I haven't been here in years, and I remembered the food being awesome, I've been wanting to go back ever since. I'm happy to say that the food is still great. The corned beef hash was excellent, and even as a picky pancake lover, I enjoyed mine. My partner ordered the country breakfast, but we received the wrong order with different specifications. We didn't notice immediately and started enjoying the hash. It took the servers about two minutes to realize the mistake and attempt bring us the correct order, they had hoped we hadn't started eating the hash meant for another customer. Although the mix-up was understandable, it was a bit frustrating not to get our raisin toast or runny, sunny-side-up eggs as expected. We stayed with the wrong order and our was brought back to the kitchen. The biggest drawback, however, is the outdated ambiance. I appreciate the vintage, long-time diner charm, but the decor needs some attention: the cups are showing wear, the shades are dusty, and the hallway to the bathroom feels cluttered. The bathroom itself could use a thorough cleaning, the soap dispenser was empty, and the backup pump wasn't working properly, making the space feel less sanitary. A small renovation to refresh the space while preserving its classic appeal would really enhance the overall experience. read more

I'm with Lila. This place's last owner's really let it slide. Since then, it's been redone completely. The inside itself is more welcoming and they run old movies on sunday mornings. The food is slightly better then average diner grub, with the homefries being spectacular. I am a big fan, and this is my normal sunday go to spot. Doesn't look like much as you drive up, and the "Live Bait" sign on the store next door isn't much of a draw either, unless of course, you're going fishing afterwords. The interior is small but much more inviting. Only about eight tables and a few seats at the counter. Breakfast here is your standard diner fare with quite a few specials. Our server was friendly but seemed to disappear at times. That's what happens when there's only one waitress and the place is full. The food was good, but not worth me driving out of my way for. Its a shame this gem is so close to home and I JUST discovered how yummy it is!! For the sake of this review, I tasted my husbands food also. A sacrifice necessary to write an proper review. ;) I had one of the Benedicts. Poached, English, Hollandaise but with bacon and tomatoes. YUM!!! The corned beef hash was prob from a can but fried with a excellent crisp to it and much less salty than the usual canned stuff. Husbands home fries were good. I claimed the little crispy pieces. Some had more of the yummy onion flavor than others. The sausage tasted home made. Maybe not in house but if they came pre frozen, they fooled me!! Its small. You will wait so be patient. I grew up near this breakfast / lunch restaurant, but never ate there. After being away for years, stopped in one morning for breakfast. Now it's a breakfast pilgrimage each time I'm back to visit family. Our favorite meal is the Waffle/poached eggs/ham steak - supreme. Just picture it, a large Belgian Waffle, covered with a ham steak and 3 poached eggs covered in Hollandaise Sauce. Yummy! Service is so-so. Not super fast, but if they're busy you may wait for a server. Also, it's primarily seat yourself. Most tables are 2 and 4 tops, as well as a counter with 8 swivel seats. There's also a large 6 top table that I've seen used by a couple, thereby forcing a large party to wait until they clear. They have a large TV on over one wall, sometimes it's too loud and their channel choice isn't always mine. Walls are covered with autographed photos of celebrities - owner has interesting story as to how these were acquired. Popular place with locals and truckers - this is on Rt 12 where 110 and 140 split off. Restaurant only takes cash payments, no credit or debit cards. read more

The food is excellent also - nice variety of omelets and other breakfast dishes - all the usual suspects and some inventive specials - healthy portions. Delicious! We go here practically every Sunday!! Fresh, fast and friendly. I also love that they don't give you disgustingly HUGE portions. This place is under-rated!! I've visited this spot twice now and both times it has been fantastic. This is my favorite breakfast spot. We stopped here one morning on the way to Michael's bridge diner instead and were pleasantly surprised. It's a cozy little diner with a nice low key atmosphere. Although there isn't many tables, both times we were sat right away and the wait staff has always been attentive, efficient and friendly. The food is amazing! The first time I had a Popeye Benedict and I think it is, by far, the best Benedict I've tasted. My boyfriend had a benedict too and he was very pleased with it as well. This morning we came with a friend and I ordered an Athens scramble with feta, olives, tomatoes and spinach and it was so delicious. My boyfriend ordered a breakfast supreme with a Belgian waffle topped with country fried steak and gravy. I had a bite and it was also delicious. The food, service, and atmosphere is consistently great. I almost didn't want to review this place because I feel like its a secret gem in West Boylston. read more

First we were told we had to wait to be seated when there was only one table with people at it which left at least six tables open so we waited and waited until it became clear we would not be seated until the one and only table that was occupied was done with their food. Meal OK, but was disappointed when I asked, before placing my order, if they had maple syrup available -- was told no, that they had "run out." Hey, that should be a staple for a non-chain place that promotes special pancakes and French toast offerings. They should have backup containers of maple syrup in reserve. Not sure where that other crazy person went, but I personally live down the street from The Country Kettle and have NEVER had any of these problems. The waitresses (there are two usual ones but only one can work at a time) are very friendly and stop to chat all the time. This place is the definition of a good small town place to eat... They even have had celebrities such as Lieslie Nielson eat there and enjoy it very much. I can only assume that this person made these things up, I mean it does get a little loud during the winter when the snow plow drivers eat there, but crazy townies? Really? I don't even think I've ever heard the word townies used. Country Kettle offers MANY dishes in large portions, from scrambles to waffles they offer only the best of service. I recommend the Eye Opener which for 5 dollars you get two sausages, 2 pieces of bread and 2 eggs. For drinks they offer things like hot chocolate, coffee and tea. They also offer soda and juice. The English Muffins are made FRESH and have that homemade taste to them. The bagels also taste delicious. For bread they offer rye, white, pumpernickel and wheat. Not only as a person who eats there regularly but as a denizen of the town I can say that there are no "crazy townies" (whatever that means) or dirty utensils at this establishment Also of course it's going to be crowded you dolt... It's a small building. And so what if the server takes another 5 minutes or so? You aren't the only person in the joint, and the waitress waits if she hears that you are having trouble deciding (very small place, they can hear you) I highly recommend this place if you want a good bang for your buck, first drink is on me! As other reviewers have mentioned, do not be put off by the exterior. I was hesitant, but so glad we followed through. The interior is adorable, and the food is simply fantastic. Slow service small portions and. A small setting. I watched my order sit for ten minutes while the staff discussed a lox omelette .

I went in with a party of 4 and I needed 1 additional high hair. Several parties were leaving when we arrived and a few parties came in after us. After 10 minutes of waiting and having to flag down someone to make sure they knew we were waiting and the first ones there, the waitress said she would take the party of 4 without a highchair (knowing very well that we were there first). She proceeded to take in 3 other parties and skipping us. Finally I spoke up and asked why we couldn't have the last table set. She said they can only fit a high chair at 1 of the table (the table that she sat the party of 4 in that came after us). After almost an hour of waiting with a 1 year old and 3 week old baby, we argued our way into getting a table for 4 and having my daughter sit on my lap. Even though there was room to squeeze in a highchair one of the waitresses refused to let us use it in that table. It was ridiculous. We will not be back. read more

We love the Country Kettle. It's wee, but cozy and you never have to wait too long for a table. The food is good, straightforward breakfast fare and most of the waitstaff is competent (the younger the waitress, the worse the service). We love the Eggs Irish and the pancakes are very good. It's a great place to run into the local folk but welcoming and cute enough for out of towners too. The owner is often there and is very friendly and concerned. Also, it's very clean. I like that. Turner Classic Movies on the big (but not too loud) TV a lot of the time. I love that! read more

God, has this place went down hill... We live up the road and have been coming here for years... The food is always great but it simply is not worth the aggravation. We waiting 45 minutes this morning only to leave frustrated without sitting. Their entire staff showed no urgency turning over tables we saw free for up to 15-20 minutes (keep in mind there might be 10 tables in the entire restaurant). Staff was unpleasant and looked completely dejected. We have had countless similar experienced in the recent past... We have stayed loyal and been let down, hoping that this place will get their act together at this point is just delusional. Again, the food is not the issue here (in fact it's a strength). This morning we stopped in for our usual breakfast eggs Benedict no hollandaise sauce no potato, and an egg white veggie omelette no toast no potato (our diets restrict certain food). Moving into West Boylston last year country kettle has been a regular breakfast place for us and usually the food and service is good. This morning after we ordered we could hear the staff saying egg whites should be banned and who the H doesn't get hollandaise sauce on poached eggs. Throughout our entire time there we could here them complaining about our order swearing from the cook and the other gentleman that was there and the server. This behavior in any restaurant is unacceptable. For approximately 30 minutes we had to endure this. Needless to say we will not be back there. I am not sure if they own the business but as we were the only ones in there you would think they would have been a little nicer. read more
