For such a beautiful and creative atmosphere I have never, in my life, been treated so rudely and…read morefelt so humiliated! For years I looked forward to taking a class at this establishment and finally I decided to bring my whole staff there for a Christmas party. I had been planning the party for several weeks with the owners and had agreed on a Sunday night. The night of the party, my staff and I had been busy packing up gift bags and baskets for several of our own customers and delivery drivers. We got carried away with the fun and decided to open our gifts to each other as well when we realized we were running late. I called Half Moon creek to tell them we would possibly be a few minutes late to our 2 hour long class. After I sent my staff off I closed up my shop, got into my car and my phone rang. It was Half Moon Creek telling me they were canceling our party and that they were upset that we had wasted their time and had taken them away from their families on a Sunday (which was the day they had given us for the party) and basically what a burden we had been to them. After many, many apologies, they agreed to continue the party. My staff all arrived before me and as I walked in, I was not greeted or even looked at, yet the tension was so thick it made me nauseous. At that point I was asked to sign a waiver and that my two employees under the age of 18 needed parent consent, which was never once mentioned to me over the many conversations I had with them. Needless to say, we all left without a class. I will never return there. I will never bring friends or family there and I will never say a good word about the incredibly rude behavior they showed towards me and my entire staff.

I must write to contradict the review written by Jenn D. I have known the family of women who own…read moreand work at this shop for many years, when they had their gallery in Anchorage and now in Palmer. These women are the kindest and most generous people I know. They love what they do and love teaching people everything they know; they delight in other people's creativity. They take their teaching seriously and require safety at every step. They teach lots of classes to grade school and high school students and have never had an accident with children. I encourage people not to be put off by the negativity and spitefulness in Jenn D's review. I am uplifted with each encounter with these women.

Staff were really friendly and helpful, despite it being very close to closing time. Looks like they also have free events pretty frequently. My daughter is an accomplished artist in her own right. She has become an amazing sketch and graphic design artist throughout the years but I wanted her to get more training and also work on those social skills that are so important. We walked in and the place was bustling with classes and activity. There was a 8 foot tall metal wolf sculpture in the corner and I thought "Yes!" I knew it was going to be the perfect place for us. We talked to Stephanie and thought my daughter would love it. When we got home she wouldn't stop talking about it. She's really excited to try the classes. She wants to take all of them. They have classes for beginning to intermediate artists. Classes for advanced artists. There's pottery, screen printing, fashion design. There's so many classes and they're affordable! Some are even free! Everyone is welcome to attend. This is a wonderful art studio in the community! I absolutely love this place. Come down and check it out. Please! Support your local artists. It's so very important.

We enjoyed beverages and light snacks while we watched a presentation and very professionally done video introducing us to the world of painting silk scarves. We chose from 9 designs (and even had the option to paint a second scarf) and got to work! There were four students and each of us got personal attention - every one of us were absolutely in love with our creations! The most special part of the experience was walking around the yard and our Alaskan High Tea on the deck! Little Peters Creek winded its way along the perimeter of the back yard and we enjoyed a yummy spread of homemade bread, chicken salad, and crudities while we listened to the creek and chatted. After some amazing cookies, we got to see our dried scarves! Later in the summer, the patches of fireweed will make the scenery even more picturesque and I can't even imagine how amazing a sunny day would make the experience! Our hosts/teachers really thought of everything - class time is perfectly planned and, while warm and inviting, they are very professional! As a resident, it was great for a relaxing afternoon to learn something new and different, but a visitor would have an amazing experience and beautiful scarf to remember their Alaskan vacation, too. This is really more than just a class to learn to paint, it was a lovely afternoon! If you are on the fence, go for it!
