I am stunned with the overall average here on this company. We've used them three times now over several years. Admittedly, the last visit there communication challenges specific to the appt but this time around - piece of cake. Super easy on making and confirming appt. Super easy with the text the day before confirmation text with the tech's picture. Day of appt tech arrived super early in our window. Triaged, offered guidance and we have our homework to continue to test the front load washer. I'm happier with this The Applianceman since our last appt. Appliance Man Columbus seemed to be decent at one time but that was over seven years ago. My recent experiences with them have been very disappointing to the point I will not call them in the future. My most recent repair involved repairs to a high end dishwasher. They recommended parts which were not needed and turned those down because I knew better but gave the tech the benefit of the doubt and had other repairs done. I was not present since it was a rental property but paid the bill. I discovered later the described repairs were not actually even completed. When I contacted customer service about it they told me there was nothing they could do to remedy it "according to their policy". I have used the Appliance Man for many years and have been happy until today. BEWARE - they charge by the amount of time the technician is in your home. The $194.95 diagnostic fee is for 30 minutes. My technician was a chatty Cathy and chatted for longer. This cost me an additional $50. The appliance is not worth repairing so I paid $263.32 for absolutely nothing. I am not disputing the diagnostic fee but I am not happy about paying $50 to chat. read more

I recently called Appliance Man to address an issue that i was having with my ice maker. When I called in to schedule I had told them that i believe it was the sensors (optics) that determine whether the ice bin was full or not. I determined this myself by looking at the error codes that are identified by the blinking lights and a quick google search. Despite me telling them this when the repair person showed up he had a new ice marker in hand (which does not contain the optics). I asked him to diagnose before he swapped out the ice maker itself which he did. After a quick 10min diagnostic check he determined the same thing. He then informed me that he could not fix the issue because the part I needed was no longer being manufactured. That was bad news so...I did a quick google search on my phone and determined that he was partially correct. The plastic casing that contains the sensors was out of production but you could in fact still purchase the sensors itself. Before he left I asked him if he could remove the sensors for me and he told me he could not because it was riveted into the piece of plastic (which it was not). He then happily took my 180$ for simply showing up and running a 10minute diagnostic check... So me being highly annoyed and refusing to believe that the manufactured would rivet the sensors board in place I spent 5min and took the pieces apart myself. After doing so I removed the sensors itself and looked on the back where I found the KitchenAid part number. I went to KitchenAid's website to confirm that the part was available and I ordered on one line. It showed up today and it took me all of 20min to install and put it back together, The part cost 265$ but I saved myself 11k (cost of replacing the fridge). I would not recommend this repair company. They seemed happy to take my 180$ after 15mins of diagnostic work and completely disinterested in solving the problem. I have zero experience making repairs like this and did it all off the cuff. The fact that after charging me the bench fee he would not even remove the broken part for me was particularly frustrating. read more

I have used The Appliance Man, Westerville, OH for around ten years or so, mainly for service on my Bosch dishwashers ... in my home and rental properties. I have a Bosch 800 series in my home and 300 series in my current rental home. I have always had excellent, professional service and communication, and no gaming such as trying to oversell service or take advantage of customers. The scheduling and call service is always upfront and clear communicating. Aiden has been my technician for last couple years and I recommend highly both The Appliance Man and Aiden. Latest issue was the rubber flap at the bottom of the Bosch 800 series had torn and become unattached. I had read online that not fixing this might result in leaks. The flap was damaged by the Dyson vacuum used to clean the hardwood floor in the kitchen. Since the Bosch 800 is so very quiet in any case this flap is basically unneeded so I said to not bother replacing it and Aiden agreed. Highly recommend The Appliance Man Westerville, OH. read more

We took off work to accommodate the appointment, which was set at least one week prior. Repair person was at house less than 15 minutes, including payment. Noted motherboard needed to be replaced, which would mean a newer model is more cost effective at this point. Charged us $191 for a 10-minute visit that they were three hours late for. We called to ask for a reduction based on the late arrival and they reduced the price to $171. Don't experience what we did. Choose another place to repair your appliances. This one was not a good experience. read more

Absolute racket. Arm of ice maker broke off. I provided ALL pertinent details at time of appointment setup and asked if they could provide a ballpark as to cost. No. Guy shows up, I tell him again the situation....he opens the freezer door peeks inside for maybe 5 seconds (and that's generous) and states that we need a new ice maker and that it will be $618 and will take 45-60 minutes to repair. If we decline repair we must still pay $150 for him coming out. Based on our research, the part online costs $266, so the 1 hour of labor comes to $350. In this day and age there is no reason why a ballpark estimate can't be provided upfront for such a cut and dry repair. That would be the right thing to do. Of course, that would mean they wouldn't collect $150 for literally 3 minutes for a problem that I diagnosed for them. Disgraceful. read more

I first called for service on my dishwasher in May and it was close to 10 days before they could schedule a service call. The first service call was on 6/3 and the service tech arrived with the part I had identified as being an issue. However, when installing that part, he discovered another issue and said he would need to order parts. He did a "temporary fix" so we could continue using the dishwasher until the parts arrived. The 2nd visit was scheduled for 3 weeks later (June 24th). We had a text message that the tech was "on his way" and 10 minutes later had a phone call cancelling the text - said the part they ordered had arrived damaged and they needed to reorder. Tech finally arrived on July 16th to complete the repairs. Before I retired, we had a saying that people always want things "GOOD, FAST and CHEAP" and that you can usually pick 2 of the 3. In this case, we got 1 out of 3 - the repairs were good when finally completed but they certainly weren't fast and definitely not cheap. In the end, I think we would have been ahead to just buy a new dishwasher. read more

They called me asking if 6/2 was a good time to come out and fix the 9V igniter for the gas grill, I said yes, but in the afternoon. I received a text telling me they had too many requests for the afternoon, so they could only come out in the morning. Apparently, I did not make the cut. Additionally, their prices are really marked up. For two burners and radiant plates with ceramic rods quote they gave me was $982. I found the parts online and ordered for $107. read more

Beware of this company. After being a loyal customer for 5 years, this was the worst service call I have EVER experienced. I will NEVER do business with them again and will tell everyone in my well-connected Columbus network to NEVER work with them. Within the first 3 minutes, I hit the start cycle on the dishwasher and miraculously, it started a cycle, something it hadn't done in 8 months. The technician said there might be a shortage in the panel. I asked if he was going to perform any diagnostics to determine the exact issue? The technician replied that there wasn't much he could do because it was working. The technician did not conduct any diagnostics nor did he open the dishwasher at any point. He then said that I could replace a part for $600 which made no sense as he NEVER inspected the dishwasher to even diagnose the issue. Even though the dishwasher worked within 3 minutes of his visit, the technician proceeded to write his report on his laptop to burn up 30 minutes to justify the $129 service fee. After the cycle ran for 10 minutes, I suggested I stop it to start a new one just to see if an issue would arise with the start of a new cycle. The technician wasn't going to stay to see if the new cycle proved successful. I had to say, "hey I just paid $129, don't you think it makes sense to at least stay to see if the dishwasher continues to work?" He stayed but said that he couldn't stay long as he would hate to charge me for an additional 30 minutes. I called customer service and spoke to one representative who proceeded to invalidate everything I said and supported the technician's bogus report detailing how he ran imaginary diagnostics. I called back and spoke to another representative who also supported the technician's bogus report. I don't mind paying for a diagnostic fee, but the technician did not diagnose ANYTHING! A reputable company would not have charged the full fee since no service was rendered. read more

It was going to take 4 visits, plus labor for each visit for a repair that should have taken 1 visit. Completely incompetent technician. Staff was not helpful. $130 just to tell me it's broken for a less than 10 minute visit. Add cost of part and an additional $150 for labor (20 minutes.) in total $300+ for 30 minutes in the house. Most companies waive the initial service fee if you use their labor/parts/repair service. Apparently, this is not one of them. If I had not been on a conference call, I could have held the repairman to discuss, but instead, the repairman cornered my housemate for $160 after I had already paid nearly $350 myself. Quality work, but really expensive for the amount of time they were here. If you use them, make sure they are clear with what they will charge for. I should have read the other reviews before using their services, but they were listed on the Frigidaire website and made the assumption they were a trusted partner. read more

I hired this company on 22 JAN to come out and repair the icemaker on my Maytag refrigerator. The repairman stated the icemaker going out on my particular model was not uncommon and asked if I would like them to replace it. I stated I did and was charged $469. Today is 5 MAY and the icemaker is still not repaired. Not only is it not repaired, they have not contacted me to let me know the status. I reached out to them after 30 days, 22 FEB to inquire into the status and was told the replacement was on backorder. I have heard nothing since then and they have never once reached out to me to provide an update. It is peculiar that Applianceman would hold my money hostage if they can't get the item. At this point I can't decide if they are thieves, incompetent or just simply completely unprofessional. They clearly don't care about me as a customer. This company may have had a good reputation, but I am guessing they are under new management, because they are awful to work with. read more

He looked at vent hose and said it was split. I fixed vent hose. He charged me $70 for identifying problem. Another tech installed drain pump 4 days later. Total bill over $400. They schedule with a 4hour window and supposedly will give you update when they are 30min away. They never did. An unpleasant and seemingly inexperienced tech finally arrives. Annoyed the tech says "well I can't even check anything because it doesn't turn on!" That's the reason service call was scheduled as the work order states. Tech did nothing to even attempt to troubleshoot the issue and just started quoting random things stating 'you'll probably just need to replace everything" What exactly is the point of that? Was at our home for maybe 10minutes and definitely came with attitude that he wasn't going to do anything because it was 5p on a Friday! Nothing at all professional about this company! in a nutshell, labor rate at $280 an hour ($130 diagnostic and $154 to install a part). technician was in my house 1 hour total to replace a solenoid/water pump on the freezer water line. the new part was brought in as I had described the problem when I requested the service. my gut feeling said this was a bad move. next time I'll go with my gut, not the Appliance Man. read more

We had a great experience with this company: it was easy to schedule, the technician called before arrival, and the repair was thorough. We had a brand new Bosch dishwasher that was stopping midcycle. Andrew took the time to listen to the symptoms of what was happening, do a few tests, and call Bosch to confirm whether there were any known issues with our model. It turns out our issue was that there was too much pressure building up inside midcycle and all we needed was a different profile / sized screw on the bracket on the side of the machine. Andrew made the adjustment and also patiently answered other questions we had about the dishwasher. We will definitely call this company again in the future. They imediatly came out to diagnose the problem, then said when part comes in they will fix it. when part came in they said we would have to wait 10 more days. if they said they were short handed and would take 14 days to fix it, i would of used another person. i then told them i would do it myself, thank God for you tube, and would pick the part up, which they over charged for. drove 1 hour round trip to get part. got home, they gave me wrong part. by now food was out of freezer, which was only thing working. had to then go another hour round trip to get proper part. they cared less if my food went bad. cared less if i drove 2 hours to get proper part, as they were not honest on how long it would take to have a man available to fix issue. cared less if we had no working fridge. The repairman Steve did a fantastic job. The communication was perfect and texted me when he was on the way within the time he said he would be there. He took the time to diagnose the problem and had the part in his truck to fix it. He also noticed that I had a crimp in one of the tubes that as a preventative measure, should replace or it could cause a problem. The part is currently on out-of-stock everywhere, so he ordered the part for me and will be back when it comes in to replace. This saved me another service call and it will be done right. Steve fixed my problem and cared enough to point something out that could cause problems in the future. He did this with no pressure and left it up to me to decide.
