The Bagel Inn has much better quality bagels compared to the other area bagel places I've tried. There was a line out the door, and I waited about 10 or 15 minutes but it was well worth it. I read a post on FB group about Worcester yesterday. I went there this morning for breakfast sandwiches for my wife and I. She had the egg, sausage, cheese on jalapeño cheddar bagel. Huge and delicious! I had the Nova sandwich (that was featured in the post I read). Incredible with five slices of Nova, capers, red onion, tomato on everything bagel with chive cream cheese. OMG superb! Bought a half dozen and vegetable cream cheese, housemade. Great. Waited upon by the owner, Bill - class act! Will be back! To begin this awful expierence, we entered a near empty shop with maybe 1 other person in it. We had looked at the menu for maybe 2 minutes (as there are a lot of options and we didn't know what to get) and a worker yelled "what can i get you" and we politely said we might need another second to look, to which she looked annoyed and muttered something under her breath. when we were ready, my friend ordered a coffee and a bagel, and immediately after she ordered, the worker asked her a million questions as she could not remember what the order was. "what kind of bagel? what kind of coffee? which spread?" this usually wouldn't be this big of a deal, but the shop was empty and she was the only one ordering at the time. when i went to order, i ordered a refresher and a bagel (the one who took my order was the one who asked us if we were ready previously). when i added a drink to my order, she told me that i might have to remind her again at the end because she might forget. again, nobody in the store. this slightly confused me because as someone who works in a soda shop with hundreds of different drinks, it really isn't that difficult to remember a drink, and it certainly isn't normal to ask the customer to remind the worker of which drink she wanted. i ended up waiting 20 minutes for a refresher, when a man (who seemed to be running the place) asked me what i was waiting for, to which i replied "a medium kiwi watermelon refresher." he told me it would be out shortly, only we waited another 20 minutes before having to remind the staff once again i was waiting for my drink. finally, i got the drink, and it ended up being the wrong size. instead of requesting the size i ordered and waiting another 40 minutes, we made the decision to just leave. also, i payed 17 dollars for a bagel and a drink, and when i asked for the receipt the girl handed me a paper that didn't even include the prices of anything or how much i payed on it. the bagels were actually good, the drinks were not however. as people who work in an extremely similar establishment, we were beyond suprised by the lack of good service, and the staff should be given some kind of training to better deal with customers. read more

I've been here a couple times now. The food is pretty inconsistent, and the way the ordering process is set up is very inefficient which can sometimes cause a long line. The bagels themselves are good for mass (for the most part) but you 100% should NOT get a salt bagel. We ordered 4 and every single one of them is covered in so much salt that it was basically inedible (this coming from someone who adds salt to everything). That being said, the employees are nice and the restaurant is cute. i If you're in Holden and you want a solid bagel, I recommend it. read more

Really some of the friendliest service around. That being said I'm never disappointed in the quality of the food or the options on flavors of coffees. It's lap out of my way but any excuse I get to come here I will take it ! The bagels really are very fresh even the next day they are just a hundred times better than anything like Dunkin on their best day. A variety of different and creative cream cheese and spreads - we all know someone from NY that comes to visit from out of town and will say these are good but not as good as NY bagels and that's fine because that's a translation in NY speak to "wow these are actually really good ! ". Get a salad or sandwich to go for lunch and be stuffed from the portions - but I suggest this as the dine in experience isn't very relaxed and I would love it if they had doors you could push open as I've fumbled drinks on the way out trying to spin the knob on a busy morning. Outside of that tiny fact I wish they'd open another location across the street from my house ... tomorrow. :) read more

I have a real soft spot for the Bagel Inn -- I have NY bagel lineage, so I'm picky and I do wish these were a little chewier and blistered more when toasted, but their flavors are on point, the size is great, and the staff is just so friendly. It's a wonderful meeting place and I always love to keep an ear out for the local buzz, people are always chatty and kind. Their desserts are great -- I especially appreciate when they roll out something a little experimental, like rainbow cookie cake. They have an excellent homemade hash brown with big pieces of fried onion. They are very liberal with cardamom in their desserts, which I much appreciate-- the Swedish cardamom bagel is so unique, and they do a very flaky cinnamon bun. I have yet to try their sandwiches but their honey-ginger turkey looks wonderful, too. It's just a great local spot, laid back and relaxed. I think I've found my favorite standing order: a toasted cheddar bagel with scallion-bacon cream cheese and a hash brown in the middle. read more

Great place to enjoy a coffee and bagel. Fantastic selection of bagels, spreads, and coffee. They also make sandwiches and salads. The food is very good. The staff behind the counter is friendly and eager to help. The prices are reasonable (I ordered a sausage/bacon/egg/cheese sandwich on a cheddar cheese bagel, a French toast bagel with cinnamon swirl cream cheese, and a large coffee for about $12). The lobby is spacious and well lit. The bathroom was clean and neat. And there's plenty of parking. The coffee wasn't as strong as I like it, but that's the case in most places unless it's a coffee house. So, if don't expect great coffee unless you like it watered down. They also make smoothies, but I didn't try one. It wouldn't surprise me if this place had a very loyal clientele. The great customer service and good food would keep me coming back if I lived locally. read more

Great local cafe that serves up house made bagels, cream cheese, and bread! Just started coming here more regularly and can say that I think I will be a frequent flyer here. Their bagels might be *small* to some, but I think they're the perfect size. Soft fluffy insides with a nice crust on the outside, perfect chew all around. My current go-to is a BEC on cheddar jalapeño or poppyseed if I'm feeling savory and a French toast bagel with cinnamon swirl or mixed berry cream cheese if I'm feeling sweet. Everything just tastes freshly made and I couldn't be happier. Customer service I'd say is pretty good! I believe it's family owned and behind the counter can get hectic since the space is small, but they make it work and they make it work WELL. The people are always friendly and always ready to offer any help with a smile. Definitely recommend if you're driving by or happen to be a local looking for a new bagel to try! read more

This place does one thing really, really well: Bagels. And the interesting thing is there has not been, to my knowledge, one change to the menu in the several decades that i have been going there. Just stick to a toasted bagel with some cream cheese of your choice and don't be afraid to tell them to go light with it (they tend to go heavy, which some people like) and you'll be very Happy.....After all, it's Holden for god's sake. First time here. Rude customer service. I ordered a bagel with scallion cream cheese. They said we only have chive cream cheese. I pointed the one I want and she said those are chives not scallion. I said it looks like scallion to me. She answered that scallions and chives are the same thing and gave me a look. The entire store looked at me like I was stupid. I said chives and scallion are not the same and whatever.... just give me the chive cream cheese. She then wanted to correct me some more so she asked her coworker. Her coworker answered that it's scallion but they call it chives in their store. Professionally she could have said oops she learned something but no she decided to ignore me. I noticed that a lot of earlier reviews had issues with the service they received. It seems to me that this issue has been resolved, as everyone I interacted with yesterday was nothing but sweet and professional. All of the servers wore gloves, they followed my order to a T, and offered me my bagel with a smile. That said -- onto the food. I had a honey wheat bagel, toasted, with the scallion and bacon cream cheese on the side. I was hesitant to order cream cheese because I am very much a buttered bagel girl. I'm from the Midwest and the cream cheese you get tends to be the Philadelphia brand or nothing. Bagel Inn's cream cheese is a revelation. I can't believe I've lived in New England for so long thinking the cream cheese out here would be the same old stuff back home. Do it. You won't be sorry. *PLEASE READ* SO, to start this unpleasant experience, we had to stand outside in the dead heat for about 15 mins when there was 1 person in front of us in line. Next, when you go in there are so many signs and bags and cups and clutter you have no idea where to look. Bagels? Couldn't see them. Can't order if you can't see what your options are. So after a few tippy toe stands I was able to somewhat see bagel options and made my order. Next, chaos ensued, 5-6 employees fell over and reached over each other running around grabbing bagels and slapping some cream cheese on them and wiping knives and reusing them for different spreads. There was no order to anything, it was sloppy. Then while standing at the register the extremely rude cashier told us to move out of the way to ring up another customer that came in after us. Multiple people came and went and we were still waiting for our bagels and coffees. Finally we get the coffees and they are hobbit sized "mediums" when we ask if that is really a medium the rude cashier chimes in again "the cups are right there" and points to the mound of clutter on the counter. Finally we get our bagels, we pay, and as we walk out the door I say I'm writing a review as we pass the manager who asks what happened and I told him his staff was more than rude and he awkwardly tried to offer us everything under the sun to not write a review. Clearly he failed. Lastly, the coffees were awful and baby sized, the bagels were doughy and the cream cheese tasted sour. Don't waste your time or money here. read more

Used Groupon coupon to find this bagel shop in Holden. We are on the eternal quest to find a quality salt bagel. (table salt and no rock salt= huge disappointment). I was less than satisfied however my friend was very satisfied with our bagel choices. we should also admit their selection of bagels were very good. The customer service for pre-ordering on the phone was very friendly. We anticipated a warm experience however, once we got there- all friendliness was lost. They were clearly busy but not exactly welcoming. The physical atmosphere was satisfactory. Overall impression: Their bagels were average and far from extraordinary. But good/ok all the same. The owner, John, is a very nice friendly man, but the other older guy who works there is a miserable surly SOB-- I'm going to assume he's either the co-owner or John's brother because there is NO reason to keep this sorry sack on the payroll. But regardless, the bagels are authentic but that's as far as it goes. The eggs are microwaved and if you draw the short straw and get JImmy Cranky Pants waiting on you be prepared if you are not a townie to get rude service, an egg with cheese that must seem better to him if it's not actually melted OR on the sandwich and the delight of starting your morning with a snarl. The bagels are authentic yes, but that's as far as it goes. The coffee is mediocre and the lack of an actual grill means you're basically eating at a morning Subway (not a compliment). Those of you giving this place 4+ stars need to get out more. Overpriced, undercooked and you can find "real" bagels in plenty of other places. read more

The chicken is moist and the mayo is not overpowering. I also appreciate the little bits of fruit in the chicken salad. The Bagel Inn is kind of a sleeper nestled in Holden. I've been going to the Bagel Inn since it opened when I was in middle school. I love their sunflower bagel. It has never been a surprise to me to see and hear the owner of the establishment come off as pompous and rude to his customers who are not regulars. Recently I went in with my two young sons, one of whom is on the autism spectrum. We patiently waited as others were waited on and then even more so when we were the only ones left to be waited on. my son began to become restless and impatient as a line formed behind us. We gave out order and waited, while the owner and staff hustled to get everyone's order, ring them up and send them on their way. Not me, I waited as the owner rang everyone behind me up and ignored me leaving my son to become more restless and ultimately ended in him having a tantrum in the store. To no surprise the owner watched me struggle to get me son out of his establishment with a look of disdain. I am thoroughly disappointed and will not return to the bagel inn.
