I recently went to Archer's for dinner last Saturday, i ordered the vegetarian zucchini pasta with marinara sauce. What i got was some runny orange sauce if you could call that sauce. This was the worst pasta I have ever had! And it cost $28!!! I didn't think you could mess up pasta, but they did! On the other hand, my brother got the coconut shrimp and that was good but all you gotta do is deep fry that ! And the berry dessert was good ! read more

I have always been a big fan of spiced drinks and they had the perfect drink for me- the autumn (I believe). A mixture of all spice, cinnamon, and nutmeg with an orange base made this a welcome change to a lot of the more alcohol forward drinks. My wife got a margarita that unfortunately was not quite as good as their custom drink but wasn't too bad. The server was nice and we enjoyed their recommendations. It was pretty quiet but that was probably just because it was mid-day when we went so we don't really have a gage for what it is like when it's busier. I went there with some friends for drinks. All the staff were friendly. The pub itself has a fun vibe, what you might expect for a pub. We didn't have any of the food there but I noticed some people getting food to go. I'll have to try the food next time. I enjoyed a Moscow mule while I was there. ABSOLUTE EXCELLENCE. We are so happy with this newfound little neighborhood gem!!! The atmosphere is classic, with a gentle warmth that brings us back to an old-time vintage pub. The owner, JP, told us that he recently took on the reigns at Archer's. He is so kind and personable, Like, an instant friend! We learned more about the area, and discovered how much we are looking forward to Summer in Fairhaven. Peter is way cool, too! They explained the menu patiently and thoroughly, answering all of our questions. We started with drinks that JP suggested, ones that incorporated their in-house ginger-infused simple syrup, my drink was not even on the menu! Parker got the Scratch Whiskey Ginger [which is reminiscent of a whiskey sour with a fresh ginger kick!]. My drink, a ginger lime soda, was a virgin cocktail, as i am fasting from alcohol for Lent. The food was phenomenal. Seriously delicious comfort food. Parker ordered the meatloaf. It was supreme!!! i had the vegan chili. That's right, vegan chili!!! Its gluten-free, ta'boot! The vegan chili is not even on the menu. Well, it's a hidden treat for vegans in the know! i got mine decked out with the works sour cream, fritos, and cheese! We are seriously regretting not getting the Maple Bourbon Crème Brûlée. However, because it has the bourbon, i feel better about waiting tiL Easter Weekend, after Lent ends. I hate to recommend this gem because I don't want it to be so crowded that we can't get in! What a marvelous find. We did the Fairhaven Sin and Gin tour with the Good Time Girls and were really in the mood for some pub fare. We've passed by The Archer soooo many times and finally decided to give it a try. It looks like a British pub... quite dark... very loud. Sports playing on the tellies. But, look closer. The stained glass windows, tin ceiling, woodwork all around... it's just fun. But wait until you try the food. What the heck? Dare I say, 'gourmet quality?' We shared a mixed greens salad with heirloom tomatoes, chèvre, walnuts, and a rhubarb vinaigrette. I had the sausage roll in a flaky pastry with a tart and tangy sauce. My husband had the Irish nachos with pulled pork. It was all DELICIOUS. We will definitely be returning. Bravo! read more

There were four of us and we loved the atmosphere and friendly wait staff (Peter) who made us feel very welcome. It reminded me of watching "Cheers" with stacks of games to play. I had the BEST meatloaf and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were infused with grilled onion and bacon. The meatloaf was very flavorful. We also had the Irish nachos and shepherd's pie and everyone thought their meal was great! We topped it off with Guinness and I almost felt as though I was back in Ireland. We stopped by The Archer Ale House during a weekend trip to Bellingham. We had never been there before and are so excited to find this place, will make it a priority whenever we are in the area. The owner was working behind the bar and was warm, friendly and a pleasure to talk to. He suggested a really delicious draft beer and then we ordered the Shepard's pie which was probably the best version we have ever had. We finished off our meal with an amazing summer fruit tart. I used to frequent Archers for the trivia on Sundays. The trivia was great but the beer tickets you win are not for every beer. Not good for cider and couldn't be used for soda. Really? Remember when the Archer was pretty much the ONLY place in Bellingham to get good beer? The hubby and I used to visit there quite frequently back in the day, in fact I can safely say the Archer is where I first developed my love of a good Brown Ale. We would go down there on a weekend night, have a couple of good beers, play a game, and split a couple of appy's or an entree. Oh, what a difference a few year makes. Now, I'm sad to say that - while they still have their awesome beer selection - the Archer has become grossly overpriced and is barely on our radar anymore. What used to be a fun, affordable spot for a date night seems to be targeting a different crowd these days - one that doesn't mind paying a few bucks more per pint and $15+ for pub fare. And that's fine, as there are plenty of other places to go get a good beer now. We do miss the vibe of the place, though. read more

It was 10pm on a Thursday night, and I was hungry, but I didn't want to indulge in the usual chain fast food, so I was elated that this little pub was still open. Matter of fact, it was the only establishment alive this late at night in itty bitty Fairhaven. I wasn't sure if I should seat myself after descending the street cellar stairs, but I found a waitress who was assisting someone, and she was kind enough to glance my way and gesture with her out stretched hand an invitation to find a spot to my liking. Another waitress appeared shortly after I took my seat in front of a flat screen tv showing Sports Center. She helped me make a beer selection and seemed to know I was there for food, so she discussed their small menu with me briefly. Apparently everyone raves about the Bacon Burger. Even my waitressed bragged about it. It won me over even though I was leaning more towards the Shepard's Pie. The burger is huge. It is served open face, but each side is itself the size of a Big Mac. It is ground sirloin, and it is cooked to your desire. The bacon is real thick slabs of pork. Not really my preference for texture because I prefer mine thin and crispy, but at least it didn't have too strong a flavor and didn't end up overwhelming the main attraction, the sirloin which was juicy and tender. Two beers and a burger cost me $25. Ouch! What happened to that saying champagne tastes on a beer budget? That adage definitely doesn't apply here. Still, the place has a nice ambience, great service, decent food, and if you are ever looking for a late night, cooked meal, this is your best bet in Fairhaven. read more

Quite possibly some of the worst service. Went into participate for Trivia Night, which was fun, except for the Beatles section (boooo :) ) The Trivia gal get a solid 3 stars! There was 4 of us, we wanted to drink, eat and play. Drinks were ordered and took quite a bit of time, fine. It's busy. We instantly ordered a half dozen oysters .... and later another round with our dinner order.... still no oysters. A salad arrived, which was to be dinner then the other food came out quite a bit after the salad, and still no oysters. Mind you, we reminded our server more than once .... when they arrived, there were only 5- must be that new math where 5 is actually a 1/2 dozen. Really?!?! I wasn't impressed. Nothing on the menu was outstanding, the prices were extremely high. Granted I don't really care for English beers or food. I couldn't even find fish and chips. Had to ask server to get drinks, to clear table, to get silverware. Next time I am in Bellingham, I will avoid, unless Trivia is that night. Or they hire some servers that aren't clueless. read more

The server was very short with us and I didn't get great vibes. I came in with a large group that had called ahead for accommodations, but there still wasn't enough room unfortunately. I had been planning on getting food, but it took so long for my drink to come out, I knew I wouldn't have time to order an appetizer or meal. The Archer Ale House is definitely a place I'd visit with family, but probably not again with the crowd I went with over the weekend. We stopped here during our bar tour, and it was apparent shortly after we got there that this seems like the place to come unwind with a beer or two after work - not the place you want to stop by if you're looking for a typical "bar" atmosphere. The beers were good, but the service was pretty slow. Several people in our group were confused as to if we should be ordering at the bar or wait for the woman who seated us, because she was taking so long coming back to our table. This place is located in downtown Bellingham in the basement of a building. It is easy enough to find and once inside, the place is quite lively. The food is not that good and over-priced in my opinion. I went there and they were out of oysters so I ordered 6 chicken wings for $12. Tonight we attended Archer Alehouse's European Beer and Food Pairing. Having never been here before we were instantly charmed. The Rathskeller atmosphere and enticing aromas drew us in. We were ushered to the side room adjacent to the kitchen and seated at an intimate table with 12 fellow beer offianados. The meal was hosted by a representative of Merchant du Vin. He walked us through the 6 different beers and entertained us with his wealth of brewing knowledge. The food was hearty and delicious. The service was wonderful. The menu is in the pics. We enjoyed our experience here and will be back to try some of the house beers and the regular menu items. Great place! I highly recommend you attend one of their Beer pairing dinners as a great date night. read more

We were entertaining an out of town guest and checking out the Steampunk Festival when it got hot. I was just noting the parched feeling in my throat when my companions indicated that they were in desire of something refreshing to drink as well. The sign pointing to a subterranean ale house drew our eye and we headed over. We were of course not the only people to have this idea so it was very crowded but it was comparatively cool underground. They could have used more staff out front because we had long waits throughout our time there. But the staff was friendly, thoughtful, and got our orders right despite the sheer numbers of customers they were up against. We just experienced long sits with empty glasses in between friendly, competent service. But the festival and the heat drew big crowds so this may have been an outlier night in terms of staff to customer ratio. My companions explored the beer and whiskey offerings. They were unfortunately out of oysters (the 2nd time that's happened in so many weeks at restaurants. Must be a popular choice in the summer) So we ordered our second choices. My husband and I split the crown sliders and they were yummy. I like the Irish twist on a lot of the food in the menu. Our sliders came with a beef patty and corned beef. It worked well as a bar appetizer. Our guest ordered the Fresh taylor mussels and they came with a delicious sauce and mushrooms. The mushrooms and the sauce stole the show. We would come back, especially for a football game. We noticed some well-placed television screens. read more

We heard the food was terrible and not worth it but I ordered the mac and cheese and elk burger and absolutely loved it. It filled us up perfectly and the flavor was great. Hidden Gem? Kinda. This is the best burger I've had in Bellingham so far. It was cooked exactly as requested (Medium), the bun was great, it was just perfect. Juicy and wonderful! The fries (potato wedges) were fresh and delicious. I complimented the chefs, I really enjoyed my dinner. However, I ordered a cup of the clam chowder to start and it was really disappointing. Watery, with potato chunks that were not fully cooked, and some veg. The clams looked fresh and tasted fine, but the soup was simply not good. My husband ordered the meatloaf which he said he really enjoyed, and the veggies that accompanied it were fresh. Our beers were great, although the selection was almost entirely IPA's... which I found off-putting when the name has "Ale House" in it. Service was quite slow. I only saw two waitresses working a full bar and full restaurant. They were wonderful AT service, friendly and helpful with the menu and drink selection, but just quite slow. I felt sorry for them trying to run around and help everyone, and make drinks. They need more staff. If you're staying for a few hours to hang out with friends, slow service is OK I guess, but we were going for dinner - and it took almost 90 minutes all said and done. That's a little much. It was clean but kinda out-dated. The bathrooms left something to be desired. I really wanted to like it, but I doubt we will be back any time soon. read more

Archer's offers a comfortable atmosphere and some of the best food in Bellingham. Highly recommend ordering the Shepherd's Pie. Great service and have even been impressed when the place is lightly staffed. I believe I saw a collection of board games and a dart board. We tried to order oyster shooters, but appreciated they weren't serving them during our most-recent visit because they were unable to get them locally (water had been too warm for oyster farmers). read more

I used to frequent this place and decided to repay them a visit, here's what I found: overpriced, weak drinks, so-so service, dirty walls and duct-taped bench seats, romaine lettuce that should have been thrown out yesterday, and burnt spaetzle. I won't be returning. P.S. Please pay for a Pandora subscription, so I don't have to listen to a Sun Chips commercial while I sip on my $12 drink. read more

I love the Archer! We drive in from Everson just to take a break from whatever farm chores we're doing so we can revive with a couple pints and some tasty food. Last night we enjoyed (swooned over) their oyster shooters - tiny fresh juicy Taylor oysters nestled in a shot glass of house-made cocktail sauce, with a puddle of bacon-pepper infused vodka (also house-made). We didn't have any of their dinner specials, but when we do, they are always memorable and unique. The penne arrabiata we had there was so good, we now make it at home on a regular basis. Last night though, we had bangers & mash with a restorative brown Guiness gravy, and one of their excellent angus burgers, this time with a triple-cream bleu cheese melted on top. The beers are served at the right temperature and in the right style glasses. Always an eclectic rotating tap, and the only place in town to get draft versions of some old favorites. The servers never make us feel rushed, are always polite, funny and attentive, and if the Archer were in Everson, we'd just move in. read more
