Texas pecan and curds

RI Food Fight- Lord of the Wings 2025 Review: Back at the Coop with my wing coupon in hand. Thoroughly intrigued by the Texas pecan dry Rub. Ordered well done and it was cooked just right. Please keep in mind- I DO NOT like dry rubs. I then find the wings to be dry. This flavor is the best dry rub I have ever had! It's a great balance of a lite bbq flavor but a little nutty. I would suggest giving it a go. Nice waitstaff (even set me up with a little taste of that dry rub before ordering.) My only gripe- it was cold inside! I don't like being cold.

Fried Ravioli

Who knew Johnston had good fried chicken? This is what I discovered last night when I ate at The Chicken Coop. I came here as a part of my hunt for the best wings in RI, using coupons from the RI Food Fight event: Lord of the Wings. The place is on the smaller side, but they make the most of it with a large table in the middle and some two tops scattered along the wall. The high ceilings mean this place can get a little noisy while people are there enjoying themselves, however I was still able to have good conversation with the friend who went with me. I loved the chicken and beer decor on the walls, and there are three TV's behind the bar if you want to come by and check out the game. We got the Fried Ravioli to start. It was excellent. The breading was just the right texture, the filling was well seasoned, and the marinara was the perfect tang to balance it all out. Quite a satisfying crunch when you bite into it. For my wings, I chose Korean Sesame. The presentation was the prettiest I've seen this month by far. You can tell the pride they have in their food by how this was presented. While I wish the skin was a bit crispier, I really enjoyed these wings. About average size in the meat department, but still absolutely juicy and flavorful. The Korean Sesame sauce is what teriyaki sauce wishes it could be. Savory, the umami of the sesame comes through. I loved the garnish sprinkled on top, it added a delightful texture that took it to the next level. My friend ordered the chicken and waffles and was kind enough to let me try it. I loved the crunch of the chicken tenders and the waffles were tasty as well. It further proved to me, they really know their stuff here. We ended the meal with a dessert on special, Fried Dough. It was fine. The dough was fried perfectly and it had the right amount of powdered sugar to not be messy. But it wasn't as good as the appetizer or the wings. Overall I find I will be adding The Chicken Coop to my list of places to recommend to people in the state. And since they're open for lunch and dinner every day, I'm sure I'll find my way back here soon for lunch the next time I'm in the area. I'm already looking forward to the next meal here.

In Johnston, where strip malls and residential neighborhoods weave together in that distinctly New England patchwork and everyone seems to know your cousin's name, there's a place that doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. The Chicken Coop Kitchen & Bar is a testament to that particularly New England brand of honesty - the kind that comes without fanfare or pretense. Maybe the worst name for a place that's this good, or maybe the best because it makes you have to explain how good it is. The spot, designed by owners Tonya Antonelli and Meliza Ferruolo from the bones of an old Wings-to-Go takeout, became something authentic under their watch. An L-shaped bar stretches through one room, seating fifteen locals comfortable enough to claim their regular spots. The adjacent dining room offers a different experience for families and groups, creating a perfect balance between sports bar energy and family restaurant warmth. This isn't a place where food critics come to wax poetic about microgreens or debate the merits of imported truffle oil. It's where real people - office workers, healthcare staff, small business owners, teachers, and families - come to break away from the grinding machinery of everyday life. The kind of place where a properly done burger isn't just lunch; it's a pleasant escape, a small victory over the day's events. The interior tells its own story - whitewashed brick walls with an eclectic mix of vintage signs and local memorabilia, while multiple TVs keep the games running. The space strikes a balance between sports bar energy and comfortable dining spot, with butcher block tables and high-tops creating natural, relaxing space to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. But it's the details that catch your eye - the wagon wheel mounted on the wall, the glow of neon signs, the chalkboard menu with daily specials. The toasted ravioli, dusted with parmesan and fresh herbs, comes with a marinara that actually tastes like someone's Johnston grandma might have had a hand in it. Their chicken and waffles comes in very hot - golden-brown fried chicken sitting on fresh waffles, with thick-cut bacon draped across the top like a sash at a beauty contest. It's the kind of dish that makes nearby tables pause their conversations and take notice. Their fried chicken lands all of the fundamentals - a thin, crisp coating that actually sticks to the meat, with a subtle briny tang that tells you they know what they're doing. Each piece comes out juicy without being greasy. Simple, properly executed fried chicken that lets you know these folks understand what matters in a kitchen. The waffles nail it - crisp edges with a tender middle that holds up under the chicken and bacon. Each bite gives you that perfect mix of crunchy and soft, with the thick-cut bacon adding a salty richness that cuts through the waffle's sweetness. Their coffee-infused maple syrup brings another layer to the plate, adding a savory depth that ties everything together. What really sets The Chicken Coop apart isn't just what's on the plate - it's the thoughtful touches that most places wouldn't bother with. The bathroom is stocked like your most organized friend's medicine cabinet - mason jars filled with mints and necessities, a wire basket neatly arranged with everything from feminine products to tissues, toothpicks and flossers, all presented with the same care they bring to their table service. These aren't the choices of people just running a business; they're the choices of people building a neighborhood institution. The wings here tell a story of a kitchen that's not content with the usual Buffalo-and-BBQ routine. Sure, they do the classics, but when you see Mango Habanero on the menu, you realize these ladies are pushing beyond the safe harbor of standard wing joint territory. It's about executing the classics with respect and consistency, but also trying to bring something new to your table. In Johnston, like many towns wrestling with identity in a chain-restaurant world, places like The Chicken Coop are important. They're where communities are maintained, where stories are shared over cold beers and hot plates. They've created something genuine here- a place that understands exactly what people want and need and they deliver it.

If you're looking for a place that serves up finger-lickin' good wings and a side of competitive brainpower, The Chicken Coop is the spot to be! Their chicken wings are crispy, saucy, and packed with flavor. You can get a tangy, spicy, sweet or somewhere in between sauce with finger lickin' flavor. Service was attentive, the beer was good and a side of chili was delicious. And if stuffing your face with wings isn't entertaining enough, their trivia contest adds a bit of fun and friendly rivalry. It's the kind of game where you come for the fun but leave with a burning desire to finally remember who won the 1996 World Series next time. Delicious food, great atmosphere, and a little intellectual workout to balance out the wing-induced food coma--what more could you ask for? The Chicken Coop is a must-visit for wing lovers and trivia buffs alike!

Now that is a Chicken Sandwich! Really glad I stopped in here on a late Saturday afternoon. The bartender was the server and she was great. She appeared to be the only server handling both the bar area and the seating area. She was spot on with her service. She was spot on with her recommendation of The Coop, their chicken sandwich. The chicken was super moist and the breading was excellent. The brioche bun was also great. I paid the $2 up charge to add the Onion Rings. So glad I did. The rings were cooked perfectly ( or at least just like I like them, just a bit crisp). I will definitely be back, there are a number of other items I want to try, but it will be tough to not get The Coop again.

Special chicken sandwich with maple buffalo cheddar cheese and bacon

AMAZING. This was the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. I noticed the special on the chalkboard and knew I had to have it. Fried chicken with maple buffalo sauce, cheddar cheese and super crispy bacon. It was a little sweet and a little spicy- the perfect combination. We also got an order of hot buffalo wings and buffaque wings. The hot came with HOT CHEETOS sprinkled on top, how creative! The wings were perfectly cooked and flavors were spot on. I can't wait to go back and try other flavors. Our waitress/bartender was great super friendly and knowledgeable, she told me the special was fire and it sure was!

Thai peanut chicken wings

RI Food Fight - Wings 2024: Got the Spicy Thai peanut and Texas pecan wings. The spicy Thai peanut was very flavorful and delicious. The Texas pecan wings were a touch sweet but otherwise not very exciting. Ended up dipping the Texas pecan wings into the remaining spicy Thai peanut sauce to be honest. Service was a bit slow for Saturday lunch so the nachos were unfortunately a bit cold by the time it came out.

Wow... great place. I will be back. Great food and great service by Kayla. We just had two appetizers; Buffalo boneless wings & Steak/ cheese egg rolls. Both were delicious!

This is a super cute neighborhood spot to grab a drink and some food. We went for lunch today and had the whole place to ourselves. We ordered some wings, which were really good and we loved the chicken and waffles plate. The slider trio was very basic, which made the house made chips the start of that dish. Our server wasn't very chatty with us, but we heard her light up when she was taking a phone order from a regular. They have both food and drink specials posted on the various chalkboards on the walls, and even host a trivia night, which sounds like fun!
