Chose this place because it had decent reviews, but it was a hard no for me. No I didn't have high expectations because I hated that I was cheating on my nail lady back home LOL, but two broken acrylic nails was not the move. My nails didn't even last a week before they started to lift . The shape was just bulky and uneven. Work was messy. The ladies were super nice but quality of work was bad. The lady spent at least 30min trying to file one nail. I didn't even have time to correct anything as I was in a rush. I spent almost 3 hours for a fill and pedicure. Pedicure was somewhat decent . My hubby and I were walking around Japan Town and on our way back to our car, we walked passed Trio Nails. I thought I could use a pedicure, so we took a peek to see if we could do a walk-in and the ladies gladly took us in. We were the only ones in the salon and the two sweet ladies asked us if we wanted hot tea or water. I asked for the hot tea and they came out with hot tea and peanut butter pretzel bites, which I thought was a nice touch. Looking at their prices, we learned that they do massage services. So while I was getting a pedicure, my hubby got a 30 minute neck and shoulder massage. Everything was going great and they were taking their time with us, until another customer walked in. That's where I felt the service went down. The lady working on my pedicure picked up her pace so the other lady won't have to wait long - and I get it. There's only two of them in the salon at the moment, but I definitely felt rushed. My pedicure turned out nice though. It didn't look sloppy at all even though I felt rushed at the end. The shop is a fairly peaceful oasis that has availability for clients at 6pm, and unfortunately, I see why. Though the people providing the service are friendly, sweet and kind, the service itself left me disappointed. While sitting in the salon, I was relieved that I wasn't there for gel or acrylic, after reading the disappointing reviews. What I didn't realize was that they didn't have standards for any of their licensed skills. A rushed polish on my nails left a disaster on my cuticles. Been here a few times now as I just moved to the area. They are super sweet and helpful at Trio nails. You get offered endless amounts of water/tea AND peanut butter pretzels. Score. Come hungry. They always ask if your comfortable and if you want your massage chair on. Also, the attention to detail on your mani is great. So far I've only gotten gel manicures ($25) and they've all been amazing and last the standard two weeks. They also give you gloves to protect your vulnerable little hands from cancerous UV lights - another score. Overall, Trio will now be my new go-to nail salon in SF. This review is based solely on the manicure job that I received. I must say that the staff is nice and warm, but when it comes to the technical skills and actual manicure service, I must give only 1 star. The lady that greeted me was very nice and welcoming. From her interactions with the other staff, she seemed like she was the boss? As soon as I sat down, she immediately started cutting my nails without asking me. Then she started cutting them the shortest that they could be and in three cuts, taking off every white part. When she filed, she was in such a hurry that she left so many jagged edges. I get that she wanted to be quick so that she could serve the other customers, but legit, she just left my nails with misshaped corners. Since she was in such a hurry, she glopped on the polish, getting them all over my cuticles and skin. I was left with a terrible manicure that looked like my niece did on me. I get that any manicure may not be perfect, but come on, I'm still paying money for it. She literally must have just spent 10 mins on me from beginning to end. I asked her to fix it, pointing out the jagged edges; but she didn't understand what I was saying. She merely took a nail file on my already painted nails and just tried to file them down. Who files nails when they're already painted?? I'm upset at myself that I walked in here in the first place and paid money for this manicure. As soon as I got home, I immediately removed the polish and filed them again to fix the jagged edges. read more

Love. Love. Love. This place! Best no-frills mani-pedi in San Francisco! Most importantly, the price is right. $25 cash, type of so right. Jenny, the owner, is super sweet. I always walk-in late, and she will usually take me anyway. I feel really comfortable here. I don't get the feeling that people are talking about me. Plus, they aren't so cheap that things are done too cheaply (no trash bag in a WalMart foot spa here). They actually soak your feet in a big stainless steel bowl with lemons and pebbles (note: spa chair pedicures are more prone to causing infections if not properly cleaned, and they are not easily cleaned). Jenny just got another rack for the wall and filled it up with Essie and more OPI. They also keep things up to date with the best trashy magazines and fashion periodicals. This place also does the acrylic fill type of stuff, but they don't do a huge amount of nail art. I would actually not recommend getting waxed here though... Got my eyebrows waxed for $5, and yes, they looked like I got them waxed for $5 dollars (this is where you should know better, in general). I suppose legs and arms would be a different story... I hesitate to give this place such an average review because the workers were all very friendly, but my experience here was just okay. The location is great though, if you're hanging out in Japantown for the day and you want to take a mani break. I realize that with such a low price for their services, I shouldn't hold very high expectations. The regular mani/pedi for myself was great. Chairs were comfy, and for your feet they give you this giant bowl of *blue* water (looks like that bright blue toilet water) with a few lemon slices floating around. The lady who helped me provided nice hand/foot massages, and the scrub was pleasant too -- I felt like she was scraping off all the dead cells on my soles. Yay! If you're going in for a regular service, this place deserves 5 stars. My friend's manicure, however, was so subpar that I felt obligated to add this to my review. She got a French manicure done with acrylics, and it took well over an hour to get the whole thing done. At the end, three of her nails were "cloudy" -- you could very clearly see white specks in the section of the nail where it's supposed to look clear/nude. Eventually, the whole process just took so long that my friend didn't even insist on redoing those nails because she simply didn't want to stay there longer. If you do decide on this salon, I recommend making an appointment. We were lucky and got immediate service after walking in (around 2:30pm on a Saturday), but of course, a few people arrived after us and were told they had to wait half an hour. After reading the other reviews on here -- I got very sad because while they did offer me water or hot tea, they didn't offer me anything else! This shop has true professionalism! After my last review Hannah reached out to me and apologized for my experience. She even offered to redo my gel manicure. i went in the next week to take her up on her offer and received superb excellent service. There was a few girls ahead of me and I patiently waited. Hannah asked if I could wait about 10 minutes and I had no problem with waiting. She finished with the girl she was originally working on before starting on me. She took her time and effortlessly got the corners and tips of my nails. Before sending my hand under the lamp she checked to make sure the coat was even each time. The lady who did my nails the first time apologized for last time and I felt really bad about my review, but it was mainly for advice and better service for not only me, but for everyone else coming in. 1.5 stars: missed steps, bad french tip, no massage, musical chairs Came here with three other girls. Saw great reviews on yelp and it was in the area we wanted.. also they had gel nails at a steal price $25! I'm guessing they named themselves "Trio Nails" because there are 3 ladies working. Expecting one of us to sit out, I was surprised when their played musical chairs and had a different worker on each step of the manicure process. I don't know about you, but I like it when one person works on my nails because it feels more personable and they start to develop a small relationship with your nails getting to know shape, thickness, etc. Obsessed with nail polish and manicures, I've been to my fair share of nail salons and was disappointed when they started my manicure without soaking it to soften the cuticles. The other girls said that they got that... maybe that step of mine was forgotten since they were playing musical chairs? One of the ladies proceeded to start cutting my nails and filing it and pushing back my DRY cuticles and cutting the hang nails. Great. After applying the gel polish, french tip, and then gel top coat, I already noticed that my right thumb didn't have a straight line and the white color was bleeding into the clear. The thumb is the most important finger... The gel dries almost instantly in 3 minutes under the uv light which is good since I usually accidently smear it or mess it up. I didn't get that five minute massage that they usually do with warm lotion at other nail salons. Business wasn't even busy besides my girls and I so there shouldn't be any excuse. I expected to be there at least 2 hours but only spent 45 minutes on all 4 of us.. which is good but I prefer quality over quantity. With tip included the total for french gel nails was $30. I think next time I'll pay the extra $10 and get a better one elsewhere. read more

I went here for the first time the other day with a friend as a treat and got a gel manicure. The experience was on par with other people's reviews: peanut butter pretzels, offers of water and tea, etc. A lot of fun, but not what this review is about. Unfortunately, my nails immediately lifting the next day, which was really upsetting especially since it had been a bit pricey for me as a broke college student, and the salon is on the other side of the city from where I live. However, I stopped in today after work to get them fixed, not expecting much, perhaps being blamed for my nails getting messed up. Instead, they quickly sat me down and realized that my nails hadn't properly dried the other day I was there, which was the fault of the machine and not the manicurist. They redid the whole gel manicure for free (going the extra steps to dry my mani multiple times to ensure that it would be fully dry), and even refused tip! never going back here. They do acrylics near my house so I have given them 2 chances. Both times the acrylic was SOOO thick that it would peel off the bottom of my cuticle and come off. I got them done last week and fell off by the end of the week. I was so utterly disappointed and honestly want my money back.
