Cool location and environment. Wine was surprisingly good but a bit overpriced in my opinion. Staff was friendly.
The primary reason for my 3 star review is the "tour" and their complete lack of a process for getting their customers what they paid for.
The "tour" is a complete scam and I absolutely recommend skipping it. The whole tour takes about 5 minutes, and you don't even move. You stand in the main seating area and look at the ~ 8 barrels they "age" the wine in, then they talk about how they want wine to be accessible to the masses and that it can go with pizza as well as steak. We were never even taken into the back where you could tell all of the action happened. It was just some dude rambling about his opinions of wine. Complete waste of money and they should be ashamed for charging anything for it.
Also, lots of confusion on the tastings and attempts to double charge us because they don't give you any kind of receipt or wristband indicating you've already paid. We paid for 3 tastings + tour and ended up not having any tastings and being offered 2 glasses of wine to make up for it.
Don't do any of that BS, just go there and hang out and buy your drinks straight up from the bar.
EDIT 1/16/18:
In response to the owners comment below...
Hi Ross, thanks for responding. The wine was good, and it being a "tad" overpriced is my opinion. My wife disagreed with me, but regardless we both enjoyed it and I still recommended it to others in my review.
As for the tour... yes, I agree that the space and ambiance is very nice - which I also said in my review. I was mainly pointing out the gap between what we paid for versus what we got, and the confusion around the whole process. You make my point for me when you say the tour only costs $5, yet we were actually charged $10 for the tour and $15 for the tasting per person. And I'm not sure what you're getting at with the condescending "Willy Wonka" comment... I didn't ask to go smash grapes (which yes, I remember you telling us about). I only pointed out that there is clearly a full wine production area behind the tasting room and it's not unreasonable to think a paid tour would involve physically touring it, whether it's actively running or not. If a "non-peak" time tour is just to "stand in the ambiance of the main lobby" and be told things that the bartender tells you while pouring your glass, then I would not recommend others pay for that and instead put it towards some actual drinks.
Finally, again, I point to the confusion of what we paid for versus what we got. As I said, your staff was very friendly and I never accused anyone of being dishonest. I paid for a tour+tasting for 3 people, so $75 total. At no point were we told what to do or where to go to have the tasting, nor were we given any kind of wristband or indication that we had paid. We were told it is all on the "honors system". So, when I went to the bar and asked about the tasting after the tour, I was told that if I took the tour then I had already had the tasting. I told the bartender that I hadn't had anything yet, and wanted to know how to do the tasting. At that point she tried to ring me up for a $15 tasting. I had to explain that my wife had already paid $75 for 3 tastings+tours, to which she was confused as to how I had paid. Finally, someone came from upstairs and recognized my wife when I pointed her out and verified we'd paid. At that point, I was tired of messing with it and was offered 2 free glasses (or the equivalent of 1 tasting), which I took. Point being - that was far too complicated for a simple task of a tour+tasting.
It seems you have thin skin and I've offended you. Never did I accuse you of running a dishonest business, or insult your friendly staff. I simply shared my opinion that the tour was not worth the $10, and that the whole tasting+tour process was confusing and inconsistent. Maybe "scam" is a strong word, how does "ripoff" sound? Finally, skim through your other Yelp reviews, if there is a common theme to the poor reviews, it's confusion and an inconsistent experience. Perhaps put your energies towards improving that, rather than on being condescending to your customers. read more
