We have seen pictures and we have heard stories about the Amish way of living. However, we could't imagine how it really was until we took the Amish Experience Visit-In-Person Tour. I strongly recommend it and we would like to experience it again. The tour is divided in three activities and each one of them is equally touching. Our teenage son enjoyed the cow dairy experience the best, as it was done by a 14 year old boy, who was very sweet and my son could relate to him. My husband and I were very moved by visiting an Amish family in their home and having a conversation with them. How many times do we "the English" get that opportunity??!! Our family was Mike and Mary Fischer, and their two darling small daughters. Mike and Mary opened their heart to us and were very open about sharing their way of living. They mostly wanted to ask about our lives. We immediately felt warm feelings towards their candid and sweet ways. Our tour guide, Art, a retired school teacher, was funny and very knowledgeable. The drive in the comfortable van was so beautiful, going thru this pretty country side of the Amish, flanked by their manicured farms, silos, barns, and homes. My husband and I purchased a super saver ticket. First we went on the bus tour. Our driver was Daniel and he was excellent! Personable, knowledgeable and accommodating. I have hearing loss and need to lipread so I was given the front seat on the bus so that I could do some misreading. Not perfect, but appreciated. The next part was the theater. It is a beautiful and creatively done show but it is absolutely inaccessible to any hard of hearing or deaf person. There are no captions, nothing printed on paper, no loop system. At a minimum they could have warned people about this so that they can pick and choose what works and doesn't work for them. I left the theater and spoke to the manager. He admitted he had no idea what a loop system is. Since I bought a super saver ticket he was willing to give me $5 back. The next part is a house tour and the guide made sure to have me next to him so I could lipread. I suppose I could give 4 out of 5 stars because everything else was great. But when you have to fight for accessibility almost every day of your life, you just get sick and tired of it read more

Very commercial. The theater was wonderful and we enjoyed the replica school/ house tour. The bus tour is a mistake unless you don't have your own car. They were extremely rude to us - after seating large groups on the buses - they tried to seat couples and a parent with a child in separate locations on the bus. Because we didn't agree to this ridiculous arrangement we were treated shabbily. Regret that I paid for and sat through this experience. Had a free ticket for a buggy ride but no-one would talk to me when I went to check in and everyone was complaining about waiting too long. Just went home. read more

We arrived 15 minutes before the ticket office opened on a very cold Thursday morning. Bill, a very nice employee took pity on us and let us in early. We purchased the Super Saver Package for $39.95 per ticket. We met the tour bus driver, who happened to be Bill the ticket seller at the bus. We started out with the 10:00AM Farmland Bus Tour (90 minutes) and was interesting and fun. The bus holds 14, but there were only 3 of us that particular day. We made a stop at an Amish woman's house and she invited us in. The purpose of the stop was, she was selling her handmade quilts. She spoke with the 3 of us and was very nice and explained to an extent the Amish way of life. The farmland was beautiful and we even came upon a farm where there was a wedding and quite a site with more than 150 buggies and horses parked in the field. Bill explained that it was the wedding season and weddings took place only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. After our bus tour (11:30 AM), we had a lunch reservation at the Plain and Fancy Restaurant on the property. The restaurant was empty at 11:30 AM and was full by Noon. We opted for the ala carte menu instead of the family style feast. We each ordered the fried chicken platter and Shoe Fly pie and were pleased with our choice. We also printed 10% discount coupons from the Plain and Fancy Farm Restaurant website prior to our visit. 1:oo PM (40 minutes), we went to the theater, multi screen production to see "Jacob's Choice", about an Amish teen who makes a choice of staying Amish or becoming English. 2:00PM (30 minutes), we did the 1 room school house tour and house tour. Our woman tour guide was very informative, but somewhat arrogant and condescending especially when asked questions. We had time for the buggy ride which was included in the package, but it was too cold. Everything is right there as far as the bus, theater, restaurant, school house and house. We enjoyed The Amish Experience and Bill was terrific and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in the Amish. read more

The school and home tour were pretty informative, and interesting. Not run by Amish people, though. Also, beware the store -- the rack of clothing by the front door had a sign about how nice it would be to take Amish handicrafts home, but the actual clothing was made in China. The store is quite large, but carries very little genuine Amish merchandise. read more

Jacob's Choice, the movie was incredibly cheesy. $9.95 for 30 mins of bad acting. We were told it was 45 mins long. I don't even think it was a full 30. Don't waste your time. read more

defiantly would suggest going here, the interactive theater (better than disney land) if i was able to i'd rate it a 6 out of five. the special effects were top notch and kept us on the edge of our seats the entire time. the theatrical smoke did not trigger any asthma attack which was GREAT. overall, the environment was great, the show was amazing, the special effects were a yes from many of me and my friends, and the decorations really added an amazing touch which made our experience much better. i would definatly recommend taking your family and yourself to this wonderful event. read more

We got the supersaver tour which included the bus ride, the theater and also asked for a buggy ride (they don't offer it to you if you don't ask for it). We were there for the whole afternoon and gave us a view of Amish Life. Very informative and loved visiting the farms and seeing the way of life. The bus ride took you to a lot more places and shops so you can buy your jams, baked goods, produce, quilts, and souvenirs from the Amish Stores. The movie was just informative - not meant to be entertaining. I liked it coz it shows me their core belief - their religious life, their principles, their values and the way they live. It is a farming based way of living and they live a very family oriented life with community to support that. It makes you admire their community and their devotion to their beliefs. Let me put it this way - it is not a Hollywood style film but if you want to go to a timeless place, this is the place. Don't forget to eat at the Plain and Fancy restaurant after the tours. The buggy ride is fun but can get dusty. It slows down everything when you ride the buggy and you can see more of the surroundings - houses, children playing, the horses chasing each other, the height of the corn, the colour of the tobacco leaves drying in the sun, the smell of new cut grass, the voices of the puppies playing in the yard, the clothes fluttering in the wind, the cars impatiently waiting to pass you by, the big buggies and a small child buggy passing by with little horses pulling them, the family cutting their corn in the fields and seeing how young the kids are doing it, the hard working people just making this community what it is. It is worth seeing this if you have time. The horse will smell a bit but that is fertilizer for the earth. read more
