After living in San Francisco for four years, this is by far the best salon I've been to! They always make time for you and I've never had to wait when I have an appointment or call ahead unlike most salons. The prices are also great for San Francisco even cheaper if you pay with cash. They are very efficient and my nails always come out amazing, the pedicures are great too! Highly recommend

I truly cannot describe a better experience of getting your nails done! I came here after being consistently disappointed with my old salon, and not only was The Avenues Spa so attentive with prep--they were so fast!! I was in and out for a gel x refill in 45 minutes. The salon itself is very clean, and I appreciate that they didn't overbook so I wasn't waiting long at all. My gel x fill was $45 but $40 with cash. You cannot beat these prices in the city, and I will never go anywhere else!

Came for a mani and pedi walk in! The staff was such a vibe, they were very friendly and professional. I showed them pictures of what I wanted and I rarely had to ask to show the pictures. They did an exceptional job, very team work oriented as I had both my mani and pedi done. I had many friends recommend this spot to me, many who get very detailed designed nails that always look amazing! They do not disappoint. I would go back again just because their service was so good.

My friend and I decided to go get a manicure done after work yesterday because I had a lot of hang nails and Have not gotten one in a while . We arrived 20 min early our appointments but were taking care of right away . The workers are very nice , it was slow when we arrived but it soon got busy . A girl came in that had got her nails done on Monday to get one fixed because it chipped . They gladly fixed it no xtra charge applied . I got a regular nail polish manicure but by the time I got home my nails had chipped as well ! Idk if it is the base coat they use or it could have been the nail polish , as my friend's nails are still good and non chipped . I decided to look for the same color I got in my nails ,purchase it , and fix it myself . For this reason only although they are nice and I'm sure they would have fixed it for free as well , I would not be returning . Also please note I did dry them 20 minutes there and also avoided getting them wet .

I was quite impressed by this nail salon! My best friend and I stopped by on my birthday without any appointments. The staff was so nice to fit us in and we sat together in the massage chairs. They had a wide variety of colors (7 books for gel nails) and lots of different type of nail selection from regular, gel, and acrylic. I got a gel manicure and she got a gel pedicure. My nails were a little bit shorter than what I would have liked due to the nail tech shaping. I was still impressed because they did not start chipping until the 4th day. I will say that for the price of my nails ($30 for gel), which is an amazing price in the city!

I've been coming to Kim for a dip manicure for years, and overall, it always has been a great experience! The staff is friendly and welcoming. Kim is very professional and took the time to explain each step of the dip process, which I appreciated. They had a wide selection of colors, and the finished product looked sleek and polished. My nails came out smooth and natural-looking, with just the right amount of thickness.

They have 4 high quality massage chairs and 4 manicure stations. There is residential/street parking but it's limited. I luckily got a spot a block away. I gave them a heads up that my friend was going to be 30 min late to our appointment and they were not trippin about it. President's day wasn't a super busy day but they did get a constant stream of customers. I added on an eyebrow wax ($13) since I had to wait for her and took only about 5 min. Quick and it looks great. What I got done: CLASSIC EXPRESS PEDICURE $30 After my feet were in the water for about 2 min the nail tech started working on my cuticles. Another nail tech shaved off my gel fingernails then wrapped them in foil with acetone. I wish the massage was a bit longer than a minute but otherwise my nails turned out cute. I also had to walk from the massage chair to the manicure station barefoot as she took my sandals and other belongings over which was odd, but it was only like a 5 ft distance...still would've preferred putting my sandals on. THE ORANGE SPA MANICURE $40 (What's not in brackets is copied from their website) Warm bath prepared to soothe and relax your feet in the sea salt [Website update needed as your hands will be dipped in a small bowl of warm water which is what they mean as a bath.] Cuticles trimmed, gently shaped, and buffed [My nail tech went pretty hard on the sides of my fingers but the results were so pretty and precise with the shaping.] Thorough filing of calluses with a soap [I didn't have any calluses on my hands so this wasn't done] Exfoliating treatment with orange sugar scurb and hydrating mask. Warm towel wrap. Hot paraffin wax to soften skin. 10 minutes massage with lotion and aromatic oil. Finished with a polish of your choice [I got gel] Bathroom doubles as a storage closet and has a super cool looking hand dryer. Wish they had toilet seat covers. $125 in total and took an hour and a half for everything including repairing 3 of my nails. Appreciated the small talk with my nail tech and her attention to detail. Last note: They definitely aren't a money hungry business as she thought I was a young student and was worried I was spending too much on my nails lol. She asked if I had a special occasion and looked relieved when I confirmed it was a good reason to treat myself.

I have been Kim's customer for over ten years now and every visit i love that she has lived her standard to perfection. Over the ten years she has been very supportive to my obsession with my color changes nail polish choices by adding more and more color choices to 94 shades. I have gone to other nail salons however I always come back to her because by far she has the best selection of color changes nail color over others and superb nail job. She also is a very honest small business owner I have met and also who I respect very much I love her work and trust her professionalism with any nail questions I just know if I move out of San Francisco to San Jose I would still go back to her salon for sure Please go check out and start ur journey with her U shall enjoy

I have been going to Avenues Spa for about a year and it's amazing! I always get a dip manicure with Kim and I am never disappointed. Not only do the nails look amazing every time, but she's so quick! Other nail places take 1-2 hours but I'm out of the chair in 20-40 minutes! The nail salon is right near a bus stop, so it's incredibly accessible. It always looks clean inside and the music is great!

My go to spot for mani pedi's! The shop owners are the best! The sweetest couple with such an amazing team. The atmosphere is always light and happy. Kim is the best! She always does my dip nails. I do dip on the regular as it has stayed on my nails the longest with my job that includes a lot of hand washing/dishes/dogs/cleaning. I use to get acrylics with fun glitters and designs all the time and still do for special occasions. I always leave happy!

Back again to leave a review for these amazing ladies. Kim always has something new for me to try and the quality of her work along with the rest of her team is top tier. Even after all these years I've been coming to her for my nails and toes the quality remains high. They also treat me like family and truly care about their customers. It doesn't get much better than that. They have everything from regular polish to gel or hard gel and acrylic as well as various different ways to do designs. Kim is super creative and always willing to attempt the designs I find on Pinterest or try something new. If you're looking for your new favorite nail spot, this is it!

Allison G.

I've definitely found my new spot in the city for acrylics! I wanted something fun and summery and luckily they had this perfect holographic seashell color. Kim made sure the nails looked exactly how I wanted them each step of the way, from length to shape to color. I absolutely love them! Can't wait to go back!

Facilities were clean and lovely, they have the spas and massage rooms on the first floor and a clay and salt room on the second floor. There is a vanity room where there are plenty of snacks and water/coffee/tea for you to rehydrate yourself with. I believe you get an hour before and after your appointment to enjoy all the amenities. And if you get the scrub highly recommend coming early and softening up your skin in the spas beforehand. I got the silverbell 1 hour message, which comes with the scrub, massage, and also a hair wash. The lady was super gentle and checked in on me whether that was the water temperature, scrub pressure or the massage strength. I thought with everything going on in this it might feel too rushed but time felt well budgeted.

Actual rating: 3 1/2 stars…read more Women only spa by appointment only. Day passes available but only the day of if there happen to be cancellations. Otherwise, you'll need to book a service at least a month in advance. It's situated in Japantown. If you're driving, I recommend parking in the garage as street parking is either by permit and limited to two hours. They kindly pushed our scrub time to later since one of our party members was running a bit behind. This is the first Korean place I've been to where they requested you come an hour earlier versus thirty minutes. Seemed like a long time to soak. There's also no clock inside the actual bathing area, so difficult to keep track of time. Also, first time going to a Korean spa where they want it to be absolutely silent. I get that they are going for a relaxed environment, but kind of difficult to just soak for an hour and not chit chat amongst ourselves. The shower/soaking area is on the smaller side and for some reason, they didn't have any stools for the sitting bathing areas available. There's one hot tub, one ice tub, a dry sauna, and steam sauna. This would have been more of a three-star experience for me if not for the scrub. My ahjumma, Lee, was great; very attentive and did a very thorough job! Not mentioned in the list of services, but they also wash your hair and face as well as part of the thirty-minute scrub. After our scrub, we headed upstairs to try out the Himalayan salt room and the red clay room. They had staff cleaning throughout so they definitely take cleanliness seriously. Locker room area has lots of Aveda product toiletries and blow dryers available for after. As we were leaving, they gave a face and eye mask which was much appreciated. I can see this being a go-to place if you live in the city, especially if you prioritize relaxation and cleanliness. Just be sure to make an appointment ahead of time.

Environment & Ambience: Kabuki has a much wider space, calming music, great ambience, wonderful smells and decor. OnsenSF is a dining space when you enter and spa in the back. Everything looks modern and nice, relaxing environment despite being located in the tenderloin. 3. Hot Tub: Kabuki has a rectangle shaped hot tub as opposed to OnsenSF's square shaped tub. 4. Cold plunge: Kabuki has a cold plunge that's perfect for people who don't need it to be extremely freezing. OnsenSF has a cold shower with many heads in place of a cold plunge. Both are enjoyable experiences 5. Steam Room: Kabuki's steam room is also rectangular as opposed to OnsenSF's square room. Kabuki's steam room also has a shower to rinse off excess salt and sweat before entering the common area. 6. Showers: At Kabuki, there's also a line of stools for the seated handheld showers where you can fill a tub of water and pour it over yourself in addition to the traditional shower stalls, where OnsenSF only has the traditional showers if I recall correctly. 7. Sauna: The sauna was great because you could adjust the heat by moving up the wooden bleachers. There was also plenty of space to stretch out and lie down. There were wooden half-cylinder blocks to place under the neck and back to promote blood flow. My partner's favorite standout was the salt scrub they have that's free to take at the refreshments table. You use it to scrub away dead skin in the shower and steam room. My favorite was the bowl of towels buried in ice cubes that helped me keep a cool head in the hot tub and sauna room. I will say that the thing that makes OnsenSF stand out is their dining pop-ups, but there's plenty of dining options on Fillmore and in Japantown. I would definitely go back to Kabuki again. The experience was incredibly relaxing. Highly recommend.

Possibly the best bathhouse in the Bay Area…read more Kabuki Springs is tucked away off a busy street in Japantown and feels like a portal to another dimension, one full of warm water, a quiet atmosphere, and plenty of lemon ginger tea. I was instantly drawn to how intentional everything feels here, from the dark wood of the sauna to the sleek tile in the showers. It feels carefully crafted to be both modern and timeless, with the Japanese motif flowing through all of the design. Personally, I love the dim lighting in the baths; with no windows, it feels like time is suspended. Is it midday, or midnight? Sunny, stormy? Early, late? You can't really tell when you're there, and that feels like the point. It's an escape in its truest, most relaxing sense. Attendants are constant in the baths, which makes it feel far more luxurious than what the price would suggest. Cucumber, lemon, or plain water are all on tap, as are iced hand towels, salt scrubs for the steam room, and hot lemon ginger tea. I loved how cups are encouraged to be reused (I hate seeing the giant pile of single-use cups in the trash at other spas). I'm holding out hope, however, that traditional green tea may make an appearance in the future! I'd recommend attending on one of the single-gender days, as I found that lent itself best to the fully immersive experience. Shower sandals are available, though I found them a bit uncomfortable. Next time I'll be sure to bring my own. As a bathhouse enthusiast, I cannot recommend this place enough. I can't wait to bring my friends here to learn for themselves just how relaxing and rejuvenating the sauna, steam, soak, and plunge rotation can be.

They are plastic and incredibly slippery when wet. Since they are not sized to the individual, it's dangerous. I slipped out of my sandals and fell down the stairs in the large Russian Sauna. This resulted in multiple abrasions and a large laceration on my forearm and I actually got stitches for the first time. Sandals have to be fixed, there's stairs everywhere here. The people in the sauna were super nice and helped me, luckily, I'm pretty fit, but it could've been really really bad. Credit to the staff for not charging me for my time there, honestly, I would've rather paid and left uninjured. I hate to leave a bad review, especially since the lady at the check-in desk was extremely kind, polite, and nice. However, various aspects of this place were unacceptable. It was my first visit, which I will never revisit due to the following reasons. First, Onsen charges $50 for an entrance fee, which we are allowed to stay for two hours. However, the overall service I got was not worth the price at all. 1. I was there for the ladies-only day. The locker room area was TOO small and fully crowded to use. I waited for 7-8 minutes until people started leaving and had more space inside to squeeze in, while other people who were standing, naked and covered with towels, tried to get to their lockers. That was the check-in, and when I left, it was the same case for getting ready for check-out. I became one of the towel-covered naked people who were waiting to get to the locker, while other people were staying in the same form. I felt like I was in a low-budget high school female locker room. 2. The lotion in the female locker area was out. I purposely placed the bottle at the edge of the amenity area so that they would refill it, but in the end, the empty bottle was returned to the original spot with the inside still empty. 3. The bathing area is relatively small. And there are only two shower heads we could use, with very low pressure and dripping water, besides the larger water shower head for those who prefer cold water after bathing. The pressure was too low, and we could hardly wash our bodies to rinse off the soap. Nobody was washing their hair, and I couldn't wash mine either due to the amazingly TOO low pressure shower, which was rather dripping water from the showerhead. 4. Including the empty lotion in the powder room, their amenity inside had no label, only a self-posted "shampoo" label. It would have been nicer if we could have known what we were getting for our body, such as organic, vegan, not animal-tested, or a decent brand, etc. 5. During my two-hour stay, the cleaning person came inside the female bath area a few times to remove the used towels, but didn't care about cleaning other things inside. In such a small bathing space, there were about 20 used cups left all over, which was quite disturbing. 6. I know this is not their fault, but two young ladies inside KEPT talking for two hours quite loudly. At first, I thought I was being too sensitive, but when I moved to the sauna area, people inside whispered and complained about the chat noise they were making. I couldn't relax at all because of their private and personal stories about their work, guys they met, etc. In the end, I couldn't stop wondering if those types of young ladies are regular customers at Onsen. 7. This is the most disgusting part, which, as mentioned, I will never go back to this place. When I was getting ready to leave at the exit spot, I saw a cleaning person using the same wet cloth she had wiped the floor with, rubbing the used sandals they were providing to their guests. According to my common sense, those shared sandals/slippers are sanitized after each use, or if not, they are at least rinsed with hot water and soap, and possibly treated with a sanitizing spray. I've been to other spas in the city, like Pxxxx Spa, which constantly cleans the shared items, such as slippers, combs, and hair dryers. I didn't see any of those "caring" and "safe" considerations to maintain cleanliness for shared items for the guests at Onsen. Lastly, I felt like naming this place 'Onsen' is almost a big joke and an insult to real onsens in Japan, where we could relax in such a clean and pampering atmosphere in tranquility.

The basic scrub is 30 minutes but I highly recommend going for the body scrub acupressure 90 minutes service. The men's and women's areas are separate, which is nice, but the shoe lockers don't actually lock (though you do get a bracelet for your main locker). A few quirks: the water cups are so tiny they are like shot glasses, and they leave the massage room doors open during the session. I think I'll try Kabuki Spa next time to compare.

VERY RUDE. Called a few times, and finally someone answered and i let him know i had questions…read moreregaring their services. Told me to look at the website, and wouldn't give me any info. and then hung up. Very disappointing

I booked a couples massage for the 3rd week of October, in celebration of my partner's birthday…read more M Spa staff was great in informing me that it would have to be 2 separate rooms, but at the same time. They also informed me that due to the size of the facility and for the best experience of all patrons, members can arrive no more than 30 minutes before to use the facilities. They also informed me that parking could be difficult, due to it being the Castro, so plan ahead. As somebody who thinks himself as a master planner, I felt like I had the perfect birthday planned. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that this same spa date at M Spa aligned with the Pumpkin event in Half Moon Bay. After our 2 hour brunch appointment at Navio, we were stuck in traffic blitz where Google Maps, Apple Maps, and the Tesla navigation kept pushing the ETA to the right. Two hours before the appointment, I called M Spa and asked if there were any later appointments for that Saturday. Unfortunately, they were already fully booked (lesson - book far in advance to secure your spot). I called again an hour before the appointment and informed them that we cannot make it. I asked if I can reschedule and they indicated that since it was my first time, they would gladly honor the rescheduling without charging me any fees (which was extremely gracious). That amount of customer service earned them the 5 stars. When we finally went, the week after, I made sure we were in the Castro area an hour before. We wondered around until it was the 30 minutes before the appointment to use their facilities. They had a very clean and tidy locker room area for members to put their personal belongings and to change into their robes. There was also a 2 stall shower and a steam room where 3 people can fit. The lounge area was also calming and came equipped with tea and snacks. The staff went above and beyond, and after our amazing 90 minute massages, which left us floating and wanting to come back, they made settling the bill simple and even gave us 15% off our next service. I love you M Spa. You truly set the bar.
