We had a Sweet Deal certificate that was about to expire so we headed over to Bar 101 for dinner last night. They have specials almost every day & on Thursday, it is buy a pizza & get one 50% off, $5 red or white sangria. So that's what we did! Hubby was in the mood for an appetizer & he selected the calamari alla mama with sauteed garlic, tomatoes, hot peppers over a bed of arugula & a side of marinara. I didn't love the calamari rings so I had several & let him go to town on the dish. He very much enjoyed all the garlic & hot peppers, especially with it dousing the arugula underneath. He literally ate every bite! Hubby wanted a meat pizza so he selected the classic cheese with the pepperoni add-on. I opted for the prosciutto & arugula. Both were delicious! The crust was super thin & crispy, the toppings went all the way to the edge. If I was going to nitpick, it would only be to say that we love our pepperoni with a little char & some cupping action. Hubby opted for a Peroni & I went with the red sangria (no ice). Both were delightful! We had a rotating cast of servers & all of them were lovely. My husband and I ate here today and enjoyed our experience and will return! We tried the cheeseburger sliders, chicken Parm sandwich, steak and cheese eggrolls, and enjoyed all of them. Another spot we hit for the first time and another nice gem. Walk in the doors and there's something just inviting about it, it's funny, kind of hard to pinpoint but you just want to go sit at the bar. Mind you, plenty of spots if the bar isn't your thing. Kind of your classic bar decor, plenty of TVs making it a cool spot to watch a game. We did choose the bar, was moderately busy, but our bartender was quick to greet us, get us menus and drink list, so was instantly impressed. I went with a standard Moscow Mule which was made quickly and accurately, refreshing! Wife had the sangria and enjoyed it immensely. Your drinks do not remain empty long, our bartender, wish I got her name, she was fantastic. Frankly, you could tell all the servers were personable and on their game. The food, very good! Landed on the chicken parm sub, delicious! House marina, mozzarella and perfectly cooked chicken, I mean it is really good, with hand cut fries that are surprisingly delicious, Wife had the steak n cheese and really enjoyed it. My Buddy and I had a great time at Bar 101. Food was really good. We started off with the Garlic Parm wings and they were very tasty. Next came the Steak & Cheese Egg rolls which were our favorite. I had a very tasty Chicken Ceaser Salad. Chicken was delicious! My friend had the Shrimp Tacos and enjoyed them. Beers were cold and the 2 bar tenders were super friendly. I'm going back. Went with my friend on a Saturday night. It was freezing out so some drinks and comfort food were an order. Since it was before 9 pm they had a selection of $5.00 martinis and we both chose the Lemon Drop. The bartender made it perfectly. We decided to split the short beef grilled cheese and an order of pink vodka penne with grilled chicken. Both were excellent. I'll definitely return again to try more in their menu. read more

I have been a regular at this bar for at least 10 plus years. It's very laid back and the staff is very welcoming. You will often see the owner Pete making his way around to say hello and ask how everything is. I'm not sure when the transition occurred exactly but they acquired a new chef who is excellent. The menu is no longer your typical bar food. There's many options to choose from. I brought a friend in with my tonight who is gluten free and she was very pleased at how many options she had to choose from. She said it was pretty much double from what she is typically offered. We both got the penne alla vodka (here with gluten free pasta) and our other friend got the Asian stir fry. Everything was excellent. I've honestly had a better pasta dish here for $14 than I have at various other Italian restaurants where I've paid $10 more for the dish. The bar also offers a lot of weekly specials. Monday's they have sliders and 1/2 priced martinis, Tuesday's is taco night, Wednesday .50 cent wings and tenders, Thursday but one pizza get one half off, and Friday 1/2 priced apps between 4-6. As far as some other negative reviews, the staff here is not rude. This is a comfy neighborhood bar with a lot of regulars. A nice place to enjoy some comfort food in Johnston. Granted it has the feel and vibe of a sports bar more than anything else, but the food was enjoyable, and the spirit of the place was real upbeat. We started with the 'Steak and Cheese Eggrolls' which had a surprisingly good taste on their own, as the 'Chipotle Ketchup' was something we did not like. Then I had the 'Sirloin Burger' which was cooked to order and served on a nice roll and seasoned well. My husband went all out since he was really hungry and next had the 'Black Bean Chili' which had its own great vibe as it is not a traditional chili. He finished with 'Lasagna' as it was a daily special and that was a bit more common in taste and presentation. They advertised other specials throughout the week and we may try some of those in the near future. Good food. read more

Whatever This bar is one of those soulless modern bars with no personality or charm. The worst part is that I've tried to go in a bunch of times and the place is never open. Horrible music, bartenders who don't know how to pour drinks, stuck up girls, unfriendly vibe, and a weak draft beer selection. Pretty much everything I hate in a bar. I was told about this place so I wanted to check it out for myself and I wasn't very pleased. There was one worker doing everything. He was working the bar and the tables , I felt so bad he was all over the place. Bringing food out to people and making drinks , it was a mess. Although he was very sincere. This place is very small , and the parking could be a tad bit of a hassle since it's right off of Atwood ave in a plaza. I'm not sure if they serve too many drinks to people here but there were lots of drunk people in this bar , and it was not like quiet drunk they were belligerent and excessive. They shouldn't have been getting more drinks. I didn't like the place at all not my cup of tea , I got the spiked apple cider , even that wasn't good it tasted like watered down Apple cider and nothing else. My fiancé got pulled poem nachos and he loved them so that's why I gave 2 stars and because the sever was good and friendly even though he was doing everything. The food is fantastic everything from the pizza to the salads are incredible. The food is above and beyond typical bar food and it won't put a hole in your pocket. The prices are VERY reasonable! They also have great deals/specials nearly every night of the week. Monday is $1 Build a Burger- and it is a delicious 1/2 pound burger!! Where else can you get anything for a $1!?!?! Wednesday is .25 cent wings- a customer favorite & there are so many different flavors (Buffalo, BBQ, Asian Sweet Chili, & Thai Peanut to name a few!) On Thursday's they have $5 martini's! Bar 1O1 has- HANDS DOWN- the best martini's! Great drink menu. Came into Bar 101 for my first visit to Johnston. As we were walking into the bar i noticed that the Jersey Shore was playing on some of the TV's which i thought was very appropo considering it's located in Pauly D's hometown. We got to pick our own place to sit and the waitress came over promptly to ask for drinks. My balsamic chicken wrap was great and i got some of the best onion rings i've ever had in RI. The service was great, and the bartenders/ servers were very attentive. The only thing i didn't like was the napkins they gave us which got lint all over me. My black shirt was covered in little lint pieces which i was unable to get off until i got home later that night. They have 25 cent wings on Wednesdays (which aren't really my thing) and great deals for food/drink during football games. They also have trivia on Monday nights which i thought was pretty cool too. read more

Went to Bar 101 for my first time a few weeks ago, and was pleased with my experience. Even though it's a small bar, it has a decent amount of seating, and a fun and young environment. The bartenders were very nice, and eager to give suggestions. I had a beer which was typical, but I was very impressed by the food. I went on a Wednesday when they do 25 cent wings, and they were delicious. I got the Bar 101 wings which were a mix of barbecue, buffalo, and honey mustard and they were delicious. I also had a buffalo chicken wrap which was good as well. Overall, I would rate this as a good place to grab a beer or a quick bite to eat. read more

If you live anywhere in the vicinity of Bar 101 you should be visiting at least weekly if not multiple times a week. Actually, if you don't live in the vicinity you should make it a destination. The menu is fantastic from A-Z. Additionally there are always a handful of mouthwatering specials available. The fish and chips and chowder are an absolute must have! You know when you order a cup of chowder and there's like four potatoes and a clam or two? Well this is the exact polar opposite of that. Not only is it loaded with fresh clams but it's probably about the tastiest white chowder I've ever had. No joke. Another go to is the steak wrap. Off the charts good and the fries are perfection. Wings, pizza, boneless tenders... all A's. Don't get me started on the service either. I could shout out the entire staff. Justin is the man behind the bar. Owners Pete and Jamie are always around and make every patron feel at home. Oh yeah forgot to mention the nice selection of draft beers and my favorite... Bourbon. Place is gem. We came here for a friend's 40th birthday party and to watch the Patriots game. The space may be in an unassuming strip mall, but it is great. There were several TVs and a giant screen on the wall for watching the game and there was plenty of table space for our party. The food was delicious. Several types of pizza, egg rolls, salt and vingear wings, jalapeño poppers, dumplings, and more. The bartender/owner, Justin, was super attentive and made some kick ass drinks.
