    Catfish platter

This was our first visit since they rebranded to The Back Porch. The restaurant, formerly Captain Jack's, has a nice back porch seating area overlooking the river. We started with the Fernandina Flatbread. A crispy thin crust topped with sweet onion jam, mozzarella cheese, brisket, and drizzled with balsamic glaze. It was an amazing combination. We were truly impressed with this appetizer and will return for it in the future. We shared the seafood platter of catfish with waffle fries. The catfish was a large, lightly battered fillet. It arrived flaky and hot. The batter enhanced the flavor of the catfish without overwhelming it. The waffle fries were lightly salted and a perfect complement to the fish. We added a side of cornbread. It was slightly sweet and buttery. The entire entree worked well together. All staff members were friendly and efficient on a weekday visit. They offer a full bar and cold beer. However they do not offer hard ciders at this time.

Atmosphere is 10/10. The porch is absolutely gorgeous and they've done a great job. We ordered the Brussel sprouts appetizer and it was really good. Fried shrimp basket was great. Loaded baked potato was pretty good. I enjoyed the shrimp and grits but I've had better. Food should have been warmer. Service was okay. I didn't try the salad bar but it looked great. Waffle fries were really good.

Came here for happy hour and stayed for dinner. The dog friendly porch was breezy and clean and our Bassets had a fresh bowl of water. The smoked chicken and the smoked pulled pork were absolutely delicious. Great service!

Management has changed the name from Captain Jacks and rebranded it to "The Back Porch Southern Eats. Same owners just added more country meals. I wanted the Brisket today but apparently their smoker was down for whatever reason. Got my usual St Louis Ribs as a back up. Always delish. I was hesitant on getting the waffle fries but they're actually pretty good. Nice crunchy shell and tender on the inside. Baked Beans are so so. I prefer my beans with no Cinnamon taste. I think it ruins the BBQ taste. My wife got the Barn Burner Chicken Sandwich. Great flavor! A definite must try. She had them put the Hot Honey sauce on the side which either way would have been good. We will be back again!

Waited too long for food! Our waiter kept apologizing. They told us the kitchen was behind. They offered us cobbler for dessert but we declined. Took 10% off the meal! The table next to us was also complaining about the time it took to get their food as well. Apparently they had been there 2 hours before receiving food! The food was good when it came though. Not sure if it was staff issue or what but I have seen several reviews about the long wait time. My kid a cheeseburger sliders with Mac n cheese which I ordered as soon as we sat down! His order which was our initial order took long a long time for a kids meal. We ordered wings as an appetizer and they were good but there was long amount of time between our appetizer and entrees! I had the seafood combo of catfish and shrimp with fries. My friend has a full rack of ribs with fries! Our food was good Just wished it would have come sooner! The place didn't seem busy at all! We arrived around 6pm on a Thursday!

First time back since the rebrand to The Back Porch (formally Captain Jack's). Came for dinner & sat outside which is an ambient setting overlooking the river. Classic Southern food & done very well by chef Andre. We had the turkey BLT, back porch burger... but the star of the show was the chicken pot pie along with the Gouda grits. Delicious! The service was excellent and the staff very attentive and friendly. We'll be back!!

Love sitting outside on the back porch. We got the chicken fried steak, fried shrimp basket, shrimp and grits, chicken puff pie, and a loaded baked potato with the salad bar. Everything was soooooo good (a little too much salt in every meal which is why it's only 4 stars. I would rather it need a bit of salt when I receive the meal then it being over salted). Still really good

Look at their photo on the internet and look at that burnt and gross tasted exactly like it looked

First of all, my husband ordered a platter of shrimp. He got eight shrimp and a couple fries and three hush puppies, no coleslaw and ordered a brussel sprout salad. It was burnt. I wanted a baked potato but they were out of them. The whole meal basically sucked would not recommend for anyone to go The manager was rude and wouldn't let the waitress come back to the table. Still left her a good tip which charged extra for the soup that was supposed to be added to his bill. $10 for a bowl of soup but they took the brussel sprouts off. Definitely do not go there. The management sucks and the food sucks

Sticky Bones - fried pork ribs with a brown sugar bourbon glaze and house-made pickles

When staying near the beach at Amelia Island this place was in the perfect spot! These sticky bones were the star of the show and I could've eaten the whole plate - unfortunately I had to share they were perfectly tender and the sauce that comes with was the perfect touch of sweetness. I got the classic sandwich and the pulled pork was too salty but still had good flavor, the baked beans were very sweet if you're into that sort of thing! The restaurant was very nice and the servers were accommodating!!

My 3rd trip. Seated quickly. Waitress did a good job. My husband had Goood BBQ, my smoked chicken was delicious. As was my loaded baked potato and fried okra. The cornbread is always good. Just glad to find a good place to eat barbecue. I was able to take half of my food home.

    Pulled pork Patio Platter

Yesterday was such a beautiful day so my husband & I decided to go to Happy Hour at The Back Porch. We sat on the porch outside which is super pretty with all of the trees & vegetation surrounding it. Happy Hour starts at 3PM & goes until 6. They offer buy one get one domestic beers & wine. They also have $2 off of their signature cocktails. Plus $9 Small Bites. We started off with some red wine & a pulled pork Porch Platter. That's our go to meal. It's always great. After another glass of wine I ordered a Bike Wreck signature cocktail. The drink itself was really cute & it also tasted good as well. We stayed for a few hours so we ended up needing one more bite to eat. We ordered the little bacon slider burgers. Very tasty. Loved the candied bacon jelly. Our server was Miranda and she was a total sweetheart. Attentive but not overbearing. She helped make our visit fun & relaxing. So if you're looking for a place that's not overcrowded. Offers great food, drink, service & beautiful sunset views I'd absolutely recommend The Back Porch.

Cup of soup, fried Okra, hamburger and waffle fries. With tip, nearly $40.

The decor really hasn't changed; it's still one of the nicest rooms on the island. We showed up with three bottles of wine from deep in our cellar, and they handled them well. I offered to cork the 2015 Chablis, as I was a little unsure about the cork stability, and they were fine with that. (By the by, the wine was fine; absolutely wonderful, in fact). Our party of 7 ordered across the menu; the burrata starter (with an extra order of focaccia, as suggested by the server), the meatballs, the suppli, and 1/2 dozen of the east coast oysters. The oysters were great; small, shallow cup, briny and fresh. The suppli were small, but cut into bite size portions, we shared them around, and the taste was all there. The meatballs were slightly smaller than we thought they'd be, but they were meaty, juicy, and came in a ragu that perfectly complemented them. The burrata was the star of the show; fresh, milky, and accompanied with diced tomatoes, onions and strawberries. We were in luck with out entrees; they had their burger on the menu. The burger is made from scraps of their Waygu steak. It was served on a toasted brioche bun with melted cheese, house burger sauce, and house made pickles. The fries were delivered extra crispy, as I requested. It was one of the best burgers I've ever had. Truly spectacular. The pastas really shone; the lobster ravioli were wonderful (though the portion was a little smaller than we thought is should be) with thin hand stuffed pasta and plentiful lobster filling; the pasta carbonara was wonderful (and prepared with guanciale, as it should be), and the English pea and mint agnolotti was a vegetarian's dream. The smoked chicken lasagna was a huge portion served in a cast iron coquette; I seem to recall it from the old menu, and it was as good as always. We were all stuffed after our feast, but we still had room to share some of the mini cannolis. They were made à la minute; no mushy pastry shell here. First class dessert Service was good, pricing was reasonable, and the atmosphere was lovely; highly recommended for modern Italian on Amelia Island.

I realize restaurants are on a schedule and expect my food to be at a different level. This was not the case here. It was perfect. It is important to note that we came in at 2:30 in the afternoon and were the only customers in the place. Sometimes this means the food would be leftovers from lunch but everything we ate was very fresh. I had the sliced pork. The slices were a quarter inch thick and to big to eat in 1 bite. The pork was fork tender even at that thickness so I did not need a knife. I would say it was THE BEST restaurant sliced pork I have ever had. I asked about a spicy sauce and was told they have something called Big Poppas that stays in the back and she brought me some. It was a really good spicy sauce but not so overwhelming that you couldn't taste the meat. The fries were just fries but they were hit and crispy. I had baked beans. They had really good flavor and chunks of pork mixed in for an added bonus. This was also fresh and hot. My wife had the brisket plate and said the same about her food. She took home more brisket than she ate. It was huge.
