I reached out wanting to purchase cakes for my wedding. I asked to schedule a tasting, and was informed that they didn't have any delivery options for the day of my wedding. I expressed that as we're doing a fairly simple wedding, we don't need a tiered cake, so we would be happy to pick up the cakes ourselves or coordinate a pickup through our caterer. They responded that that would absolutely be okay. The bakery then told us they still won't schedule a tasting for us because apparently tastings are for "full service" weddings only. I informed them that I was planning to spend quite a lot on these cakes and would really like to try them first to choose a flavor combination that we'll be happy with; I even offered to pay for the tasting. They told us we could buy their cupcakes if we wanted to, but would not be given a tasting. In full disclosure, we had asked whether it might be possible to do a ceremony cake and then their signature cakes, and were told yes. We had not finally decided whether to order signature cakes versus "wedding" cake (as the only difference we could find on their website is that wedding cake is eligible for delivery, and has more complex decoration -- we were planning to pick up, and we're planning to just go with plain frosting with no decoration, so whatever their standard decoration is was no deterrent) and wanted to get clarification about any other differences between the two. We were told that we are very welcome to do signature cakes with a ceremonial cake. This was not cited as a reason for not being permitted a tasting. We were expecting to spend approximately $1,000 -- we wanted gourmet upgrades on flavor and filling, and expect nearly 200 guests. I'm not sure why they would be willing to do a tasting for someone providing only the classic flavors for 60 guests and having the cake delivered, but not to someone doing all the available upgrades for 200 guests. Their tone after I requested a tasting felt dismissive and curt, which was very disappointing given how excited I was by their flavor options and reviews. My impression is that they cut corners on customer service unless they identify you as a big spender -- and $1,000 just wasn't a big enough profit to be worth their time. read more

I inquired about having our wedding cake done with Artisan Bake Shop. From the time I looked through the website, to sending in the deposit to secure our wedding day, the entire process was seamless. Meredith has been so lovely to be in contact with AND she is SO well organized. I am impressed with the tiny details she has thought of, the instructions on exactly how to go from tasting to making a deposit for the date, and everything in between. She has been kind, responsive, and very helpful in making decisions based off of her expertise! The cake tasting box was delicious, and it came with instructions on potential pairings, a note sheet, and instructions on next steps if we wanted to move forward- when I picked it up, she described everything to me and had the biggest smile on her face. She truly enjoys what she does and it radiates! She is knowledgeable about food allergies and goes above and beyond for her clients when it comes to ensuring safety. She also responded to my initial inquiry by letting me know she would reach out to me if she hadn't heard back since she knows how busy wedding planning can get- it is so lovely to not have to think or remember even just a few things throughout this process! I only ordered macarons so I can't speak for anything else at this bakery. The frosting tasted good, but the cookies were hard as rocks. We left them out at room temperature as directed, tried them after an hour and again after 5 hours. We had to throw a dozen of these away because they were inedible. Meredith's cakes are stupid good, a serious cause for celebration in themselves when you spot them at an event. I've had them on three occasions (cupcakes for a Tabor Academy reunion, an amazing cake sculpture -- think "Cake Boss" -- for our rehearsal dinner, and then as our wedding cake). Having already ordered one for our wedding this past August, the maid of honor (Liz) surprised us with another of Meredith's cakes several days earlier for our rehearsal dinner. Chick-fil-a sandwiches figured prominently in my somewhat impromptu engagement to my wife (before Chick-fil-a became a political football), so Liz took it upon herself to work with Meredith, who designed and made us an incredible cake with all parts in the same of a chicken sandwich, fountain drink, and waffle fries. Everyone at the rehearsal dinner was floored, and it was characteristically delicious as well. The wedding cake was an equally impressive, though more traditional, followup. It was just as we had specified, complete with some of Meredith's signature touches - frosting rope knot on on top, one of her hand made wooden cake stands on the bottom. We went with the yellow cake with lemon curd (I love lemon cake more than all other cakes), but the carrot cake, red velvet, multiple chocolate varieties... and really everything else she had us sample are all winners too. I have to agree with Marc R. The service from the Artisan Bake Shop has always been superb. I must say, never having expected to have a cake tasting for a birthday cake, it was quite an experience when the owner took an hour of out her day to go over design and tastes for us. And then we got the price and was shocked that we could get a custom cake for that amount that could feed 30 people easily, with many left overs. We just got our 4th birthday cake from this shop and will keep going back. They are always beautiful and they are willing to accommodate our quirky themes from year to year. And the taste is always excellent. Year after year we get compliments about the cakes we get. We just tell them our theme for the party and they give us a design. We make some adjustments and requests and it comes out perfect for a very reasonable price. Our only regret is that we usually end up tossing some of the cake out because there is so much that we can't usually eat it all before it goes bad (at least not without gaining 20 lbs). We bring the leftovers to church, work, etc. oh, and come with extra money in the pocket. You'll likely also walk out with some of the fresh breads and bakery items just because they look and smell so good! I know I usually do. It's a 40 minute drive one way for me, but make it year after year. It's a very nice and pleasant drive that's well worth it! read more

Never will I EVER use or recommend Artisan Bake shop to anyone ever again. With much regret, I had to cancel my cake the day before my sons 1st Birthday party because our whole house was hit with the stomach bug. I was told I could still pick up the cake and if I wanted to reschedule the date I would be charged a 30% fee. In no way am I disputing this however, I was also told that if I couldn't pick up the cake tomorrow ( which I said may not be possible since we are all puking our guts out) that I would be told in the future "that they are booked"! I am extremely upset and disappointed with the service I was given today. I understand they took the time to make a cake and are out the money for it, no one is more devastated than me that I spent all this time planning a party to have to cancel it.
