    Deviled eggs from hell
    Ryan B.

Review for The Back Eddy - Westport, MA Rolled in on a Monday evening, solo at first because my other half was running fashionably late (emphasis on the fashionably). I asked the hostess if I could still snag a table for two, even though I was flying solo for the moment, and she smiled and said, "No problem." Honestly? Bless her. Some places treat you like you're trying to pull off a bank heist if your full party isn't present. The vibe? Laid-back coastal cool with just enough buzz to feel alive without needing to shout over the table. The kitchen's wide open, so you can watch the culinary chaos--or genius--unfold. And that view? Pure postcard. Boats gently bobbing in the bay, sun dipping low like it's trying to flirt with the horizon. You will feel like you're in a Nicholas Sparks novel--but with better food. While I waited, they brought me a tiny bowl of house-made pickles. Tiny bowl, big flavor. Thick-cut, briny, just the right amount of pucker. I sipped on a Buzzards Bay Local Flounder--golden, smooth, and perfect for a summer evening. Then I got bold and ordered the "Deviled Eggs from Hell." And By the power of Greyskull and questionable life choices, they did not disappoint! Light, flaky, spicy little flavor bombs. If Hell is serving these, hand me a pitchfork. Once my date arrived (cue applause), we dove into small plates like it was our job. The Maine mussels? Drenched in hoisin, coconut milk, and spice--like Thai street food met a Cape Cod fisherman and made magic. Bonus points for the thick-cut toasted bread they serve on the side, ideal for sauce-mopping. (And yes, we mopped.) Next came the stuffed clams with chorizo and corn--so good we barely made eye contact. Gone in sixty seconds. For our token attempt at balance, we shared a green salad, and it was actually lovely. Crisp greens, fresh veggies, and a vinaigrette that knew how to stay in its lane--flavorful without being clingy. The service? Stellar. My waitress was a gem, but even the rest of the team checked in, topped off water, dropped off plates, and sprinkled in a little friendly banter. It felt like everyone was in on making the night special. Would I come back? In a heartbeat. With or without my date. Preferably with. But either way, I'm ordering the deviled eggs again.

Good spot to chill by the water after a long day at the beach. They have a number of different seating options outside. Food prices are in the $20-$40 range. We got the classic fish and chips and the grilled swordfish. The fish and chips were quite good. The fish was lightly battered and fried just right. Service was very good. Overall it was a good experience though a bit pricey. Parking is somewhat limited.

One of the best restaurants on the Farm Coast. The chowder is terrific and excellent fish and chips. It is always busy during the summer, but the outside bar on the dock is a great place to grab a beverage while you wait for a table.

We rolled in around 5:30 on a Monday and apparently beat the dinner rush because there were still plenty of empty tables. Timing: impeccable. We were seated immediately at a high-top by the front window, and our waitress was right there with water, drink orders, and appetizer suggestions. No wandering around desperately trying to make eye contact with someone holding an iPad. We were off to a good start. The atmosphere here is always casual, lively, and cool. The bar? Always packed. Apparently everyone in Padanaram got the same memo. Now, the food. We started with the lobster rangoons -- crispy outside, creamy and gooey inside. Basically little fried envelopes of happiness. The Thai shrimp were tender and covered in a sweet coconut curry sauce. Delish. I could have happily kept dipping things into that sauce until someone asked me to leave. The New England clam chowder was exactly what chowder should be: creamy, savory, hearty, and satisfying. No unnecessary reinvention. New England knows what it's doing here. And then came the steamers, because when you're in New England, you get the steamers. It's practically a residency requirement. These were cooked perfectly -- tender without turning into seafood-flavored chewing gum -- and came with the traditional broth for rinsing away the sand and melted butter for adding back all the calories you just washed off. It's a beautiful system. The cocktails were fantastic, service was great, and the whole meal hit the spot. Sail Loft continues to be a solid Padanaram favorite. Come for the waterfront-town vibes, stay for the seafood, and definitely don't skip the lobster rangoons.

It's cute inside but a reservation is definitely a good idea as it was quite crowded. The drinks that we tried were all quite tasty. The calamari was good. The fried chicken Caesar wrap was great. It didn't have croutons so beware if you're looking for that, but it had great flavor. I was a little hesitant to have the peanut butter thing cheesecake as I don't know why you'd stray from the peanut butter thing. That being said, it was delicious and I would definitely get it again.

We generally sit outside during the summer months. We go to Horseneck Beach a lot and this place is a stable when we want a sit down dinner. They have a fire pit with wood, which I absolutely love. They also have a tent set up that has an outside bar and a lot of tables. We have sat inside before in October after surfing as it gets kind of chilly. I've had a lot of stuff on their menu. I'd have to say my favorite dish is their eggplant fries. They are cooked perfectly every time, come with an aïoli and are really just absolutely one of my favorite foods. The picture I posted is from a lobster BLT special and as you can tell, they didn't skimp on the lobster. I've also had their lobster roll, which is absolutely delicious. They have homemade coleslaw that accompany many of the dishes and I highly recommend that too. The staff is always great, especially considering that most of them are part-time and working a summer job. They carry soda from a local soda company, which is awesome as they support all local businesses, including breweries. The drinks are a little pricey, but aligned with other places that are open seasonally around the area. They have an extensive dessert menu with quite a few homemade desserts. I've liked everyone that I've had from them! This will remain in our restaurant rotation, and I would suggest that you check it out for yourself. It's a great family owned restaurant that makes you feel like family.

We popped in here at dinner time looking for a casual meal. Surprisingly to us, when we got there, they said they were almost out of food and they'd grab whatever they had if we were ok with it. We were totally fine with this! They brought out 3 chicken wings, some fries and a beer for Caleb, and lucky for us, they had a burger and chicken sandwich left, so we got to have a proper dinner! The food was delicious! The perfect backyard bbq food you could have. The inside is small, but has a nice bar and some tunes playing. Outdoors there is ample seating, along with an outdoor bar, yard games, and kids games. This is one of the most welcoming places we've been and the owner is a gem. He gave us a free cookie as well and offered some more beer if we wanted to hang out in the backyard. We will definitely be back! This is not too far from the Westport beaches, so a definite stop in if you are in the area. Thanks for your hospitality Backyard! Lentz_explore

If you like a cold beverage with your burger, they have a great selection of local beers and wines. The atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming, and unpretentious. The weather the day I went was ideal. The cold lobster roll is a decent offering. At $28, it's not super expensive, compared to spots closer to Boston. While it's not a huge roll, the lobster was decently tender and had modest flavor. It did not have too much mayo or filler. Not the most amazing lobster I've ever had but it's a good offering. The frozen lemonade, while it's about 8-10 oz, is nice deal at $2. The drink was smooth and not too sweet. Service was friendly enough and did not negate the good experience. The restaurant was clean and tidy, which can be the opposite at some of these clam/lobster shacks.

While we sat on the bench to get a table assigned to us we had a drink. For those who love frozen drinks this is your Mecca. There is a huge variety to choose from. I will caution you they are very pricing at $16 a glass. The better option is a flight of 4 small glasses for $21. The menu is extremely limited with a focus on oysters and lobster rolls. They do have a small bowl of chowder for $8. Again pricey for a cup but it was delicious. Now I am a lobster roll snob so I had to be critical. The serving of meat for a $28 roll that comes with chips was sufficient. My one critique that took away a full star is the mayo was very watery and made the hot dog roll very mushy. That is a huge turn off for me. If I go again I would ask for the lobster plain and get the mayo or butter on the side. The view is lovely and the staff very friendly so it is definitely worth the trip.
