We had a terrible experience with Tonya at The Ark. My husband accidentally went to the wrong location, making him eight minutes late. The second he arrived, Tonya was visibly upset and made it very clear with her attitude. She was disrespectful toward my husband and unprofessional with our dog, manhandling him and even calling him a "bad dog." When my husband told her we had plans to breed him in the next few weeks, which was the reason we wanted him cleaned up, she made an inappropriate comment that we probably needed to have our dog fixed so that he would "behave better". Our dog was not being bad at all. Our Golden Doodle only had some matting behind his ears and a few knots on his legs. Tonya told my husband it would take three hours to groom him. Yet when he came back less than ten minutes later, she hadn't washed him, she had just started shaving him down to the shortest length possible. Why would that take three hours? At that rate, she would have been done in another ten minutes. On top of that, she shaved his tail down to the bone, even though there was no matting there. Where the matting was under his ear, she shaved him down to bare skin and gave him razor burns. She never communicated with my husband or gave him any options for how to address the knots or attempted to demat him at all. In my opinion, she shaved him down to spite my husband because she was mad that he was late... After my husband told me what was going on, I asked him if he trusted her to not abuse him without supervision and he said no so we decided to get him out of there. When my husband walked back in to the salon he found her yanking hard on his front legs and he told her to stop. She suddenly tried to act friendly and said our dog was "fine", but my husband insisted she stop and give our dog back. Unfortunately, the damage was already done. The Arc has a friendly and comfortable environment. The price compares to other area groomers. They always remember and seem to sincerely care for my dog. He used to be nervous going to other groomers but now he can't wait to get in there and hang out with the dogs. They are always done in about an hour and a half. Ask for Eddie. read more

Today was Buddy's first visit in Sunset Beach and Eddie made us feel comfortable about leaving him under his care. After we rescued Buddy in 2020, Nikki's Pet Spa in Norco, CA took their time with him and made him comfortable and beautiful for his visits at Kaiser Hospital as a Therapy Dog. Since our move to the beach area 18 months ago, my husband and I both feel we've finally found a dedicated, compassionate, highly skilled groomer who really took his time to understand Buddy today. Today Eddie found the little things (or quirks) that other groomers we tried in the past year, never mentioned about Buddy. He truly worked closely with Buddy to gain his trust. Buddy went from Street dog (5 years ago) to Therapy Dog working weekly at Kaiser Hospital. So happy to find someone to make Buddy handsome for the patients at the hospital and able to commit to keeping Buddy groomed every 6 weeks. Thank you Eddie. read more

My cat had her 1st "lion's cut" today. Eddie did a great job! I am new to having a fluffy cat, & she gets a lot of hairballs so I thought this might make her more comfortable. She came out looking great. Eddie has groomed her twice before & I appreciate his caring and gentleness with kitty. so I don't usually write reviews (which I should change) but if it comes to my pets, I always will go above and beyond. my mini poodle is a rescue who we spent months growing out her hair after dematting it and I wanted to make sure that I found a groomer who could do the breed haircut justice as well as being overall pleasant to work with- and Eddie did all of that and more. my coworker recommended the Ark Pet Salon and I've seen some of the gorgeous standard poodles that get groomed there and I felt confident in their work. obviously, she's my baby (with lack of better words) so I was still stressed about how she would do, considering her fearful nature as a rescue and she can be troublesome to work with but Eddie assured me that she will be just fine. I feel like this needs to be said but if you have a poodle or any type of poodle mix you HAVE to be prepared for the financial commitment that grooming will take. this includes upkeep and maintenance on your own because if your dog is matted, it will not look like some magazine cover dog. the effort put into grooming these dogs is very very evident and it shows in the way they charge and they deserve every penny. and this salon deserves every single one for sure. Eddie was friendly, professional, and was able to help me capture the vision I had into words and also suggest to me what would look best (or better on her) and I gave him that freedom. he's extremely patient with these dogs and was very communicative about how she was, and how I can work on improving her and her upkeep. I would recommend any dog to come here but Eddie has an amazing eye for poodles and his work is pristine. and it isn't just Eddie; Tonya's poodles are beyond gorgeous and her work and attention to detail is evident as well. if you are looking for some dog-savvy groomers, Eddie and the rest of their team are worth their weight in gold. We are extremely unhappy with the service. My golden doodle was completed shaved to the skin, despite that I told him that he has sensitive skin if he gets shaved. There is no brushing or styling. The owner didn't listen and kept giving me ridiculous reasons to shave. I think he was rushing to get as many dogs done as possible. read more

Took my 9 year old rescue to Kyleigh at Ark and I am SO glad that I did! After 9 years of searching for the best groomer for our girl, we found her. Stella, our pup, gets long, shaggy, and sometimes matted fur (picture for reference) and the way Kyleigh grooms her is perfect. Stella comes home clean, comfortable, and happy! I heard about this place from a neighbor so I gave them a call right now for more information about grooming my cat and I wish I would have gotten that persons name because the person who answered the phone was extremely rude and offensive. Update...years later, and this is still my favorite grooming salon ever! My mutt Brittany absolutely loves Rianon and she always comes out of there looking perfect. Prices are fair and the customer service is excellent!!! So glad to have found this place. Rianon and Tanya do great work. My 12 year old lab is afraid of just about everything but loves this place. My 3 year old mutt is a complete handful but they know exactly how to handle her. I won't go anywhere else. I have to start by saying that my dog can be difficult. Her regular groomer just had another baby so she is pretty overwhelmed right now and I just didn't want to stress her out with a difficult dog. I also didn't want to stress my dog out with an anxious groomer. Anyway, I was referred here by a friend with an Afghan who doesn't love being groomed and she always looks beautiful! So I thought I'd give them a try. I called and explained the situation, they gave me an appointment with Tonya less than a week later. They told me the cost with the disclaimer that it might be more if she was really difficult. I agreed- I think that's totally fair. Showed up on appointment day and talked to Tonya briefly. We agreed that she would do what she could if things got tough. Dropped my dog off and I got a call 2 hours later that my dog was ready. Wow. Awesome. I couldn't believe it. I went and picked her up and Tonya explained that my dog tried a couple of times to get an attitude. She was firm with her and just continued with the groom. No negative remarks from her, she actually even said that she was easy. I can't even tell you how happy I am. My dog looks great! I really didn't have high expectations because she can be a pain . Tonya clearly knows how to handle difficult dogs, or just how to handle dogs with different temperaments. I feel like it was a positive experience for me and my dog. My conversation with Tonya after the groom made me feel even more confident with my choice to bring her here. All of the dogs in the salon seemed happy and stress free. My dog was happy to see me and seemed happy to be groomed and feeling better. There are no words to say how appreciative and impressed I was with the whole interaction. I haven't been to a groomer who truly made me feel confident in their ability to handle my dog. And of course the quality of her work was the icing on the cake. read more

Took my dog Peanut to the dog beach, she was a wet mess. Saw the dog grooming across from our hotel, the were closing in 30 minutes and she still had other dogs to take care of. Tonya and Eddie are doing a great job at providing a service to the community. Their hands are soaking in hot soapy water and dryers all day long as work on our pets. Further, the distance between person to person is more than when you go and pick up food or go shopping at the market. If you read her instructions on the front door she ask for only one customer at a time inside of the holding waiting area. It's always nerve-wracking for me when sending my dog to the groomer for the first time. If it goes wrong, I'm left with a dog who has a bad haircut for a long time. I needed a last minute grooming for my Yorkie, and The Ark is right across the street from my cousin's house, she suggested I give it a try. Tonya was perfect from the first conversation about what I wanted all the way to handing me back the cutest, cleanest, Yorkie. I needed my dog's legs and tummy super short but not her body, definitely not the best look. Tonya somehow managed to fade it all together so that it looked cohesive. Tonya and her staff are exceptionally kind and caring in grooming my two cockapoos. They are both senior dogs, and one has terrible ongoing skin issues that are very serious. They take the time to work gently on my dog, bathing him in cooler water, letting the treatment shampoo soak on him, letting him dry naturally instead of using the blow dryer which is too hard on his skin, and very carefully grooming him. Everything I have asked them to do to accommodate him they have happily done! I cannot speak more highly of this wonderful group of groomers! They truly are exceptional! read more

Great place, dropped off my mother in laws 14 yr old yorki so things had to be good. They took extra care of her and took their time, not just rushed through it. Eddie was extra careful with her as she is basically blind and has hip issues. We were in no rush and Eddie told us for the first time he is very sensitive with dogs to "feel" them out and get comfortable with the dog and to make sure they are comfortable with him. I felt at ease when he told me that. Very clean place compared to some other places I have seen. They did a top notch job washing and trimming her nails (no haircut this time). okay so after moving to this area and tired of driving all the way to Costa Mesa for my old dog groomer... I decided to check out my trusty yelp friend and find something local. I came across Ark and saw nothing but stellar reviews so decided to give it a try. I have a 6 yr old English Springer (who is a groomer veteran) and a 9 month old puppy springer (who is a grooming newbie). The staff greeted me and immediately got down on the floor to say hello to my dogs before really speaking to me. This weighs heavy for me as my older dog does not care for vets, etc. so he always starts off a bit timid. I could see that he was put at ease right away and the little one followed suit. Everyone that was working there was super friendly and knowledgeable about the specifics of grooming. And that's a lot coming from me as I am super picky when it comes to my dogs. I want them groomed but don't like the show cut so I have all these minute quirky requests. They all got it which made my life so easy when speaking to them. My puppy was sensitive with his feet being touched and I admired how the staff handled cutting his nails but not pushing him to freaking him out by using more filing. The took it slower so he will get used to it. Most people would just torture the dog to get the job done and these folks not only care about the dog, but care about you both having a great experience and coming back. They are in for the long term, great customer care service. GOLD!!! Only thing I can say that is a bit of a drag is that it's cash only place and I'm never carrying cash on me. All in all, I'm thinking this is the best grooming salon experience I have had to date with my springers. I will be a long time customer in deed. Also, I'm going to copy and paste this to the sister shop that just opened in Sunset as I have gone to this one as well and pretty much had an identical experience so I want to share my reviews to both salons.
