My boyfriend and I were recently…read morevisiting family in Denver, and while in Colorado we decided to wander down towards Pikes Peak for some extra adventure. The Rocky Mountain Lodge was one of the first lodging options that popped up in my internet search, and, being on a tight budget, we mainly picked it because of the excellent price! Little did we know what a treat we were in for. The evening we arrived in Cascade, a long, winding, dark road led us up to this inviting lodge, bedazzled with magical Christmas lights and warmly-lit lanterns. In the office next door we found the innkeepers, Debbie and Brian, who happily greeted us and showed us around. The Lodge itself is amazing -- a wonderful and cozy building in excellent condition, with lovely rustic decor everywhere you turn. Already impressed with the place, we were pleasantly surprised to find there was a hot tub running outside (which we took advantage of, despite the cold November temperatures!) Our room was wonderful as well -- every last detail was attended to. Such a great place for a relaxing mountain getaway. I thought I was done with this review, but I nearly forgot about our complimentary breakfast. TO. DIE. FOR. Being the only two guests dining that morning, Debbie personally served the two of us an incredible three-course breakfast, with such accoutrements as homemade Devonshire cream, lemon curd, and peach preserves, made with locally-grown fruit. Delicious! It's awfully hard to have a bad day after dining on great food in such a serene setting, with such pleasant hosts. Thank you Brian and Debbie! Looking very forward to staying at the Rocky Mountain Lodge again.

There's a big pool and hot tub inside the building. I loved that there was a jacuzzi in our room. My only critique is that the big fireplace in the lobby didn't work! That would've been a nice touch.

As others have noted, sites are on top of each other and the park seems to cater to families with little camping experience. Seriously, if nothing else is available, stay in a motel.

The tent campsites are right on top of each other. Our picnic table was right next to our neighbor site's picnic table; you can share a meal with your stranger neighbor if you wish. The stall doors in the bathroom are comically short; they were cut to about knee height when sitting on the toilet so that your junk is at risk of exposure while you're sitting on the toilet. The campground is also RIGHT off the highway so you go to sleep to loud traffic noise and wake up to it, too. It also backs right up to a residential area, so you can look at the back of folks' houses and hear their dogs bark through night. There were roosters to wake you up in the morning, too (ngl I kinda liked that part). My husband and I are avid hikers and campers, so we've seen a lot of campgrounds. This is my least favorite, right after one of the KAOs in Virginia. During our stay, I playfully dubbed this place "the trailer park of campgrounds," and before you come after me, I grew up in a trailer park (so I would know!). If you need a convenient place to stay, it will do. It's a place to sleep. But if you're wanting privacy, space, and quiet (you know, the things people go tent camping for), then you'll want to go elsewhere.

Secluded and peaceful location. Creative use of space inside the locomotive with every inch being used to its full potential. Board Games and movies were plentiful within the unit along with a smart tv which amplified the entertainment offerings. Stunning bathroom plus a separate claw foot tub in the bedroom area. It was clean, comfortable, and everything we could have hoped for. It's also walking distance to a wine bar that offered an array of food options and old fashioned flights. I would recommend this air bnb to anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle but still have adventure and experiences within a short drive.

My wife always wanted to stay in a caboose and since her birthday was coming up, I booked us in for a weekend. And I pretty much won the weekend. The inside is beautifully decorated and painted. You have TV and DVD (there are some movies to chose from), wireless, coffee and tea along with creamer and sweeteners, eating utensils, a dorm fridge/freezer--basically everything a hotel would give you, only a little more and of nicer quality. We had our own private hot tub off the back of the caboose Lynda, the owner, was fabulous, and helped us out with dining suggestions, even keeping us apprised of weather and potential flash flooding warnings. We followed her recommendations and weren't disappointed. I highly recommend the breakfast as well. We were greeted at our door in the morning to mimosas, then bacon and eggs, and a delicious type of fresh fruit tart/pancake. I'm already dreaming up reasons to come back in the winter as I'm certain it'll be even more cosy.
