I indulged in a Parmesan bagel with vegetable cream cheese - it was spread pretty thick so next time I know to go lighter on it. Service was relatively quick too. The girl that took our cash was sweet. It couldn't figure out the math to give us change. I had to walk her through it. It took twenty minutes to get our order of two coffees while eight other orders got theirs with food. The "barista" could only manage doing one coffee at a time and got both of them wrong. Mine was supposed to be iced not hot. Wrong flavors were added and new husband spent the rest of the day on the verge of puking from whatever atrocious flavor was in his drink. Quality and service has really dropped. Bought a half dozen assorted bagels and when I got home and sliced them, 4 of the bagels(3 of which were different varieties) were not baked all the way. Service wise, the counter staff doesn't seem to operate efficiently. I have waited 30 minutes for a single bacon, egg and cheese sandwich several times now. Staff and management seems to be focused more on socializing then getting quality product to the customer in a timely fashion. read more

Stopped in to pick up bagels for my brother and wife. Once we got home, we saw that they had shorted us one bagel. I thought It May have been missed in the order due to wearing a mask and my voice being muffled. I called in and spoke to Kevin. He checked the order and realized that it had been missed. He offered to deliver the missed bagel out to our house. We live in East Helena out by Canyon Ferry. He drove the bagel out and apologized for the mix up. I am floored by the customer service. The Bagel Co has always been my favorite place to grab breakfast in town. Everyone that I have encountered has been helpful and personable. I have been eating Bagel Co bagels my entire life. My husband and myself ALWAYS bring our out of town friends here when they come visit. I have never had a bagel I didn't like, and the twists are BOMB. Recently I started online ordering before I leave my house in East Helena, so I can grab and go to get to work on time. The last time I ordered, I asked for a redbull with Torani to go with my Bagel--the owner called me on my way to work to let me know they were out of regular redbull, and asked if he could substitute with sugar free. IMPRESSIVE!! They always greet me with a smile, and after only a few times of this, they know who I am. That is such a good feeling, and one you seem to only find in local businesses. My family and I have been going to the bagel co. my whole life...My parents are older and they recently went there. There were people in there not wearing masks, when my mom asked the lady about it, she was very rude and said that they dont care. This is really upsetting I guess they dont care about endangering other customers health or their own. So unfortunately they lost customers. I have loved The Bagel Co since they opened about 25 years ago, but they have recently sold and other than the bagels themselves, it's not the same. :( I have only two complaints, but they're enough that I may have to choose somewhere else for coffee and a bagel in the mornings and only get bagels to go for toasting/etc. at home going forward. My first complaint is that they have stopped using whipped cream cheese and are now using regular cream cheese that is often very cold and it is layered on in such large amounts that I have to scrape much of it off. My second complaint is the staff, they're just not as friendly or helpful and they're dramatically slower for reasons that I don't understand. One day when I was in they didn't even take my order for at least five minutes with no one else in line and two of the staff talking to someone that they knew that had come in. I'm very sad about this turn of events for a place that has been a regular stop for me for over two decades. I will continue to stop by occasionally to see if they can get things sorted, but I will start going to The Hub to get their bagels and coffee in the future. read more

We meet here regularly, but only because it is one of the few places in Helena that have a large meeting room. The bagels are ok. The coffee tasted burnt. My problem with this place is the inconsistency. Sometimes my bagel is burned, sometimes not toasted at all. Coffee (lattes) are the same way. Sometimes they are sweet and sometimes the flavoring is off. We won't even talk about the inconsistent foam. This is a great space, but the staff attitudes need improvement. The younger college aged students get frustrated easily with orders and being understaffed which makes for an unpleasant visit. You can always tell when the owners or managers are in the house... the staff is friendly and attentive. If not... you might get eye contact if you are lucky. read more

The bagels here are excellent. They remind me of bagels from NY, and they have really good flavors like cheddar/jalapeño, everything, Asiago cheese. Also, you can get them with cream cheese, and they are yummy. I've had their bagel sandwiches for lunch, but not really impressed. They have such good bagels but the sandwiches are a bad deal, so it seems like a missed opportunity there. They only put one small slice of meat, and no cheese. Also, they charge $7.75 for that and I definitely think it's a rip off. Heck, just google " bagel sandwich" and any photo that you see will look 10 times better than what they are trying to pass off as a sandwich here. I've tried twice now and they were both like that, so I really don't recommend buying their bagel sandwich. That's probably why I went there at lunchtime and the place was super empty. I do recommend buying their bagels and making your own sandwich though. Their coffee is good too. read more

Friendly service & decent bagels. Egg sandwich was a little overdone but enjoyed the tasty bacon on it. Solid coffee too. Main knock was quite a few dirty tables with not a ton of places to sit at first. Once they got around to cleaning up (some younger employees were just hanging around prior doing nothing) I settled into a booth at the window & enjoyed the snow outside for a bit. Had a secondary blueberry scone after the bagel (quite hungry that morning) and it was very tasty. Will for sure be back as it is a short walk from our hotel we stay at for work. read more

FILTHY!! Let be begin by saying that I used to love The Bagel Co. It was, at one time, my favorite spot to stop for a quick bite and some good coffee. The help has always been ....... "Eccentric" to say the least, but a some point it turned from eccentric, to a narcotics rehab center or something. When someone PHYSICALLY LOOKS DIRTY, you know hygiene has become a forgotten part of their past. That makes me concerned about the hygiene in the kitchen and what I'm about to put in my mouth! The whole place is simply gross. The bathrooms didn't look like they had been cleaned in quite some time. There was urine, not only on the floor, but visibly on the walls(plural!). Garbages were overflowing on the floor. The kids area(which I always liked by the way), although having plenty of fun toys for the kids, were covered in grime. I do not believe any of them have ever been wiped down much less actually cleaned. THE STRAW ON THE CAMELS BACK: I understand that at any given moment, someone could spill something on the linoleum floor and it becomes sticky. CARPET SHOULD NOT BE STICKY!!!! This was by far the most disgusting part of my experience. The carpet had a black streak from the door to the counter. This was not wear and tear, it was gooo. After walking on their carpet my shoes became like big stickers that collected all the crud that's never been swept up. Perhaps that's how they clean the floor... a sort of pack it in pack it out plan. Aside from wondering if I was going to get Hepatitis somehow I now feel the need to wash my shoes... who does that? I'm pretty sure this place is what happens when you let college kids majoring in women's studies or ethnic music of island cultures run your business. I just paid $9 for coffee (grounds included), a bagel with a pat of cream cheese & a smoothie. Verrrrrrry poor customer service, be prepared to ask for EVERYTHING because they're not going to include it with your order, & don't ask the prices of things unless you want to have daggers shot at you. Great bagels, bad staff. The one on last chance doesn't have bad service imo, but don't even go to the one by the capital. I cannot complain about the food: the bagels and sandwiches are awesome. But the staff seems like they're bothered that you're there. Last time the guy waiting on me was mumbling/whispering to me and I asked him to speak up or repeat what he said every time he spoke. Service is slow, and the employees seem to dink around and talk to each other alot. I got a coffee drink and the employee seemed unaware of how to properly make espresso, pulling ~12oz of water through two shots. I have been going to the Bagel Company five days a week for almost 2 yrs. now and I have to say they are truly "The Best". The coffee and my breakfast sandwich are made fresh on the spot and are truly the best in town. The owner Kevin and the whole crew that work there are amazing! There is not a day that I go there and leave there without a warm and welcoming "good morning" and "have a great day". I sincerely appreciate "ALL" that they do for their customers, they are a regular start to my day and I am a person who does all that can be done to have a positive day and I would not choose to go anywhere else. The bagels are inconsistent and expensive. Service is inconsistent. Anything touching a garlic bagel is transformed into a garlic bagel. Some employees get this, some don't. I am so tired of my sweet bagels being piled on top of the garlic bagel my spouse likes. Bagels are the best in town, because their only competitors are supermarkets. read more

Never had a problem with any of the food or the staff. Everyone is always very friendly and the food is prepared and cooked well. Sometimes bagels get a little darker than store bought because they're cooked there. Don't get turned off by the eggs appearance. It's all fresh and not pre-cooked or sitting under a heat lamp like some places. Sometimes the staff might be a little less enthusiast when you order 12 sandwich bagels with drinks and fail to leave a tip. Like I said great service and great food. P.S. Used to eat here all the time. Something has happened with the staff though. Staff seems to have a terrible attitude and some of them are actively trying to get themselves put in jail while at work. Prices have become pretty rediculous as well. My biggest complaint was that the last time i went in i was harrassed by a member of the staff who made references about the location of my home. IF i get food from the bagel co. I order it through a third party and let them deal with some of the worst service ever. read more

We have been going to the Bagel Co for over 15 years! We come in almost every day for breakfast or lunch...some days both! Their bagels are the best! It is figured right in to our monthly budget! We love the people who work there too...it is our favorite place to relax! We have spent many hours visiting with family and friends and it has become our place to be. read more

I live one block away from the bagel shop. I have gone 3 times and will not go back. Extremely poor customer service. One young gal is particularly rude and indifferent. They also handle money and food with the same hands. I will instead walk 3 more blocks to another place in town . Today was my last visit to The Bagel Shop. I stood for several minutes waiting to pay for my coffee, while a girl was standing just 2 feet away preparing another's bagels. Was in on Friday morning to get bagels for an event later that day. Was helped by a non-interested employee who was not really helpful. I asked him three times if they could please cut them. He did not direct me to what I needed to do to pay. Later that day at my event as I went to serve the bagels and cream cheese I learned that they weren't cut and the reason I needed them cut was that it wasn't conducive to do it there.
