"Dad, I want to go back for Father's Day." We had not visited the Adventure Park in 8 years. We are fortunate enough to live 15 minutes from the park. When our daughters were younger it was a go to place for them and their friends. But the girls got older and their interest declined. I'm not sure what motivated my daughter want to go back but I'm glad we did. We went yesterday one day before Father's Day. My daughter chose this day because we went on Father's Day years ago and it was extremely crowded. Good plan. Not too crowded. Great weather too. Our experience we great. The staff was terrific. I have never gone to one of these adventure parks before so for my first time - it was AMAZING ! I took my niece who is 9 for her birthday and she had the time of her life - I was seriously impressed by the challenges in the courses and with how bravely she tackled them! We were very high up in those trees! The great thing though is that they have courses for all different types of thrill seekers - if you want to stay low to ground or just zip line, they have courses for that. If you want to physically challenge yourself or you like heights - they have courses for that as well. Safety wasn't a concern as there is an orientation video and then a practice course on the ground so you can repeatedly go through the process of locking on to a line and moving from line to line. I mean my niece did the practice course once and was off into the trees with out issue. There is a nice picnic area with tables so you could easily pack a lunch or snacks and make a day of it. Came back to Adventure Park with my daughters (10 and 12). This time I was going to join in. For first timers I highly recommend you read their website for all that you need to know in advance before going. Closed-toe shoes are a must and gloves are highly recommended. You don't have to buy their gloves. If you have gardening gloves or weight lifting gloves those will do. Also there is a video regarding putting on the harness and clipping/unclipping. It looks a little intimidating but don't let that scare you. When you get there you have to watch the video again, they will help with the harness, and then you get to practice the clipping/unclipping and ziplining in a practice area to help you get comfortable with it before going to the higher elevations. Adventure Park also allows kids as young as 6 years old to participate in the aerial adventures whereas some other places (like Go Ape) require kids to be 10 years old. There are a number of different paths (or trails) that have different difficult levels. I stuck to the beginner and semi-beginner levels with my youngest and my oldest left us behind on the harder ones. It was so much fun but it was a workout. Though our ticket was for a 3+ hour timeslot we only made it to about 2.5 hours because we were worn out. There is lots of parking and they also have food trucks. If you're looking for an activity in the DMV area area that is not centered around food or alcohol, look no further! This a great activity for kids, but also thrill seeking and active adults. You will wake up sore the next day as you venture through the rope courses and zip lines. There is a difficulty level for everyone like all way to double black. As for me, I stuck to purple and yellow and made it through three courses in the three hours I was here. They have water stations throughout the park so no need to bring your bottle. Do wear tight fitting long sleeve clothing to minimize the chance for bruising and random cuts. If you just wanna bring the kids, there are a couple places to sit near the front. Today was an amazing day! My gal pals and I from work decided to have an adventure today! It was really nice! We had a wonderful time. The set up and move around is super easy! Once you get the hang of it. I am going to take my hubby here for sure! The staff was wonderful and very helpful. They also offer a military discount. There are also water points after all the areas. So no need to bring your own water source. I am sure this place gets packed on the weekend so when the hubby and I do go it will be during the week for sure! My neice and I love this place. Our favorite course is sprite because it has a bunch of zip lines. Snapdragon is nice and easy. Waterfall is HARD and requires a lot of upper body strength. Only down side to the park is the porta potty situation. read more

Highly recommend for dates, children, or hanging out with friends. it's a bit expensive to do ziplining and the adventure portion, but it's very diverse and good tracks. Especially in fall, the scenery was gorgeous this past weekend. There were families and groups chilling by the fireplace and everyone was very relaxed. My friends and I did axe throwing and it's cool how a projector sets up different games. It's kinda like bowling with axes. On one of my seven-year-old daughter's days off from school, she and I booked same-day tickets online easily and made the drive to Sandy Spring. Here's our experience. 1) Experience: The park itself is clearly marked and has a large dirt parking lot. A short walk, you'll see a food truck that sells pizza, drinks, ice cream, and more. Nearby are clean outhouses, an axe throwing place, a Little Free Library, and the check-in house with a gift house. Once you check in and fill out waivers (they text them to once you order tickets online), you'll go through a 10-minute safety briefing with a video. Then you'll gear up and do the actual safety check before going through a practice course. Note: There were many bugs in this area in June so bring spray! Next, we entered the main course with 14 different courses clearly marked based on difficulty level and for what ages. Climbing with an experienced seven-year-old, we started with the Yellow course and then went to the Green course. Each course has some ziplines and many different balance and other challenges. Going for two hours on the actual course, we completed three. There are misting stations, water stations, and exits for those who don't want to complete a course. 2) Price: It is over $150 for the two of us to go, but it's worth it for a fun spurge. There are 15 separate tree trails of different levels of difficulty, with the double black diamond being the most difficult. This is our 4th year taking our 8th grade class (about 60 students) for an outdoor ed experience at Adventure Park. Our students always tell us how much fun they had and how much they love it! The staff is helpful when we need them (especially with initial instructions and harnessing) but they also encourage everyone to be independent and work through challenges on their own. The different levels allow each person to choose a course he or she feels comfortable with - or one they want for a real challenge. Lots of zip lines, which are always popular, and plenty of climbing. I would recommend this to individuals as well as groups! read more

However, the zip line is very slack towards the ending I hurt my leg/knee when it jammed into the ground because the zip line was so low towards the ending tree. This place was so much fun. There are a lot of tree courses to explore and the night session was really fun with music and colored lights shining in the trees. The staff was extremely professional and helpful! A great place for a large group or your teens to hang out and do something fun. We didn't try the axe throwing but we will be back! Bring some leather gloves for your hands and some water. There was a food truck with delicious food (pizza/burger/chicken tenders) too. The bathrooms are portapotties so you may want to go before you go. But definitely check this place out. We will certainly be planning another trip. read more

Great fun for the whole family. At work we brought a group of kids here from our summer program and it was a blast. It was not a very long drive from Columbia. Arrived early in the morning right as they opened up so there was not any waiting. You first check in and have to watch a safety video. The next step is you get your climbing g equipment from the staff members and practice using it. The staff and very patient and friendly for first timers. They are more than willing to answer any questions you may have. After that you are free to climb at your own pack. They have a wide variety of different courses that vary in skill levels and difficulty. I recommend starting out with the easier ones to build your confidence. I also recommend bringing some gloves to climb with. You will be grabbing on to wires and ropes all day so if you don't want blisters you should bring a pair. They sell them on site for 7 dollars a pair. They have a good truck like concession stand on site with a limited menu. You are allowed to bring you own food and they have plenty of picnic tables you can dine at. Overall a great time. Plenty of summer camps were visiting on the day I went and they even had some groups of adults doing some team building exercises. Definitely not just for kids! I've done all sorts of adventure courses around the world, but this one is still plenty challenging!! It can be a bit frustrating when the lines get long but it's awesome how you can independently conquer the courses! Another thing they try to upsell you on protective gloves but they're so cheap they'll break on you before your even half way done for the day, so just bring your own or go without. Additionally, it'd be great if they could be able to add a water cooler one spot on a course, because they do have some on the ground but in the summer it gets so terribly hot it's a struggle to make it through. The one day I was there, I saw multiple people call for help to get down bc they were so dehydrated. My problem is they put me in the wrong sized harness. When I did a trial zip line, I told Their employee that it hurt. She said 'I don't know what to tell you, it's uncomfortable'. Shortly after that, I did the easiest course that ends in a zip line. when I tell you it was the most pain I've felt in my life, I am not exaggerating it. I got stuck half way and yelped in pain as I couldn't stand, I was hanging half way through and the harness felt like it was going to rip my crotch! My husband had to run, lift me up and push me towards the end of the course and I finally freed myself. I went back to the employees, told them my problem and one finally decided to put me in a different harness. I did three trials to make sure it didn't hurt. Then I spent the next hour in tears at the next course because I was too afraid of the pain to try again. I paid for three hours and barely used it for half hour - don't get me wrong. Variety of Skill Levels: 5/5 Safety Precautions: 5/5 Staff Friendliness: 5/5 Decor: 5/5 My group of 5 attended the Night Climbing -- Keep It Lit event. This occurs a few times a month it seems, and it is only available to adults 18+ between 6 PM and 11 PM. Upon arrival, there was plenty of parking. We were also about 5-10 minutes late for our reservation, and they accommodated us. With this night climbing event, you have about 2-3 hours of climbing/ziplining in this outdoor adult jungle gym with about 20 minutes of orientation. The safety video is about 8 minutes long, and it takes about 10 minutes for you to put on your equipment and get you ready to climb/zipline. They check your equipment to make sure that you are secured in properly. In addition, you are taken to a short introductory course to ensure that you know how to use the equipment in a hands-on/supervised format. The different course difficulties are: - Purple (easiest, beginner): cricket & firefly - Yellow (beginner with a little challenge): sunshine, sunflower, and snapdragon - Green (intermediate, wide variety of difficulty): jungle pass, fern gully, forest run, mountain trail - Blue-Green (intermediate ziplining): sprite - Blue (advanced, physically challenging): riptide, waterfall - Black (advanced, physically intense): black storm - Double Black (physically challenging): gauntlet The harder courses (blue-green and beyond) closes 1.5 hours before the park closes (11 pm). So, if you want to try out these courses, I highly recommend tackling them first and then going back to the easier courses if you are confident with your skills. In the 3.5 hours we were there (from 8 pm to around 11:30 pm), we had finished two green courses: fern gully and forest run. Being someone who terrified of heights, I definitely do think that these courses are doable if you have people supporting you and encouraging you to keep going. The fern gully trail had the most ziplines in the park, while the forest run was the longest green course that had a more balanced element. I ended up losing my phone on the green course (forest run) since it was in my pant pocket and fell out while I was ziplining. A staff member ended finding the phone and placed it with the staff members at the main center. I recommend bringing a small crossbody/waist fitness bag with you to store your valuables or wearing clothes with larger pockets and a zipper. For me, of the two courses I had tried out, the fern gully was harder for me since some of the paths were a little more challenging for me. There was one path in particular (a twisted bridge) that I absolutely dreaded and was terrified on. The key for the twisted bridge obstacle course is to think of it as a single rope line rather than keep on twisting/untwisting it. Tip: if you're active duty military, you could also call the place to receive a ~5$ military discount. If you also get tired, there is a fire pit outside for you to sit around and enjoy! This is definitely a highly recommend date night place (especially when the dark hits and lights illuminate the place) or a group gathering plan with some friends. It is well worth the $50-55 we had spent, and I felt secure throughout the entire obstacle course. With their variety of different pathways, I am definitely a returning adventure seeker! read more

My three children and I attended the Glow in The Park for a night adventure and it was super exciting and most definitely a challenge for me, specifically with the heights. Only while I was in the process of completing The Green tree climbing, zip lining obstacle I discovered that i should've been on the Beginners course. So, this only proved to myself how much of a Rock Star I truly am because I've lived to talk about it. My sister and I are in our 30s, and we LOVE this place! I have a tremendous fear of heights, but that doesn't seem to kick in when I'm strapped into a harness and always hooked to something. The rope courses are fun, unique, and creative. The zip lines scattered throughout are my favorite part! You really feel like a bird flying from tree to tree. The scenery in the woods is beautiful, and there never seems to be a dull moment. I also love that there are a variety of "trails" that vary in difficulty, so you have plenty of options and can start out on something easy if you're a little intimidated! I don't think I have the strength or endurance for the tougher courses, but the beginner/intermediate trails are enough for me! The harness system and hooks that connect you to the ropes seem very confusing as first, but it's incredibly easy once you actually practice it hands-on. The staff here have also always been very friendly and helpful! They are really on top of safety and are patient with you if you're confused about putting on your harness or using the hook system. I've been here 3 times, and they always provide a very positive experience! Can't wait to go back! read more

Holy moley, this place has thought of everything! Parking is plentiful and the entire place is so comfortably inviting! Check-in at the gift shop was easy. They then direct you to an instructional area to wait, where you are then ushered to a Screen that plays an instructional video for you. They then assist you into harnesses and run you through a small practice course to get a hang of the carabiner clips. The course is delightfully fun! They break out trails of varying age, skill, and strengths. My favorite part was looking out past the trees and realizing I was overlooking an open field with beautiful horses. String lights adorn the entire area. Clean port-o-johns with fancy portable hand wash stations (with sensors!). Plentiful picnic tables both shaded or without cover. An awesome little food truck with loudspeakers that announce the person's order. A tiny free library. And let's not forget about the axe-throwing stations! This entire park is well-kept and well-loved. We look forward to coming back. read more

We had booked tickets for the Keep It Lit 18+ event. It's an at night experience complete with music. It was so much fun. I'm terrified of heights, but once you are on the courses it's nothing to be afraid of! You are locked in the whole time and feel safe. My only complaint would be that there were some people under 18 there, but it's didn't detract from the experience, it's just an observation that the over 18 event was not actually over 18 only. The location was a bit hidden but once we got to the location we were fine. We definitely recommend going towards the evening because at night they have all the lights on and it creates a great atmosphere. We do recommend leaving everything in the car. We took our phones but put them in a secure location (ladies: your bra/ men: pockets with zippers) It was very helpful after the informative video that we were able to actually practice before going on the trails. You got to apply what you learned, hands on. Some of the obstacles are more challenging for others. However, there was a nice blend of trails ranging difficultly levels. We did purchase the gloves, which I would recommend. Definitely wear shoes that have grip. If you get to scared or nervous they do have places in the obstacles that you can climb down and start another trail from the beginning. Overall, pay attention to the video, the more you do it, the easier it gets. read more

It was my second time going to an outdoor rope course, and it was much better but much harder than the last. They ensure that you're informed on how to keep yourself safe during the different courses. All of the staff is very friendly and helpful, and are ready to help whenever. They have many courses and they are balanced well too. Some are super easy for little kids, while others like the double black would be really hard for anyone to do. I went on a yellow to begin, which was a good starter. Then on a green which was nice, but I only got on half of it because the rest was closed for maintenance. Then onto the blue one named Waterfall. Which was so hard, but it was a nice challenge I got so close to finishing it but my acquaintance stopped so I did as well. My family and I had an outstanding time! My wife and two teenage sons spent time on the beginner and intermediate courses. The obstacles are a lot of fun, there's plenty of courses so as to avoid any kind of bunch up behind other climbers. STRONGLY recommend gloves of some sort. Fingered or fingerless, just mark sure you bring gloves or you can purchase them there. Despite all the wood obstacles, you'll spend a lot of time grabbing the metal support lines. As a first-timer I tried the single black diamond course at the end of my day. I was whipped about 3/4 of the way through that obstacle course. By the end my hands and arms were stiff. As for safety, the briefing and practice course were good reminders of how to lock and unlock. Locking and unlocking takes some getting used to but once down, is a nice way to ensure no slips from 40 feet up! My wife purchased tickets during a Christmas special, without that I'm not sure we would have spent the money for all four of us to go. My youngest son compared this park to Tree Trekkers in Monrovia and said this place is WAY better! read more
