I'd wanted to visit Lynden for quite a while, so on our way up to spend a weekend in Canada, my wife and I stopped in for lunch at The Mill. It wasn't particularly busy, so we were seated immediately, and split between us the charcuterie board, and the legendary, highly recommended Brie and Apple Crostini, as well as a cocktail apiece. As a general rule, I avoid apple-flavored anything at all costs: I simply don't enjoy them. Thus, I was pleasantly surprised at how amazing these little bites of gooey brie and gorgonzola were, and how well they paired with the apples and whatever makes up their "sweet and savory" sauce. Be warned, though: they're so rich, that although only six came with the order, between the two of us, we couldn't finish them all (but not for lack of trying!); this is definitely a starter that begs to be shared! The charcuterie was an interesting mix of six cheeses of various flavors and textures, from sweet to bitter, as well as a standard assortment of almonds, cranberries and wheat crackers. Again, the cheese I expected to like the least (the berry-infused one) ended up being among my favorites. Cocktails hit the spot quite nicely, and were priced reasonably for the size of the pour. Our server, who was also our hostess (as I mentioned, it was pretty slow) was friendly and up-beat, always on her mark. Of course, you can't have a meal at The Mill without discussing the ambiance: the windmill exterior isn't just a front: the restaurant's seating is appropriately circular, with tables up against the interior walls, orbiting around the kitchen and bar at its center. A passageway on the east side hosts the restrooms, and also connects to the adjacent Dutch Village Mall, with its indoor canal, a handful of shops and another restaurant. While a sampling of a couple starters is a poor subject for a truly detailed review, The Mill at Seventh displayed professionalism, competence, and excellence in every facet of its operation, from atmosphere to appetijthapje (that's appetizer in Dutch, in case you thought I had a stroke at my keyboard). Lynden is a bit far from home back in Portland for us to make a regular visits, but whenever we find ourselves on the road again to visit our neighbors to the north, a stop to dine at The Mill is practically guaranteed. read more

It's astounding that people have given the Okay on their food! Honestly, our food was the worst attempt at Fajitas I've EVER Had. Not sure about anything else on the menu. Shrimp SO OVERCOOKED I needed a steak knife to cut it. Like chewing and chewing on HARD Rubber. The guacamole was black on top! This can't happen in an hour or so. It sat on a plate for what Hopefully was from the day before! The waitress delivered it as if nothing was wrong?? The corn tortilla was so thick and undercooked, tasted like RAW MASA. OH the edges were crispy!, better to use as a Frisbee or for skeet shooting. Beans were flavorless, no seasoning! The wooden platter had chipped varnish and mold in the cracks and crevices! COME ON! I should have gone with my distrust of the entrance, trash on the front threshold, AND the pond was full of green algae and branches. First time visit, heartily recommended by a neighbor. An impressive sight as the Bistro is located inside an impressive Dutch Windmill replica. Upon entering you are drawn into a welcoming venue, that feels inviting and friendly. Friendly wait staff and nicely distanced tables. My wife was given a recommendation to try the Brie and apple crostini which she ordered and it was very tasty as an shareable appetizer. I had a cup of Thai chicken rice that was delicious but should have been hotter. Also ordered the gourmet grilled cheese panini with french fries. The panini was very tasty and had a Dijon mustard spread. The french fries were nice and bordered on being crispy. All in all, we will certainly be back again. read more

While roaming around Lynden, we saw some people dining out in pretty sunny spot, so we said, "Why not?" Oh so glad we did! The Margherita flatbread pizza was wonderful--perfect crust, very cheesy and the capers were a nice touch. But oh my, the Matisse salad was a thing of wonder. Menu says, "mixed greens, candied pecans, sliced pears, dried cranberries, herb Cypress Grove fromage blanc, champagne vinaigrette, merlot sea salt,"--a fine combination. But what you can't guess at is the generosity of the "treats." An amazing helping of the pecans and cranberries made this salad really stand out. A light dusting of pepper on the pears was a surprise to me and wonderful--who knew?!?! The cheese was lovely. Our server was celebrating his first day, and you wouldn't know it. This place is a local legend and iconic place to visit if you're in town. The menu is very eclectic and wonderful. Everything we had was delicious with the exception of the baked brie and apple Crostini. It would've been delicious. had it been advertised as being spicy. That's the only reason I knocked this place down one star. My friend and I cannot handle spice and this had cayenne sprinkled all over it, but it was not advertised on the menu that way. When we said something to our waitress about it, there was no offer to remake it or remove it from our bill so unfortunately we both ate just one piece of this appetizer and had to move on and wait for our main dish. Luckily, our main dishes were amazing. I had the prime rib dip with the pasta salad and she had a flatbread pizza. It's average priced and has a very cute interior. In town to visit family, we chose The Mill at random. Service was very attentive and friendly! My French dip sandwich was one of the better ones I've had anywhere. My wife's Lynden salad was fresh and flavorful and filled with yummy bits. Our table also enjoyed a turkey panini sandwich and a Thai chicken soup with rice, both fantastic! Was a great lunch stop on my way to Semiahmoo Resort with a girlfriend. They had an eclectic cocktail menu. My perfect pear bourbon based cocktail was refreshing. I split the French Dip with my friend so the picture only shows half. We were both plenty full after. The au jus sauce was not overly salty and the hints of horseradish in the sauce was perfect. We stayed at their hotel when our house had the city sewer dump into it and needed days of restoration work just to become something you could go inside of again, and Mark and Linda did everything they could to make this stay pleasant and to work with our weird schedule, etc. they helped make an ugly event survivable. read more

I can't deny it, the food is INCREDIBLE. Just so so good. I live hours away and I have considered driving back up to have dinner here. It's amazing. Only problem is, the service is absolutely the worst I've ever had. Every wait staff, including owner, was dismissive and condescending. I would say they were swamped, but it was 5pm on a Saturday with maybe 4 tables. Our waitress took our drinks orders and literally walked away from us as we ordered. Mid-sentence! I want to give 5 stars because every single bite was heaven, but when I go out to eat service matters some to me. This is super cute, but I hadn't thought my sister would eat there as I thought ( unfairly ) that it had traditional American diner type food. Went to lunch at The Mill with my Mom and Aunt. My Mom ordered the soup of the day. It was completely flavorless. We could not identify the base so asked the server. It was cauliflower. Mom and Aunt split the French dip with a side pasta salad. They loved the dip especially the bread. The pasta salad tasted like Kraft Italian dressing. I had the Lynden chicken salad. It was fine except they forgot the chicken. At $14, one ounce of chicken is really cheap. The service was efficient and friendly. I cannot say enough about this lovely bistro! My husband and I stumbled across this quaint bistro a few years ago and loved every bit of our experience! The food and beverage selection, the wait staff, and comfy atmosphere was wonderful! We continue to visit this lovely bistro with friends and family every time we are in Lynden (I grew up in the local area but now reside on Whidbey Island)! Just yesterday, I was hosting an event in the 'back room' area (a baby shower) and it was PERFECT in every way! Linda, was delightful to work with and she was very accommodating to all of our requests! She even helped us move tables and decorate the space! She had suggested a menu for us that worked perfectly! Everything was 'top notch' and we could not have asked for anything more! We will come back each time we are in Lynden! Although the food in this place was good, we will never return! We went in to order food to go. However, once we realized we were the only people in the restaurant we decided that it was safe to stay and eat there. Once we ordered and sat, we realized that the woman who took our order was not wearing a mask. My husband asked her why and she said it was because of health problems. We call BS on this! I happen to know that there are no health problems that would prevent an employee from wearing a mask! At the very least, she could have been wearing a face shield. This woman was also the one who brought our food to our table which made us very uncomfortable! While we were eating our food a customer came in, also not wearing a mask. At no point was this customer asked to mask up. On top of not wearing a mask, this woman was also very unfriendly to the point of being borderline rude. It is obvious that she just doesn't care about her customers. The fact that this is allowed also reflects poorly on the restaurant itself. We are in the middle of a pandemic and we have state laws that prohibit this behavior. She was willfully ignoring this law! We will not be going back! If you want to feel safe eating out, this is not the place to go! read more

My husband and I have visited this restaurant a couple of times in date night. The ambiance is wonderful for an evening out with your partner. We ordered the apple slices and brie appetizer. It's delightful! The cook even made the apples into hearts for us as they saw we where on a date out. That little touch made my whole evening. Lynden is turning heads with The Mill. Chic, Swank and just enough of that cozy rustic flair to warm everything up. You'll want to (and should) sit for hours by the roaring fire in comfortable leather sofas. I think they almost have happy hour dialed in perfect, and the wait staff are adorable and attentive. Perfect date spot or ladies get together. They serve brunch cocktails on happy hour all day Sunday, and have a great wine list. (Not too ridiculous, quality selection, well paired with plates.) Loved the catering to all diet restrictions too- salads, flat breads, cow/sheep/goat cheeses, and OMG BACON DATES. Expect to spend some $$ though, which should be expected from a well versed wine/cheese crowd. (Okay, I admit, $16 for my plate of cheese/crackers/nuts shocked me for a sec. However, once I figured out the glory that I was eating...seemed justifiable at that point.) Parking is a breeze, lots of wee shopping options around too. We stopped off in Lyndon for dinner and decided to try The Mill's happy hour. It did not disappoint! The drinks are unique, well mixed, and delicious. Happy hour mixed drinks were very nicely priced to boot. The food was excellent. But it's the ambiance that really sold us on this place. What a great dinner! My family (husband and two kids) and I decided to indulge on a Friday night and made the trip from Blaine out to Lynden. The Mill is right on the corner on the main drag (Front Street) and easy to find. We got a parking spot right in front and went in around 5o'clock, picking the sofa seating off the bar. The decor is precious! If I had to pick three adjectives, they would be warm, clean, and interesting. The ceiling is copper tiling, there is a beautiful wine wall display and an incredible cheese display to feast the eyes. '30s music played happily in the background and unlike many restaurants, the noise was not an issue. We ordered the top five flatbread, the Italian Flatbread, a Grilled Cheese and the French Dip. All were delicious! I haven't had a French Dip in a decade and having come from its birthplace in LA, it was a delight to enjoy one here in my new home, the beautiful northwest. I absolutely LOVE the fact that they offer wine flights! I chose Riesling, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon- the Merlot was tremendously big and bold, just like I love. The Riesling was bright and not overly sweet, consistent with Saviah's reputation. The Cabernet was a bit muted with mostly stone fruits and wet slate, but not flawed by any means. The bartender Beth suggested a lovely fruit cocktail (non-alcoholic) for my children made with house-made hibiscus simple syrup- they just RAVED over them! Which leads me to my next observance: there were quite a few well behaved children in the establishment, which was nice. The bar was almost full by the time we left around 7. All around? The food was delicious, service was timely and knowledgeable, and the ambiance was classy and quaint.
