Stopped by Angus Barn for a quick dinner and it did not disappoint. This restaurant is near the airport if you are looking for a good place to eat before a flight out. When you arrive you'll enter the parking lot and have the option to either self park or valet. I went ahead and self parked as the parking lot wasn't too full. When you walk in you'll be transported back in time to a rustic feeling, fine dining, and country feeling (since the restaurant is in a barn) type atmosphere. We started at the bar on the second floor to have a drink and then grabbed a table. At the upstairs bar I ordered the Angus Barn Smoked Old Fashioned (Crafted with Angus Barn 65 Maker's Mark Private Selection and a special proprietary syrup, served tableside in a custom smoke box) which was very strong and a fun drink to order as it is served in a large smoke box. To grab our table we checked in with the host downstairs and were seated. Once seated the table had a complimentary dish of cheese and crackers which were surprisingly very good. For an appetizer we ordered the Wagyu Philly Cheesesteak Eggroll (Wagyu beef egg roll filled with mushrooms, onions & smoked cheddar served with a truffle garlic aioli) which were high quality and pretty heavy. The order comes with two egg rolls cut in half just as an fyi. For my entree I ordered the 22 oz bone in Royal Ribeye and upgraded the side to Mac & Cheese. Each steak is served with either soup or salad and a side. I went with the French onion soup instead of the salad. The French onion soup was very tasty and had a good amount on Gruyère cheese and bread. Additionally the ribeye was excellent and the garlic butter on the side was a nice touch. For dessert I ordered a crème brûlée which was a perfect way to end the meal. I'm looking forward to checking out the Angus Barn during the Christmas holiday season as I hear it is beautiful. Looking forward to stop in later this year for another great meal.
This place has so much character and the food is delicious. You need to expect a barn theme and classier roadhouse vibes but the food is excellent and so is the service. Ask to see the dessert table! We visited while my grandparents in town and their next visit they asked to go again. Definitely a crowd pleaser! We are dying to go at Christmas time because they decorate so extravagantly.
The Angus barn is an NC staple. A fantastic menu and incredible atmosphere welcomes you in. Fantastic service and delicious food make you thrilled to come back! From the very beginning with cheese and crackers and their relish tray you are in store for an exceptional experience. The meatballs and crab cakes were amazing appetizers. The steak was perfectly cooked and the stuffed potato is to die for. Wrapping it all up with a fantastic dessert selection. My personal favorite is the chocolate cheesecake. And the best part, a fantastic, well curated wine list that pairs well with any dish. Can't wait to go back.
I had a great experience dining here recently. The ambiance is a very unique rustic country chic and the service was great. I enjoyed my food, cocktail, and the wine we tried. The wine menu was extensive, and we got to learn more about it on a tour of the barn after dinner which was super cool! I'd definitely recommend coming here for a nice dinner if you're in the RTP area.
The Angus Barn is one of those restaurants that comes with a huge reputation and very polarizing reviews, and after visiting a couple times, I understand why. The food is fine/solid, competently prepared, but not particularly memorable for the price point. Personally, I think the steaks are just okay, especially when compared to other high-end options in the area. What you're really paying for here is the atmosphere, and to be fair, it absolutely delivers around Christmas time. The holiday decorations are magical, and the overall experience feels festive and special in a way few restaurants can replicate. Also there are what seems to be hundreds of employees so the service is good! That said, outside of the holiday season, I struggle to justify the high price tag when the food itself doesn't quite match the hype. It's worth experiencing at least once, particularly in December (you must place a reservation from January the Chirstmas before due to the demand), but for me, it's more about the ambiance than the steak.
Made reservations a few months ago to be able to see the holiday decorations before they were gone this month. First time trying Angus Barn as well. Overall it was a great experience! Service was phenomenal all evening, our waitress was attentive the whole evening. Loved the cheese and crackers, bread bowl, and pickled veggie bowl for complimentary starters, so much so that we didn't have to order any appetizers for the two of us. The cheese and crackers were my favorite of the 3. I went with the NY strip with garlic butter, baked potato, and Mac and cheese. I loved being able to get an extra side instead of a soup or salad included with the meal. The steak was a perfect medium well for myself and the Mac and cheese was very tasty. I was a little disappointed with the potato as it was a little overcooked though. My girlfriend got the crab cakes and a side of creamed corn and both were delicious as well. We ended the meal with a slice of sawdust and chocolate chess pie. Both were tasty and a perfect end to the meal.
It was NYE dining experience full of nostalgia and CAROLINA PRIDE. I started my culinary fining dining experiences in Raleigh back in 80s with my middle sister. She was in banking and often included me as plus one. Now some 40+ years later I'm extremely proud to see that traditions of Angus Barn lives on. I had dined in the final years of Chef Royal who passed in 2023. The mystic of this rouge barn has been written about for several decades and its reputation of fine steak house dining emulates its staunce attention to detail, immaculate service and food that resonates their ambitions to keep you coming back for their unique ways. I am primarily a lean meat eater yet there are times you just need quality lean red meat, for me its a filet med rare or delmonico tonight was a filet adorned with traditional iceberg wedge. I have this strange unique combo of blue cheese and thousand island to complete my salad. Normally I would have requested no boiled egg yet being NYE engrossed in conversation I forgot. It was surprisingly flavorful with egg and I didn't really notice boiled egg. Let's rewind to our appetizer the ribs which were exceptionally tender a very nice lean rack that made it easy to enjoy without a mess and sauce on side. We savored the smoke flavors of ribs while nibbling on the relish of olives etc plus house cheeses and homemade crackers. The candles on tables plus all Xmas decorations adorned the warmth of this truly magnanimous dining experience. A fine glass of Pinot Noir was just the tonic to wash down such a flavor party in my mouth. I rewind to our entrance while awaiting our table. Lively atmosphere of people anticipating dining tasting new year. Grand Dames in real fur, festive evening wear shined in contrast of all the decor. Numerous generations of family, friends, dates all awaited their tables to indulge as we were to welcome in 2026. The conversation about flavors of ribs etc were going when our waiter approaches with our main entrees we both decided on filet I luv a bit of blood in mine my companion didn't. Temperature of my steak was on point plus my baked potato had been properly dressed by our server. Needless to say there was no way I'd complete this meal in one seating , so our server kindly packed our leftovers from dinner and appetizers. We continued to chat before finally allowing server to present the dessert platter which we chose from as to go items. I decided on blueberry cobbler while my companion took the Chess Pie. The timing of our prestinely packed to go and leftovers were placed by server, as the staff passed out champagne and party favors in anticipation of of NEW YEARS TOAST OF 2026. We had been dining almost 5 hours as new year countdown started. The most ornate decorations adorned these hallowed walls ceilings and grounds making a tremendous background for pictures to remind you of past as we all ushered in a new year full of music hugs toasts kisses and just being thankful to have experienced this event at such an institution of Raleigh NC!
The Angus Barn was all decked out this year. If you don't have reservations, get there early, as the line to get on the waitlist is long. I arrived before my reservations, as I like to look at all the decorations. I stumbled upon the elevator and the train. Looking back at my photos, it is fun to see how different they make it each year. I was seated at a great table and could enjoy the decorations while eating. There was no shortage of staff to make sure that I had everything I needed, whether it be bread or more crackers. Even at the end of my meal, I overheard another staff member asking my waiter if I needed more tea. I had already told him I had enough left. Bobby D. was my waiter and had a wonderful personality, and never missed a beat. I ordered the filet mignon again with creamed corn and a baked potato. The creamed corn is much different than what you get in a can. I don't know when the last time I even had that was, but when I saw the new addition to the menu, I thought I'd try something new. It is creamy but not heavy, with some subtle cheese flavors. When my filet came out, I was instructed to cut into it to make sure it was cooked properly. I couldn't finish as I ate too many of the homemade crackers, cheese, and the relish dish. But now I have leftovers. I did eat the sawdust pie later that evening. I hadn't remembered the sliced banana before. If all goes as planned, I will make it back next month. Maybe I will order another main dish, but probably not. I will pick different sides, though.
Christmas at the Angus Barn is so special and I recommend that everyone go at least once to have the experience. The staff are always amazing and provide excellent service. Food was so yummy I had steak and shrimp with two sides, all cooked to perfection and the Main Character the Ambience was on full display. There's no corner that's not decorated and the moment you step on the grounds you're immediately filled with joy. If you don't have a reservation show up an hr before opening and you'll get a seat this is during the holiday season of course.
Celebrated our grandson's birthday at Angus Barn. Always a pleasure and great fun eating at Angus Barn especially when the Barn is in full Christmas regalia. I had the 14 oz pre me rub, and French onion soup. Before your entree Angus Barn always bring the relish tray and the always fabulous cheese and crackers. Those are fantastic but you can fill yourself up with as many plates as you can devour. The service is also great, with someone offering drink, water, or even awesome desserts. Always worth a reservation to celebrate.
They are strong in the service and ambiance department. Our server was attentive and super friendly, and our glasses were always full. She never forgot anything we asked for. We had one very minor misunderstanding on the food order and it was resolved within what felt like seconds. They really go out of their way with customer experience here. The barn is beautiful during the holidays. They give out complimentary gingerbread cookies during the holidays on your way out, however our dinner ran late and they closed up the stand before we finished our meal so we didnt get any - but we did notice it on our way in and thought it was such a nice touch for the season. The food itself was fine. My t-bone steak and sweet potatoes tasted as what any other steak house would taste like in my opinion. I think thats fine? How many ways can a steak really be cooked to stand out, you know? The stuffed potatoes were dry. The prime ribs did lack for us as they were mainly bones than anything. It's nice it was the whole rack but still - a whole rack of bones is just a whole rack of bones. The chocolate chess pie is well known and was good. A lot smaller than i expected but still good.
I was anticipating this evening for the past year and was so excited to see the decorations, and enjoy the wonderful meal and time with my friends. It took a long time just to get a reservation and I took the first thing that I could get which was a 4 o'clock reservation on a Sunday. The place was mobbed, and I understand why because the decorations are fabulous. First off, decorations 10/10 - so much to see and I want to go back as I didn't see it all. The outside is decked out too. Our waiter was top notch - he was a pro and one of the better waiters I've encountered. He was outstanding. I split a meal with my friend and ordered a ribeye, with a wedge salad, sweet potato and a side of creamed spinach. The wedge salad was delish. I loved every bite. The steak on the other hand was not good. It was no better than a grocery store steak. For a $100 dinner I expected a steak you'd find at other top notch steak houses. The steak was chewy and fatty in many spots. I didn't finish it. I didn't get the steak intense flavor I wanted either. The creamed spinach was good but I wanted a thicker and creamier version of this dish. I got the experience and service but I can't give the stars for food. I had a few olives in the olive bowl they brought out but I don't care for pits in my olives and having to spit out the pit. I wanted to rave about the food but didn't get that experience today.
A must visit during the holidays for their decked out Christmas decorations! Came at opening (2:30 pm) on a Monday to get a spot in the Wild Turkey Lounge (no reservations required for the lounge, it's first-come first-served). Upon arrival, our hostess took our name/phone number to notify us when our table in the lounge was ready. There wasn't a line, it just took a few minutes to be ready for each party - this ended up being perfect to allow us time to look at all of the decorations on the main floor which were stunning. Another benefit of arriving early was that we essentially had the space to ourselves to take pictures which became very crowded by the time we left a little before 4 pm. We were seated in just about 10 minutes at a table. The lounge was super cozy and while less intensely decorated compared to the dining room, still had a very festive atmosphere and superb ambiance. Our server brought out a complimentary cheese/crackers plate with olives and pickles which was quite a generous portion. Their drink menu is very extensive. I had the mule cocktail which was delicious. We ordered the crab appetizer which was warm, cheezy and came with lumps of crab. Overall, was tasty though a bit pricey for what it was and wish there was some form of soft bread/pita instead of the crackers that were paired with it. We did not ever feel rushed during our time in the lounge and we had ample time to take in the decor. It looked like you could order most of the same menu as the dining room in the lounge but after reading prior reviews, we chose to stick with drinks and the appetizer and being there mainly for the vibes/view which I think was the move. However, I would consider coming back for the food at a less busy time of year. Highly recommend trying to arrive as early as possible (they have their holiday specific hours listed on their website) for minimal wait times, as I think our positive experience was largely shaped by this.

I received one of the best food experiences here At Angus Barn. The decor during the holidays is beautiful. The lady's bathrooms are even beautifully decorated. Very nice to look at during the dining experience with good seating. It's clean, and there is plenty of cozy seating area to wait if you don't have a reservation. My back was facing all of the decors. I did not love where I was seated as I saw less desirable decor that made my mind wander. The food quickly took my mind off the ugly tools on the wall that appeared to be representations of objects used to trap and capture animals in the wild. Food: 5 out of 5, everything I had was delicious. Espresso rubbed Filet mignon was the most tender and flavorful. The sides were also delicious - mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, and garden salad. The quality of the food was the best. The taste of the food was so satisfying. Everything was seasoned to perfection. My steak was prepared medium well, just as I asked. The chocolate chess pie was everything to me. The best dessert I've had in a long time. I'm overly thankful for how good this food was to my tastebuds and soul. Service 4 out of 5: Our waitress was nice. She did a good job making recommendations when asked. The servicing pace wasn't consistent throughout our dining experience. Seems like something happened, and the server started to speed up on getting us serviced towards the end of the dining experience during desserts. Location: Easy to find location. I can appreciate the easy parking situation here. Somewhat out of my way as it's not my normal beating path, so the chances of me being a regular here are very low. I would come back on special occasions to enjoy the delicious food Angus Barn prepares. Angus barn is always a hit and a staple place to visit in the triangle. Very much on the high end but worth the price for the experience, service and food. The holiday decorations are unbelievable and the different rooms of the restaurant are always beautiful at all times of the year. All of the wait staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and they even have a wine expert on hand if you have more advanced questions. The steaks are always cooked to your choice and they are always perfect. You will likely need reservations but it is worth it. read more
Visited Angus Barn during Christmas and it exceeded expectations. Despite a challenging reservation process, the beautifully decorated venue made it worthwhile. Skipped appetizers because we were ordering a tomahawk steak and the cheese plate/cracker basket with bread rolls and relish plate that comes complimentary was more than enough to start. The steak was flavorful and accompanied by dipping sauces that were very much appreciated but not needed because the steak was perfect. Dinners come with salad or soup and side. We opted for the Caesar salad and mashed potatoes, both delicious. We were also very pleased with their extensive drink options. My partner enjoyed a Smokey old fashioned and I chose from their wine list which seemed to have unlimited options. I highly recommend Angus Barn for both the experience and food. read more

Wow, this was one of the best steaks I've had in years. This place has been around 65 years and can't believe I just now got to try it. The rustic and very unique decor of this restaurant is interesting and fun by itself. They have a great selection of steaks and sides. The salad that comes with the steak could be a meal by itself . Although pricey they have a great bourbon and wine selection. You will not leave hungry. Make sure you save room for dessert. Chocolate chess pie was excellent. They have a lot homemade desserts to choose from. Service was top notch. read more

There's a reason a table at this place is so coveted. Been coming here since the 80s, most recently this past Sunday afternoon to eat and drink in the Wild Turkey Lounge with my family. Ordered a dozen oysters, shrimp cocktail, wedge salad, the double patty cheeseburger and chocolate chess pie. And a slew of cocktails. Oysters? Some of the best I've ever had. Shucked and chilled to perfection. Shrimp? Jumbo size and meaty. Quality all the way. And the double cheeseburger? Enormously delicious. The quality of beef was bar none. As a 30-year west coaster now, dining here brings me back to what makes this place in the Carolinas so appealing. Nostalgic, deeply rooted in tradition and above all, a highly trained and seasoned staff. You cannot go wrong here. Book early, enjoy and take lots of pics. It's always a truly memorable experience. read more

I really enjoyed my time here. It was a little more casual than I expected with the tables and decor. I had the ribeye with the loaded mashed potatoes. Everything was cooked perfectly. The waiter was very nice and explained everything really well. I would definitely go back. read more
Visited the Angus Barn for dinner on a recent trip to Durham. The restaurant is HUGE, and may have been a former barn? We had a reservation, so we were seated quickly. I would describe the decor as rustic country. There's a cigar humidor, gun collection, country store, and a bunch of other stuff. Our waiter was excellent. He was knowledgeable of the menu and quick. We were given complimentary homemade crackers, pimiento, and pickles to start the meal. They were all really good. My cousin ordered a salad to start her meal, and she sent it back for having too much dressing with no issue. I tried the French onion soup, which was OK. For my entree, i got the huge tomahawk ribeye. It was presented whole, and sliced tableside by the waiter. It was cooked perfectly medium rare and seasoned well. My only issue with it was that after slicing and being plated, some sauce spilled out of the container onto the plate. It ended up spilling onto most of the steak, but at least it was a decent sauce. For dessert, we tried the chocolate chess pie and apple cobbler. Both we pretty good, but I'm very happy that the bill came with a complimentary recipe card for the chocolate chess pie. I made one the next evening and it was just as delicious! The delicious food, outstanding service, and reasonable prices make me wanna return every time I'm in Durham. read more

I enjoyed a nice evening dinner with a few friends. I had the filet mignon meatballs. While they are an appetizer, if you are a lighter eater, the meatballs and a salad are enough. The server was kind and patient, even at 9 pm. She checked on us just the right amount and was friendly. It was decorated beautifully for winter, and is just gorgeous. It's a great place to take pictures. They also gave out free gingerbread cookies. read more

Love it here! what a wonderful place to have a special meal. The wedge salad was totes delicious. The espresso martini top notch. Steak was like butter! The crackers and cheese are so yummy so take time to enjoy. i want to go here and dine solo so i can sit for hours and just savor every bite. i would go here every month if i lived closer. read more

Came in tonight 12/11/2024 and had the worst seat in the house. It ended up being the best experience though. The bartender was witty and fun and my food was amazing. I got the 14oz ribeye and was not disappointed. The couple next to me got the tomahawk and it looked phenomenal. I was only in town 1 night and made it a point to wait the nearly 2 hour wait list time just to get in. Worth it for sure. read more

What an amazing experience and I empathize the word experience!!!! In Raleigh for the weekend and we wanted a good steak. Found the Angus Barn on Yelp so we gave it a try. I'd venture to say that the best time to go here is between now and Xmas. We were blown away!!!! It looks like a Hallmark Xmas movie threw up inside and it's freaking glorious!!! Every member of the staff is unbelievably pleasant and welcoming. The Xmas decorations make you feel like you're in a different universe and on top of all that, the food is incredible!!!! I truly enjoy when an establishment doesn't rush you through the meal and allows you to enjoy without feeling bad about. The angus barn checked all the boxes!!! We had 2 spicy bloody Mary's with their incredible cheese spread so go with it. Half dozen oysters as app and the tomahawk ribeye for dinner followed by the sawdust pie for desert . When you first walk into the restaurant all you can say is wow with how beautiful everything is decorated. We did not have any reservations however were able to put our name down in the waiting list for the turkey lounge and had to wait approximately 3.5 hours ( live nearby so it was a problem). Once we were seated, we were immediately greeted by a very sweet server, and truly enjoyed both the delicious food, and without feeling like we were being rushed. Definitely recommend for a special occasion, especially during the holidays! read more

This is my first time here so I am excited to see how the food is. So far the service has been wonderful and the cheese & cracker tray is a nice touch. The steak was cooked as I ordered and the potato was also flavorful. I said yes to extra bacon and sour cream as anyone should. The service was speedy and friendly. I will be back. read more
On a whim, we decided to go to the Angus barn. Without a reservation, we were able to get in within 1/2 hour. Food and service were absolutely wonderful. We ordered the 14 ounce ribeye and the baked potato casserole. The steak was seared to perfection and the potato was delicious. Definitely a place we will visit again. read more

Wow oh wow. My sweet southern bell introduced this place to me and I'll never be the same. I have a t-shirt I purchased after to provide it. My sweet southern bell, Sherry, and I split a tomahawk ribeye. We of course ordered that bad boy medium rare (the best way to do it), and it hit both of our spots immaculately. The steak and savory and yet sweet rub, that tickled my taste buds. Our waiter was amazing, although I can't remember his name. The southern hospitality was unmatched. Because it was our anniversary, they delighted us with some complimentary dessert. There's not many places I'd rather go than here. If you come be sure to take the tour. Best, Jerry read more

We dined here for a friends birthday on a Friday. The ambiance of the restaurant is really nice & lots of different rooms for dining. We started with some cocktails before we were seated. The outside bar is nice & there's plenty seating outside. Once seated, our waitress was great & very attentive. We ordered a bottle of wine & thoroughly enjoyed it. The cheese & cracker plates they bring you are amazing. You can definitely fill up on those, so be careful. I ordered the filet & it was decent. Not the best filet I have ever has but it was okay. The mushrooms were a little bland for a steakhouse. The chocolate cheesecake was so good. I normally am not a huge cheesecake person but this dessert was great. The birthday girl got the chess pie & said it was great too. Overall, a nice spot for dinner. read more
I went out to dinner here with a group of five 4 a kickoff project celebration. There are so many pictures on the wall of this institution. Famous people throughout the years have dined here. The interior is in fact a barn so there's lots of wood accents and Christmas tree lights. You definitely want to get steak here. They have an extensive wine list and the sommelier was able to help us select a very reasonably priced bottle. The steaks were equally reasonably priced in the 50 to $60 range. I ordered mine rare plus which came out just warm in the center of a nice sear on both sides. Unlike some other steak chains it wasn't drowning in butter. Also unlike some other steak chains it came with a salad and a potato. The service was kind and attentive. Definitely a place I would go back to for a special occasion read more

Start by saying how stunning this place is inside and out . Second all the staff was friendly as can be however being holidays must make reservations because otherwise you won't have a chance to eat or drink it's sooo busy. Didn't get opportunity to try any meals only the free gingerbread cookies they were handing out to rate food however the cookies were divine. We road tripped from CT to Tallahassee, FL and a friend recommended The Angus Barn since we were stopping in Raleigh to break up the drive. Boy oh boy am I so glad we did! First of all, this is the largest restaurant I have ever been to! When we asked, we were told all this establishment covered around 55,000 sq ft! There is a pavilion that can handle 100-400 people, lounges, a humidor full of cigars, gun collections, military sabers, there is even a kicking booth where you can crank a handle and kick your own butt! I had the Connoisseur 22 oz. bone in Prime Rib with French Onion Soup and stuffed potato and my wife had the Chateaubriand with French Onion Soup and the stuffed potato. We started with the complimentary homemade crackers and cheese smear and had Oysters Rockefeller. We were stuffed to the gills but we had to try the Crème Brûlée! Our server, Laura was awesome! So friendly and she really was able to answer all of our questions. All in all, an amazing atmosphere unlike anything I've experienced and the total package. A must stop if you like steak and are in the Raleigh NC area! read more

Not worth all the hype. My mother has always wanted to go so I decided to take her for Mother's Day. Making reservations was easy and there is plenty of parking. We checked in and were quickly seated. I really loved the fact that there were plenty of places to wait to be seated and not just a bench in the front of the restaurant. The service was great! Everyone was friendly and helpful. I know that it's a barn so they stuck with the barn decor and theme, but it just wasn't for me personally. When I'm paying that kind of money I just want a different feel, but it works for the theme they are going for. Now the food. Food was mediocre. It wasn't bad, but definitely not worth the price for me. There are other places you can get much better steak for cheaper. I ordered the filet mignon and lobster tail special with asparagus and spinach salad. My mother ordered a steak with a baked sweet potato. They were good, but nothing to rave about. I'm allergic to pecans, so I told my server because pecans are in the spinach salad. Many times servers forget and I appreciated the fact that it was not forgotten. My favorite part of the meal was the complimentary cheese and crackers and pickles...the cheese was SOOOO GOOD!!! It was a cool experience and I may return for drinks or an event, but I wouldn't go again just to go. It is worth a try. read more

Best place to spend the night after a special dinner?
For sure, especially the Captains Table downstairs in the kitchen. There is room for four people, and the staff go above and beyond to make it a special dinner. We all loved it, and would recommend it for any special dinner.
