Interesting store in the interesting and quiet suburb of Winter Park. The selection of straight and infused olive oil is impressive and you are able to sample them all. I purchased a bottle of the harissa infused oil. Definitely worth checking out if you like olive oil. read more

We absolutely loved this place! This is a foodie's heaven for sure. Not only can you try everything in the store (which we tried a lot), but the staff is really friendly and helpful. They have a list that makes pairings and have sizes from small to large. The larger bottles you buy once they are done, you wash it out and bring it back and they will refill for $1 off the price! We were walking along the Park Avenue shops and we spotted a neat little hidden path between shops. We explored and found The Ancient Olive. We were pretty excited when we first walked in because it is similar to an olive oil shop we have in downtown St. Petersburg, FL. We figured we would check out the goods and maybe buy a bottle or two, which normally ends up being three. Within a few seconds of us stepping in the store, a younger male employee said "can I help you?" Only it was said in more of a "what do you want?" manner. We said we were just looking. He said okay and walked off. We browsed the selection and decided we wanted to try one of the flavors. They had little sample cups laying out, just like the store back home. We grabbed a cup and poured a tiny amount into the sample cup to try. We both liked it and were thinking about buying a bottle when the same employee came up to us. He said something along the lines of "Remember. You need to use the sample bottles to pour samples from". We had used the spigots. Again, this was not said in the friendliest tone. It made us feel like we couldn't try anything else. How were we supposed to "remember" when it was our first time in the store? Maybe there were signs? If so, they were lost in the busyness of all the items laying around. It left a bad taste in our mouth and we decided to leave without making a purchase. The Ancient Olive definitely lost some business. We almost never leave a store like this without a purchase. I would recommend that they engage customers nicely and ask if they have ever been in before. If not, explain the policy. We probably wouldn't have returned regardless because we don't live in the area, but we definitely would have made a purchase that day. Friendly service can go a long way with small shops like these. read more

Love this place! You get to sample all of the oils and vinegars, so you know you'll love it before you buy it. My personal favorite is the lemon oil with raspberry vinegar....but the mango vinegar is also very drool-worthy. Staff is friendly and helpful, and often suggest new ways to use the products. They also sell a limited amount of various specialty kitchen items...I got a small crock for baked brie from here that's pretty fabulous. Worth noting - you get a very slight discount if you bring in your used (and cleaned) bottles from previous purchases to refill instead of getting a new bottle. read more

Although their name is ancient olive they have other things other than olive oil, they have different vinegars, pickled stuff they also have soaps and different types of creams. The soaps that they had there were all vegetable made and they smelled really nice. You can recycle the bottles that they give you, they give you a dollar back and you can refill the olive oil and purchase more of their products. Forget your preconceived notions of an olive oil shop. This place superseded my expectations. Beyond oils and balsamics, there is much to explore and enjoy. On a recent tour (with Orlando Food Tours), I sampled a few olive oils (the mango and blood orange mix was my favorite), and tasted a coconut curry rice (which wasn't too spicy or heavy on the curry), blueberry cheesecake with balsamic, a curry mustard dip, and, of course, some olives. Everything is available to purchase and sample, and the focus is definitely on local. You can pick up some Fat Cat Hot Sauces here too, along with some items from several local vendors. Very cute place hidden off the main street of Park Ave. If you are driving, you might miss the sign and alley to get there. This place is great for seasoned chefs and amateur cooks alike. There's several infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars to try. One of my faves is the Dark Chocolate balsamic vinegar. They recently added a space for meats and cheeses. The Marieke Gouda is worth trying. For those with less time or less cooking experience, they also have packages with soup ingredients where you add one or two items or seasoned pasta meals - just add water, specialty honeys for cooking or tea, and more. Also, a great place to grab items for gift baskets as well. read more

Two words: Blackberry Balsamic. There are so many fruity vinegar varieties here. Haven't tried the white balsamic varieties yet, but something tells me my first experience with them is in the not-so-distant future. Most of their red vinegars are so good, they really elevate the flavor of any salad or chicken/fish entree. My two favorite balsamics are Blackberry Ginger and Black Cherry. My wife recently discovered their Beekman 1802 Blaak Onion Jam, containing... yep, you guessed it... balsamic vinegar. What a great spread that jam is! read more

The employees are knowledgeable about every item on the shelves and willing to let you sample many of the products.Who knew pickle infused mustard would be so good. Sampling the oils here is like a fine wine tasting. They will give you tips on the best way to get the essence of the different varieties of olive oil. They are also willing to listen to your food interests and recommend products that will best meet your needs. I may never have stumbled across this location of The Ancient Olive without it being a stop on a food tour I was on. We were wondering how an olive oil store would fit a food tour, but pleasantly surprised and very impressed at the tastes they offered here using their products. It is set back in an adorable courtyard and definitely worth seeking out while in the area. In addition to the vast variety of oil and vinegar they have a nice selection of honey as well. Even if you are not on a tour, the employees will help guide you to pairings and you can learn about all the uses for the different products. Olive oil and vinegar is not just for spicing up salads anymore, but can be used for cooking in all kinds of dishes. Personally not a fan of the current trend of balsamic cocktails, but they will even share with you how to make these popular drinks and the mixes are available in the store as well. Once you select a product you enjoy, you can go online and find more recipes to learn how to use them in creative cooking. My favorite most unexpected way to use the blood orange oil was in a chocolate cake recipe that made this moist cake taste like those chocolate oranges so popular at the holidays. I came to the Ancient Olive after I tried one of their balsamic vinegars at a friend's home a while back. When I first entered the store, I was slightly overwhelmed not knowing where to begin. This didn't last long, though. The staff was extremely friendly, and we're there to answer any questions. They didn't hover, though, which is always nice. The prices were steep, but a there is nothing wrong with a great every once and a while. When you go, I recommend trying the coffee, dark chocolate, and the prosciutto balsamic vinegars. read more

I'm used to going to the Mount Dora Olive Oil Company where they happily blend garlic olive oil and butter olive oil for me. I decided to give the ancient Olive a try and Winter Park, spoke to an associate and told him what I was looking for he said they will not fix it for me, that Mount Dora is a completely different company and they will not do that even if I asked nicely. The only place I go to for my Olive Oil in the area. This place has very high quality olive oil of varying flavors as well as a variety of balsamic vinegars. From cooking oil, to salad dressings, to dessert toppings, you'll find it all here. The price is a bit higher than most grocery store oils, but the quality is way higher; overall, very reasonably priced. And if you bring your bottle back in for refills, they give you a bit of a discount. read more

The place is a gem... I love olive oil and this place has it all. What's more is the staff is very friendly and knowledgable. The prices are just right. A co worker recommended I check out The Ancient Olive, for great olive oil and vinaigrettes. It was interesting because they let you sample the olive oil and vinaigrettes. I purchased the Tuscan Herb Olive Oil and the Lavender Balsamic Vinaigrette. The employees are very helpful and knowledgeable.
