Bammy's is an old faithful in my book! I've been here several times over the years, and I've always had a consistently good experience. The staff are always friendly and make good conversation, and the drinks are always a good strength. Most recently, I tried one of the flavored margaritas and left very pleased! When I come here, I typically get the curry goat, which comes with rice, chickpeas, and potatoes. The most recent time I visited, the potatos were going to take a little longer to cook, so they offered me a choice between cabbage or greens instead. I went with the collard greens, and they were really good! They seemed to be cooked with a lot of butter, which was new for me when it comes to collard greens, but I still loved them overall. Bammy's is located in Navy Yard, so parking isn't always the easiest. But if you're able to snag a spot or you're already walking around the area, I definitely recommend stopping by! read more

As for the food, it was a big miss unfortunately. The cabbage was mushy. Decent taste though. The peas in the rice were hard and undercooked. The jerk chicken was cooked nice and moist. However, they put a mango sauce on top which maybe its me, but that was not the play. The beef patty was the best part of the meal but was one of the flattesr patties I've ever had. They're sitting at the bar and the tables. I noticed the bar seats have those little purse hooks under the table, which are nice for those so inclined. A great location with really great service. I ordered takeout and the food was ready on time but the waiter who brought it out made me want to sit down and eat at the bar! We had the spicy beef patties, jerk chicken plate, and the salt fish. Be warned, the jerk chicken is VERY spicy but also well flavored. All of the bites were really good. But I don't know that it's worth the price. Glad I finally had the chance to try this spot and it did not disappoint. I was skeptical about Caribbean food at the wharf, but the food was amazing. Glad they served us close to closing time BUT better service practices need to be displayed. Greeting hostess was friendly. Bartender said he was the manager as well but did not act as so. Left the bar for several minutes while fetching "free" food for friend. Meanwhile my guest and I were still waiting on to-go boxes we requested. I did order a second drink but never got it. At first, I thought the drinks were expensive and that's it. The oxtail was good, but now I won't be back because of this sneaky way of charging. If you're craving authentic Caribbean flavor and good vibes in DC, Bammy's is the spot. I guess if I went back for brunch two weekends in a row, my attendance can speak for itself. Both times I've visited Bammy's, I've been, first and foremost, so impressed with the staff. They genuinely go above and beyond to make sure you're comfortable, even starting with table placement. During my first visit, my group wanted to sit across the walkway near the bridge, and the team didn't hesitate. They came out and set everything up for us, including a speaker so we could still vibe to the music. When it started to rain, they quickly helped us relocate inside and made sure we were still enjoying ourselves. On my second visit, we tried to sit outside again, but the sun got the best of us (even after the staff worked hard to adjust the umbrellas). Once again, they graciously moved us inside without any issue. Major shoutout to Captain Dre--he was thoughtful, attentive, and brought the energy both times. Not to mention, he makes some of the best rum punch and truly adds to the overall experience. Food: On my first visit, I ordered the rasta pasta and LISTEN - it was full of flavor, had just the right amount of kick, and was a solid, satisfying comfort dish. On the second visit, I went with the jerk chicken which was also delicious. But the real star for me both times? The spicy beef patties. As I sit here writing this, I'm tempted to place a pickup order just for those. They're that good. People in my group also tried the seafood omelet and wouldn't stop raving about it. It's definitely next on my list. Drinks: If you're doing brunch, do not miss the rum punch mimosa--a blend of two great drinks that really packs a punch. I waited a while before posting this because I wanted to speak with the owner(s) directly about the matter rather than say anything publicly. I've attempted to make contact but haven't been successful. On Mother's Day, I visited Bammy's for brunch with several women in my family. We had a reservation and arrived to find only a few patrons seated outside and roughly half the tables occupied inside. We placed our food and drink orders at the same time with our server. Some of us waited between 30 and 45 minutes for our drinks to arrive. When food finally started coming out, it came in fragments. For example, one person received a plate of plantain and then waited another 40 minutes for the rest of her meal. The very last dish to arrive, after we had been there for at least an hour and a half, was a plate of scrambled eggs, which was the only thing aside from bread, that particular guest had ordered. We asked to speak with a manager once we were getting ready to pay and leave. When we brought up our concerns about the service (which, to be clear, was not the fault of our server) he explained the delays by pointing to how busy Mother's Day is. However, other parties who were seated after us had already been served and left, and the restaurant had thinned out considerably by that point. I stressed that slow service alone would have been understandable, but the bigger issue was that only about two out of our roughly ten guests actually received a complete meal. The manager stared at me blankly, and after a long silence I asked, "How do we rectify this?" As a former server and bartender myself, I expected at least some acknowledgment or apology. Instead, he responded with "What? You want some free food or something?" in a tone that implied we were just trying to get over. I asked for the general manager for the owner's contact information and I was provided with the general manager's email address. What made this experience truly disappointing was not the slow service, but the complete lack of accountability from management. Mistakes happen, especially on a busy holiday, but the way concerns are handled says a lot about a business. I think it could've used more curry flavor though. The stewed beef was tender, but my friend said the rice and peas were just ok. I had the sorrel ginger to drink.
