for wing night. Their special is 50 cent wings from 5pm-close (minimum 5 wings per order and per sauce). So far I've tried the following flavors: Buffalo, buffacue, sweet Thai chili (my favorite), kickn' sticky jack, salt and pepper, and steakhouse. The waitresses/waiters are really nice and efficient. Great, around the corner low key neighborhood dive bar kind of joint. Didn't know about this place until recently. Came here on a weekday night, was not that busy. Service was great and bartender prompt in filling up drinks. They have a decent selection of craft beers (only 2 IPAs on tap though :/) but also have a bunch in cans. Great place to watch the game after work or to just chill. I didn't get to have their food, but would def want to try their burgers (menu's mostly bar food). Overall good experience, would come back if I'm nearby although prob not if it was crowded. 3.5 stars. read more

Took my friends from out of town here as they were looking for a good burger. We got there and service was slow but can't complain about that given the current environment. I ordered a burger in a wrap which was pretty good, until I took a bite and found a metal wired twist tie in my sandwich. I almost choked not knowing what it was, but once I got it out I was stunned something like this would be in my meal. I told our waitress who was very nice about the situation, but there was clearly no management on staff. She came back apologetic and offered a free drink and to comp my meal. I was expecting they would comp the bill considering I've never seen anything like this before so this surprised me. We asked for the check and she said they discounted the bill. When she brought it out we noticed it was a whole $5 off! I'm incredibly disappointed with the entire experience and embarrassed that I brought friends here for a good meal. Have gone to get food here many times seems like it has gone down hill ever since the pandemic. Have been turned away rudely when the kitchen was closed and only the bar was open. Went again giving the benefit of doubt and was disappointed again. Waited over 25 minutes and wasn't ever given menus or drinks at all. Waiters would chit chat at other tables and not even give us the time of day. Thought moving to the bar would be better wasn't bartender looked in the direction and never even greeted us. Left with out ever being talked to and other people had the same issues and left as well. read more

Sometimes you come across that place that just gets it right. A place where people understand what they do well, are comfortable with that, and hone their skill and excel at their craft. In the case here at the Abbey: it's beer, rings, and burgers. First off let me say: these are amongst the best damn onion rings I've had in a long time. The making of a good ring is becoming a lost art. They use the whole, sweet onion, the salting and seasoning is right, and a fry batter that applies enough of a crunch but does not overpower or annoy. The menu features a plethora of burger options to choose from, and similar to a fine dining, yet pub experience. The Abbey recommends a beer pairing with each burger ranging from lager to sour ale. Though the burgers have catchy names (The Hungry Man, the Couch Potato, The Macho Man, The Montfiere) they do NOT get away from the standard of a divine burger: quality round that in cooking has regained its juices, and in observing my picture, look at the size of the burger and the preparation! They take your credit card to start a tab which is annoying to begin with, but then the bartender never gave it back so I had to drive 30 minutes the day to that shit hole to get my card back read more

It was St Patricks day and I understand the kitchen could have been busy but the server did not even explain that to us or say sorry! He didnt even get us waters!!!! Got a pulled pork sandwich with tater tot's, while my partner got a burger which they are known for. Both were tasty and I was very happy with the appetizer offerings, I enjoy going to a bar and getting a drink and an app and I will definitely be back to do just that. Great pub in an unassuming location. Inside is a warm interior serving a nice variety of beer and food. Mozzarella sticks were a hit. Beer battered and cooked just right. The pretzel was warm and soft and hit the spot. Have to leave room for a burger as these are awesome and very tasty. We love this place and highly recommend. read more

my husband and i had an absolutely delightful lunch on a lazy Saturday afternoon, after seeing a repeat Phantom Gourmet that featured The Abbey, inspiring us to make the 40 minute drive. it was so. worth. it. we started with the house made chips and chose to get french onion dip AND beer cheese dip. everything really is clearly made in house, and both dips were delicious. chips were clearly freshly fried, and well-seasoned themselves. for entrees, my husband and i each got a burger. i got a cubano, and he got the highwayman. we were so impressed by everything, from the bread, to the patties, to the toppings- everything was top notch. the half sour pickles on my cubano added a burst of freshness to a burger that was pretty rich, but totally delicious. the french loaf was expertly grilled and able to stand up to the sandwich innards. my husband's highwayman was deliciously smokey, and had a slightly brunchy vibe with the ham and egg on top. our sides of cole slaw and sweet potato fries were spectacular. the slaw was creamy but the dressing had good bite, and the sweet fries were crispy, sweet, and pillowy in the middle. we sat at the bar and service was excellent- efficient and friendly, and we definitely felt welcome, and that our business was appreciated. my husband was impressed with the beer offerings, and i was happy they had something non-alcoholic for me (which isn't always the case). overall, we had a fantastic outing and will certainly be back. read more

Hadn't been here in a while and they were running a restaurant week special: any 2 beers on tap, any 2 burgers and any 2 whiskey shots all for $34.95, an excellent deal. This time the fries were cooked perfectly. I had a veggie burger with portobello mushrooms and a fried egg. My table guests were happy with nicely cooked medium rare specialty burgers, of which there are many choices. Or you can get creative and build your own. The oatmeal stout was a little too coffee flavored for my taste, but my tables guests were only too happy to drink it. Next time I will try the milk stout. read more

Wow these burgers were so good. They have great specials in the week for a burger and a beer and the food is huge. Onion rings- lots of dough fat onions not my fave but I'm sure someone will love em. Buffalo chicken dip- so good! Get it. With the homemade chips. Sweet potato fries are waffle style and the best side you can get. Don't bother with regular fries they aren't great. I had a burger whose name I forgot but it was so good. Everyone enjoyed their burger I don't think you can go wrong on that front. Pick whatever speaks to you and you can't go wrong. Went in for a bite to eat with my husband around 4:30pm on a weekday. We apparently came 30 mins before a shift change and the service was lackluster. We were left for 20-30 mins without being asked a food or drink order and it was almost empty. Food was good for a no frills bar. Took another 30 mins for someone to clear empty plates and we had to stop two separate people to get the check. I would come back for the food but make sure you sit at the bar to get better servic- being at a table sucked. read more

First time going there and the first person we saw was a waiter/greeter, whom we thought was inconsiderate. We asked to sit at a table and his response was that that table was for a bigger group (4 max), so we sat at the bar. My boyfriend and I looked around and saw 2 females sitting at a table of 4. Then a gentleman walks in alone, and sat at a table of 4. We took it offensive and believed it was because we were the only minorities there. I do really really really love the burgers and most of the food at The Abbey. However, their service is so horrendous (and keeps getting worse somehow) that I feel the need to take away one star. I went with a large group once and we asked for separate checks. I know this is kind of a pain in the ass thing to do, but you really shouldn't tell people no to that request (especially a group of regulars from the local college media with big mouths). They also would only let us use two cards for the transaction when it came time to pay the check. Obviously, the reason that we had all asked for separate checks in the first place was because most of us only had plastic, so this was a big problem. Some were able to get cash out of their ATM (for a fee), but then it went out of order. So one girl really got screwed on her credit card. It wasn't a fun night, and I know that a lot of those people swore that they would never go back (and most of them haven't). But I gave them another chance a year later. The food was tasty like I always remembered, and the drinks were strong. The waitress was nice at first, but then disappeared for a long time and seemingly forgot about us. We totally would have had another round after our meals, but whelp, we're old farts and it was getting late so we asked for the check. Go for a burger at lunchtime, and sit at the bar. I've learned now to just avoid this place entirely at night. read more

I am just not sure. I went for the burger and because they seem to get rave reviews from fellow Yelpsters. So the end result for me is that I will not be back. The burger was huge and I really enjoyed it. But I can find great burgers elsewhere where the place. So I was looking for that thing that made this place stand out besides a building. What I found was attentive wait staff that let empty glasses sit on the table. I also found what I think might be the most expensive glass of Guinness (very poorly drawn by the way) in Rhode Island. So, I am giving them 3 stars because I am trusting my fellow Yelpers that this truly was a one off bad night for the wait staff. The food was top notch and creative though. read more

This place has great burgers and very solid beer selection. I would bump this place up to 4 stars but I have 2 issues. The place is small and it makes it difficult to seat a party of 8. The other issue is the prices. I don't go in for lunch, because you try to grab a beer and a specialty burger and it is going to cost you at least 25 bucks with tip. I know they have a half price deal on the regular burgers on the menu, but it still adds up. I definitely recommend The Abbey. The burgers are very well crafted and the beer selection is excellent. Popped in for dinner on the suggestion of a friend - left 3 hours later...that pretty much sums it up... Decor is along the lines of American Pickers...not fancy, lots of tables, decent jukebox...Service was pretty attentive, ballgames on 5 TVs - parking is not as easy (read the signs for restrictions)...heavy on the PC crowd... A bevy of burger choices, so many so that making a decision is tough...runs the gamut from standard, classic burgers, to burgers with everything but the kitchen sink on them - want pulled pork and potato chips on your burger? Come to the Abbey... The beer menu is no joke either...good draught selections, massive bottled selection... And as mentioned on some other reviews, the potato chips with gorgonzola sauce are a must order... Best burger I've ever had? FANTASTIC!!! Two friends and I just celebrated a birthday here. I got the Macho Nacho with pasta salad, Birthday Boy got the Havana with tater tots, and our friend Cheryl ordered the Mushroom Burger with onion rings. We started off with a simple Nachos with cheese. EVERYTHING was absolutely delicious. Everything. I had been here a few times over the years, but not in a couple years. I have to say I was not dissapointed, and neither were my friends. They were amazed at how good the burgers were, and how plentiful. Came here on a whim from Yelp after running errands this morning. I really enjoyed the pun atmosphere and reminded me and my girlfriend of our time in England based on the decor. The televisions they have up are very nice and they've setup them up correctly based on what they show here (sports). They have a lot of beer brands posted everywhere and they have my favorite, Stella Artois! Quite certainly burger place. I loved the burger I got, it was very tasty and I thought that the wait staff was pleasant and helpful, although we didn't really ask them a lot or have TOO much interaction with them, so there's that. My girlfriend was not overly fond of her food, but she's willing to chalk that up to picking the "wrong burger." And her teas came out inconsistently strong, which I thought was a little odd, but they all tasted fine. I really like this place a lot and I think I'd come here regularly and try all the different beers, especially for a game, but I think I'm not the only one. read more
