We sat outside on a beautiful summer day. The food was good, service was a little slow but our waitress was warm and welcoming.

I wish this could be higher. We were all excited to go for my friend's bday. Sat on the deck, beautiful day, great vibe... and then the service fell apart. After we ordered the waitess went MIA. I had to traxk her down at the bar twice for 2md round of drinks and found her gabbing with folks who looked like her friends. That made us think they forgot about Despite looking mostly empty our food arrived late and i had the smallest reuben ive ever see. Salad dressing was mostly oìl. Lettuce tasted like it had been prepped with a knife used on hot peppers. Severed got one order totally wrong. Whem we spoke up spme items were reduced in price, we had to look at the bill to find out. Had she just said a "sorry, let me take some items off" would have made a lot of difference. Especially before daring to ask of we wanted desert. Youve got the potential, lake house. Just clean up your act. read more

After a lackluster first experience last year we thought we would try again since it was a beautiful summer evening and an enjoyable 30 minute drive to get to the Lake House. We were seated right away but waited 20 minutes and had to flag the host to see if we could at least get water for our table. Another 10 minutes to ask if a server was coming by. Another half an hour to wait for mediocre sandwiches. We looked around us and realized most other tables seemed to be in the same boat. Service was terrible. Arrived at 4 pm, seated and about 15 mins later finally had a waitress come over and tell us she would be back. It was another 15 mins and we put in our orders. But then realized no one in the restaurant had food. Owners and waiters went to every table except ours to explain what was going on, so I have no idea still what the problem was. FInally salads started trickling out. A side salad was tossed on our table. But we hadn't talked to our waiter at all. I don't know what her problem was. Stopped in on a hot summer day , sat outside on the deck, was very nice they have a large shade cover over the whole deck , made sitting outside a pleasure. I ordered the " special of the day" prime rib sandwich , there was three choices on bread , white , wheat and something else ? I forgot but that's what I ordered . Wasn't rye . Well the bread didn't hold up to its end . The meat was good . I thought it would be hot , it was cold prime rib sliced thin , with a dab of horseradish sauce . Barely noticeable. With lettuce and tomato. All I knew was it was a prime rib sandwich. It was good , the bread just fell apart half way through the meal , turned into a mess . I did have the option to have it on a roll, I definitely should have . And I got onion rings , they were good , all 5 of them .Everyone else's sandwich looked good , my Gf had the chicken sandwich and my buddy had the Rubin , everything looked good . We were told the wait was five minutes ended up being 30 minutes to sit down. Sat down, waitress, took our food and drink order at the same time. Drinks came out and then didn't return to the table for about an hour. We flagged the hostess down because the waitress kept dodging us, we asked about our food and was told it was done and coming out. The another 20 minutes after for the food to come out cold and bread was burnt and absolutely outrageous in price. Then we got our bill found out sodas were not free refills. The Ashfield Lake House is a trendy, dive bar which has recently upgraded its menu since I was growing up. This used to be the only restaurant in Ashfield, and still kind of is for dinner. I've come here many times over the past 25 years, and it overlooks the gorgeous Ashfield Lake. They have a deck area and indoor seating, as well as live music and events, and they're great for groups, or just an evening at the bar solo. All of the locals come here to have a drink, eat or play pool. (Yes there's a pool table!) The food is absolutely delicious, and the bar has a decent amount of beers on tap, if that's your thing. They're willing to go above and beyond with drink & food preferences. We've tried just about everything on the menu, and there's nothing I haven't enjoyed. Check the pictures. Definitely give them a try if you're in the area, you won't regret it! read more

We ordered two Caesar salads and split a tuna melt. My friends salad had a giant lettuce head stump right in the top, and the tuna melt was made with what seemed like half mayonnaise and tuna. Im a normal guy that can find joy in a simple can of chef boy RD, but this was nasty even for me. Why on earth would you serve a salad with an obvious stump on it unless you just give zero Fs about the quality of your food? This place is in a great location and the service was great. Its had a history of great food from previous owners. I really hope the new owners can pull it together soon, I'll come back in 6 months and give it one more chance and review it accordingly. read more

We were excited to return to the Lake House to check out the new menu/ownership. Although it was busy (6 pm on a Saturday night) we were seated quicky and placed our drink orders. Server was friendly as she brought us our drinks and took our food order. Then, it was like we were invisible. Never came back to see if we needed more drinks. We waited 45 min to an hour before getting our food (fish and chips). When we asked "Why did it take an hour?" the waitress got irritated and said it wasn't that long, but that it was because we ordered fish and chips, and so did a lot of other people, and they can only cook a few items at a time. Perhaps if you are offering this as a special, you should make sure you have the equipment to prepare it in a timely fashion or at least keep your customers updated about the wait and refresh their drinks? The food ended up being good, but not worth an hour wait or the $26 price tag. (And we would have preferred french fries with the fish and chips instead of homemade potato chips) . read more

Stopped in thinking we could have late summer snack and drink. Greeted by a rude hostess stating we couldn't sit on the lakeside deck table because we were a table of 2, even though there were open tables with 4,6 & 8 seats. Sat at the inside bar with yet another unfriendly server/bartender. We overheard her answering the phone with extremely rude undertones regardless no reservations taken. Not sure if the party continued to come or not. We ordered what the menu stated were potato skins, when in reality it was literally just a quarted baked potato with very little cheese and bacon or $8.00!!!!!! Needless to say, we will not be back. This is the coziest, most welcoming place in the Happy Valley. I love it to pieces. The new restaurant team is great, super friendly and nice, yummy food, great beer, and great local customers to chat with too. The food, the service, the ambience, the wait staff - all of it was wonderful. The Lake House is back to the way it used to be. Welcoming to everyone, serving excellent pub food, and good beer. Nice to see motorcycles parked outside again - looking forward to seeing the snowmobiles this winter (hopefully we get snow!) so happy that the little experiment the former owners engaged in is over. However, their improvements to the interior and exterior are beautifully done. Ashfield has its local pub back and I think everybody is thrilled! read more

Had another great meal at the Lake House on the new beach front outdoor space and enjoyed the waterfront ambiance. We hadn't been since before the pandemonium hit and really like the great stone work and seating area they have created. The new menu items were varied and featured locally sourced fresh foods so that there were options for vegetarians/vegans, meat eaters, and pescatarians. Everything was prepared to perfection with well thought out flavor combinations. Service is always excellent and accommodating with food allergies. We were so happy that they are able to open with the outdoor seating and hope that they are able to eventually expand hours as life returns to normal soon because we missed eating here. The current ownership is awful. The menu is boring, the service sucks and they hate locals. This was the only bar in town, it was filthy but, fine. Now, it's been taken over by people who want a more upscale crowd. I should also mention they've undertaken some really ugly renovations adding lots of ugly and unnecessary concrete to an otherwise natural lake front. Bottom line, these people should pack up and move to Tampa or Ft. Myers were people appreciate their brand of whatever that is they're doing. Might be worth a visit if you're an aspiring restauranteur looking at what not to do. Finally, and to be fair it's very unlikely but, it still wouldn't surprise me if I were to read someday this was something like an elaborate money laundering operation. read more

I am 52 years old and this was the worst experience I have ever had TRUELY. We waited 1 and 1/2 hours to sit down. We had been told it was a 30 minute wait. The waitress thanked us for our patience multiple times (be then it was pretty much gone!). We finally were seated at a table near the bar. It was so loud, smashing glasses multiple times at the bar some guy in a pineapple shirt yelling to friends. After ordering and waiting another 40 minutes without food. We got up and walked out. Pleasantly surprised with this beautiful restaurant. The outside deck views are to die for overlooking the lake and trees. I got the BLT, ask for the bacon crispy. My mom got the quesadilla and it was perfectly crispy and had the perfect amount of cheese. Our dinner was very cheap mine around 10 and my moms 14. Definitely will go back. Ashfield Lake House is awesome. First of all, for me, the fact that they have a veggie burger reuben is enough. It's delicious and reminds me of when I lived in Harvard Square they had one at Charlie's. I'm obsessed and my non-vegetarian friends all only get that, every time. So needless to say I was in love as soon as I saw it on their menu. Plus it's delicious! Cheesy, smothered in sauerkraut, perfectly toasted rye bread served with potato salad or homemade cole slaw. Everything else my friends have gotten they loved, too. Pasta dishes, seafood, burgers, chili. The prices are reasonable and the service is friendly. Oh my God, and the desserts! I don't even usually get dessert but we did once - peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream and a ridiculously decadent, HUGE piece of chocolate cake. Lots of choices pretty cheap, and very generous portions. The location is really beautiful! I loved sitting on the deck overlooking the lake over the summer and early fall. But it was just as nice sitting inside at a window table with the sun shining in and the serenity of big sky and lake views. You can swim in the lake, too, which I did one night after dinner a few months ago! It's got a bar with a decent selection and some regulars. It's very low key, casual, and relaxed. Seems like people knew each other in there. Lots of bikers during the warmer months; it's in a beautiful area to ride. The only thing I don't love about it is you can smoke on the deck and sometimes lots of people do. I really don't like inhaling other people's cigarette smoke. It's a really great place anyway, though; definitely one of my favorites in the area. And I heard they have music there some weekend nights, though I haven't seen any yet. If they are still doing this, I'll definitely check it out sometime! read more

The fish and chips are amazing. But our waitress was just about the worst one I've ever had. It was our first time eating there, and when we got inside we saw a sign that said "please seat yourself." So we walked out to the deck because it was a beautiful night. There was one empty two-person table, and it was not cleared yet. We sat down and watched the waitress run around for ten minutes without so much as glancing at us. When she finally came over, she immediately said "Just so you know you have to wait to be seated to sit out here," in a very rude tone. My sister and I immediately felt extremely unwelcome. I asked the waitress if she wanted us to move or leave; she said no, but it was going to be a while before she could take our order. We waited fifteen more minutes before even getting a menu, and the whole time we were debating leaving. But we had driven so far to eat here. Throughout the rest of the evening people continued to come out onto the deck and seat themselves and the waitress didn't say a word to them about it. When we left, we looked for a sign that said we should wait to be seated on the deck. There was none. Again, the meal was great, but the waitress made us feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because the waitstaff was great. Everything else sucked. The portion size and the quality of some of the food could really have been better for the price. The only good thing was the hot dog. Although the cheese and I think the fries were extra. Had the fish cakes for appetizer, they were so small they were only a few bites each, and I only got 2 a peice. My roommate got the earl grey tea cookies, and only received 3 small cookies.. Quite possibly the worst customer service I've ever seen in a restaurant. We decided to pop in for a couple cocktails and sit out on the deck because it was beautiful outside. My wife and I were at a table for two and had just gotten our second cocktails (which we got ourselves at the bar) when we were approached by the waitress and asked if we were going to eat. We said that we were only having the drinks (already 20 dollars in) and she informed us she may have to kick us out of our table for people who were going to eat (despite the fact the inside was almost empty) abd that we could stand on the deck if we wanted. A little shocked (because were paying customers purchasing the highest profit margin product they sell) I just said ok. The two women seated next to us at a table for five said that was wrong but it was the waitress and not the establishment. About a minute later a different waitress told them they were going to have to leave their table for people who were eating. Astonished the women said we just ordered two salads and nachos and we have two drinks in front of them. The waitress said we can compromise and took a party of three total strangers who were already seated and moved them to their table so that they could seat another party. Any reputable establishment would have just informed new customers that the deck was full but they were welcome to sit inside anywhere they like. Instead they proceeded to aggravate almost every single paying customer they had in the place. It truly was an astonishingly stupid display of poor Buisness management. I put something on Facebook about it and sure enough one after another of locals and friends who have been there recently have had similar experiences and said they'd never return. They may be doing alright now with tourists who don't know any better but I've been told the locals have stopped going and when the weather gets cold its going to be dead as a door nail in there. read more

This is probably the worst restaurant in the Hilltowns. They are not accommodating to larger parties. The food is over priced, you can't get even a simple cheeseburger, chicken tenders, or steak. This used to be a great local restaurant/bar that you could go to but now it has turned into a place where normal night life is not accepted. If you plan on going out do not go here as they have a 3 drink limit even if you are not driving. The owner personally is rude and disrespectful and if you are not her type of person you are not treated well, and speaks poorly of her customers using foul language. High bias at this "restaurant". I got a quesadilla it was burnt and $14.00!!! I had a drink, a shot and a quesadilla and for one person spent $30.00! I would never recommend this place to anyone who is looking to go to a bar. Full bar, good food, can't lose! I loved the Lake House before the Rawlings took over, when the spot felt like a grungy roadhouse/cross section of humanity. Artists, bikers, little league teams and those of us from out of town came together around the lake. But this renovation... took it to another level. Gone is the Sysco food, replaced by local fare and house-prepared salads and sauces. You can still make "bad" decisions (aka the best ones) and get some chicken wings, fries or patty melts; but now you choose a satisfying salad or other virtuous vegetable something (to go with your onion rings). The charm of the roadhouse remains, but some of the aforementioned grunge has gone away from the places that count (like the fryers and fridges, nooks and crannies in the bars and tables). The bar still welcomes regulars to while away the hours over reasonably-priced spirits and conversation but has expanded its reach to include those of us who were otherwise intimidated to sidle up a year ago. So in conclusion: get out to Ashfield and support this local business. Be patient with your servers, embrace change and offer your feedback to the new owners -- who care deeply about their community in Ashfield -- and they will listen.
