Went here for the first time the other night with my fiancé and a few friends and overall had a really great experience. The eggplant was easily the standout appetizer for the table and something I would absolutely recommend ordering. It was our favorite by far. The only reason this lands at four stars instead of five is that one of our friends ordered the Archer burger and wasn't too impressed since it came out a bit soggy. A funky New American restaurant with funky takes on classic ingredients. I decided to try The Archer after reading rave reviews on Reddit and desperately needing a happy hour priced drink after a hellacious work week. Parking was easy enough. Look up The Archer's menu before you arrive and locate the QR Code at the bottom of the page. This will take you to a page that gives you 2 hours of free parking at the parking garage directly behind-and-attached to the restaurant. I recommend making a reservation, even for the happy hour that begins at 5 o'clock when they open. It was the first thing I was asked after arriving. The restaurant is small but quaint with a very high lofted ceiling making the space feel bigger. The staff was warm, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. I opted for an assortment of shareable plates for dinner. The best of all was the Scallop Crudo. Fresh, non/fishy, with a sweet coconut based and spice darting throughout. A fork battle ensued over this dish. Other dishes included roasted octopus, burrata and golden beets, okranomiyaki, and bread with radish butter. Most interesting of all was the the okranomiyaki, which I can only describe as the fried okra from high-school cafeteria lunches in the south, compressed into a larger square and topped with various fresh sprouts and Japanese flavors. Everything tasted great, and each of the dishes were unique in their taste and presentation. Best of all were the drinks. The old fashion and dirty gin Martini were spot on and some of the best happy hour cocktails I've had in Charleston. So were the 3 other martinis and old fashions that were ordered in succession. All in all, The Archer is another great addition to the happy hour rotation in Charleston. If you want something different for the palate, this is a good spot to consider. The entrees looked good as they poured out of the kitchen, but those will have to wait until my return. Until then, I'll have another dirty martini please...actually, make that two more! read more

We got a reservation for a table last night and highly recommend! FYI the bar seats have chairs that have backs but the high top tables have stools. The decor is super cute but the lamps could def use a cleaning. Kinda gross to look up and see soo many dead bugs in the lamps but hey we are in the south. We started off with espresso martinis and they were very good, rich and in a small glass. Side note our water cups were very dusty . We then got the pork belly which was absolutely incredible! I love that they have the menu labeled and noted what dishes are gluten free although I wish they had more gluten free options! The short rib was incredible!!! Our server was really friendly! Bullseye - The Archer hits the spot! We popped in on Saturday afternoon at 4pm, just as they opened. What a treat! Good news, Happy Hour is available 4-6PM everyday they are open. That menu has specials on snacks, cocktails, beer, and wine, including a cocktail of the day. The martinis are great - both vodka and gin available As are the oyster sliders - yum! The bar has about 12 seats, super comfy. The bartenders were terrific, crafted great drinks, friendly, all good vibes. We even talked about Icarus with the bartender in the context of cocktails - lol. They take reservations, including at the bar, that is good to know, we lucked out today. We ordered the crispy fried eggplant for an appetizer which we were told is one of their most popular dishes, and we could see why! It was the highlight of our dinner as well. The cocktail list featured gin forward liquor to which I am not a fan however it seems to be the trend. I ordered the crab appetizer and it really did not have much flavor The accompanied chips took all the flavor which screamed Spicy. I also ordered the steak tartar which leaned slightly into ginger, It was good but noticed gristle in a few bites. My main entree was the duck Cooked to perfection and a very nice sauce However the side of a farro salad with endive, peas and mint did not favor as a compliment to the duck but it was good and would have been wonderful with lamb to which was not a choice on the menu well I try again So many restaurants so little time read more

All of the food here was good, but the service was unbelievably slow :( Firstly, we had a reservation for 7:30 and weren't able to be seated until after 8pm. It was because a large party wouldn't leave, which wasn't the restaurant's fault, but it meant we were starving by the time we sat down. Because of that we ordered very quickly, and while the appetizers came out at a normal speed, we had to wait over half an hour between that and the entrees. By the time we got our dinners it was almost 9pm, and while all the food was good, it wasn't amazing enough to outweigh the slow service. It also took a while to get the check. I understand that restaurants get busy, the lingering large party was out of their control, and the kitchen often gets backed up, but we all expected a little something for the inconvenience. Even just comping our $6 bread would have been a sufficient recognition of the fact that we ate 90 mins after we should have been seated. I was very excited about coming here, but based on how slow it was, I don't think I would come back. read more

I encountered this restaurant based on a ticketed event purchased, which was cancelled and I hadn't checked my emails to see this. They were so friendly and invited me to give it a try anyway and I'm so happy I did. I started with the Ambiguous Bird, which was amazingly flavorful, especially if you love rum like I do. After getting some suggestions from the waiter I decided on the Pork Belly, which was mouthwatering great served over a tasty slaw. I cannot wait to go back and have more of this. I was torn between the Salmon and the Short ribs. I decided on the Salmon and enjoyed it. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance to it and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I experienced The Archer for the first time @artinionchs a month ago and I was blown away by their crab dip! It's perfectly balanced with powerful flavors that keep you coming back. I was excited to finally go to the restaurant. Nestled in the Meeting St. Lofts the mood of the restaurant is warm and inviting. We ordered: Shoe string fries~The most addictive fries ever they were fried perfectly and the sauce to go with it was amazing. Beef Tartar~ The tartar had a kick in a good way from the horseradish. I kept going back for more. Scallop Crudo~This was different from my usual crudo. The cuts were bigger and the flavor was out of this world. Braised Short Rib~ The short rib was the star of the show, it was rich and unbelievably tender. We definitely argued over the last bite. We had a larger group reservation at Archer on Wednesday and I can not say enough about the service and vibe of the restaurant. Our server Kendall was warm and even willing to break down our bill individually, I know this can be an inconvenience so was so pleased. The restaurant is trendy and cozy with free parking in the Meeting Street Lofts parking garages - you scan a code in the restaurant. The drinks were lovely and every bite was yummy. The chef dropped of some of the meal and at the end of the night sent over a dessert. The Archer is everything you think of when you think of food and hospitality in Charleston. Cannot stress enough how good this place is- it absolutely exceeded my expectations. This is definitely the best food I've had in Charleston in a WHILE. And I mean a while! This place is different. I recommend trying as many small plates as you can because that was where the best flavors were. The pork belly melted in my mouth and was paired with a bright coleslaw to balance it out (probably my favorite dish we got). My other favorite dish was the crispy eggplant. The stand out dishes were the burrata and crab dip. Omg yum! Portions were generous and the food was delicious! We arrived during Saturday happy hour, which was a pleasant surprise. Let's talk about the burger... ITS SO GOOD. To make it even better you can get it for $10 on their late night happy hour. So cheesy and so delicious: Another big winner for me is their crab dip. Had a nice dinner at the Archer recently. The interior has a modern city feel to it with tables and high tops. There is free parking in the garage, be sure to use it. Take advantage of happy hour with $12 cocktails and reduced apps. The menu has small plates and entrees, and a decent drink menu. I enjoyed The Black Sheep which had goat cheese gin, a subtle flavor that made this a unique drink. We shared the crispy fried eggplant, steak tartare, crab dip. All were enjoyable but the steak tartare was a little chewy. The house made chips with the crab dip were very good. I loved the braised short rib as my entree, and my husband had the seared scallops & risotto. The entree choices were good, except i would prefer a nice white fish option (ie:tile or wreck fish) versus trout. Don't pay for the parking right away as the Archer will validate it for you. Once inside the comfortable interior of the Archer they will bring you the menu. They cover a lot of options but I would still like to see an additional steak option as well as additional vegan choices, but I have to confess the braised short rib was fantastic! Our bartender was very attentive and offered great advice on options, and the food and drinks were delicious! We both wanted our own burger, so our bartender recommended getting one with the shoestring fries, and the other with the side salad. Excellent choice! The burger was not too big, but it was juicy and flavorful. Simple, yet pleasing. The salad had a lovely dressing and was light. The fries were addictive. Amazing dining experience from start to finish! We were cheerfully greeted by the hostess and sat at the bar to get a drink before our reservation. Very attentive bartender made us refreshing cocktails (go for the one with honeydew in it). We were lucky to catch them for an early reservation with another foodie couple friend of ours. Let me tell you, every dish hit so hard on so many levels. We ordered an assortment of amazing dishes and as you can see in my pics, they are as delicious as they look. For starters, we got things rolling with some fun cocktails - I am a sucker for anything with the egg white foam top (TALKING IN CURSIVE)! For apps, we went with the crispy eggplant dish (OMG - must try), baked oysters, crab dip, fries, and burrata salad! For the entrée we both got the wreckfish, I had never tried that fish before, and they made it perfectly. It was an ideal size to share and still enjoy all the fresh ingredients. I love it when restaurants have 2 awesome deserts on the menu, this way you can order both and not feel like you missed anything. Great spot! We went for an early dinner and brought my daughter in her stroller which they accommodated well. It's the little things but having access to a free parking garage while dining downtown that felt like a true luxury. The service was incredible, our server Max was so attentive and really took his time breaking down the menu for us. For cocktails we took advantage of the HH and got the draft espresso martini and ambiguous bird. Both were great. We also tried the 7 year spritz and remember Sarah Marshall. Honestly, I'd come back here just for the drinks because they were so fun. For food we started with the burrata and eggplant. The theme of the night for us was unique. Everything felt inventive and different. My only complaint about the starters was the size of the burrata. It came out on a smaller salad plate and we definitely wanted more but the flavors were incredible. For our entrees we got the burger, wreckfish and beef stroganoff pasta. We also added in the potato purée and let me tell you they have perfected the potato (both fry and purée). The beef stroganoff was the only thing we wouldn't order again. We wanted to love it because the pasta was so delicate but the mushrooms were cut too thick providing an odd texture and something was a bit off in flavor but otherwise our meal was perfect. We finished with one of each dessert - chocolate mousse and bread pudding. So good, just wish they carried some of the Berkeley's ice cream to top it with! I will note the space is very loud. We went at 5:15pm so it was pretty empty when we were seated but it still felt like we needed to elevate our voices to hear each other. Burger (9/10): this burger is controversial, but I think it's one of the best in town. It comers smothered in an extremely thick cheese sauce. I enjoyed the sauce and though viscous, I did not find it grainy. The burger blend has a great meaty flavor. The patty is between smash burger and pub style and has a great crust. It was perfectly seasoned and came medium well - I wish it was a touch less well done. The tangy special sauce and thin sliced red onions do well to cut the richness of the cheese sauce. Fries (8/10): these are really well prepared shoestring fries and go really well with the burger. At $21 for burger and fries it is reasonably priced and a great addition to the Charleston burger scene. read more

Everyone, please read --Paul Farmer was the original chef who opened the place and when he did, the food was absolutely fantastic. That's when they were winning all sorts of awards. Paul left a few weeks ago and we went back without him there-- the menu has changed drastically and the food is no longer what it was. Horrible. It lost its charm, quality, attentiveness, taste-- It's nowhere near what it was. It's even missing some of the best items on the menu when Paul was there. The owner is cutting costs and cheating out on quality ingredients. I would recommend 40 other places in Charleston before going here. Wherever Paul goes next-- I'll be there! read more

The archer is a small Plates style pursuit menu the chef really focuses in flavors. The grilled octopus was just a tad too oily and spicy for my liking but cooked to perfection. The beet salad was to die for! Shoe string fries knocked out of the park, burger, and raw scallops over the top. When you come do not expect your traditional cocktail or apertiff there mixologist dies it all in house as everything is made with there own flavors and liquors. I always have a yummy good time whenever I go to The Archer. They have a common one of my most recommended restaurants where people ask me where to go, especially if they want a burger. This is no ordinary burger. The archer burger with fries is phenomenal and it comes with this amazing Parmesan cheese sauce, and I can eat it at least once a week I haven't but I could. Another great bonus is that if you go after 10 PM it's half off so you get to get a burger and fries for 10 bucks. That's an amazing deal. I recently went one night after 10 and did just that also decided to try one of their non-alcoholic drinks Called a banana naquari a play on a daiquiri and it was yummy. I'm loving all these new non-spirit sips that people are offering so if you love a great burger and looking for something out of the ordinary, this is definitely your place . We love Berkeley's so we had to try its sister restaurant The Archer. They offer free two-hour parking. Just pull into the garage and head to the back, then take a picture of your license plate. They have a QR code for you to scan and then you type in your plate number and just like that you get two hours of parking. The restaurant is small but feels spacious with its high ceilings. Definitely make a reservation! We went at 4pm to enjoy their happy hour specials. My wife ordered a dirty martini which was $10 (regularly $15). It was nice and briny with a couple of olives. I ordered the Black Sheep which was goat cheese gin, blackberry, grapefruit, thyme, and lemon. It was berry forward with a mild goat cheese flavor. We then tried the Chilled Crab Dip with pepita chili crunch, house chips, and chives with the happy hour price of $10 (regularly $15). The chips were thick and spicy and the dip full of flavor. We both enjoyed the Old Fashioned, once again $10, which was delightfully boozy. My wife really enjoyed the $5 oyster slider which is only on the happy hour menu. It had two oysters with a dill sauce and sliced pepper. We finally got to our mains with my order of the Seared Scallops and Risotto. The scallops were cooked perfectly tender which paired well with the creamy risotto. Be aware though that it is a bit heavy on the mushrooms so if you are not a mushroom fan it may be a bit off-putting. My wife ordered their popular Archer Burger with shoestring fries. It was a cheese lovers delight, loaded with parmesan cream, fancy sauce, and shaved red onions. It will definitely live in your dreams. They are open until midnight and if you get there after 10pm the burger is just $10! So, if you've been hitting the clubs, you can come here, park free, and enjoy an amazing burger and fries cheaper than a McDonald's run! Food and service were top notch! read more
