So, I get odd years, he gets even, it works. So this year, I chose this museum as a day trip for our anniversary. He was in Civil Air Patrol growing up, then the Navy, and basically, this is history. So I knew he would love it. This museum is volunteer based, and the items in this museum are by donation, from pictures to models to the uniforms. History and fascinating facts on the items displayed. I took a lot of pictures because it was so interesting, I think this is a great place to bring kids. They can see a fighter jet up close, see model aircrafts, and read up on aviation history. It was about a 50 min drive on back roads from my town, which I prefer to the HWY. Anyway, enjoy the pictures, and I hope you drive out to see it . There is also a wonderful cafe right across the parking lot called Runway Cafe, where you can watch local planes take off and land while you enjoy breakfast or lunch.

It takes over Haddon Ave. for two days in August and is filled with lots of lovely vendors from artisans to food. Not to mention cheap - just $5 for adults and $2 for kids. Opened in 1811, closed in 1965, and reopened as a museum just one year later in 1966, it's a fascinating look at one aspect of our country's history. The whole building, including the exercise yard with accompanying gallows, is open to the public. Signs throughout the building and small exhibits were incredibly helpful and informational. The woman who sold us admission was very friendly and helpful, and there were two other employees who were giving free tours around the building. If you're into haunted places, this place is also apparently a hotbed of paranormal activity and has hosted many investigators over the years. The main cell upstairs where the most hardened criminals spent their last nights on earth is allegedly where the most activity is. The prison is also right in downtown Mt. Holly so it's easy to make a day of it and walk to one of the many restaurants on the Main Street and explore the historic buildings. Definitely recommended!

I came back now and they've minimized their inventory a lot. the incense single sticks now there was only a few options, most were sweet or fruit scents, I actually didn't get any and that's what I had originally come back for. I remember when I was here last year the place was packed with things that I paid attention as I walked not to knock anything, and now there's so much walking room - I miss the abundance of inventory. I did get some crystals, they have them displayed on a spinning shelf which I don't know is very efficient for the customer to view the descriptions and compare, I had to keep spinning back and forth. there is a cute room in the back with tarot cards and witch books, and local art. it is hard to tell if they're open but you just have to give the door a significant push when turning the knob. the phone number does not work.

We have been to this festival a few times over the years, and in my opinion it is one of the better…read morefestivals in South Jersey, and not just because it is in January when few towns are doing any celebrations at all. They really pack a lot into the day's events. They close down the entire Main Street and set up food and craft vendors everywhere. Ice sculptures are everywhere, including live ice carving. They also have a lot of special events like dog sledding demonstrations, colonial cooking demonstrations, a wandering band of gentlemen and gentle ladies singing old timey colonial songs, and rides in Mt. Holly's fire trucks for the kids. Parking can be tricky, especially if you're not familiar with the area. We always get there early right when the festival opens and there is plenty of street parking outside of the old prison on High Street. This is a really fun event as a great way to embrace the cold of January and enjoy time outside supporting local establishments.

Not to mention the ice sculptures that are created there. The sculptures were a lil 1D, a few were more in the 2D but it was a bit warmer that carving the ice looked really wet. Good to see the local bizs having lots of traffic in their stores. I got to go to a few stores that I normally don't frequent but have wanted to check out (Olive Oil bar, Sweet Spot, Crystal place). For a cool $3, you could sample & help judge the winners in the Chili cook off. There were sledding dogs, a petting zoo, aerial acrobatics, historical figure reenactments, & various different food trucks on hand. Weather was nice (...as it could be in Jan) & cooperated, not super cold but temps did drop as it got later in the afternoon. We had a chance to sit outside and enjoy our funnel cake (thank you, Boy Scouts!). Lots of foot traffic up & down High Street/Mill Street. Good vibe overall. Overall, we had a great time @ the festival. They extended it a lil further down past the MIll Race shops and on the side streets as well. Good amount of people who came out this year. Parking stinks & you have to circle round a few times if you wait later to go, like what we did. Luckily, parking is free in Mount Holly. Great event for families & even just your friends. But local is the way to go. I look forward to going again next year & enjoying even more vendors!
